I would like to share some concerns about our recent breakfast experience at Olive Café. I hope this feedback helps improve service for future guests. 1. The server spoke to us with an unfriendly attitude and used inappropriate language while asking what we needed. 2. For my decaf coffee order, the server took my cup from the table and filled it at their station instead of bringing a pot to the table. She stated it was decaf, but when I tasted it, it clearly was not. 3. The soup we ordered was served cold. 4. The pancakes were inconsistent--the top pancake was whole, but the one underneath was cut in half. 5. When it was time to pay, the server did not provide a receipt. Had a great experience at Olive Cafe. Went there to meet some friends and also have a short business meeting. We were greeted when entering, and served coffee within minutes of sitting down. Our waitress, Karina, explained our questions and took our order. The food came out in a very reasonable amount of time and was delicious. Karina kept our coffee and water filled, even when we were done eating and having our meeting. Excellent, friendly service! We had the breakfast special and the Cobb salad, which were delicious and priced reasonably. We will definitely be going back there again!! read more

Went for breakfast here after church. Had been here before and it was good. This time, the service wasn't as good plus our order was screwed up. My wife ended up eating while the fixed my omelet that they failed to put meat on.... It was a meat lovers skillet!!!! I asked about a discount for not only the wait but the mistake that they made. The owner is notorious for just closing early at random. No set hours. Also one waitress does the ordering, phone calls, cashier, and sometimes clearing of tables. She doesn't have time to check up on you. I have to get up to get my own drink and when my tables order gets messed up, oh well. She doesn't have time to check up on you. I had the joy of being there on the day that the doors were opened for business and was so impressed by the atmosphere, staff and service. I ordered breakfast and a plate filled with French toast, bacon and syrup arrived. I loved what I ordered, it was hot, tender and the bacon was cooked to perfection. This is a nice, clean, newer cafe that never seems to be very busy. The prices are a little high, but the quality is definitely better than what you see at a place like Purple Steer or The Commander. I scoffed at the $8.75 Greek salad when it didn't have any meat, but there was a huge block of feta on top, an area most places skimp on. I didn't try breakfast, but the menu looks pretty standard. Most of the sandwiches on the menu come with only soup, but a few of the specials come with both soup and fries, so make sure to look for the specials on the menu. read more

Sophie Panagakis, formerly of the Riviera in Munster, has opened a nice little breakfast-lunch joint in the strip mall next to Lake Central High School. The decor is olivey - very cute and simple. Typical Greek breakfast place - $2.99 eggs, meat, toast and potato entree. Coffee is decent. I always swear I'm going to have lunch here but haven't yet. The servers are friendly and efficient. This place was definitely clean and seems to attract friendly older parties of no more than 4 ppl w modest appetites. Oh, and their culinary herbs r prob picked fresh from their potted garden outside. That said...I won't come back here for breakfast again. I ordered the corned beef hash skillet and specifically asked for extra crispy and very well browned hash and potatoes. Waste of breath. They ignored my only request. Add to that the skillet is basically served in a soup bowl. It would have been the perfect vessel for some tomato bisque, but totally inappropriate and undersized for a skillet. The waitress, Alicia, was all by herself and yet she was very personable. The food was wonderful and the atmosphere was relaxing. Soothing piano music playing, soft colors, lightly decorated. I ordered the French toast platter. It was more than filling. I don't know what brand they use for their breakfast sausage, but it was the best I have had. My husband had the potato soup. And treat his staff right.cant return phone calls or accept a doctor's note wants to have somebody come back to work with the flu. And to think I gave this young man the chance to affect me is crazy. Went here on a whim for breakfast with my husband on a Saturday morning and we were a bit scared as the dinner was empty. With that said, I ordered the spinach and feta omelet and he had a breakfast skillet with eggs over medium: both were amazing. I mix up my omelet orders, but spinach and feta is a favorite and this was THE BEST I've ever had! Fresh spinach leaves (not chopped/drained) and the feta was fresh (not the typical old/dried fair). My husband and I have been to the Olive Cafe on Wicker in Saint John, Indiana a few times now for Saturday breakfast. They do a nice job. The food is good, you get plenty of food for the money, the service is excellent, it doesn't break the bank, and the place is extremely clean and organized. Sunny little locally owned spot. What's not to like? The owner knew my friends (who are Greek) and I saw her go over to several tables to greet people. They made me a great egg-white omelet off the menu.
