I don't typically like spicy sauces especially on breakfast food but it is SO good. We make it a rule not to go to the same places when on vacation so we can try new places but we broke it here. We went back both mornings because the sandwiches were so good. The only downside is there is no place to really sit and eat outside so you would need to take your food to go and sit in your car, go back to hotel or air bnb, unless it is nice out and you can find a bench somewhere. Overall, this place was a hit and I suggest you try it if ever in Friday Harbor.

We ordered a few lattes made with their in-house syrups, and every single one of them was incredible. We loved them so much we went back for them again and again over the weekend we were there. We also tried their chorizo burrito and donuts, which were both outstanding. I honestly want to go back to the island just to eat here again! The ambiance of the place is awesome. It is super kid-friendly outside, featuring a wonderful yard with plenty of toys and things to do, which makes it incredibly relaxing for families. To top it all off, the staff was incredibly nice, welcoming, and helpful throughout our visits. I highly, highly recommend checking out Medio Cafe if you are anywhere near the San Juan Islands. At around $15 per bowl, the portions were shockingly small--only about a quarter full with five banana slice and three strawberries. one bowl was missing almond butter. The protein* smoothie couldn't be made properly because they were out of the protein powder. They offered to substitute collagen instead - not the same thing but ok. no discount. no acknowledgement. I understand that restaurants run out of items occasionally, but between most of the menu being unavailable, the outrageous price for the quality of the output, missing ingredients, and the complete lack of an apology or acknowledgment, this was a very disappointing experience.

You can tell this restaurant cares deeply about craft... not just in execution, but in intent. The menu didn't feel like it was trying to cater to trends or preferences. It felt like the chef had a clear point of view, and the food followed that vision. I appreciated that a lot. The salmon and veal were both beautifully executed. And though we don't drink alcohol, we were offered two beautiful non-alcoholic pairings (one sparkling, one rose) rather than the usual soda fallback. It made us feel cared for, not sidelined :) Pastry-wise, the brioche, olive oil cake, and macaron were all excellent. I'm lowkey regretting not staying until Sunday to try the pastry pop-up. Before the final course, we were offered a lemon and lovage sorbet as a palette cleanser. Somehow it made me laugh because it reminded me exactly of a Chinese herbal remedy (藿香正气水) I used to take in the summer in China. This place was absolute perfection from start to finish. Relaxed but upscale environment. Friendly, knowledgeable and attentive staff. The sommelier was also great. He was so clearly loving his job and it showed. He described each wine and its characteristics with enthusiasm and excitement. This was the first time I'd ever had wines that were so nicely paired with each course. Quite eye opening, for me at least. We love deer harbor inn and have dinner there almost every visit to the island. We even tried last…read moreyear when the power on the island went out - they were closed along with everyone else in the island, but we enjoyed cup of noodles in the parking lot with the kiddos, watching the deer and rabbits. The quiet location, wildlife, and outdoor seating with a view of the harbor is hard to find anywhere else. Plenty of room that reservations aren't usually needed and it's kid friendly with menu items for them and plenty of room to run around while percents continue sipping drinks on the deck and enjoying the love piano music. The food is good - we usually get a seafood entree and always save room for the blackberry cobbler. Don't miss this hidden gem the next time you're here.
