This little place is a hidden gem which should not be missed. While visiting on a weekend, we heard about this place from a local. It is a little stand facing the street, which looks underwhelming at first glance. BUT, they offer delicious coffee and delicious breakfast sandwiches and fast friendly service for a reasonable price. Don't skip on the spicy breakfast sauce. I don't typically like spicy sauces especially on breakfast food but it is SO good. We make it a rule not to go to the same places when on vacation so we can try new places but we broke it here. We went back both mornings because the sandwiches were so good. The only downside is there is no place to really sit and eat outside so you would need to take your food to go and sit in your car, go back to hotel or air bnb, unless it is nice out and you can find a bench somewhere. Overall, this place was a hit and I suggest you try it if ever in Friday Harbor. read more

Stopped by Sweet Retreat for breakfast. They open at 5am, which is great. The service/prep was also very fast. Husband and I both got breakfast burritos, with mine being vegetarian. Both of us thought the burritos were not very good. The salsa is something akin to a chipotle cream sauce, not an actual salsa. Potatoes were bland. Edible but not particularly good. read more

We just got on the island and parked in front of this place, in downtown, that was advertising breakfast Burritos. Just really a hole in the wall place that shouldn't be overlooked. We decided on breakfast bagels sandwiches and a raspberry latte. Dave was friendly, funny and great. We had a great talk with him finding out he grew up where we used to live in WA. Great place to grab a quick pick-me-up! Sweet Retreat is a walk-up stand along downtown in Roche Harbor, making it really convenient. We were trying to find flavored Red Bulls, but they didn't have them. Instead, they had plant-based energy drinks that mimic the flavor Red Bulls... They were actually really good! I'd say it gave us just as much of a buzz as a Red Bull would. They've got a pretty large menu as far as drinks AND food goes. We didn't try any of the food, but they've got a ton. OMG! This is our new favorite place in Friday Harbor. Our group ordered a variety of breakfast sandwiches that were cooked to perfection. Not only that, but the service was quick and the owner Dave and his daughter were both extremely friendly. We ordered the Lotus energy drink and an iced white mocha that were both delicious. I prefer the Doctor's Office for ice cream in Friday Harbor, but SR&E is still pretty good, depending on what you get. Go with the chocolate espresso almond or something like that. This place closes way too early, especially given that you'd likely be going there after dinner for dessert. However, they actually took our order and got us ice cream cones after closing just because we happened to walk by looking at the sign. Very nice! That's one lesson learned about the Pacific Northwest... closing and opening times are very much just general guidelines. read more

Sweet Retreat has a huge food and drink menu relative to its diminutive size. It's not just coffee and ice cream; you can get burgers, breakfast, and more. You will be impressed at the selection! I just stopped by for a dirty chai, and for only $4.60, I got a 16oz version with almond milk and an extra shot of espresso. The sweet retreat is a little hole in the wall type place run by a local family. They serve quick meals mostly to locals in the winter and a lot of tourists in the summer as well as locals. All of their food is good. Sandwiches and wraps are all good. The service is fast and friendly with a smile. But the secrete is the burger. In my opinion their burgers are the best in town at 1/2 the price of the other places that serve burgers. They are made on Texas toast with fresh let us, a thick slice of tomato, onions and pickle. I like mine with chipotle mayo and jalapeño. A great lunch at a great price. I'm giving them 5 Stars because there is nothing about this place I can think of that isn't great. read more

This place is a gem just off Spring Street! Got a recommendation to go there from a colleague and it didn't disappoint. Got lattes and breakfast burritos - simple but good. They crack the eggs right in front of you. Extensive coffee / espresso set up for such a small place. Looked like a huge selection of ice cream and shaved ice for later in the day. Great little spot to grab a milkshake, hot dog or burger. Sweet lady running the shop was very friendly. The sundaes were BIG and delicious. The hot dog can come with sauerkraut (yeah!) and is solid.
