This is old school style .. think 1950s, with dark, rich wallpaper & rugs, where you sit and enjoy slow-paced, fine dining. The food was exceptional - I finally found a restaurant with an actual chef who knows what they are doing. We split the scallops with key lime, three to a plate and massive. He had the crab cakes: Maryland style; lump crab bound with just enough breadcrumb to hold together. Lemon beurre blanc was perfect. I had veal marsala: delicious and tender. The only demerit was the vegetables were undercooked, but not by much. Will go again when it's in-season to see what's changed (and when it's actually lake weather). read more

Just amazing. Summer so we ate out on the deck. Staff turned on the warmers and the sunset was gorgeous. Everything from appetizer, said, soup, meat, pasta, dessert was like the best I've ever had if that thing. The staff is great. Don't be in a hurry they won't rush you it's a family operation. A great find. Skiing at elk so we stayed overnight at the motel across the street. The food was perfect. Nice liquor and wine selection. Attentive service. A little dated in some of the interior touches, but in my opinion, lends to the charm. The motel could use just a little more attention but I would stay there again. The view in the summer out by the lake would be worth it even if the food was not good, but the food is always good. This is a place to relax and savor a drink (or three), the meal, the view, and your dining companions. Hopefully you like your dining companions. If so, it likely will be an excellent evening. I have always experienced excellent service. The wait staff is attentive and friendly but not overbearing. They also have good knowledge of the menu and can be very helpful in making decisions. Was looking for something different in the Scranton area. Saw good reviews and decided to give it a try. It's winter so we ate inside the hotel restaurant. First impression walking in the place was a very strong moldy wet carpet type smell that carried through the restaurant. Had to walk through the entire place to find someone to sit us. They were understaffed on the floor. We were seated and the smell went away or we just got used to it. Menu was ok with minimal selections for group type appetizers. There was 4 of us. Took a very long time to get drinks. Again short staffed. Appetizers and food was very good. We all ended up ordering specials not on the menu. ( unaware of cost). Veal Chop, Chilean Sea Bass, scallops and chicken and sausage pasta was all good. Portions were good although could have used more pasta (cheapest thing). In all we were Satisfied with the quality of food everything tasted good. The price we thought was high for what we got. 2 drinks each and a meal with 1 appetizer for the table ran $$100 a person after tip. On the way out we were hit with the horrid smell in the foyer as we walked out the door. Good food but probably will not go back. Too pricey for what we got and the atmosphere was very dated and smelled. 1970's appearance. I don't mind spending $100 a person but just not feeling it there. read more

We had are reservations about the place when we pulled in and even when we sat down. Now, we sat inside at the motel portion. I will tell you this, we were very impressed with the drinks and the food. I love the classic style of the cook coming out to the table to take your order. Small, family owned and operated With lakeside dining ; perfect rain or shine. Dining is covered but open to the lake to enjoy the sights and sounds of the water. A group of us girls were coming to ski at Elk for the weekend. We were looking for a nicer dinner place and unfortunately our options were limited. luckily our one option, Olivieris, was a hidden gem! Upon walking in you'll notice the kitschy, dated decor complete with wallpaper, Christmas decorations and a pale pink bathroom. Do not let this ... Or the somewhat dated 90s menu fool you. They have a great specials menu which updates their options a bit. I chose the "hearts and hearts" salad with artichoke hearts, hearts of romaine, balsamic, blue cheese and kalamata olives, followed by a pastina and chicken soup. Basic but comforting and all homemade. The entrees were sort of basic with "veggie medley" and roasted potatoes, but reliable. Above all the service makes this place. The bartender served us table side, our waitress was adorable and knowledgeable and the owner came over to thank us for calling ahead to change the reservation (versus his other customers that simply don't show up or call). They even brought the bachelorette in our party a small gift at the end of the night! what a beautiful spot- crystal lake is just stunning and there is nothing better than watching the sunset during dinner on the deck. oliveri's is probably the best restaurant in the area and has, hands down, the best view. service was great- patrick, the owner, is so friendly and accommodating. our meal was on the slower side but paced out very well- it was such an enjoyable evening. the food was great and we even got some escargot which is hard to find in carbondale ! their menu is on the smaller side but the night we went they had almost as many specials as items on the menu itself. we will most certainly be back! read more

The best ambiance you will find. The restaurant overlooks Crystal Lake which is fabulous around sunset. The staff is "family" friendly and yet refined in there customer service. I ordered the veal which was fork tender and the vegetable and pasta sides were cooked al dente, just the way it should be. My wife had a pasta dish with shrimp and scallops in a cream sauce that was colorful and very flavorful. Always a special treat to dine lakeside on the covered deck at Oliveri's on a beautiful summer evening. The setting is lovely and peaceful. The service (by owner and his kids) is welcoming and spot on. The food is outstanding! We've been here several times and have always been impressed with the quality of food and interesting menu selections...cherry & corn salad at our most recent visit was a creative, inspired surprise that included ground cherries that had come from the farmers' market earlier that day. Entree specials of branzino and salmon were delicious and perfectly prepared as were the accompanying veggies and potatoes. For dessert we shared a slice of blueberry tarte...light creamy custard filling, fresh blueberries, and a delicate graham crust...oolala! We'll be back!! read more

The view is what this restaurant is all about. It is operated by a family and they don't have many employees. You may see a multitude of tables open, but they don't care and will take you or not depending upon mood. Therefore, make a reservation. They make everything to order, so you need to block some time out to eat, as it will take a good amount. The views, like I said, are amazing especially at sun set. Truly one of a kind. We've been coming here for years for ski weekends at Elk Mountain, but Oliveri's always ends up being the highlight of the trip. Pat and Jana are world class restauranteurs following in the tradition of the original owner. They've always treated us like family and the only thing finer than the hospitality is the food itself! I'll be the first to admit that I'm not an expert, but I've had a lot of steak, and nothing holds a candle to the filets here. They're not cheap, but they're worth every penny. Carefully sourced and perfectly prepared, even the vegetables on the side are done flawlessly....I can't recommend it enough. Further, the wine list is comprehensive and very reasonably priced.
