If you are a vegetarian or vegan living in the Rohnert Park/Cotati area, Oliver's in Cotati unfortunately is NOT the place you want to buy a sandwich on the weekend like I attempted to do recently with my 6 and 3 year old kids. Here I am trying to set the example of "do no harm" with them, yet in we walk from the parking lot to the smell of burnt animal flesh as the raging weekend barbecue greets you with no escape. Inside, as the deli/sandwich/burrito makers stew about, you notice half of them chopping up dead animal parts and the other half arranging them. And, they have literally ONE vegetarian sandwich option: the "Sebastopol Grill". Zero vegan options. It is important for local stores like Oliver's to lead in healthy sustainable food. Meat production is one of the single most environmentally destructive industries on the planet, producing more greenhouse gases than the transportation industry. According to the IPCC we cannot meet our climate goals without addressing unsustainable animal ag production. With a reputation as a local "green" leader, Oliver's needs to walk the talk. And it's lack of options and stinking BBQ outside where you can't escape it isn't a sign of that leadership. Even Mulsberry Market offers more than ONE single vegetarian sandwich option, yet I don't hear them promoting themselves as "green". Ike's Sandwich Shop in Santa Rosa offers a PLETHORA of vegetarian AND vegan sandwich options (try the "Helen Putnam"!). I mean come on Oliver's! It's 2017, in the heart of Sonoma County, California, and your sandwich menu un-proactively displays exactly ONE vegetarian option and zero vegan options? Sorry, but that is embarrassing. It's not enough to buy local or humane: we have to think about the environment too. Studies show reducing our average meat intake by even a third is far more impactful in reducing our air and water pollution levels and habitat destruction than an entirely "local" diet. Oliver's has been supportive of green initiatives. It's time for them to step up on this. Also we hope that Oliver's cares more about just its bottom line but at the same time one only has to look at local Amy's restaurant to see how successful a more plant based menu can be and the incredible consumer demand for it. read more

This is a review of the Cotati store. I love this place. It is like grocery store heaven. Their house-made deli items are amazing - especially the chicken salad. Oliver's Own potato salad is the best. I like the hometown atmosphere and that it is a smaller store. I have been to the Santa Rosa store as well, and the food is the same, but it's more like shopping at Safeway. read more

I'm new to the area. I went in for a quick dinner, and while standing in line I hear someone shout incredibly loudly "Sir! Sir!". To my amazement it was their "security guard" shouting at me. My face mask had slipped slightly below my nose. The guy shouted. "I need you to cover your nose with your mask!". You'd have thought I had a bomb strapped to my chest. He gave me the evil eye and started advancing. Baffled, I pushed the mask back up and the guy just stormed off, seemingly anxious to exercise his limited power over some other citizen. This was beyond rude. A simple, "hey man your mask fell down could you put it back on properly? Thanks" would have been fine, and I would not been giving your business a 1 Star review on yelp right now. I get it, everyone has an opinion with the mask thing. Stores have the right to refuse service. But this was absurd. It left an impression. It's crazy how these new age "healthy" market places have become fascists dystopias of "follow our rules or else". This is definitely an overdue review since I stop here at least twice a week since I live around the corner. This is an amazing grocery store! Probably the best grocery store I've ever been too.They carry mostly natural/organic products but also carry the conventional staples. From meat and dairy to the health and beauty section, Olivers always has what I need at a reasonable price. They support local purveyors and have extremely kind and helpful staff. I love that Oliver's allows me to shop local. I'm a big fan of the hot bar and soups! As a college student who is always on a rush between school and work, I can always trust that Oliver's will have something delicious and quick for me to pick up. The butchers are super friendly, and so far have made great recommendations. Big Shoutout to the people at the checkout, they always have a smile on their face! read more

Have to say that this was a favorite shopping destination for years, but lately the customer service experience at the bakery has been seriously lacking. The three ladies working there tonight seemed to be generally in a bad mood from the start, also short and curt in response to questions. The one working the register left to start work on something else after taking care of the lady in front of me. She said, "I'll be right with you," but after a few minutes I decided that the registers at the front of the store would be quicker. I shared this with my wife back at the car and she said she had also lodged a complaint about the same type of service that she received at the deli a fee weeks ago. Neither one of us are whiners, so if we're having this experience I am sure others are as well. Perhaps they should change the configuration of the bakery counter so they can see customers when they're lined up there. Maybe place a bell on top of the counter? (I think they used to have one. Hit or miss for me. Sometimes the hot food bar is great other times its, meh! Salad bar is good and usually tasty and fresh. The only thing I constantly like here is their pre made chicken cordon Bleu (sp?). Everything else has been lacking. As for a grocery store, forget it! Over priced and terrible selection. I have never had a bad experience in this store with any employees. They are all very courteous and do their best to offer items you didn't even know existed. I am a Whole Foods shopper normally, but I like the fact that you can find items you would find in both a WF and a normal store like Safeway. I don't have to go to two different stores to appease my entire family. Their hot food is always good, but they really need to work on the chicken in the salad bar - it's bone dry and I refuse to eat it anymore. The selection in the bakery is to die for! I've tried almost all of it including the cakes. My favorite has to be the peanut butter stacker but give me caramel cream puffs, macarons, or eclairs any day. read more

I love this Oliver's Market. They are all great, but this was the first one I ever encountered and they have never disappointed me. They seem to hire exceptionally friendly staff. I am always treated with a smile and respect when I am there. They are helpful but not hovering, if that makes sense. Their selection of foods is impressive, carrying lots of fresh regional items, which I appreciate. Their prices are fair, in my opinion. The store is busy but not so overcrowded that you want to avoid it. The layout makes sense to me and is inviting. I just like this store. Out of all the Oliver's Markets, this one is my favorite. The best store ever! So many organic and natural choices that I've come to expect only from Co-ops. Surprisingly accommodating to all and any food choices, limitations, and curiosities. I wish they offered more paper bag options in Bulk and Produce departments, but I just bring my own, so no biggie. Love that this local store is thriving! Been going to this olivers for four years. Since I moved here. Have had a great experience with all the staff. Except for today. I have always been friendly with the staff and they have gotten to know me and my kids. They have watched my kids grow up. Today though has been a different story, as I was leaving a manager followed out of the store. I thought it was to ask how I have felt about how the store is, my son had been sad that the Yoo-hoo situation had been so bleak but eddy had always been helpful with any requests. The manager wanted to talk to me about how I am inappropriate with the employees and that I can not ask them to hang out outside of Olivers. I'm sorry but when any of the staff that I ask to hang out with just politely says no or they are busy. Never had any of them shown or said that I was being inappropriate. I was told I can still shop there but if it continues I will be asked not to return. Well guess what olivers my four years of shopping with you is over. I know you probably won't care that me spending an average of about $75 a day there is now gone but to me being polite and trying to be friendly with other humans should be at the top of anyone's list of how to act. At a olivers checkers ask how my day is or what I'm up to, guess answering back and asking if they maybe wanted to hang out to is inappropriate. Sorry for the little adult interaction I get while in a checkout line with other adults. Now I don't know if this female manager was upset because I never hit on her but why would I she's a bitch. 1) she made me feel uncomfortable following me out the door. 2) her attitude was inappropriate acting like she is god and has control or power over me. If Olivers and Whole Food's went head-to-head in a salad bar showdown, Oli would reign victorious with nary a scratch from the competition. Believe that. Being a native Sonoma County girl, I've always been a fan of Olivers for it's affordable gourmet grub, spacious store layout, and friendly checkers. But the salad bar is the real pièce de résistance, with everything from marinated tofu and mozzarella balls, to pasta, quinoa and egg salads, and all the other standards. To be perfectly honest, the Stony Point Rd location is the best and biggest selection, but the Cotati store is endearingly less glamorous. A real locals spot. You'll be amazed at how easily your bourgeois shopping list can be checked off at Olivers. Kombucha, fair trade chocolates, vegan snacks, fresh sushi, local wines...they do all that, without the whole paycheck attitude. read more

If it is possible to be in love with a grocery store, I am in love with Oliver's Market in Cotati. Admittedly, I am not your average grocery shopper. I buy fresh fruit, a few dairy items, prepared deli and way too much beer. (My wife does most of the "regular" grocery shopping. I just pick up the specialty stuff or the stuff we use up fast.) I have been going to this Oliver's market for over 20 years, since I first moved to the area. If you are looking for a great selection of beer at reasonable prices, you will not be disappointed. They have a WIDE variety of six packs (ranging from about $7.99 and up) and bombers (from about $4.99 and up). The back cooler has some of their more geeky products (sours, Belgian style beers, some of the higher end craft beers like Dogfish head and the like). If you are looking for really, really, really geeky stuff this may not be your place but if you want to pick up some solid brews, you cannot go wrong. They sometimes (but not often) have a bargain bin in the beer section. It is mostly odds and ends marked at about $.99 / bottle. It is a bit hit-and-miss, but I always check it out when it is there. It is a bit like a treasure hunt (although not a very long treasure hunt, since the bin is not that big). Oh, did I mention that you can buy singles of any bottled beer, right out of the six packs? Not sure if you will like the new chocolate infused pale ale? Want to try one habanero infused IPA but not sure what to do with six? You can buy ANY bottled beer in singles and a price only slightly higher than you would pay for beer in a six pack or four pack. The prepared food is really terrific, too. Great sandwiches, a nice hot bar (if a bit spendy) and some very solid sushi (OK, it is grocery story sushi, so I should say "solid, rated on a scale.") The produce is also solid. I cannot say that it is exceptional (like the beer aisle) but they always have a nice selection at not super high prices. read more

My boyfriend and I frequented (past tense) this Oliver's quite frequently, however, because of recent events, I think we will be boycotting this store. Here is the reason(s): *Many of the cashiers are surly, surly, surly. That is the main adjective that comes to mind. The women checkers aren't so bad, but the men are horrid! *This refers back to the previous point, and this is the reason this Oliver's has lost our business: we had a very bad experience with one of the male checkers last night (he is the one with the lip ring, and shaggy blond hair, BTW). We were about ready to take our bag, when the guy rudely put our money down with an air of hostility. We were actually both a little shocked and surprised by this, and were about out the door, when i thought I should give Oliver's management a "heads up" on the treatment we received from this guy, by way of a suggestion that I wrote down and put into their suggestion box. We hope you read it, Oliver's management, and correct this from happening again, lest you lose more customers. Note to the rude checkers: if you really despise dealing with the public that much, how about NOT working in a job where you have to deal with the public!!! If you've had a bad day, don't feel good, whatever, SUCK IT UP! Why should customers have to deal with this crap? read more

I love Oliver's Market for so many reasons: I have had many amazing sandwiches from their deli. There bakery makes really good things. Their selection of hot sauces is unparalleled. All the people who work there are friendly and helpful. Their beer and wine selection is great. Their meat and fish are always fresh and the people working there are able to suggest what they would recommend. They are locally owned and source many things locally. I will continue to shop here for most of my needs whenever I can. They are MUCH better than the large chain stores. read more

I like the idea of having a supermarket that is not the standard, no "healthy-choice" markets that cities are usually littered with. But I have to agree with Inga and others, that the workers there ruin the whole experience. Why would anyone feel comfortable spending their money at a place that makes you regret spending your money there. Whole Foods flank the Rohnert Park area, one in Santa Rosa and the other in Petaluma. It's not a short drive, but well worth a better selection and workers that actually seem to appreciate having a job. I have such a hard time trying to understand why anyone, that works at a place like Oliver's seems to have such a hard time dealing with people. They should be lucky they even have jobs, and it's even worse when workers at Fast Food joints are happy then the workers here. read more
