I stumbled onto Oliver's while visiting family but I will run here from now on when in the area. A good sized market that strives to offer local products and organic produce. Like a Whole Foods in a way but much more comfortable, less expensive with a small town neighborhood market feel. I went straight to the wine section to find what I came for. There I encountered a very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable clerk to assist me. As I strolled through the aisles I was impressed with the large selection of bulk foods, sustainable, gourmet and hard to find goods. I wished I wasn't in a hurry because I could have spent hours checking it out. The bakery, cheeses, deli and salad bar earned a second look and future visits. I find the produce is fresher and less expensive than Whole Foods. And nutritious staples beat out Safeway and Foodmaxx for quality of nutrition per dollar. True story: I spent several years living with my Depression-era frugal grandmother living the two of us off of her social security check and we ate very well shopping only at Oliver's (maybe one reason she lived to be 97?). Many of the staff have been here for years. When I need wine or cheese for a special occasion, the wine guy and cheese ladies' suggestions have been spot on. The meat counter gentlemen are also very knowledgeable and have a lot of good deals. The staff is really good and I get the general feeling that management runs in a way that makes the place more human, which makes a difference for my shopping experience. The BEST market ever! Trader Joe's? Whole Foods? 'eff those guys. Oliver's the most magical, fantastical, fanciest, super-duper-est place everrrrrr. I seriously make this place an official 'attraction' when family/friends from the bay area come up to visit. There really isn't any market like it. (although it's been pretty hilarious seeing big retailers such as Safeway and Raley's go for the same organic market 'feel') Oliver's has it all. Pretty much every item they sell is top quality. I am not much of an "organic" shopper. But I do appreciate the fact that this place takes pride in selling produce and other products from our local small businesses here in Sonoma County. Pretty much every department in this store is well-rounded. It takes me around 2 hours just to get through this place, and I don't even do my regular shopping here. (too expensive) My faves are the meat department (great cuts in beef, excellent seafood selection); the deli/bakery (best salad bar EVER, fantastic gourmet cakes); the liquor section (I've come here numerous times to buy rare wine/spirits for parties and gifts). To top it all off... the gift department is fabulous. There are TONS of cute little items and great humerous gifts. If you are shopping for a girlfriend, your mother, or even a co-worker... there is something here. On a side note: I have found the Cotati's gift dept seems to be "stocked" with goodies more so than the other two stores in Santa Rosa so I tend to shop there the most. Overall as someone who loves to cook - this place is one of my top favorite places to spend money. (expect to spend anywhere from $50-$100 at LEAST) There's so much here, I can't even begin to list. I live really close and am in the store often. This is a great little market and usually not as crowded as the local safeway. PROS: -clean -best selection of local produce and usually the same price if not cheaper than safeway -friendly staff -deli and meat market are open til 10 -great selection of beer, you can make your own 6 pack out of any beer of your choosing! -good mixture of local and conventional brands -lower prices than whole foods CONS: -alcohol is a little on the pricier side -if you are with a group of friends, everyone must present ID even if they arent purchasing the alcohol. extremely inconvenient -higher prices then safeway and trader joes -not too sure about the quality of fish in the market..got some salmon and it didnt appear to be fresh at all read more

Just a warning here. The fruits and veggies may be fresh, but avoid the bakery. I've recently bought pies at the Cotati and Santa Rosa store, and all three times it was stale. Oliver's Market has ruined me for any other grocery store, there is just no comparison. I love how they seamlessly blended the offerings of a natural food store with mainstream choices so I don't feel like I need to stop at two stores to get everything I need. There are lots of local options in the produce area with sections for organic or general, but they also have exotic fruits and vegetables that inspire me to get creative. The best aspect for me about Oliver's is the meat and seafood counter where they label options by how sustainable and healthy they are for the environment. Sad news. I don't shop at Oliver's Market anymore because I finally got fed up with the harassment. I put up with it for over two years, first at the Montecito store in Santa Rosa, then at the Cotati location. It was so awful the last time I just couldn't bring myself to go into the store. In Santa Rosa, there was a day when I just sat in the parking lot and cried. I am an older woman and some of the workers were yelling at me, saying unbelievably obscene things. This market really is a head and shoulders above the rest. They carry Boar's Head brand meats and others which you would find at a traditional east coast deli. The soups and premade lunches are awesome. They also carry many sodas that are hardly found anywhere else; Jones, RC Cola, and an abundant selection of Kombucha in different flavors. A few weeks ago I made a large deli order and the price was far less than the other places I checked. I shop here all the time and have never reviewed a grocery store before. This place has always been "ok" but today as I was just looking at the pre-made food around 3pm I saw sevetal customers trying to get help from the guying running the counter. The guy couldnt have been more disrespectful and condescending to his customers. Basically yelling at them with a smile on his face . as im starring in awe at Whats happening, he looks at me and yells "grab a ticket, you wont get helped unless you have a ticket!" I was not planning on getting anything so I had not grabbed a ticket. From now on im going to Trader Joes . the only reason you should go to this place is if you need like a specialty cut of meat. We go simply for the burrito's at the burrito bar. It is quick and easy and we're usually in and out in a matter of 15-20 mins. We don't do any other shopping there, but everyone is helpful and friendly. We have never had a bad experience. read more

They are super friendly and their system of customer service and communication runs like a well-oiled machine! Long story short, I was looking for an item that was only sold in California and found that Oliver's carried it. When I called them, both Garrett and Deb were super friendly and they helped me find my item, make runs to the post office to provide various shipping options for me, and shipped the items to me all in the same day!!! Deb even followed up with my tracking information and a few days later I received the cutest card with hard copies of my receipts (which I didn't even request!)!!! I was so happy with their service, I wanted to write to their manager so they could be recognized but they humbly said it wasn't necessary. How awesome and sweet are they??? If you guys are looking for specialty items bundled with great customer service... definitely go to Oliver's. I know the next time I visit California, Oliver's will be one of my first stops! read more

In general, I really like Oliver's Market. If it weren't for two issues, I would be giving them five stars. They make excellent smoothies, and I used to stop in every morning to get one for breakfast. The first time I was there, I asked if they had any vegan options, and the clerk actually looked annoyed, then confused, and asked, "What's that?" I was really surprised that I had to explain that to someone in the food industry. I can't blame the clerk because she was pretty young, and I think it comes down to a lack of training. Other times I went in, the service folks behind the counter knew exactly what I was asking for and even went so far as to make suggestions for fruit combos that would be good for my breakfast. The second issue is a bigger problem. Oliver's has a huge selection of high-quality supplements, which is fantastic, but again, some of the staff working in that section of the store need more training. I went in looking for magnesium with a high percentage being "elemental" because it was recommended by my physician. When I asked the store clerk about it, she told me (quite incorrectly) that all magnesium is the same. I assumed she was informed on the topic, and took her advice to buy a magnesium supplement that didn't even have the elemental percentage on the bottle. My doctor later explained the kind of magnesium I purchased was very difficult for the body to absorb, and wouldn't help at all with my condition. So I wasted a decent amount of money on the wrong supplement, which could have been avoided if the staff member I'd talked to hadn't provided me with incorrect information. As I said before, overall, I believe Oliver's is a good store. They try to sell local products, which is wonderful, and their prices are comparable to similar stores. The staff is generally friendly, and at times when it gets crowded, they're very efficient at managing the increase in traffic. I'd shop here again in a heartbeat, but I won't be asking for any assistance around the supplements. read more

I've been shopping here since before it was Oliver's, back in the farmer's market days- back in the days where the produce area used to be a separate store called bonanza 88. so I've been shopping for food at a grocery store in this location for the better part of 30 years. that said, I keep coming back to olivers as it is because of a couple reasons. 1) they have a good staff. I know a lot of people who work here, including the GM, who's worked here for years now. the people here are friendly, and make checking out, or ordering painless. when the recognize you, they're even more friendly. 2) they have just about everything I've ever needed for any of my dietary needs depending on the diet I'm trying out at the time, which makes it easier to get what I need, and not have to travel somewhere like wholefoods. 3) the taqueria is straight up awesome. I've been able to customize burritos to my liking and they always taste really good. the staff in the taqueria are all really nice and helpful, especially when I was first learning how ordering worked. 4) I recently tried ordering at the deli and my mom and I were able to get some really great sandwiches, which we had custom made. they definitely helped for making a fun picnic day out. overall, I'd definitely be back as a customer and definitely recommend them to anyone who's in the area looking for healthy and or organic foods and who doesn't want to travel to TJs and Whole paycheck to get it. they definitely make it easy to go local read more

Between Petaluma and Santa Rosa, this is the market I visit. A mix between a large chain store like Raley's, and Whole Foods, Oliver's might not have everything you are looking for, but they are strong in some areas where even Whole Foods can be weak. Natural/Organic products are plentiful and mixed in with the sorts of standard chains-store brands of most items. The HABA aisles are well stocked, with more than one choice available for most items, and some interesting, less common natural options as well. The selection of organic produce is strong, the product well kept, and prices competitive. The bakery is on par with the better Whole Foods stores, though there are fewer gluten free options there. A highlight, however, is the brewed coffee and espresso drinks use Taylor Maid Coffees, a Sonoma County roaster and a personal favorite of mine. That said, the retail selection of coffee and tea is strong as well. There is a BBQ outside on the weekends, and the fare is better than average, although the focus is more on things you can take home and build a dinner around, rather than sandwiches. A few let-downs: There is a filtered water machine and a selection of BPA free bottles, but from the signage, it seems like the water is just straight from the tap. Even the Safeway water machines describe the process used to filter the water, but not this. They either need a better machine, or much better signage. The Hot Deli is available for orders from breakfast through dinner, although, the process of ordering is not as simple as it could be. The hot case items are ok, most surprisingly the creamy pesto dishes that appear once on a blue moon, which are much better than most creamy pesto restaurant faire without a dress code. Overall, in this geographic area, certain things I still need to get from other stores, but Oliver's covers most of my needs at fair prices and with good quality. read more

5 Stars for their delicious Princess Cake! You have to order it a day in advance but man is it worth it! The cake is pricey for such a tiny thing, but it is jam packed with goodness! Just a tiny slice will hit your sweet spot because it's so rich! It's topped with almond marzipan and it has raspberry in the center and vanilla cake. The marzipan is really sweet by itself, but if you get a little marzipan and cake, it's really delicious!! Just talking about it makes me salivate! read more

4.5 stars This is the best Grocery Store in Sonoma County, in my opinion. Prices are reasonable while the quality of food is above par. They have a great 'to go' section where the employees are very 'on it'. The produce is also above par and decently priced, including the organic section. They often have Kombucha on sale, which is rare in the bay area (like half price on sale). They also have great prices on non food items. Friendly employees and convenient parking, and the occasional musician strumming a guitar outside while you enjoy your lunch on one of the picnic tables. read more

I always shop here after my gym sessions. Never have an issue with workers here, except tonight a white male with glasses decided to be rude to my partner and I. Didn't say a word to us while scanning out items. My boyfriend decided to help him bag and he started to look at him weirdly and checking to see if we were stealing items. I then handed him cash and he wasn't paying attention just looking at our bags. My boyfriend said goodnight to him and he didn't say a word back. Good deli, usually pretty busy, but the food is worth the wait. The ingredients are fresh and quality. The breads and meats they use are some of the best available. If you get some of their pre-made items from the refrigerated section too, you won't be disappointed. Their staff is very friendly too. I love this store. Its a bit pricey for your every day items but if you are looking for specialty products of very high quality, this is the place to go. Cheese, wine, unique sauces, and artisan bread. This place is like a candy store for anyone who loves good food. The bakery and deli are always super friendly when I go. Sometimes I just walk in to stare at the dessert counter! I just recently had the Petaluma Panini (I forget the real name of it) and it was honestly the best sandwich I have ever had. The garlic aioli perfectly complimented the smoky roast beef yet did not overpower the taste of the Swiss. The woman behind the counter recommended sprouts, jalapenos and pepperocinis. I work right down the street so I am here at LEAST 4 times a week. I Love this place for all the exotic and unique food. Apple cider vinegar drinks anyone? How about some black water? Yea. This place rocks. Salad bar is terrific and there are always FOUR different types of yummy soups available. This is a beautiful Market and I could easily spend my whole lunch hour hanging out in here. Also, most importantly, THEY MAKE PRINCESS CAKE FROM SCRATCH. I LOVE princess cake can you tell? Produce is ALWAYS super fresh and yummy. They basically have a whole aisle dedicated just to tea and coffee (heaven) and there are cheese samples EVERYWHERE. Nuff said. When we were in college, the bf and I would just go to Oliver's and wander the aisles...in the mornings, okay, really more like midday on the weekends, it was hungover to get coffee at North light Books next door, and soup and salads from their excellent salad bar/deli area. On sunny days, before picnics it was to get bread and cheese and wine and produce. Before dinner it was to stock up meats, dressings and other sundries. At night, sometimes drunk, it was to raid the bin candy section for jordan almonds, dried fruits, mixed nuts, the carob-vegan pretzels, and the chip aisle...and, of course, how could I forget: regularly lathering myself up before checking out with all the delicious smelling, organic and all natural lotions in the impressive toiletries section: Burt's Bees, Dr. Bronner's, Alba Botanicals, Avalon Organics. Oliver's, in addition to Berkeley Bowl and Whole Foods were my introduction to Bay Area grocery stores and it's by far the best! It is a no-nonsense excellent grocery store. It carries traditional, mainstream brand products as well as loads of local, independent, alternative brand products. It doesn't ooze the hippiness of Berkeley Bowl or the yuppiness of Whole Foods. I used to work at the vet clinic in the same strip center and I miss this grocery store so bad. To call it a grocery store is mostly unfair. It is a super Californian local in your face so much better than Whole Foods type of vibe. Natural foods, bulk foods, and lots of other cool stuff. There bakery is amazing, their floral department makes you want to cry and their deli section is crazy good. You can get a variety of gourmet treats but I used to get the southwest panini. Roasted chicken, avocado and a mixture of other stuff. I kid you not, best sandwich I have ever had. I used to love to get a sandwich here, drive out to Armstrong Woods and enjoy Nor Cal for all it's beauty. AHHHHH!! How could you not fall completely in love with Oliver's Market. Having grown up in the small town of Cotati, I completely took this place for granted. Moving to a big city has made it super hard to find quality stuff. All the food is so good... I especially liked their burritos and their steak quesadillas. But you can also do cheese tasting inside the market and find really cute little gift-shop-type gifts. The best part about the place is the selection. It's so hard to find blue-sky soft drinks and other old school sodas (like Orbitz, anyone remember the soda with the little gelatin bubbles?), but you can always find it here at Oliver's. Best grocery store in Sonoma County! Olivers supplies it's customers with a variety of options. Although it is the size of a large supermarket, there is still a wonderful feeling of a mom and pop health food store. Great wine, cheese and beer selection. Cheese bar is fantastic... better than whole foods! They have featured wine makers come in and have tasting for a couple bucks a few times a month. It's a good healthy market. There is very little to dislike this place. The only best way I can describe this place is that it is similar to Whole Foods... except a tad bit better. The reason why I say better is because it is bigger and more open. At a regular WF I feel cramped and unable to move. With this I felt like I had a lot of room to operate. With good, local sources, a nice range of pretty much everything I want, and (from what I hear when talking to employees off-shift) they typically treat their employees well. No need to frequent a Whole Paycheck when in the Santa Rosa area of Sonoma County (if they are your sort of place). Perhaps not the cheapest grocery store, but quite reasonable, and worth making your primary grocery store if you are lucky enough to live that close to one.
