We dined at Oliver's on our anniversary May 31 st and April 17th for my wif'e's birthday. Neither time was good! We always have filets and have been at the restaurant many times. This last time both our meals were almost cold and the wife's filet was burnt and had no flavor. Waiter did offer to take her filet back but she refused. Not sure if they changed chefs but two bad meals in a row, we won't be going back anytime soon. read more

As good as it's going to get north of Pittsburgh, east of Cleveland, south of Toronto, and west of Philly. Northwestern PA is not "foodie central", but Oliver's delivers a quailty meal, consistent service, and a nice view which is not incredibly easy to find in this geographical area. We'll start with the location: a [nicer] Hampton Inn rooftop overlooking the a harbor on Lake Erie. The restaurant features its own elevator which bypasses guest room floors on its way to the top so that there's no confusion with luggage laden hotel guests. The floor-to-ceiling windows allow for great views, and it appears that sections of the restaurant can be converted to open-air if the weather allows. Service is good. Don't expect a professionally trained waitstaff, but do expect reliable, friendly service. Bar service was slow during our visit, but it seemed to be more of a staffing issue. The service wasn't standout enough to guarantee my return; likewise, it wasn't subpar to a degree that would discourage another visit. Our meal -- brunch -- was excellent. We started with a tempura shrimp appetizer. For an entrée I had the Greek Scrambler, which was easily one of the best breakfasts I've had in the regional area. My husband had the Classic Eggs Benedict, and he reported that they were very good (and he's picky about his Benedicts). We had reservations for brunch, but there were plenty of open tables and bar seats during our visit. I suspect that is probably not the case for dinner. If you're looking for a quality dinner with good service and a nice atmosphere you won't go wrong here, and the prices are well-aligned with the quality of food and service. read more

We went here for the first time recently. It was for my birthday. I'm usually skeptical about hotel restaurants, but this one blew us away! I had the New Orleans eggplant pasta. The initial feel of the ambience was really cool, however the food was disjointed. The banana pepper appetizer with beef and chorizo was fairly interesting and well prepared, but all the prices were way too expensive for how they're presented and indicated on the menu. Restaurant "favorite" off the menu, which was Walleye with a "butter white wine sauce" was not prepared as said on the menu, which ultimately translated to a thick buerre blanc weird consistency, and the dish had a cold, bland, broccoli to accompany it. The sauce that was on the dish tasted funky and strange and did not give flavor to the fish, which was shamefully dry. There also was an occasional bite of fish that did not taste fresh... Super scant amount of fish, some rice, and some cold broccoli which weren't seasoned for 38 dollars. Come ON. read more

We usually love Oliver's and the food is always great! However I'm not sure what was up with our waiter during our most recent visit. He was commenting on how fast we drank our first drink and also called us "kiddos". My husband and I are in our 30's and 40's? I'm not sure why how fast I drink a drink (which wasn't fast actually), and being called kiddo at an "upscale" restaurant is appropriate. I feel like he was talking just to talk most of the time. We had a mom and dad night out for the first time in a while and couldn't even have a conversation without being interrupted literally every 10 minutes by either the waiter, the manager, or the person bringing our food. Though I didn't visit the actual rooftop establishment I did visit their newer establishment just outside the building which I will do this review on. First is first, this place is gorgeous! It's probably the hottest spot on the strip besides waiting to go on the boardwalk and ships. This place is well lit, it's got great music on the weekend, great food, dog friendly, great people. What a let down. You know I should have know better with this place. To be honest, the food reminded me of a vamped up Bonefish Grill menu or something. The fact that you look the place up and it says it's $50-100 per person is so not worth it. The food was so mid, I actually wished we went somewhere else. We got some apps, lobster deviled eggs, which had like 6 pieces of lobster shells in them that we couldn't even finish them. How can you can it fine dining and then have people choking at the table; tempura cauliflower, nice soggy cauliflower that's now drenched in a sauce and has zero crisp, ew. The lobster and shrimp bisque that I asked for to be hot, not surprisingly came out nice and cold as the room itself. The waitress even dropped it off saying be careful it's hot! I just didn't say anything because of my level of disappointment and ate about half of it anyway, the flavor was great, but it was honestly thick and cold. My husband got a Greek salad with chicken that was brought out without two ingredients, which the waitress informed us of and then had to bring those out as she looked at the dish and said, "oh they definitely didn't put everything on there." Okay? I got a rubbery Cajun chicken parpadelle pasta with a sauce that had zero kick to it. Overall just disappointing, especially with having to be there for 2 hours waiting and waiting for everything. Maybe a lack of communication in the kitchen? Not really sure. All I can say is save your money and go to one of the other places nearby and get better quality food. read more

My husband and I stayed in Erie for about 5 days, our last evening there we decided to go to Oliver's Rooftop. Let's just cut to the chase. It was horrible. Both of our meals were way overcooked. I had the salmon, which was so overcooked it was inedible, you couldn't chew it. The rice that come with it was lumpy, very stuck together and very dry. My husbands meal, had shrimp in it which was so over cooked he could hardly bite into it. It was busy and by the time the waitress got back to our table, there was no way I was going to wait for them to cook another. $100 dollars later of an inedible meal!! Sure it was nice there, is that what I paid for? The rooftop view? So overpriced and so not good. read more

Oliver's rooftop was a pleasant surprise. We stopped in on the way to Pittsburgh from Cleveland. (The food in Cleveland was mediocre so we were ready for a good meal.) the restaurant was relatively empty so we receded right away. We were given a high top table with a perfect view of the lake. I was server was attentive throughout the meal. I had lobster with pasta. My wife had a kale salad with chicken. The muse were cooked well and delicious. The only complaint would be the long wait for our appetizers, but the view of the lake made it very bearable. We definitely intend to return here. read more

The ambience of the restaurant was lovely and we were seated at a fabulous corner table with views of Lake Erie from 2 vantage points. However, the service was giving off "Denny's vibes". Our server threw a bunch of paper beverage napkins on the table and said something to the effect of "Here ya go!" While not otherwise rude, she was quite loud. We did not like being shown the specials on the "laptop-like device". It is just not something I'd expect to see at a "fine dining" restaurant. She brought out the salads just moments after the appetizer. We definitely felt she was trying to rush us out. At the end of the night, there were 2 errors on the bill. The food was good. Although we did not care for the salads, the appetizers were great and I enjoyed my salmon entree. I am aware how difficult it is to find great help so I will not let the service we received on this visit stop us from giving this place a second try. read more

OMG! Is the best way I can describe everything! The lobster deviled eggs had a lot of lobster and was awesome! My favorite appetizer was the hot banana pepper I had the lobster pasta my mom had the Cajun chicken and my aunt had the eggplant all of them were so delicious and seasoned to perfection. We're gonna push to 4 stars and avoid any fractions. Here's the thing with Olivers, which is on the 8th floor of the Hampton Inn on the Bay. The Lobster bisque (which I think was a special) was very tasty, as were the Firecracker shrimp (dubbed "Do't give up the Shrimp!" for a local reference reason) and our cocktails. Over our meal, had the Smokito and my fiancee had one of the manhattans and the Peanut Butter Kup. We loved all of them. She really enjoyed her sesame crusted tuna (an appetizer she got as her main) as well. The view is lovely. That and the great appetizers and lovely service push the place to 4 stars However, my Walleye sandwich was just okay and honestly needed to just have the coleslaw and aioli on the bread. That or just make the sandwich with a stronger fish. I wasn't really a fan. Also, the desert profiteroles, which having great pistachio ice cream inside, had were incredibly dry. read more

The atmosphere and ambience was amazing and the view wonderful. In Erie Pennsylvania for a work trip and had to check out the local restaurant of choice. While the manahattan was made to perfection the lobster pasta left a lot to be desired Kelsey my waiter was phenomenal and provided great service however the pasta needed truffle oil and a little salt and pepper to bring out its flavor. You're paying for the view at Oliver's Rooftop. As long as you're prepared for that, you'll walk away less disappointed about the food. Be sure you call up and specifically reserve a window-side table. I was stuck at a table with no view (about 70% of the restaurant) and wondered why I was even there paying those prices. I wouldn't even bother dining there if you can't enjoy the view. Service was polite and efficient. My old fashioned was good but the waiter didn't know what kinds of bourbon they stock, a skill I'd expect at a 3-dollar-sign establishment. My wife ordered a J. Lohr cabernet but whatever she got was definitely not that. The waiter will give you a photo slide show of their daily specials on an iPad. A cute idea, but she didn't describe any of them so you only have a photo for consideration. I ordered their "famous" Parmesan Crusted Walleye for $38. Walleye is a mild delicate fish and it was smothered it in a thick creamy sauce which of course ends up being all you can taste. It tasted good but it's a very odd choice on the chef's part. Accompanying the fish was a small pile of plain white rice and broccoli. The broccoli and rice were perfectly cooked but also perfectly plain. Not even a drizzle of EVOO on the broccoli to amp things up. I walked away wondering what I just paid $38 for? A nice piece of fish which I can't taste, plain rice and broccoli which I can make at home, and a ladle-full of parmesan cream sauce which was yummy but was the only item with taste on the expensive plate. I would love to understand the chef's thought process on this dish and why they say it's "famous"? I wouldn't recommend Oliver's for the food, but if you're looking for a nicer dining experience with polite service, good drinks, and a very nice view give it a shot! read more

We were not all seated on time for Sunday Brunch yer they still served our party of 7. The food and cocktails were amazing. We have now found our new favorite Brunch spot. With a view even in the winter to captivate you. I had crabcakes Benedict with tomatoes instead of muffin as I requested, plain fantastic, Greek scramble my one son's had they said it was something they will definitely come back for. This restaurant has amazing ambience and view. The service was outstanding. However, they weren't busy when we went at 11 AM. The food we ate was quite tasty and well presented. The prices are a little on the high side but some of the items are extravagant. You don't have to eat for too expensive if you get a burger here but if you want deviled lobster eggs or the seared Aji tuna, it's going to cost you a little more. The bar looked amazing, but I didn't get any drinks at that hour so I can't attest to how the drinks are. It looks like they had a good amount of wine choices. Many of the tables are unique and fun. I took some photos. They offer a very easy to read allergy menu. I attached a photo of it. I'm gluten-free and try to do dairy free so this restaurant made that extremely easy. The drawn butter with the lobster was great. The beer selection is not great. They don't have a good IPA. Cons: We made reservations 4 months ahead of time for our 38th anniversary. We drove 2 hours to this place and then they sat us at a tall, little round bar table! It was not comfortable. It ruined the atmosphere and I'll never go back. My husband and I dined here on Christmas Eve. It was our first time visiting Oliver's Rooftop. Our meal was delicious. The staff, from the host to the waitress to the bus staff, were wonderful, welcoming, friendly, and informative. The restaurant was decorated for the holidays and made for a very festive atmosphere.
