I would have understood that too since no one enjoys being held late. What I found was a crew happy to greet us and telling us to take the time that we needed to make some first-time visit decisions. There were still a couple of tables occupied when we were seated but within about 20 minutes, we had the place to ourselves. Nevertheless, we were never told to rush and even when the check was brought to me, our server told me with a genuine tone, "no rush". The pizza is from a brick oven and is best characterized as having a crispy, cracker-like crust with a red sauce bordering on the sweet side of the spectrum. The portions and toppings were fresh, generous, and appealing to the eye upon delivery. Definitely no complaints about the food! I really liked that they have an affordable and approachable wine list. We had a bottle of DOCG level Chianti for $29. Sure, the wines on the list are not going to win any worldwide gold medals or be on a collectible list but this is casual pizza and not a Michelin starred destination. You might be able to go to a spot with a fancy expensive wine list every few months. I could go here a few times per week. Let that sink in. I have not seen a decent bottle of wine in a restaurant at the pricing I saw here in quite some time! Kudos to Olive's for being affordable! For a first time visit, I loved several things here. I would be happy to go back for their pizza and wine list. But I am most happy to go back to support their pleasant and professional front of house staff. Got the Greek Salad which was good, but the pizza was DEFINITELY not too small we ended up taking a lot home. Pizza was delicious and very unique. Cracker like crust. My wife's guilty pleasure is a goat cheese pizza that Target sells under their brand and this pizza was like an elevated version of that. Super delicious. Finally tried Olive's after much too long of thinking about it. We placed a takeout order at the host stand and then walked around excelsior while waiting 20 min for the pizzas to be ready. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Walked them over to the lake and had a picnic by the water- highly suggest this! It was still warm and a beautiful setting to watch the boats pass by.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We did 2 personal pan sizes which was plenty for two people. Got the margherita and the Italian farmer. Both were delicious wood fired pizzas. My only complaint was the crushed tomato sauce on the margherita was too sweet for my liking. But both were fresh and had a nice crisp authentic crust. We needed lunch on a really hot Sunday and were able to get a table along the sidewalk in the shade - which was surprisingly comfortable. Our waitress was very friendly and kept things moving. We ordered a regular (too large in this case) pizza so we could get it 1/2 & 1/2. It was thin crust - our preference. We got half Fungo (three kinds of mushrooms and bacon) & half the Fresno (with figs and prosciutto) - it was very, very tasty. We liked both choices. My friends and I stopped in to Olives on a Sunday afternoon. I had heard from others that they had really good pizza which was good because my initial impression upon walking in the door was how messy the floor looked. Idk if there was a big party that had just left or lots of kids but it was in serious need of attention even just a quick sweep would have helped alot. Our party was too big to sit outside so after doing some eye contact silent conversation we decided to sit inside despite the state of the restaurant. All of the menu items sounded delicious we settled on the margarita and Athena pizza. I really liked the Athena with the gyro meat and tsatiki sauce also first time I've ever had cucumbers on a pizza but it worked. The food was great service was okay I don't think I ever hit a water refill despite drinking it almost all the way down. If I hadn't have already had a recommendation for the restaurant I may have just walked right out. I get the pizza bar vibe but just expected something a little nicer especially in excelsior. I've gone to the Olive's White Bear Lake location for many years before it closed and there was always exceptional pizza and staff there. This is my first time to this location and I would say that not much is different! The staff was very friendly and prompt and the atmosphere was buzzing with energy. We did have to wait like 20 minutes for a table but were able to chill at the bar for a beer while we waited and the time went by quickly. My only gripe is that The Alaskan, my usual go-to here, was lacking a bit in ingredients around the outside of the pizza as there were some slices that were literally just bread. I will definitely come back and try out some of the pizzas I haven't tried before though! read more

My family and I went to Olive's a few weeks ago during the but Christmas Market even happening around the corner. This meant the restaurant was pretty busy, but I felt like the servers were still very much on top of their tables! The pizza was okay - nothing to write home about, but I do like the diversity of their menu. I think it really depends what kind of pizza you like. Olive's crust is cracker thin and that's just not my preferred style. That said, I had been previously and enjoyed the Thai pizza. I would say don't bother with the more basic pizzas like margherita or cheese/pepperoni as you may be disappointed. You'll need to find street parking which can be hit or miss. Also, bathrooms are down a short hallway so just be aware. I'd go back in a pinch but it's definitely not my favorite pizza spot. read more

My husband & I went to Olive's Fresh Pizza Bar for date night and it was great! We ordered the Caprese & Cecilia pizza and man was it good! My favorite would have to be the Caprese as the flavor was just mouth watering! The Cecilia was good but wasn't my favorite. I would of preferred the Cecilia with red sauce vs. the olive oil base. A very family friendly, family owned establishment. Great energy and is well loved by the community since it was packed on a Friday night. We checked in with no reservations. I highly recommend making reservations especially if there is a local event going on. They gave us a wait time that was extremely accurate and experience was well worth the wait. We started with wine my husband ordered the Cabernet and asked for a recommendation for sweet wine and they gave a good suggestion on their riesling. We then ordered the Olive House Pizza but without the mushrooms or onions. It had a little bit of everything which is what I like. It is a wood fired pizza that has light and airy crust with the perfect crunch. Toppings we so fresh! We had the pleasure of chatting with the owner and his family and they were so welcoming, kind and made sure we had everything we needed. They even gave us a tasting of a local brewery's October fest beer. Very tasty. This will be added to our list of regular local favorite spots. read more

This is THE pizza place in Excelsior and we're lucky it's so darn good! I started getting takeout from Olive's during lockdown and haven't stopped since! All of the food is delicious. I even like the gluten free crust -- a feat! My top recommendations are the Caprese (my only recommendation is to order extra balsamic) and the Fresno. My family loves the Olive's House. Happy hour here is a WINNER. I don't remember what they were called but they have these really yummy mozzarella swirl things that are to die for. If you want to get takeout make sure to order earlier in the day, otherwise you'll be eating a late dinner. They're popular and deservedly so! My oh my!!! This place came highly recommended by a very trusted member of the 'PurpleFam' community and it did not disappoint. A group of 6 of us who met in the area for Prince related festivities decided to go here for dinner on a Saturday evening. Unfortunately, I was unable to make a reservation as they on allow that for parties of 8 or greater. Regardless, the wait was not long and because of the location we were able to sit outside and people watch. Once seated our sever stopped by to explain the menus and take our drink orders. In not time we had a couple bottles of wine were in front of us and we placed our orders. So that we could sample several pizzas, we ordered several regular sized pizzas (15" square) along with a few personal ones (10" square). Duff was our server and he did an exceptional job!!! He checked on us just as glasses (and bottles) were emptied to see if we wanted more. He did such an excellent job that he proactively stopped by to apologize for the length of time it was taking for our pizzas to be ready (we did not realize the amount of time that had passed...I blame it on the wine) and because of the delay he graciously comp'd us a round of wine. He informed us that the volume of online/phone orders has increased significantly which impacts queue as orders are processed as they come in regardless of whether they are carryout of dine in. Thankfully, when our pizzas were served, they did not disappoint as they were all delicious and worth the wait. While they were all super tasty the star of the night was the Fresno (I highly recommend ordering this). Located in Excelsior in a very busy part of town that includes blocks of shops, restaurants, and bars, Olive's Fresh does not have its own parking lot. That said, parking was relatively easy to find as there are plenty of public lots around along with a vast amount of street parking. Also, to be noted, this location is only a few blocks from Lake Minnetonka (yes, that Lake Minnetonka). Thankfully, they do not require one to purify themselves in it before being served. As we closed out our tab and prepared to leave our server mentioned that they are opening a second location soon (I believe he said it will be in Chanhassen but don't quote me on that). Unlike the Excelsior location which serves only beer and wine, the new location will have a full bar. From the service to the ambiance to the food, I had an awesome experience at Olive's Fresh and it is now on the list of places that I will check out on every visit to the Minneapolis area. read more

It's a family run, local pizza spot that warms the heart! Second, their wine pours are BIG! I love a good wine and pizza combo, and this is some of the best value and quality I've seen. Great selection to pair with your pizzas. Now the star of the show is their pizza: thin crust, fired in a big wood-burning oven, with so many inventive topping options...ever had smoked salmon on a pizza? My favorite is the Italian Farmer, with a healthy serving a yummy veggies, roasted chicken, and bacon! They also have a monthly "special" pizza that I'm always excited to try. I came in here over the weekend with my family. We needed to get in and out quickly as we were approaching a naptime apocalypse. We also did not want to spend $75 on lunch at one of the pricier places on this street. We were seated and our server was friendly, and we got our food order in quickly. The pizza itself was odd - it was round-ish and the crust was cracker thin and it was cut like a grid. Maybe this is a Midwest thing. The pizza itself was ok, again I am not a huge fan of the pizza out here. We also got cheese bread - pizza crust with cheese melted on it with marinara on the side. Simple, but effective with toddlers. While the food was mediocre, the service was great. The guy was the only one on the floor and he was running around but when I said we were in a hurry he did his best to keep it moving. When the food hit the table, I asked for the check and he not only brought it right away, he also brought take away boxes and a plastic bag (which we needed). Nice touch. Another nice touch is a family at the table next to us tipped their pizza on the floor and without asking, just make them another pizza to go. Very nice service. read more

They have a lot of exotic toppings - the Fresno for instance includes toppings like Sliced Fig, Red Onion, Gorgonzola, Prosciutto, Greens, Aged Balsamic, Pear, and Shaved Parmesan. My wife and I met up with some friends for lunch on a Sunday. I ordered an IPA and a few minutes later, our pals showed up. I ordered the Alaskan personal pizza, which had salmon and cream cheese on it, with capers. Really good. I parked my car in the designated Olive's parking spots next to the restaurant. There was no way to pay with cash or card, only a QR code for a website. I entered my info and was sent to an error screen that said parking was unavailable for purchase at that time. Oh well, I thought, maybe it's free on weekends. Then I got the exorbitant parking ticket in the mail a month later. I had money and would have been fine paying to park. I'm sure it's been like this for years. This is our favorite dine in pizza place in the SW Burbs. Dinner always starts with a drink, right? Well this place is beer and wine only, but man do they hook you up. These are the MOST generous wine pours in The Cities. There are twelve taps of craft beer and Mich Lite in bottles if you need it. For pizza, make sure to check their monthly special. It's always something interesting. Speaking of pizza, I should mention that it's not a typical red sauce joint, but they can do that if you desire. Also, if you're going gluten free, they have the BEST gluten free crust ever. It's not the pre made Udi's one. It's hand rolled and manages to be crispy and NOT chewy. Awesome!
