I wanted to do something special for my husband for his 40th birthday. I picked Olivia's for the outside seating. I went into the restaurant the beginning of July to book the party. The person, apparently the owner, who oks parties was not there. I was assured I'd be called back in a timely fashion. That timely fashion was the wed a week before the party. Every time I called the owner Harry was never there. But finally one time I called I was patched through to his cell phone. I gave him the final head count and details, including I would be bringing a cake. NEVER ONCE IN 3 MONTHS was there a mention that I would be paying a $2.50 plate charge for bringing my own cake nor was there any written contract. $70!!! $70 in plate fees to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday. But here is the kicker, when asked to speak with Harry, guess what, he wasn't there. So after waiting ten minutes Harry shows up. When confronted with the slight problem he says what did you expect bringing outside food into a restaurant? This is how I make my living. Who's going to pay the dish washer? When confronted with the fact that we were never told, and that it only takes about 30-60¢ to run a cycle in an industrial dish washer, and asked why he was never here, He replied with I was at home counting my money. I don't have to work. I just drive my sports car ( which is only a Camaro btw). Asked the server if paid and then told us to get the fuck out. Then stormed off and tried to peel out in his little Camaro sports car. In all the years I have worked in the restaurant business I have never been treated so poorly. And apparently he treats his employees the same way as those that I have talked to have nothing nice to say about him. We were there for almost 5 hours. In those 5 hours there were MAYBE 20 other people in the entire restaurant. But the $1000 my people dropped wasn't good enough. Harry I hope your home counting your money. Olivia's is probably the best-kept secret of Southern Gettysburg. Everytime I'm driving to get there, I wonder "have I gone to far?" until I ultimately see that sign on the right welcoming me to this homey Greek-inspired place. The food is pretty great. I've come on dates and with groups of friends, and there's always something for someone! I usually go for a few Mezedes (appetizers) to get a sampling of flavors. To be honest, some of them are pretty big, so this is a great way to enjoy the flavors of Greece. My favorites are the stuffed grape leaves with loads of tzatziki and the Saganaki (if you've never had this baked cheese finished with a flambéed cognac and a squeeze of lemon, you must try it!). The salads are great and not shy on the feta. The sandwiches are pretty awesome - souvlaki, gyros, and veggie pitas are all on point. The wine list even includes some Greek wines, which seems appropriate Prices are a little steep for some of the dishes, though you can definitely get an affordable meal if you stick to sandwiches and certain appetizers. The waitstaff has always been pretty great when I go. And if you drop in on a weekend evening, some local musician will be sure to impress and set a chilled out mood. First time here. I got the gyro with fries, and baklava for dessert. The gyro was very filling. Fries were seasoned. The baklava was in more of a pie shape, and looser than other baklavas I've had, but it was tasty nonetheless. The bill for two people was pretty pricey, but the food we got was good, and our waitress Katie was excellent. Oh, they also give complimentary homemade bread and hummus while you wait for your meal, and both were great! The bread was warm and crusty on the outside, soft on the inside. We arrived for dinner without reservations and while it was busy, our party of three was seated immediately. Our server, Megan, was fantastic. She was attentive, friendly, polite, and had perfect timing. The food was all delicious beginning with the complementary fresh bread and flavorful hummus. The smokey chipotle bbq wings were perfectly crispy and the sauce was tasty. The spanokopita was the best I ever had and the portion very generous. Olivia's is a favorite restaurant for a special night out or for any occasion. Savvy tourists do find it but otherwise you're not battling the summer Gettysburg crowds (no pun intended). Lots of specials on the menu that we enjoyed last month. I did enjoy Yaya's homemade meatballs, I believe there were three varieties. My husband had the gyro, my son had the amazing white pizza. We were all very happy with our selections. If you go on certain evenings you will be entertained by the great Herb Sell on keyboard, makes for a romantic evening. She never asked if we wanted inside or outside, she plopped our menus on a booth over a railing. She never said "a server will be with you", "welcome to Olivia's", or anything else. The server was very inexperienced and needed some training. I believe that responsibility falls on Olivia's. We probably won't be back. We used to be regulars but there are other places to go that have better food and better service. Try C&D Grille in Abbottstown. Much better. Olivia's is a Mediterranean restaurant, so naturally one would expect garlic in the food. I love garlic as much as anyone else, but there is a threshold. Yesterday's food was imbalanced by excessive garlic. The food was also over-salted. For the area, Olivia's is a decent spot for lunch or dinner. Olivia's is just outside Gettysburg on Rt 97 S. It looks like a cross between Greek taverna and a bar. Outside is a nice place to sit and eat, inside was very dark. Menu is Mediterranean. I had a very good soulvaki, pork was marinated and just cooked right. Friend had the gyro. I had a salad with mine and fried had seasoned fries. Around $10 the price was a little high. There was too much tadziki sauce which could have used more cucumber and garlic. The salad was good with a home made Greek dressing. I went to Olivia's pretty frequently as a college student. Five years later, I don't know if my standards have risen, or if Olivia's has just really dropped in quality. First, serving beer in a frosted glass is a no-no. But we did get to try a beer we had never had before, so that's a plus. The bruschetta and garlic bread were basically the same thing, the bruschetta just had some cheese and tomatoes in it. Both were way too greasy. I got the spanikopita, which was severely lacking in feta cheese. It was also much too greasy. It was also accompanied by garlic bread, making the meal just way too greasy and carb-loaded. The Greek salad bread bowl was ridiculous. It was the size I would have put on my dinner table for 4-5 people. The bread wasn't very good, but the feta was delicious - I wish there had been more in my spanikopita! It was all iceberg lettuce, it was very difficult to eat, and just not very great. It was mostly lettuce, so we weren't getting enough of the good stuff - peppers, olives, tomatoes, etc. The service was fine, and it's gives you a little variety from what downtown Gettysburg has to offer. read more

A nice restaurant in a weird area between Littlestown and Gettysburg that is seemingly always crowded. It's a bit of an "odd" place really. Part high end restaurant, part bar food posing as a high end restaurant. The crowd was very mixed; some snow on the roof and bulging waistlines, some underdressed young barflies. Been there once years ago, and went again recently. Entree prices are fairly high, but our waitress was very friendly and efficient, and the tap prices for good craft beer surprisingly affordable at $5 per pour. My wife had a Korean steak dish that was well prepared and nicely spiced. Steak was cooked perfectly. I had an appetizer of Thai chili wings which were dry and surprisingly bland with very little flavor. My moussaka was good as a basic Greek dish. Nothing remarkable. The linguine bread bowl was massive, but it's also cheap to produce, so you sort of expect to get more. The quality of the food was not consistent, though not so bad that I won't go back. For a restaurant in a slightly awkward location, I think the food was overall good and the wait staff was quick and accommodating. It's still a restaurant with an identity crisis, in my opinion. I'm having a difficult time with this review (three stars or four) but give it a shot if your in the area. read more

Olivia gets 4 stars because I feel guilty. I've eaten there twice on two different dates. I can't remember the food (I think it was good) but I wouldn't date the people again-avoid [the people] at all costs. The 2nd time we went there was a huge birthday party going on, but that didn't effect service: speedy and nice. There's a big sign on the side of the building "bikers welcome." Great for Gluten Free and more As I'm enjoying my leftovers from last night's meal I want to review Olivias. My husband and I shared the trio of salads and the seafood Mac and cheese. The salads were creative and good but the Mac and cheese was outstanding. They prepared it with gluten free pasta and none in the cheese either. The portions were perfect for sharing. Several months ago, my wife and I were in the Gettysburg area and were looking for a good lunch spot. We decided on Olivia's after driving around the area and not finding too many other options that interested us. Very few cars were parked outside (uh oh). From the outside, the place is not very impressive. Inside it's somewhat dim and cozy (realtor speak for small). The server was friendly and fairly attentive. I ordered a gyro with fries ($13.99). My wife had the Greek Crab Melt ($16.99). Both were overpriced for what we received. Her sandwich was tasty and my gyro was okay, but did not taste as good as the gyro I usually get in Lancaster, which is several dollars cheaper for the same food and better tasting. We skipped the overpriced dessert and decided we felt no need to return. Bathrooms were nice and fairly clean. My advice: unless you like overpriced food, keep driving past Olivia's and go elsewhere. read more
