First time at any Ollie's, this Streamwood location makes use of a lot of floor space to provide a wide variety of products at discounted prices. We were eating close by, and needed to stop by to a new hair dryer. We saw the giant Ollie's sign, and my MIL exclaimed "I like Ollie's...like Big Lot's...but BETTER". So we needed to stop by there first (there was always a Walmart near by if the attempt was a wash). There were signs everywhere proudly proclaiming how they are able to sell so cheap (bought volume from bankruptcies)...though pretty sure they buy excess inventory. It did remind me of a Big Lots, but a lot better selection. It turns out, they did have a name brand hair dryer, and they bought a hair straightener too. They had a very large book section with a lot of hardcover books at discounted prices (e.g. $5.95). There were things like air mattresses, small kitchen appliances, a large selection of room rugs (12x15 for $119!) in the back, different sizes of auto wiper blades, and even lawn fertilizers. Checkout consisted of one line, so took a bit of time. They clearly mark their return policies, which is very generous. And they accept credit cards with no service charge. The very large Walmart close by seemed to have chased a lot of the retail stores out of this area. It's nice to see that Ollie's seems to be doing well, giving more reason to come by this area.

This is my fourth Ollie's. It is in my rotation for household items. We did a big purchase today of an air frier / toaster oven but also picked up pretzels, chips, and pantry items like salad dressing and microwavable rice. I see back-to-school as a big business for them. We were hoping to find an air-conditioner but we need a wall-mount unit. The staff have been friendly and helpful at all locations. Last month I finally signed up for their loyalty club and got the 15% off of my purchase today; it was over $20 off of items that are already cheaper then elsewhere!

The place is filthy to the point where it smells bad. They obviously don't give a damn about their customers or whether they have customers.

As a person that loves to decorate and loves a bargain even more, At Home has some great options…read morefor home decoration at super reasonable prices. I love Marshall's and TJ Maxx and At Home tends to run a little cheaper but the quality is still great. My favorite part is their candle aisle! An entire aisle dedicated to candles and organized by their regular and then seasonal candles. There are plenty of clearance sections too!!!!

"At Home" was advertised on Pandora radio during summer. As a homeowner, I wanted to see what this…read moresuperstore was about yet didn't have a chance to do so. Well, I should say I wasn't really eager to travel to a brick-and-mortar store since online shopping for home is more convenient, and often times, cheaper without having to leave the comfort of my own residence. The first impression I had was how similar it was to "HomeGoods," except it was a larger space. There were Christmas trees and decorations near the entrance, three (3) aisles of chairs I saw next, and planters, gardening essentials, poufs and ottomans against the walls. I then spotted some sofas, loveseats, and outdoor furniture toward the back of venue. I then walked through the rug and carpet department. It was quite disorganized. Items were picked over and placed on the floor instead of getting put back on the shelves. Well, this phenomenon was often seen in many retail stores post-holidays or on the weekends. I wasn't shocked, but I knew perhaps the associates and managers there could do a better job on maintaining the best visual. In addition, I noticed some items were damaged or having minor defects. Hubby and I were looking for a planning board with the days of week that we could write on daily activities or meal-prep-related messages. The one we originally wanted to purchase had a broken hook. Fortunately, we spotted another style on the other side. With that being said, conduct detailed quality check before you commit on buying anything at the store. Many tables already had scratches, dents, or uneven legs. I guess we would meet these damaged goods pretty soon at Marshall's, TJ Maxx, or HomeGoods with deeper discounts? No se, pero "we shall see!" The trip to "At Home" wasn't exactly a waste, even though I did have to admit the prices weren't exactly the lowest one could find. This is the year of 2018. E-commerce is now the sh*t. Therefore, I would certainly encourage you all to do more web browsing before cruising on the road.

I've been shopping at Menards for many years and love their 11percent off sales. Needed to pick up…read moreone item the other day and was able to get in out quickly. They had plenty of open cashier's. Stores are clean, and seem to have almost everything under the sun for a home improvement store.

Not having been back to a Menards in a very long time, I found the prices still to be the lowest…read moreamong the major home improvement centers (i.e. Home Depot, Lowes), but the service this time was really good. Frankly, this surprised me. Menards was a very important name early in my adulthood where free moments were occupied doing various things related to home improvement, and every weekend meant at least one trip to Menards. You accepted the observation that service and quality was better at other places, but the prices couldn't be beat and you had to weigh how long the product had to last. And for things that needed to be changed out (batteries, light bulbs), buying it at Menards was a no-brainer. Also, I worked in Wisconsin, and many co-workers would tell unpleasant stories about friends who worked at HQ and the main DC in Eau Claire. So this is the view that I lived with. This time my BIL wanted to go to Menards initially, so that's where we started. I ended up going back by myself multiple times because of my experience (and will probably go back again while in Chicago). There were multiple times when I couldn't find what I was looking for (I had time so didn't mind wandering a bit), or had to do something different (purchase toilets that would be later picked up by our contractor)...and each time, when I asked someone in that giant warehouse, they would direct me to the right place, call someone over to help, or walk me to the place that had it if I had gotten lucky and asked the right department. Every person was pleasant and didn't appear to be in a hurry (which greatly helps a customer not feel bad about interrupting). Some things don't change though...this week, they have their 11% rebate on everything sale...20 years ago, I remember coordinating getting the right rebate form, sending the right receipt with it, actually mailing it in, and then forgetting about it, until a postcard came later with a credit to spend at Menards. They are notorious for this...the other box retailers have made rebates more automatic and digital, Menards continues to use postal mail, mainly so a larger percentage of people just drop out...plus it is a store credit, so it encourages to shop more in the future. And of course, because they are so big, they have the opportunity to purchase things not related to home improvement in bulk at certain times, and pass the savings on to their customer. They have groceries (not great prices), but you will also find baked goods, and frozen shrimp for really low prices. You just can't depend on it always being available.
