If you're anywhere near Franklin, NJ, RUN, don't walk to Olluco Bistro! This was hands-down the BEST food we've had on our trip. Everything we ordered was AMAZING. The Peruvian roasted chicken was quite possibly the best I've ever had. And the crispy skin?! If crispy chicken were an ASMR video, this would absolutely blow it out of the water. The flavor, the crunch, the juiciness... PERFECTION. The Peruvian steak skewers (anticuchos) are an absolute MUST. Seriously -- don't skip these! My daughter was in heaven over the mac & cheese, and the empanadas were truly one of a kind. But what made the experience even better was the family behind the food. Olluco is family-owned and family-run, and you can feel how much heart they put into what they do. They were genuinely some of the kindest people we've met -- warm, welcoming, and clearly passionate about their food. This little place is a hidden gem and absolutely worth seeking out. The food is creative, flavorful, fresh and made with so much care. 10/10 -- HIGHLY recommend! We're only here for a few days and somehow keep finding restaurants that make us want to extend the trip. Ummm hello? This is my new jam when I'm in town. What?! Real food, seasoned perfectly, and fall off the bone. And wait wait, I can get plantains, near Sussex?! I've been blessed ! Olluco offers homemade bbq, and some extras that will make you happy. The prices are decent too. For me, traveling with the kids is always tough because eventually you need to find real protein.....they can't survive on pizza and hot dogs for very long. We came here and got the chicken and Peruvian fried rice. The rice had great flavor and lots of veggies(peppers, zucchini, etc...). The chicken was seasoned PERFECTLY and so tender, like even the breast was juicy! We also got ribs and they were fall off the bone!! Yes finally, ribs that are seasons with a delicious rub(no need for sauce) and also fall off the bone tender. Yummo!! The place is very shack-esc lol...there's no decor and maybe 2 tables and a bar too. You can dine in but really it's more of a takeout joint, and that's OK! You can also grab drinks from the cold case. No fountain unfortunately. This is my new stop, I HOPE they stay in business so please give them a try my local Sussex friends! read more

Stopped in on a recent Sunday after seeing an amazing sandwich posted on a Sandwich Lovers page. Unfortunately it was a Special and nothing on the regular menu was like it. Small deli-like place with a few tables owned by a very nice, friendly couple. Plenty of non -alcoholic drinks ( cans & bottles) in a refrigerator wall. Parking in front and right on Route 23. One unisex bathroom. Typical BBQ road-stand with some Spanish influences. Portions large with ok pricing for these days. --Pork ribs ( approx 7-8 on a 1\2 rack) fell off the bone; good flavor, nice smoke ring; however they were obviously smoked earlier and reheated for me which dried out the top portion a little. --Pulled Pork sandwich with cole slaw and crispy onions was ok, but again, pulled pork a little dried out due to reheating/ --Mac & Cheese was very good. Breadcrumbs on top; Portion is plenty for 2 hungry people as a side. I recommend to try it; Not a lot of restaurant options in that area other than fast food. read more

Finally! I have finally found a good to place near home. I am 3 for 3 here. Every visit...outstanding! I stopped by the day they opened and picked up their breakfast sandwich, loved it. Loved the cheeses melted on the roll, the amount and cook on the pork roll and the flavor of the entire sandwich. Second visit...vegetable fried rice, Crispy Chicken BLT Sandwich, Pulled Pork and the Brisket. The fried rice was great, my wife got the BLT (I fortunately got a part of it) which was also super. I am a huge BBQ fan and this met my standards. The Pulled Pork was flavorful and juicy. The Brisket was spot on! Great smoky flavor, nice bark and great seasoning. I asked for the fatty cut and loved it. The included sides were great as well. Visit three...Olluco Burger and the Cuban Sandwich. My wife got the burger. The bites I got (stole) were excellent. The bacon, the cheese, the red onion jam (COME ON!) and the flavor of the hand formed patty made for a great burger. The Cuban, oh that Cuban! Was the best Cuban I have had. Every time I try to order they say they ran out. It's frustrating. I heard the food was great but I can't seem to get any.

I stopped by on a whim. Wanted lunch and I was out. Ordered the Cuban Sandwich, side salad and a soda. They cook as you order. So maybe order ahead. The roll was delicious and the Swiss cheese, ham, and pork loin were embellished mustard and pickles. It was so good. Crispy and pressed. There are 3 tables. It is cozy inside and great as a carry out. Next time, I'll try the BBQ Brisket. It comes recommended. read more

I always start with the positives if there are any...and this place DEF has positives. First of all, the food is OUTSTANDING. Arroz Chaufa with Beef is the BEST I have ever had...servings are PLENTIFUL, beef is top quality and SUPER tender, ALWAYS served hot and fresh, in costly vented containers. Great for reuse later on. We have ordered the empanadas-beef and chicken-NEVER dried out, always moist and tender. The sides are worth the extra $, especially the maduros, baked beans, and mac n cheese (unless you're super-picky). I can't say enough about the quality and quantity of the food. Also there are plenty of bottled/canned drinks to choose from AND some postres also! CALL AHEAD for your order as it takes TIME to prepare. You will wait a longggg time if you just walk in! Parking is a bit dicey and you're swooping in off busy Route 23. Location is easy to miss-look for the smoker outside!!!! Last, but certainly NOT least, customer service is EVERYTHING. And depending on who it is, you might be offended...the younger ones CAN BE rude on the phone and in person. This has happened several times-chalk it up to their age (maybe lol). I was leaving a conference at a resort in the area where we had very mediocre food and was in search of some good food before heading home. My friend and I found this place online and decided to stop for lunch and were so glad we found this place! Everything we ate was amazing. We split the lemon pepper wings and each got the Cuban sandwich. This was the best Cuban I've ever had. So the interior could use some sprucing up, and it's not exactly a place to dine in (...yet!) but I was surprised to discover how amazing the food tasted! 1st thing I ordered off the menu was a slow smoked brisket (1/2 lb) on top of sofrito rice, w/ BBQ sauce on the side. Based on recommendation seen in Nextdoor, ventured out to Olluco Bistro for lunch. They opened March 1st and offer a Smoked BBQ / Peruvian Fusion menu....everything fresh and homemade Presently, mostly take-out....we tried smoked chicken wings, and Empanadas...both were great, nicely sized portions and fairly priced. Afterward we had an opportunity to speak with Chef Brian and his wife, Maggie and were able to watch the Smoked ribs come off the grill. My 8 year old son said the pulled pork sandwich was the best sandwich he has ever had. The ribs were perfection. I was recently in Memphis and these beat anything i had there. Maduros, sweet potato fries and regular fries were great as well. Staff were friendly and love that it's a family business. We were at Mountain Creek and were happy to find this place on our way home. The steak skewers with a sauce that is amazing. The place only has two tables and a countertop. So if you're planning to eat there, you may have to wait.
