After dinner, a colleague and I found a close by dessert place not too far so decided to walk over and give it a try. To my surprise they had a variety of options including vegan cupcakes and soft serve (vegan chocolate and mango sorbet). It has been hard to find vegan options generally but especially desserts while in Albuquerque. I ended up getting the vegan strawberry cupcake which was moist, not too sweet and a perfect size that satisfied my sweet tooth without overwhelming it. We stopped by after having lunch in Nob Hill. Having been most recently disappointed with a frozen yogurt chain this visit was refreshing. My husband had his usual chocolate and vanilla and loved it! Frozen yogurt was thick, creamy. I had a mango and watermelon sorbet combo, it was icy, smooth and tasty. Just as I like it. Still has an off putting ambiance in this establishment. To sample the yogurt they essentially have to hand feed you the samples. Not very welcoming overall and the creepy art still hangs making everyone uncomfortable. The service is fine the times I've gone there's an unenthusiastic older gentleman and teenager who I assume is his son. The yogurt is fine there been a slow decline in overall quality over the years. After our awesome zoom badge bash and baking class I had to stop in. Unfortunately due to my work schedule I wasn't able to make it during the week as the business hours collided with my work schedule so I couldn't like up my swag bag or the cookie kits. Luckily Verlynda welcomed me in and recognized me from the classes. She walked me through everything they do at Olo. If I would've known sooner they had ice cream I might of stopped by a long time ago. I'd seen the place passing through non hill but never went in so it was cool that we had the class and were able to check out the place to pick up. Again since I didn't get a kit I was able to luckily get some fresh made cookies! I chose to buy 2 of the Olo cookies, and 2 chocolate chip cookies. The cookies had a nice texture. They were not too crunchy and not too soft. They were actually just about right. The Olo had very distinct flavor similar to wedding cookies. That's the best way to describe it, the sprinkles inside were a nice touch. The chocolate chip was the same texture with a good amount of chocolate chips (not too many, and not too little). Verlynda was very polite and friendly. She really brings that place to life. I'm so glad I stopped in and got to meet her in person and check out the place. I'll gladly be returning! read more

Olo!!!!! I went to pick up my grab-bag for the 2021 elites. I decided to buy some soft serve and cupcakes while I was there, because when in Rome. The soft serve has always been good. I got the cake batter and this time got the pistachio mixed with it. I got 5 cupcakes too. One vegan chocolate. Two strawberry. Two vanilla. I'm disappointed in the strawberry. It was still raw in the middle and the moisture of the rawness made it stick to the cup. The vanilla ones were hard. Like they were made yesterday? The vegan chocolate one was perfection. I'd say if you're in the mood for cupcakes, stick to the other options-- like Q-Cakes (also on Central). Nevertheless, the COVID restrictions were on point here. They put the toppings on for you. They have hand sanitizer that you're *supposed* to use prior to getting your cup for soft serve (but there isn't really enforcement of this). The staff is kind, but is this because they knew I was with Yelp? Everyone was masked and staff wore gloves (but here's the thing if the group of 5 folks that came in after me were not forced or it wasn't enforced to sanitize hands before touching the cups-- once they hand off to staff for topping whatever is on their hands is transmitted). There is a sign, to use the sanitizer, but it is not enforced. Not while I was there. No one wiped the soft serve handles down after I used them either. Here is a very important upside to me though: they have a 10% military discount and the cake batter soft serve is always amazing. They have an awesome points system. The staff has always been friendly. Just don't get your cupcakes there. I hadn't been to Olo in a minute but today I stopped by for my Yelp swag bag and to my surprise they had cupcakes, muffins, cookies and scones! They still have fro-yo with plenty of toppings to create your own unique treat. I selected the vegan chocolate cupcake and it was moist, chocolate, and not too sweet. Perfection. I saved the best for last. They let me know they just pulled green chile scones from the oven so naturally I had to try them and I had one in the car because they were warm...OMG I'm drooling just thinking about it, warm buttery with just the right amount of green chile. I went by this Nob Hill business to pick up some Yelp swag and really liked this establishment. It's a nice little place with several selections of frozen yogurt. You can serve your own yogurt from the machines and then there are all sort of toppings that they can add for your yogurt. There is various fruit toppings, candy toppings, etc. They also have prepackaged yogurt in a freezer which is what I picked up to bring home. Their frozen yogurt is "delicious ". Because of Covid, you can order ahead and they will bring it out curbside if you prefer not to go in. Very nice staff. We picked up a cookie kit for the yelp elite event a bit ago. Since we were in, we decided to get some of the super tasty frozen yogurt. The event went well and the cookies from their were some of the best sugar cookies we've ever had. They were perfect with the excellent pumpkin frozen yogurt that we picked up as a prepared pint. We really like that prepared pints are available in addition to the classic build-your-own froyo sundae and a collection of tasty baked things. We were super impressed with the social distancing and safety procedures, including full wipe-down of all the soft serve machines by gloves staff after each customer use, gloves in use by staff when handling serving spoons for toppings as customers direct the build of desserts, and low-to-no contact payment after which, we saw the staff complete full hand hygiene between customers. Since we're healthcare professionals, seeing our local dessert studio take such care with health safety is really reassuring. We didn't build our own sundae at our last visit, but we plan to go back and do so, as well as try some of the new additions to the array of baked goods. read more

Frozen yogurt? What? SERIOUSLY THOUGH.... W O W. Very good. I like that they give you options to make your own mix of flavors or get a premade container. You don't get to add toppings to the premade fcontainers which blows but you can add any and whatever toppings to your own creations. They weigh them to determine price so warning, you might choose more than you think, so be aware of how much you are filling your container as there is only one large size. Picked up dough and directions for cookie making and some Gruet bubbly. Shop is cute and clean. Have hand sanitizer and a credit card machine that requires no hand touching. I am making the cookies myself and will let all my friends about their dough. You do need almond extract and vanilla...most of us have after Christmas for sure. Staff was terrific. Really good yo. I called to see if they had my all time favorite: Peanut Butter. THEY HAD IT. I went it to the cute little shop with magical ceiling lines and went straight to the good stuff. I didn't really get any attention from the high school girls working the counter. The quality of the yo was creamy and perfect. I always top mine with almonds and Heath bar. They had those, thus securing a great experience with everything I wanted! With 8 flavors of froyo and 4 swirl options you will find one or more you'll like. Topping options are off the hook! Fuggetaboutit they got cray cray options. Dividers provided help to keep yo options separated. But no shame in mixing whateves you want. Decor/ambiance are pleasing and customer service is adequate. Isn't an ice cream/frozen yogurt business a no-brainer in ABQ? One would imagine, but the recent demise of a Nob Hill gelato shop has me second-guessing. Aside from Cold Stone, I can't think of many stand-alone creameries that have survived the test of time in this city. Even the Dairy Queen down Central by the bus depot has departed. There are success stories, but the formula seems to demand that a business provide something alongside the sweets, like sandwiches or shopping items, to thrive. I'm praying to my caramel chocolate gods that Olo bucks the trend, 'cause this place is money. This is how a typical visit to one of these shops goes for me: I walk up to the thick-paned plastic windows, peer into the vats of available flavors, pick out maybe five or six that I would love to try, then choose one and hope it's a winner. And usually it isn't, I have reservations, I'm sad I didn't choose something else. Nearly every time that's how the whole experience goes down. Not at Olo. The very best aspect of the entire setup, in my opinion, is the fact that you can sample every flavor of frozen yogurt available on your own time by your own hand, rather than asking an employee to fetch. I sampled - you guessed it - five of them, before coming across the One... My Precious... Schmiegel loved up on the chocolate. Chocolate frozen yogurt? Yep, it was quite good. I then proceeded to do something akin to asking for curry "Thai Hot". I smothered the bastard with caramel, peanut butter, and brownie nuggets - ruffly seven, eight toppings - thus completely submerging the authenticity of the yogurt itself. But oh well, it was fabulous. Another wonderful aspect of the setup was my ability to measure my portion, as opposed to some zit-faced kid rolling a massive scoop onto a cone or a cup. I wasn't up for that kind of gorge-gasm, I was feeling rather modest, and the cost ended up reflecting that approach. Really fair price, wonderful sweets/fresh fruit selection, vibrant interior, friendly employees: I'm there, and so is my 14 year-old. One aside: the cashier was occasionally peering through Stephen Colbert's latest book during her downtime, and I was really happy to observe this. I worked the service industry for at least a decade in many capacities, from soda jerk to high end table service, and one thing I couldn't handle were micro-managing shift supervisors who waited for a moment of peace and tranquility to arrive so they could jump on my back about some asinine project or side work, just because there wasn't anything else to do. Sometimes it's actually good to relax a little at work, too. Promoting a work environment where employees can find the time to joke around a little, or read, or whatever, also promotes trust and goodwill. Nice job, Olo. read more

The review will be something like my treat last night. Short and to the point. (wait for the pun) I like frozen yogurts and I like it here too. I dig the variety of toppings, and the flavors I chose were good ones. FYI, I did not opt for the monster jumbo container and I went more sweet than tart. Thank heaven for the small sample cups. It let me know that a few of those flavors were NOT for me! I liked my chocoholic, fruit loop flavor & fruity sorbet (name escapes me). Props for the divider which helps keep my stuff from mixing up into odd flavors. Overall, it's like any other fro-yo shop to me. Living in Cali spoiled me and, like yoga, ATM's or sushi, we expect them everywhere. They seem to blend into each other. I like the clean, bright feel of these places and I like the option of choosing to sit in/outdoors. This one checks those boxes. I give this one extra props for being local, in Nob Hill and half props for a good product/experience. The girl behind the counter was friendly and efficient even as her shift was ending. So, why three stars? That's because my g.f. broke a tooth on a hard gummy bear. Simple...and that should be enough said. Except we were stopping for Chocolate Dude - b/c we love it. I, yes I (not her) strayed from that idea, to lead us in for this yogurt. She agreed and I felt bad for making that move. So, what's done is done, but I cannot reward the hard bear. Being from a small town where self-serve frozen yogurt was unheard of, Olo set the bar high. Very high. As a freshman living in the dorms at UNM, Olo was a very short walk away, maybe 3 blocks. Their flavors are constantly changing, with the most popular being offered all the time (why hasn't red velvet been added to the permanent menu?) They even have a blue Breaking Bad inspired yogurt, and thin mint flavored around Girl Scout cookie time! They do a week of celebratory events every year around their birthday. They claim to give a random person free Olo for a year if they make a purchase during a certain day during their birthday week. It's true! My roommate actually won free Olo for a year! I appreciate that Olo has FRESH fruits and not that canned, yucky stuff! My favorite flavor is cake batter, which is luckily part of their permanent menu. They have great prices and a wide selection of toppings. Try the pop rocks, it's an experience! The restrooms are super clean as is the actual establishment. I love this place so much, yet I have to work hard to stay away. Otherwise I'd weigh a hundred thousand pounds and probably have diabetes. Even though they serve frozen yogurt verses traditional ice cream, making it "healthier," one can add as much toppings as one wants, and that's what I tend to do. Add everything, the diabetes included. Though they do have a wide variety of frozen yogurt flavors, each with varying levels of sugar and fat. Their Zia Blueberry Lite has the least amount of sugar with five grams. They have the typical non-fat and low-fat choices. Every bit counts when you're a glutton. Talking to one of the staff recently, she said there are people who come into their place who are on "the yogurt diet." I hadn't heard of it, but they replace a regular meal with a healthy frozen yogurt, which probably could be a heap of Olo's non-fat Chacoholic frozen yogurt topped with a ton of fresh fruit. I'm guessing these yogurt diet people aren't adding any of the sugary syrups or decadent toppings, well that is if they're serious about being healthier and/or losing weight. Olo tries to get all of their ingredients from as close to local as possible. For instance, all of their fresh fruit comes from local stores. Most of the frozen yogurt is made nearby. The furthest away, I believe, is from Colorado. The owner wanted to expound on their affinity for locally-made products in their frozen yogurt shop: "We don't make our yogurt in house mainly because yogurt requires a fermentation process and though I love the idea of yogurt 'microbrewery,' we just don't have the capacity to do so. In fact, we source our yogurt from both Colorado and Oregon. I would love to offer a New Mexican made product, however, to my knowledge, one does not exist. (I have contacted local dairies in the past, but none had plans to make frozen yogurt)." Olo has a wonderful selection of frozen yogurt flavors and toppings. I especially love their Chacoholic non-fat frozen yogurt, being a typical chocoholic. Wasn't able to actually try their product. Place is set up like your typical weighed fro-yo establishment. After we arrived, went to walk in and other patrons told us there was a line (this line was behind the curb on the street). No notices of business practices were posted. After the 2 other groups inside we went in. But, we're told to wait by the front door until the group ahead of us finished getting their fro-yo. While waiting, we did look at the pleasant looking regular and vegan pastries that were available. The group ahead of us had a child with them who was trying to reach for a topping handle, with the employee asking him not to touch. Eventually the kid did touch it and this became quite the clean up/sanitation issue (containers and handle changed out, product thrown away). Since they were no longer at the yogurt part we attempted to move forward, but were told we had to wait until the sanitized that area (but were unable to get to in the next few minutes we waited). After about a total of 20-30 mins of waiting, we gave up and left. Olo would really serve their patrons better if they posted their current practices somewhere outside to see and let people decide if they want to participate and/or wait. This would also help the employees to be able to do what they need to do without constant reminders, and without frequent irritations on themselves, to those visiting. read more

I finally was able to make it over to Olo and give this new froyo place a go. It's great that it is closer to me as a trek uptown for froyo is not usually ever going to happen. Olo is a good place for some pretty good frozen yogurt. The cost per ounce is still a little high @ $0.41/ounce, but it is cheaper than the other self serve froyo place uptown. The flavors were all tasty and the ability to sample all was nice (I hate asking for extra sample cups). The flavor names all have a local twist to them, which is cute, but when it comes to froyo, I care more about tastiness than cuteness. Thankfully, Olo does not disappoint. It was also nice to see a place that doesn't have a permanent installation of red velvet cake flavor. The toppings all looked fresh with the exception of the watermelon. It was gray and ugly. Shouldn't it be red and delicious looking? I'm not sure why it was even set out, as it was pretty unappetizing just to look at. A little quality control goes a long way. Other than the ugly watermelon topping, we had no issues. Service was friendly and attentive. We will be back for sure. read more
