I've been a member of many Seattle gyms: Ballard Health Club, LA Fitness, 24-Hour, some smaller training facilities - you name it. For me, this gym combines the best elements of those places without the worst. They have great classes (boot camp, cycle - with Tommy - and power vinyasa are my favorites). The locker rooms are nice and the lockers lock for free. I have never worked personally with the trainers but they all seem very nice and knowledgeable. There is something for everyone when it comes to workout rooms and equipment, from kettlebell to cardio machines to free weights and squat racks to two swimming pools. They provide complimentary towels in large and small sizes. Extra bonus: no creepy gym dudes go here - if you're looking for that vibe, LA Fitness has them in droves. The only reason for a 4-star review is that parking is terrible during peak times. It has taken me 10-15 minutes to find a spot on multiple occasions, and most of the parking lots are a pain to maneuver through - meaning there are cars lined up to get in, and some lots only have a few spots reserved by OAC. The cell service is also shotty in some rooms of the gym. If they fixed the parking, this would be Seattle's best gym in my opinion. read more

I can't give out many stars for them, because they pretty much make it impossible to find out how much it is for a membership. I got a 2 week free trial membership, and received a call from one of their membership people who said I could get 1/2 off enrollment and a free massage if I signed up TODAY! (thanks for giving me time to think about it!) So I went on a quest to find out how much I would pay each month for a MEMBERSHIP. It's a big MYSTERY for some reason, special MEMBERSHIP people are the only ones who can reveal this INSIDE information. No one at the front desk is allowed to speak on this topic, only the MEMBERSHIP people who are so busy cutting deals in the backroom that there is a 15 minute wait to talk with them (sorry, I have better things to do than wait around to find out a piece of simple information!) so I called and left a couple of messages, both of which went unanswered, so I called back a third time and finally someone called back. Only to leave a message saying to call them back, so 3 and a half days later it's still all a MYSTERY. I'm becoming so curious about why this has to be such a process to find out this info - do they give out different deals on membership to different people? Sure, this gym is a bit "fancier" than the Ballard Health Club, and they have a pool, and a wider variety of classes, but c'mon! Ballard Health club is $35/month and says so right there on their website. I will update this if I ever find out the scoop... 2/14/07 - Called them today, their special deal was $125 enrollment (half off the normal price) and $75 per month (1st month free). This club, (and specifically Mark, the general manager) runs like a used car lot rather than the high end athletic club they aspire to be. My husband purchased me a 2 month gift membership and prepaid. I needed to change the months of the gift because the club will not take children under a certain age and this was a post baby gift. When I came to redeem the gift, I was told I needed to sign in to be a member in order to enter the facility. This, apparently was a membership contract, unbeknownst to me. When, four months later we discovered we were being charged every month for a membership we assumed there had been some mistake. When I was told I had a membership with the club and would be charged if I used the facilities or not, I was shocked and dismayed. After escalating the issue up to the GM, Mr. Durall, he refused to refund the charges stating he would credit me the two months and I could attend the club. This was not a viable option because the childcare they provide is inadequate (my 5 month old twins were left in their car seats for the hour I was working out even after I requested they not be). The facilities are very nice and I found the classes to be good. Unfortunately, Olympic Athletic Club is attractive but a business that does not act with integrity and is seriously lacking in quality customer service. read more

I've been wanting to try this gym out since it's an awesome 24hr gym with a pool. Unfortunately, I was turned away because they "already had me in the system" from me simply calling and asking about rates. Not that it makes any sense what so ever. Maybe I'll try again, if i feel like wasting my time making a trip there again. 11pm at night at the end of a work day is not the time for this bs. Sorry. :( read more

First the good: The facility itself is pretty nice, especially the newer part. There are lots of classes. The new locker room is a huge improvement. Now the bad: It is very crowded. Parking is horrible unless you want to pay. The towels in the locker room are awful so bring your own. The hot tub in the woman's locker room will clearly never work. You have to arrive very early for classes to get a space. The system for getting a spot in spinning is ridiculous. Extra charges for the good stuff is annoying and adds up. I decided to quit the gym and put the money into personal training which has been much better for me. Watch out because they make it very hard to cancel your membership. Must come in person five days before the end of the month. Miss that and pay for another month. read more

I did a trial membership during the heat wave this past sunmer. Thought I would escape the heat in a nice air conditioned gym. Boy was I wrong. No A/C and the fans were a joke. The place stank because it was so hot. The equipment was old. Also the first time I went there I used the upstairs (nicer) locker room. After my gym work out I wanted to use the pool but found out the pool was attached to the downstairs locker room. So I had to move all my stuff to the other locker room since I didn't want to walk through the entire gym in my bathing suit. After the pool I wanted to go in the sauna but the sauna is attached to the upstairs locker room. I just gave up. read more

I've been a member here for over a year, and this is where I'll stay. The price is totally worth it. I have three kids, so good gym childcare was a big deal to me when I signed up. I like the girls who work at Kids Korner here, and my kids are comfortable going. The one downside is, you have to call to reserve your babysitting slot beforehand, and they're not always available. With my membership I get ten hours of free care per month, and then it's $3 per hour afterward. Great price, IMO. Because of this, I'll take my kids during the day sometimes, but I usually prefer to go at night when they're in bed. The gym atmosphere is beautiful, and I rarely have to wait for a piece of equipment. I LIVE for the eucalyptus steam room and sauna. They get me all ready for sleep when I work out before bedtime. I'm not a big fan of the spin class I tried here, but I do like the yoga and my friend has a great time at Zumba. They have a cool-looking kick boxing class (with actual bags) that I want to try, and my husband really enjoyed pick up basketball games in their gym. They also have Barre and Belly Dancing classes, for an extra fee. One downside is it's hard to find parking. They do have about six lots in that area to choose from, but at peak hours, I end up driving around a lot before I find a space. I also don't like parking a block away and crossing that busy intersection on Leary with my kids. I'm a huge fan of the pools. That the was the main reason I joined this gym. They have a great lap pool for adults, and a separate smaller pool for kids, swim lesson, aquarobics, and shorter lap swimming. There are also three hot tubs. Aside from the pool, the other reason I love this gym is that it feels fancy. I know that's a weird thing to say about a gym where you go to sweat, but I really enjoy the brick walls, the chandeliers, and the charming windows. It feels like a maze walking around this place because they converted an old building, but I love that they've been able to work so many different rooms and exercise options into an odd space in a fun neighborhood. I recommend this place to all my friends, especially moms who need a little place to feel luxurious. I only gave four stars because there is room to improve, but it's the best option out there for me. read more

I love this gym. And I have been to a few others over the years. First of all it accommodates a wide variety of people of all ages and abilities. The trainers are pro and good for young bodies and seniors. Terry is particularly amazing with her knowledge and encouragement thru tough times and aging issues. Cannot praise her enough. Water Aerobics are great. Many different classes and teachers. Gets everything moving and is aerobic too. Sixteen classes as I look at it. Each week. Pool is heated. Towels available. Dressing room small but adequate. A big pool that is cool and longer works for serious swimmers. Classes are varied and good. Facility is cobbled together sometimes and refitted beautifully in other areas. Overall, a clean and well maintained place with a good attitude. read more

It's a nice facility but management employs standard gym tactics designed to inconvenience customers trying to make cancellation and put memberships on hold. To even get on "on hold"--which costs $10 per member, per month--you need to provide them with 10 days notice and take time out of your day to physically come in and give your signature. Amazing. You can make and cancel payments to the Seattle Municipal Court online, but apparently that's not air-tight enough for a gym membership. It's a shame because it's a really nice facility and the trainers are pretty friendly, but it's these kinds of tactics that make me question if I want to cancel my membership instead of putting it on hold. read more

This is a very weird gym. It has an odd layout with rooms on different floors and no real rhyme or reason in regards to where equipment is placed. This is frustrating because you end up having to hop between floors to work certain parts of your body. Also, the room where you'd normally do abs in other gyms is located off the woman's locker room. This is strange to me as my boyfriend and I like to do ab work together. There really isn't any other area in the gym to roll out a mat. One room in particular is very odd at this club: it's got free weights and machines but it's old and dingy and doesn't match the rest of the club. Overall a very strange experience. But I was only utilizing this gym during a short visit to Seattle while staying at Ballard Inn across the street. It's nice of them to offer complimentary passes, and for a few days the gym was definitely able to meet my needs and beyond. Positive highlights: Full swimming pool with lap lanes, a hot tub in the locker room, friendly enough staff for my short stay. But if I were living in this area, I'd go to the LA fitness down the road... read more

I went gym shopping again and looked at OAC. This was very nearly the gym I picked. First off, this is a beautiful gym. If they offered open space for events, I'd have my wedding here. Every part of the gym has a really cool art deco feel that I LOVE. I like the women's locker room. It's newly redone with nice lockers, big showers, and a jacuzzi tup IN THE LOCKER ROOM. They have a sauna and a steam room. In addition to the coolest locker room I've every seen, they have room that is just for women to work out in. I like the consideration they took for females. The pool on this floor (which is new) has wide lanes for swimming. It's an adult only pool for laps all the time. It had windows that let in the natural light and the pool is heated. The group fitness classrooms were really nice. They were basketball courts when not in use. I suppose I wouldn't like having the courts filled with yoga people if I liked basketball (but it's not really a feature for me). They have 2 or 3 racket ball courts and they supply the equipment. I've never played racket ball but I hear it's a lot of fun. The kind of fun where you sweat your butt off (literally). They had two large cardio areas that we saw and are finishing up another cardio area. That seemed like a lot of machines (as much if not more than I saw at 24 hr fitness or LA Fitness). There seemed to be plenty of weight machines and they all looked nice. There were also quite a few free weights available. If you're a crazy sturdy person they have balancing balls to use as well (which is always wicked-hard but is a bit bad ass). There is ANOTHER pool that is more of a multipurpose pool. It does lap swimming, open swim, and aqua fitness. Kids are allowed in this pool (and the locker room attached to it). There were a lot of classes to do here. Some of them require an additional fee. They were mostly super advanced classes which I'm guessing required a fitness ninja specialist to teach. 95% of the classes come with the membership. They offer 2 personal training sessions with the membership and will do a follow-up every few months to check on your workout if you want. That's about the perfect level of involvement for me as I'm not training to go to the Olympics anytime soon. Potential downers here are: -it's 24 hrs during the week but closes on weekend evenings. Not an issue for me as I don't think I'll ever get the 1 am gym itch on a Saturday night (I get a different kind of Saturday Night Fever). -It's a lot of gym to take in and comes at a slight premium over other gyms. I wasn't ready to drive a Cadillac gym (yet). I highly recommend checking this place out. They're more than willing to do a 3 day pass for people who want to kick the tires before committing. read more

I think the way they do business at OAC is kind of shady. I'm not surprised that they won't just tell people their membership fees up front. In fact, shouldn't there be some sort of membership brochure in the lobby? I mean, don't you want to be up front with your members and potential members? Anyway. You do have to sit in that creepy room with a muscley moron and he will tell you all the great things about OAC and while they are great, I can just as well run on a treadmill at another facility for half the price it takes to run on one there. I'm someone who will most likely not take advantage of the amenities that OAC offers. I give this club four stars because it is a high-class, first rate place to do your working out. It is located in a great part of Ballard, in this old, rickety brick building that has been completely converted on the inside to be three stories of gym goodness. A pool, multiple racket ball courts, a basketball court, a few different weight rooms with new equipment, lots of cardio machines (seriously though.... get rid of the mirrors! watching yourself sweat is so 1995). And they even have daycare. I haven't taken advantage of the classes but I do know they offer a wide variety from aerobics to yoga to even dance! Why am I not a member anymore? Because my parents stopped paying for it. Why pay the family rate when only one person of the family actually goes? Needless to say I find that all I need is some pavement or gravel and a pair of running shoes and I'm good to go. read more

So I've been going to Olympic now for over 6 months and I'd say I'm pretty happy with the place, but it's got it's downsides. PROS: It's open 24 hours There is childcare available Huge diversity in clientel - as in it's not a meat market A large number of ellipticals and treadmills I really like aquafit The pool is salt water More than 1 locker room to use - the one upstairs has a hot tub and steam room There is a prenatal yoga class - but only available at Weds at 1030 AM Personal TVs on the cardio equipment lots of parking options in the neighboring blocks They are planning to expand CONS: The place can smell pretty musty They are stingy with towels (only 1 full size per person which is lame) The locker rooms are kinda small In the evening the cardio equipment fills up There is not a great place to stretch All in all I think Olympic is really convenient to get to, and I appreciate that it's open all hours and not a meat market. I think as long as we stay in the neighborhood we'll continue to use this as our gym. read more

I've been a member here for over two years. In that time no improvements or renovations have been made. The facilities are run down to say the least. The bathrooms and men's locker room areas are disgusting. Forget about working out here during the summer months as there is no A/C. Lately, OAC has been offering promotions on Groupon so there is a flood of temporary members making wait time for machines even longer. Overall, the staff is extremely friendly but OAC is definitely not worth the money for such a run down facility with old equipment. read more

So I have been a member of this gym for a couple months and so far I enjoy everything that it has to offer. Plenty of weights, plenty of cardio options, and plenty of classes to choose from. It's not the nicest gym that I have ever been to, but it's close to home and I'll take proximity over quality any day of the week! My only complaint is the men's locker room. It stinks of something fierce! After a hard workout, I usually walk into the locker room panting and inhaling the nastiest air the gym has to offer! There was one time that I almost puked due to the quality of air in the locker room. Get some air freshener up in there! read more

The OAC is the gym for me. I've been a member here for over a year now and I am committed to staying here. It's located in the heart of my favorite Seattle neighborhood, Ballard, which is a bonus for me. It's not as convenient to get to the OAC from when I live now, but when I used to live in Ballard/Fremont it just made sense. "Just when I thought I was out...they pull me back in." My girlfriend and I tried to make the transition to the LA Fitness that is 3 minutes from our house, but we couldn't do it. The proximity was not enough to get us to switch. The prices were comparable because our joint membership account paid for a full year at a time (with three free months) ended up being even cheaper than the "Best Buy of gyms." I love the OAC because I feel comfortable there. When I walk in it feels more like I'm entering a hotel than a gym. I enjoy the layout of the gym with its separated workout rooms and areas instead of one giant exercise floor (like at LA Fitness). They offer all the equipment I could ever want and some cool classes too (mostly catered to women, but still). They have a pool, hot tub, basketball court, racquet ball courts, yoga room, circuit training room, free weight room, and on and on and on. The parking has always been an obstacle, but they are in the process of improving that with the new construction of the giant parking garage attached to the gym. Now if I could just get my lazy ass to the gym more!! read more

I love this place! It fits all personality types. If you want to power lift and grunt loudly while doing so, there's a room for that. If you prefer circuit training or classes, they have all you could want. The locker rooms are nice and have saunas and steam baths, they have a ton of free classes including yoga, pilates, tai chi, and others, and the staff are very kind. In the sales process, they treat you like a human being and are not overly aggressive. They're basically always open, have parking, and don't require you to bring anything (towels, yoga mats, etc. are all provided). It's also a charming old building. If you want to make a day of it, they have a spa/salon and proximity to all kinds of fun in Ballard. I highly recommend OAC!! read more

New members as of June 2014, I have to say I am impressed with the facilities and service of the OAC. I've been a member at Bally's, 24, and eons ago, Harbour Square in Edmonds. OAC combines plush remodeled facilities with friendly customer service, classes, and an unassuming levels of a variety of workout options. The price is more than 24 hr, but competitive with nearby LA fitness. Sign up with a partner and pay for a whole year for the best value. My fiancé and I wanted a facility with pools, racket ball courts, showers, and of course, proximity to our home so we don't have that as an excuse not to go to the gym. The yoga and spin classes I've tried so far have been great! Want to try barre next, but that is the one class that costs a couple extra bucks. Other reviews complained about parking availability. While I generally don't come in the after work rush hour, I've come at all other hours of the day. No problems ever finding parking in one of the many lots in the area. Our one complaint so far is that it has giant letters and is advertised as a 24 hour gym, with small print and hours posted on the door that it does not apply to Saturday and Sunday evenings. Saturday and Sunday close at 8, which is only disappointing when you forget and realize it at 7:45 on Sunday evening. read more

This place would EASILY be a 5-star club, but: - Weekend hours are not very accommodating (8pm is just too early) - The men's locker room closes at 11:30 , so they might as well be closed if you can't get in there to change or use the sauna/steam room. - If you're really into free weights, this isn't the place for you. Limited selection in even more limited place. That said, this club is gorgeous, the customer service is incredible, and there are so many things to do. The new pool is beautiful (crowded during peak hours, of course). Move the men's locker room cleaning to after 1am, and it makes five stars. Boom. read more

The girlfriend and I joined Olympic Athletic Club in hopes of becoming a more healthy version of our already fabulous selves. Well, something like that, at least. Anyway, this place is awesome. We usually hit up the machines, gettin' our cardio on, working up a nice sweat. We've taken advantage of the open gym to shoot some hoops and swam laps in their salt water pool, but there are so many things they offer for the fitness guru in you. They have basketball and racquetball courts, an enormous weight room (including a room strictly for circuit training), flat screen TVs every which way you look, plus they offer tons of classes including yoga, spinning, aerobics, step, and aqua-robics. I, personally, enjoy relaxing my muscles after a tough workout in the hot tub and/or sauna, then showering off and feeling just right to take on the rest of my day with a more invigorating outlook. With free parking in five separate lots surrounding this vintage building in the heart of old town Ballard, all your state of the art fitness needs will be met at Olympic Athletic Club. I do like this gym. It is a nice family gym where you will run into babies to 90 year olds running on the treadmill. The classes are good but busy. They just got new updated equipment with TV's built into them. The pool is nice and there are three full weight rooms! The bathrooms have hot tubs so you don't need your swimsuit *HINT HINT*. There are a few places to park around the gym and they are free. As far as the sucky parts.... it can take a while for equipment to get fixed. The cardio equipment is busy but there is always something opened... just might not be what you want. read more

Have been a member for 2 and a half years now. Enjoy all the different weight rooms and versatile crowd. I go during the week peak hours and parking is never difficult to find, you just have to know where to find them. I just wish they were more sticklers about the Sunday market crowd parking at the OAC parking lot across the street. However there is parking in the other lots. read more

Just testing this gym out for a month via their groupon and I'm LOVING IT! I used to work out at 24 hr all around puget sound and I never felt GOOD while I was there. At OAC, I feel happy just walking in the door! Personal TV's on machines, pool, towel service, nice locker rooms, steam room, and unlimited classes!!?? There is a positive vibe all over the place. I haven't tried any classes yet so may need to update reviews... but so far, so good! Please stay a place with regular folks of all ages! read more

Good place to work-out BUT sometimes shower rooms are dirty (chunk of hairs and...) depends on the time and days. I notice it gets worse Saturdays and Sundays in the evening. I'm not sure it's because of short stuffs or just lack of organizing for cleaning. Last Sunday was the worst...pile up towels and dirty shower rooms..I hope they rearrange to clean more often read more

Beautiful building, friendly staff, even if it is busy you can still get a good workout in. Most gyms frequently try to push sales of personal training etc... onto you, THIS GYM DOES NOT DO THAT AND IT IS SO NICE! Tons of FREE class options that are included with your membership. I went in to cancel my membership a week and a half before my next monthly payment and apparently hidden somewhere in the contract is that you have to cancel by the 25th of the previous month. Beware. I'm moving and can't even use this place for the month that I'll be paying for. Not great customer service from the person that I spoke with either. Update: I had also called and was told I had to come in in person and was not told (over the phone) that it needed to be done by the 25th of the previous month. The "we allow people to cancel in our club" is misleading - it's incredibly inconvenient to not be able to do over the phone. read more

The gym is beautiful, but could be cleaner. The range of classes and opportunities for fitness is great. I've been a member for about 10 years now and they've made improvements. There is no lack of membership, that's for sure. The parking is a mixed bag - some days it's impossible and other times you can find a spot. I just received a letter that they are raising my Senior rate. The senior rate. In a town with an average techie salary of $130,000, they're raising my senior rate. If you inquire about it they'll just tell you how fortunate you are to get the rate they offer. Okay. But you could at least sweep up the floor in Studio B once in a while. read more

I've been a member here about two years and I love it. Let me compare it to other experiences: First I tried Bally's. I printed off a one week trial from their website and went on it. When I handed it to the person at the desk, they said they recognized me and I'd already used a trial membership and I was abusing it.... I had never been in before. They gave me such a hard time I just left. It was ridiculous. Next I tried LA Fitness. I think that was a two week trial. I printed it off their website and went in. When you go in, they make you sit down and talk to someone about membership options. They pressure you to sign up immediately. I refused to sign up before trying it out, so they took my driver's license while I went to workout so that I would have to talk to someone again before leaving. I couldn't get on any machines because they were so packed. I went to a yoga class that was so packed you don't have any space around your yoga mat. And then when I tried to leave and get my driver's license back, they wouldn't give my two week trial coupon back because I wouldn't sign up the first day. So I went to OAC, who offer a one week trial and really ask that you use it. As the woman said, if you don't like us, you'll tell people and hurt out reputation, so we really want you to know you like it here before you sign up. No pressure. No driver's license. And I love it. I have never had to wait for any machine (because they don't buy out memberships from other gyms that go out of business, like LA Fitness does, leaving the gym over-crowded). I LOVE the group fitness classes. They are an amazing workout and the teachers are great. Tons of amenities - sauna, pool, lockers, showers, tanning beds, parking decal, towels, etc. My only complaint would be the price. I pay about $55 month. Still, it's worth it over the other two gyms I mentioned. read more

Love this gym. We've been members for 3.5 years now. It's been updated in the last year, and looks great. I like that it's 24 hours, has real people working out (not barbies or the intense workout queens/kings) and becoming more healthy, and has a steam room. We have the family deal and take the kids swimming a ton. Pool is great, cardio machines work well. Weights are awesome. TVs on the machines is a new feature, and is the only time I watch television. Not sure if that's a good thing, but I figure the working out portion will even out the TV karma (couch potato habits be gone!). We will continue at this gym for the foreseeable future. read more

Standard gym with extra amenities disguised as fancy-pants athletic club. The big draw for me is the child care available, and women's locker room. This place ensures that as a mom of a young child, I can at least get a shower, if not a workout. I'm writing this review before they open up after renovations. Let's put it simply - it's kind of a mess right now. The equipment is scattered and hidden between different rooms and multiple levels. It's easy to forget half the equipment exists because it's all tucked away somewhere! There's a lot to appreciate, though. They have a basketball court, where they host a bunch of classes available free with membership, including Zumba, yoga and pilates. They have pay class series, which if you're looking for a boot camp, they have that. They also, reportedly, have awesome new spin bikes, but are unfortunately locked up when class is not in session. They have a pool, and soon will have two. I have a trainer that I see regularly there, and she's really good at motivating me, and keeping me injury-free. This is a family friendly gym: you will see kids and young teens around the gym, along with your standard (young and old) Ballard resident. The cost of the gym is not much more than other gyms in the area, especially when factoring in the convenience of childcare, as well as the 24/5 open. I will re-review once they get the new wing open. I expect prices to go up once that happens, if they haven't already. read more

I absolutely love this gym. I really don't understand why it doesn't have a 5 star rating! I utilize all of the classes the gym offers, as well as the lap pool, family pool, trainers, child care, and standard equipment. My favorite attribute of this gym is the vibe. You don't get that sterile, boring, 'LA Fitness' feel here. The layout is a little funny, but I think it gives the gym character. The studios where the classes are held have brick walls with windows that open right out onto Ballard Ave. Love this place! read more

There have been recent upgrades: a few new cardio machines, extra TVs in some of the areas for more channels to watch, new paint job (as well as bringing out some of the exposed brick in some areas). I've been a member at the Seattle Allstar Fitness - all over the city as well as 24 hour fitness and Gold's Gym and frequented the Bellevue Athletic Club. I've got to say that this has been actually the best gym experience I've ever had. Not as pishy posh as BAC but pretty darn close. When signing up for a membership, I had no problem. I called, they sent me an email and it was seriously no pressure. I am super pick about where I work out and I need a place that has parking, is safe, has convenient hours, good eleptical machines, and definately not a fishbowl meat market club. After going on the tour of this enormous gym I knew this was it for me. The front desk girls were really nice - except for one inappropriate one who was talking to a friend and cussed. Ever since then though, they've all been really nice. The person who gave me my tour was not pressuring me in any way unlike LA Fitness that practically bullys you into memberships. The facility is clean and well kept up. It is in a historic building in Ballard. Lots of parking - at first I was worried but I go in the afternoons on weekends and evenings and have no problem finding parking in their many hidden lots. Machines - always work, clean. Was told they would be attaching televisions to each machine in the next few months. I love how there are different rooms - the place is huge - so you can tuck yourself into an area. There are cameras ( I asked since they are open 24 hours) and that made me feel loads better. There is only 1 entrance to the rest of the facility so it's ultra safe. They even have this room with weights and cardio in a room to make it easier to move from machine to machine. I never have to wait for a machine EVER! The women's only room is great - there is a sauna that pumps eucalyptus - good bye winter colds. There is also a hot tub inside - yahoo. The place has a daycare - talk about ultra convenient and there is a pool with family changing room. I really really really love this place and I'm just super impressed. I used to be one who hated going to the gym and now I'm actually going every day. Great Yoga Classes and Quality Clientele. The prices are definately not cheap but I think that it weeds out the riff raff. It's mostly 30 year olds and above with families. This is not a kids playground though. You can definately work out in peace. I am paying about 200.00 dollars more per year than at Allstar Fitness and that was with a discount (Some companies have discounts - ask when you join). I haven't belonged to this gym in 7 months since I moved far from Ballard; however, I was a member for a year, so I figured I'd share some thoughts. Overall, this is a great gym. The hours are awesome (24/7, except weekends), the facilities are kept very clean, and the staff is very nice. If I wrote this review when I was a member, it'd probably be a star less because of the weight room, but I just walked by the other day and saw the incredible weight room renovation. My only "complaint" with this gym was the weight room was not that great, but now it looks amazing. There is so much equipment at this place that no matter what you're looking for, they'll have it. Even during peak hours, I never found it difficult to work out here. I can't speak to the current rates, but when I was a member, it was about $40-$50/month per person for a couple, which was a great deal for what you get. I get people with lifetime rates getting those increased being unhappy, I would be too. But for those who are looking for a new gym in Ballard, you'll have a hard time finding a better one than this one (and yes, I've been members of the other ones). read more

It may be a little on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. You get a more private workout (unlike most gyms it's not one giant room with all the machines, everything is split up over three floors into smaller rooms). Towel service is included. Their kids' program/child care is amazing. My son takes the kids' karate class with Cliff, and that's great too. The woman's locker room has relatively private showers and changing rooms. I've heard the men's room is a bit more open, though. My only complaint is the front desk staff, who can get caught up in their own conversations, but are still generally friendly and helpful. read more

My husband and I have been members for a few months now and we very much enjoy it. The classes are good, a little over full at times but we almost always find a spot or plan to go a bit early so we know we will get one. You feel like a normal human with other normal humans around. What I mean is regular people who want to be healthy inside and out surround you, people of all ages, weights and skill levels. Not a bunch of beefcake bro-dudes grunting and looking way to overly tanned. I have to admit the pool is really bad, they claim it's salt water but the smell is out of control, its sticks to you, and even after showering at the club I go home and have to shower again. That being said they will be putting in a new Olympic sized pool in the next year so I plan to try that one when it happens. The staff can be hit or miss, some of them are really snotty and some are great, you don't really interact with them much so whatever. Parking can be hard. But I figure I'm going to the gym, I can walk the two blocks to go work out duh. We are looking forward to all the new remodel stuff to be over so the club is not so cut up but in the mean time, we still love to go. read more

This is such an incredible gym. Open 24 hrs Monday through Friday works great for me since I work nights. The staff is always warm, respectful and welcoming. Always ready to help with anything they can. Not to mention I feel very safe here. It's not your average meat market of a workout environment. Great selection of classes and training options too. I love their pool, plenty of space to do take a swim even if you're not an avid swimmer. Their month to month payment plan option is perfect. read more

Having been a member of OAC for 18 months now, I think it's high time I let others know that this gym is truly great. I conducted extensive research on gyms in the Ballard/Fremont/Queen Anne/Belltown areas of Seattle before joining OAC and my research led me to what I believe is the best gym around. OAC has something for everyone from exercise newbies to gym junkies. There is an abundance of fun and challenging classes, cardio machines, and sports (basketball, volleyball, racquetball, and swimming to name a few). The staff and trainers are all very friendly, very helpful, and very knowledgeable. The locker rooms are always clean and well-stocked, and the saunas and whirlpool are fantastic amenities. OAC is expanding as I write this review, and I expect that it will only improve as they add significantly more space for new machines and classes in the coming year. read more

Just joined this club and am generally happy overall, with one reservation. The positives are a nice staff, attractive entry and common areas, and the top floor with a timbered equipment room with views over to the channel. Also nice locker room (men's). Not so great: the lack of a clean, unique stretching area. The one they have, located on a mid-platform level in the back of the building (among aerobic machines, looking over to the racquetball courts) is a joke. Small, dirty, with loose equipment lying around, and hemmed in by machines, it's not conducive to one of the most important things you need to do at some point in a workout session, which is stretch. This whole area in general is kind of dowdy and not the cleanest. It's kind of weird, since the rest of the club is much nicer and better maintained. So for me, that part of the club doesn't appeal, but the rest of it is really nice, and the staff is very friendly and professional, so there you go ... read more
