    Tuna temaki

We ordered a la carte. Food was great and the sashimi were fresh. However, nothing really stood out and felt it was on the pricier end. The restaurant itself is small so it had a nice cozy vibe. Service was great.

Food 4/5 Service 3/5 Vibe 5/5 I had their taste menu for 95$. Portions are relatively smaller but flavor wasnt bad at all. I would say if you already know what dish you wanna try, go for à la carte, but if you're indecisive, go for the tasting menu. For the sake tasting, i would say 2 people sharing 1 is more than enough. I like that we can try 4 different sakes, but i didnt really loveeeee the selection. I think I would just choose the bootle i want to try next time i go. My fav was the tuna hand roll and the purple rice risotto. Great place for a date night or a celebration!

One of my favourite restaurants in toronto! Small, intimate setting with delicious asian flavours. Servers are great and attentive. I've been here multiple times already, but what really made this review a 5 star was their tasting menu that I had. At $90 per person for the tasting menu you get a large variety of food that not only looks great but tastes amazing as well. For our tasting menu we got: Raw Oysters 5/5 - Fresh and topped with some caviar. Great starter Tuna Temaki 5/5 - A handroll with fresh tuna on top. Crispy seaweed wrapped in a bed of warm rice. So good that we had to add a second handroll to our meal. Added an extra uni temaki for $20 1000/5 - A must get! It was the biggest highlight of our meal. Does not come with the tasting menu but the uni temaki uses fresh uni that is sweet, creamy and umami. (the uni used for the temaki is different from the uni toast) Uni Toast 4/5 - Comes with a large piece of uni on some black toast. The texture differences from the crispy bread to the creamy uni is what makes this dish so memorable. Giving it a 4/5 because the uni used here was not as high quality as the uni temaki we had prior to this. But still a great dish! 2 Types Sashimi 5/5 - Fresh and clean tasting. Comes with a vinaigrette that elevates the raw fish. Lobster Bucatini 5/5 - Oh my - delicious! The creamy sauce of this lobster bucatini was to die for. Pasta was cooked to the perfect doneness of al dente and it came with lots of pieces of lobster. The sauce is what puts this dish over the top - so well balanced, creamy, salty and packed with seafood flavour. Wagyu Steak 5/5 - Buttery, fatty, cooked to perfection wagyu steak with a delicious sauce. The charred vegetables on the side were also such a great addition to this dish. Dessert 5/5 - Great end to our meal with something sweet. Overall, I can't hype this place up enough. Every single dish was made with precision, taste was amazing and I still think about this meal all the time. Make sure to make a reservation as the place is small and only have few seating.

Stumbled upon this place on a Tuesday since they were promoting "Temaki Tuesday" where it's half off. The owner served us and told us it's a new promotion they are trying out. We ordered a few temaki rolls: salmon, scallop and tuna. All of them were very good. The sashimi plate was also good and included some fatty tuna. All of the fish was fresh and flavorful here. I'd recommend coming here. The outdoor space is nice and they also have a proper sushi bar inside.

I've always wanted to try this place since I lived near it when it first opened. We got the tasting menu and order the scallop temaki a la carte. It's a small space but cozy. It is super tight walkways and the bathroom is downstairs FYI in case you have accessibility needs. They have bag hooks under the counter as well as coat hooks in the back of the restaurant. Service was nice and very quick. The fish was fresh. My favourites were the scallop temaki and uni toast. I loved the black cod dish - crispy skin and super tender meat. The croquettes were a pleasant surprise! The cheese wasn't overpowering at all and overall super tasty.

We were running a bit late for our 8:15 reservation on a Friday evening, but we actually didn't end up getting seated until half an hour later. They also had to move us to another table to accommodate a party of four, but they did warn us ahead of time, and they comped our first round of drinks, which was nice of them. We were hoping to do the tasting menu because we really wanted the uni toast (which they ran out of) but they said most of the tasting menu items were gone, and we had to order a la carte. So if you're looking to do the tasting menu as well, make sure you get an earlier reservation. We ended up ordering a few items: -Caviar oyster - the oyster was fine. I liked the hot sauce in the little bottle that it was served with -Blue fin tuna hand roll - this was really good. I liked the fried shallots it was topped with. It was a nice change from the typical green onion -Salmon hand roll - this was great as well. I recently started liking ikura, so that was a nice touch -Flat iron wagyu - this was probably the worst dish of the night. It came smothered in some sauce, reminiscent of the teriyaki kitchen entrees you'd get at a sushi takeout restaurant. It masked the taste of the beef, which makes me wonder about the quality and if it was even wagyu at all Maybe my experience would have been difference had I gotten to try the tasting menu. But it's hard to judge when menu items are limited. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back though.

This place is cozy yall. It's pretty small inside but absolutely worth a visit! Seafood was very fresh. Service was amazing! Would absolutely return for their drinks!

Truffle inside was unique and delicious

Food: had the $85/person prix fixe dinner along with the additional futomaki. Everything was delicious. The scallop sashimi, uni toast, and futomaki were my favourites. The lemon meringue tart was delicious but it was a bummer that when two people do the prix fixe they must share just one tarte. In general delicious and interesting combinations for a special occasion but portions are on the small end and I was still hungry after. Service: friendly and attentive. The chefs were cooking in the front and everyone was lovely. I'm glad I went! It was a great experience.

this is a small japanese fusion-ish spot that focuses on the quality/freshness of their ingredients. i've been here previously for the tasting menu, and this time for the a la carte. I personally enjoyed ordering a la carte more since I prefer the futomaki (not part of tasting menu) and trying the seasonal offerings such as the stuffed zucchini flowers. my personal favourite was the tuna futomaki since it had tender and fresh fatty & lean tuna with no frills. every main dish was truly innovative and well thought out from the lobster pesto pasta to the stuffed zucchini flowers. overall, amazing quality for price and definitely classifiable as a hidden gem!

Came to Omai for girl's night and tried the tasting menu for $85 per person. Unfortunately the food was a bit disappointing. The flavors for some of the dishes didn't work and just wasn't balanced. Like the mango sauce on the scallop sashimi just didn't work well, the sauce overpowered the scallops and didn't allow the protein to shine, since scallops is mild tasting going with such a strong sauce just didn't do it justice. The black cod and wagyu were okay, it was a bit of a let down, it's not as tender and soft as I anticipated. Items from their menu that I did enjoy though, the oysters, the uni on toast, king salmon sashimi, and bluefin tuna temaki were good. The service was okay, our waitress was nice but she did forget to bring us a few items here and there. We also weren't given plates or cutlery when they started serving the first course for our tasting menu, we had to request it. The ambiance was modern and cozy, it's a smaller restaurant but the space is beautifully decorated. I had came to Omai before and did enjoy their food, that's why I decided to come back and try the tasting menu. Unfortunately I don't think their tasting menu is worth it. If I were to go back I'd probably stick to a la carte. Since for the price of their tasting menu, there are better options out there.

The simplicity of the temaki allows the quality of the tuna to shine through, With a bit more seasoning, it would be perfect. 見到佢哋嘅紫菜係一路烘住所以好脆,一啖咬哂Tuna同埋面頭啲脆脆好好味,但味道略為淡咗啲 *Uni with Forno Cultura's squid ink toast (THE OF THE TASTING MENU) Seriously words cannot describe how divine this is. Uni on squid ink toast $18 each

I've been here twice and twice was nice! First time I came was for a bachelor party dinner. We did the omakase and the service was great. The food was tasty and beautiful and the pace was perfect. We had a few bottles of sake as you would and the suggestions were well received. Second time I came was with my gf. We ordered a la carte and ordered off menu, the uni on squid ink toast which was quite pricey but good! Again the service was great and the food was satiating. A great little date night spot for sure!

Very high quality and the fish is extremely fresh! Everything we ordered was really good and the service was very attentive. What we ordered: Croquette - these came steaming hot and were perfectly crispy on the outside and had a mushroom and cheese filling inside that was delicious. It came in 3 pieces and I would definitely order again Chirashi don - every piece of fish was extremely fresh and definitely worth ordering! The portion is not that big so definitely recommend ordering sides/appetizers as well Omai roll - this roll was so good we actually ended up ordering a second to share Bluefin tuna temaki - the tuna was incredible! And they give a decent amount that makes it worth ordering Can't wait to come back!

Wagyu beef, a definite must try!

Our table of 4 was seated and serviced by 1 main staff member, Lydia, who talked us through the whole menu and ordering system, recommended some great starts and then kept us frequently updated all throughout dinner. She checked up on us along with her assistants who were also bringing items and servicing the table. The food quality was excellent with juicy and flavorful cuts of beef along with the shrimp, pork, veggies, side dishes/ponchon, and rice--it kept coming consistently. Grill changes were frequent as well. The atmosphere is lively and there are a lot of servers so you aren't trying get someone's attention all the time. But it doesn't feel too cramped at the same time. As it is AYCE, everyone in our group left full of course and enjoyed each course. I liked the almond tofu at the end! ----TL;DR---- Pros: great selection of meats, quality was top notch, huge portions of course as it is AYCE, service was prompt and all staff were really friendly. Cons: no reservations so need to be on a waitlist. The no credit card system is a bit of an inconvenience. Bottom Line: we loved it--definitely would go back again and enjoy more of their selections! You have to try them if you like meat and AYCE!

It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). We got a bunch of dishes to share and overall liked most things but some things (like the oyster) unfortunately didn't hit as well. Wagyu - thin slices but very tender and very flavorful with the cheese - surprised by how well the flavor combo worked out. Tofu - easily one of my fave agedashi tofu. Huge tofu slices with very chewy outer texture, a bit gelatinous . Really went well with the sauce and toppings Carbonara - nice chewy texture to the udon, not too soft and not too firm. The sauce was nice and creamy. Not as truffley as I thought it would be, wish it was a little more but it was still pretty good Oyster - least favorite of all the dishes we got today. It was a bit sour and the cheese felt like it didn't really help the flavor profile of the oysters. It was super oily from the cheese, felt like it was drowning in cheese/oil flavor Cod - it looks good but something is lacking, maybe in taste? Feel like maybe the marinade did not penetrate enough. The texture is still nice and soft , with a crisp skin . Also was a bit too oily for our liking, compared to other miso cod we have had. It was also a relatively smaller piece of cod. Overall, the appetizers were really good! The oyster and cod were a bit disappointing. Would come back for the carbonara and the other appetizers mentioned though!
