They take care of all their birds so well! It's rare to find stores these days that care so much about their animals and most were only a few months old. Every single bird in there was sociable and adjusted well to being handled, the prices are steeper than other pet stores but you honestly get what you pay for, unlimited grooming and health guarantee as well is hard to come by as birds are sensitive. Trevor helped me and my friend out and was super knowledgable, friendly and kind. The star of the store was their 60 year old umbrella cockatoo Gretchen- this is how you know they take care of their birds so well. The store always has an entire wall full of toys, a seed buffet to customize for your birds preference and boarding for birds if you ever needed to go out of town. This will be my new store for any bird needs and I definitely recommend! read more

ALMOST KILLED MY BIRD! GROOMING GONE WRONG! Try Magnolia Bird Farm- locations in Anaheim and Riverside....!!!!!!!!!! Between my friend and I, we have adopted 5 birds. We have give to Omar's for all our bird's needs-all this amounting to thousands of dollars! But more than the money invested is the trust we have put on on Omar's staff. We trust that their toys are the best; that their food is the most nutritional; that they provide the best care. That all changed when one of my bird's blood-feathers was accidentally clipped by a member of the staff. Now, I accept the that it was an accident- what I refuse to accept is the owner's (OMAR) response--lack thereof! I reached out to him a couple of days ago and yet to hear from him.... So for those who do not know, a broken feather is a frightening and painful experience- If a bird blood-feather bleeds out enough, it can be fatal! The veterinarian told me that a blood feather was clipped: asked if I had just groomed my bird. I replied that I had taken her to Omar's for grooming two weeks prior. Vet said that, luckily, damage was at tip of feather that the bird was bleeding out slowly. There was a considerable amount of dry blood under her wing. (FYI-never have I groomed or taken my bird to get groomed anywhere but Omar's..!) For the last several weeks, I have to deal with the stress of my bird dealing with this ordeal... I have called off work; left work early; gone to vets! But the stress of feeling like you are going to lose your bird is above all a horrible feeling. I love my bird- as I love every-single-one of my pets! The pain and stress Omar's has cause my bird and I are reprehensible. I will never again go to Omar's to get my birds groomed! In regard to the shop, itself, I love Diana!! But the truth is, they are always busy and under-staffed... Always!!!! It always made me anxious to go to Omar's because staff always seemed overwhelmed with the workload! This, ultimately, can potentially have detrimental effect on the well-being of the birds. Case in point- the day I took my birds for grooming, they were short-staffed, and my bird was groomed by one tech rather than two! The situation at Omar's immediately and directly harmed my bird! Like I emailed Omar... they do not sell toys, they sold me a bird! A bird whom I love!!! I trusted Omar's to care for my birds but they let one of mine down!! Omar, finally, replied and refused to take responsibility for injury to my bird. He denied that my bird was injured at his store. He was more concerned with this YELP review than my bird! The birds that his staff claims he lives for... JOKE! Omar is a real estate agent! I bet he treats his home-buying clients with much more care and concern! I used to have an umbrella cockatoo and whenever I asked knowledgeable bird handlers where to go for advice or supplies, they always said "Omar's." Unfortunately, I don't have my cockatoo any longer but I still have parakeets and occasionally a rescue cockatiel. I've been coming to this location for supplies for about 5yrs now and definitely recommend the business. The staff is extremely experienced and shares info readily. The birds are all well cared for and there is a very wide selection of toys, supplies, and food. I come in sometimes just to visit Gretchen - the store's NOT FOR SALE umbrella cockatoo. She's a beautiful old girl and she allows me to give her skritches sometimes when I'm missing mine. read more

I used to bring my first bird to get her nails and wings done here and they were extremely aggressive with her handling, my second bird has never his wings clipped before but I was bringing him to get his nails clipped because there wasn't anywhere else I was familiar with. after reading the reviews I was very skeptical but decided to check out the store anywhere where they now added a waiver to sign saying they will not be responsible for any birds injury or death. If you hurt a bird you should we held responsible. Preexisting conditions I understand, but if killing my bird with just a simple nail clipping is even a risk you should not be handling birds!!! do not risk your birds health and wellbeing here, these are not normal risks. read more

I recently purchased a beautiful 3 month old Lutino Dusky Conure I named "Chico Banana." After losing my Green Cheek Conure almost 6 years ago I was so heartbroken that I vowed to never owner another bird. Well, never say never. Flash forward to the present. Once I decided to welcome another bird into my life, I knew Omar's would be my first stop. Well, as it turned out it was my first and last. The staff (Diane, Trevor, Christine and Savanah) of the Brea store were so nice and welcoming. They answered any and all questions about the different birds offered with the utmost patience. Once I decided the perfect baby for me, I was encouraged to visit weekly so as to create a bond prior to bringing him home. I visited the store every weekend, including every day on my vacation, for over a month and during that time really got to know the staff at Brea well. Omar's is a wonderful store who truly cares about the birds health and welfare. The store is clean, the birds are happy, healthy and very well adjusted to people talking to and handling them. I could not imagine getting a bird that was not hand tamed. Since my bird was still being weaned at the time they were moving, he was transferred to the Lake Forest store. My feelings about that location mirror that of Brea. The girls (Elizabeth, Cinder, and Kenzi) at Lake Forest were equally as wonderful and made Chico's transition from store to his forever home a very good one. In closing, I will say that Omar is very lucky to have such loyal and wonderful employees and I thank them all for making my experience a truly FANTASTIC one. read more

I spotted a baby orange-winged Amazon at the Santa Monica store but was told it was sold but they had another one at the Lake Forest store. I drove down there, fell in love with him and bought him. They shipped him up to the Santa Monica store but since he couldn't go home yet, I went to visit him frequently. Natalie was my go-to person and when Journey was finally allowed to go home, I had him sexed just so I knew who I was dealing with. Everyone at the Santa Monica store were so helpful and I was sad to see that store close. I got to meet Omar and he couldn't have been more gracious. He raises wonderful birds. During a grooming session, one of the newer hires let go of my bird who could obviously fly and she flew right into their huge window. I'm extremely lucky she didn't break her neck or any bones and die (I've had another one break it's leg flying into the door and he ended up dying) so this event was very traumatic for me. Or she could have flew out of the door! They literally did nothing for me, they walked over to her, picked her up. Did the grooming and charged me FULL price! Popped in one day to look around and inquire about possibly purchasing a bird. The guy working wasn't very friendly but he did answer some questions I had. Since it was for my son I decided it would be better to bring him to take a look. Only a couple birds available for sale however, others on order. Was in the area again with my son so stopped by about 15 minutes before closing. The birds were already put away and someone was mopping the floors. The girl behind the counter hardly even acknowledged us and seemed annoyed. I know we were there close to closing and I hate being that customer so we took a quick look around and left. Came back the next day again, this time in the afternoon with my son again. A different girl behind the counter, didn't acknowledge us or ask if we needed help, about 10 minutes pass so I finally walked to the counter to ask some questions. The bird we wanted would be on order and no guarantee of gender, colors, date etc. We left and went to another place in Whittier, left a deposit and we'll pick him up in 3 weeks! We bought a baby cockatiel from them who was infected with Bornavirus and passed away 8 months later. We were very concerned for our other cockatiel's health who we have had for 19 years as it is highly contagious and had to spend a lot of money to get him tested after losing the baby to it. We were extremely lucky that he didn't infect our other healthy cockatiel. We later learned that there are other parrot shops that test for infectious diseases such as Bornavirus before selling you a bird. Will not be buying from them again. read more

This store is amazing!!!! It has everything a bird lover could want and more. The birds are out for you to see and handle, every time I've gone there all of the birds are extremely friendly and well cared for, their stands are always stocked with fresh shavings, toys, food and water. The staff is small but personable, they are extremely knowledgeable and always advocate for the birds. I live about 4 hours away but whenever I'm around the area I will always make a stop here, I've called the store with stupid questions before about my own birds and they have always taken the time to help me. Birds are not easy animals to keep as pets and they make sure all of their customers have the adequate knowledge on birds before handing one off. Hats off to this great business!!! read more

The ladies were nice however one of her blood feathers was injured and her nails were a bit short and squared for her to perch on. I took her for many years to the store in Lake Forest where we initially purchased her. I never had a problem like this. Today I went to the Brea store to give them a try since we recently moved closer to Brea. I think the store in Lake Forest is better when it comes to wing clipping and nail trimming. I was convinced this would be nothing but a 5 star experience. We drove 2.5 hrs solely to visit Omar's. We had never been here but are huge bird lovers. My children and have hand fed rejected/abandoned/orphaned exotic baby birds. We've raised, rescued and cared for many more. Birds are our biggest passion. My youngest children are twin 8 year olds. They are calm and loving humans. They have handled day old chicks like pros. My 3 other children are older but obviously well experienced with birds and how to be respectful of them. This was a birthday gift from my family to me as I have talked about visiting here often. My children usually keep their hands in their pockets out of habit (we've taught them to do that at places where we don't want the touching and grabbing at things), they did that here as well. When we first arrived we walked in and the male employee didn't say anything other than "there is more on top" referring to the hand sanitizer. No smile. There were no instructions given at all. All the birds looked healthy and happy. Most are very friendly. My teenage son and husband first approached a cockatoo who loved him and immediately climbed on his shoulder and played with his hair. My younger children and I talked to the other birds and eventually felt comfortable enough to pet them and hold them. Still not a single word from the employee. Eventually a few more customers came in. My teenage son approached a different cockatoo who again climbed to his shoulder. The employee sternly told him "take it off your shoulder. We don't want them climbing on shoulders". We had no idea, but he removed the cockatoo immediately. I was interacting with a macaw and as the employee walked past I asked if it was a harlequin. He said "scarlet" without eye contact or turning his head. The employee was constantly doing things so maybe was just busy, but it came off very rudely. But I understood. My twins were standing next to a cockatoo that was on the bottom of its stand and throwing the wood chips off with its beak. It was cute and my kids found it funny and were giggling. I don't think that was encouraging the cockatoo to continue but the employee came with a big broom, a big *sigh*, not a word and my kids had to shuffle out of the way as he swept up the wood chips. We felt unwanted in that area so we moved to the cockatiels, I wanted to ask about them but the employee was constantly moving around the store and to the back. When he got sort of close I asked him if these cockatiels were sold. He said "yes, the ones in the black cage (??) aren't. They are $299" aannddd walks away. I believe he was referring to the small black cage on the ground across the store. We eventually moved to the bird toys. They have some bins with mini crocs, mini shoes and Chinese finger traps that are used in bird toys. My son has only seen finger traps used as finger traps. He picked ONE up and put his finger in. Then tried to pull it off, gently but obviously his finger was stuck. He said "mom look " and we laughed for a second. The employee walks up to him and more sternly than necessary (as he is a child, I was right next to him, his finger was obviously stuck and he wasn't jerking at the trap in any way) said "those are for the birds, you need to put it back. You are kind of breaking ALL of them". I did a nervous chuckle and said "I think his finger is just stuck" and quickly removed the trap from his finger that was still in perfect condition. My son was in tears and obviously confused so we decided to leave. We have been wanting another parrot and would've been honored to purchase any of the beautiful birds here. But we felt like a huge burden to even be in the store. No one interacted with us, I didn't feel comfortable asking any questions, my children were too nervous to continue interacting with birds...it just ended up a sad day. Maybe we had built it up too much in our minds. Maybe kids in the store are usually misbehaved, but mine are not and we not. We won't return to this location, maybe we will visit another and hope the employees there are more kind and friendly. read more

Went here with my family to groom my bird and they were extremely gentle and good with my bird. My bird does not allow anybody but me to touch her normally, but somehow they had her very calm and relaxed during the grooming. This was my second grooming and the first one I did they were forceful, used a heavy duty glove and it looked traumatizing (at a different place) here at Omar's, they used a soft blanket to hold her from, and were very slow and gentle, very respectful of my bird. My family and I have always had a positive experience with Omar's! Although, the store can be bustling at times, the staff (especially Diana, Trevor, and Savannah) are incredibly knowledgeable and patient which makes the whole experience at Omar's all the more worthwhile. We have had our AGC gender test and grooming done here. The grooming was professionally done and I appreciate the care they took with our girl. Also when it came to picking up the gender test results, Savannah took the time to write and draw a congratulatory message/image for us when we opened the results letter. I like how their gender results also includes a certificate as well. Diana is just the sweetest and I love how she and the other staff make sure that you have a pleasant experience there. For instance, we were looking for a particular toy and Trevor was able to show us different options that we can choose from and the ones that we ended up purchasing, our flock absolutely LOVE! Also love and appreciate how the birds are able to roam around on their perches. You can tell that there is alot of care that comes into caring for the birds as well as the store itself (organized and clean). Although we live an hour away, Omar's (especially this location) is our go-to spot! ^^ read more
