I really try to support small businesses, I really do. I was excited to visit this store the first time for New Toy Day for my birdies. They had a pretty good selection so one star for that, and another star because they have the birds out to pet and play with. I spent a good ten minutes picking out toys because of the choices. I waited in line for several minutes while they helped another customer, and two other people cut in front of me and they continued to help them. I was like okay, is it this new distancing thing? Do I look lost? Anyways, by the time I finally checked out after all these other people, my experience was lackluster. I could have bought the same toys on Amazon probably for better prices and without having to put pants on. Boo me for trying to help in these times! I was convinced this would be nothing but a 5 star experience. We drove 2.5 hrs solely to visit Omar's. We had never been here but are huge bird lovers. My children and have hand fed rejected/abandoned/orphaned exotic baby birds. We've raised, rescued and cared for many more. Birds are our biggest passion. My youngest children are twin 8 year olds. They are calm and loving humans. They have handled day old chicks like pros. My 3 other children are older but obviously well experienced with birds and how to be respectful of them. This was a birthday gift from my family to me as I have talked about visiting here often. My children usually keep their hands in their pockets out of habit (we've taught them to do that at places where we don't want the touching and grabbing at things), they did that here as well. When we first arrived we walked in and the male employee didn't say anything other than "there is more on top" referring to the hand sanitizer. No smile. There were no instructions given at all. All the birds looked healthy and happy. Most are very friendly. My teenage son and husband first approached a cockatoo who loved him and immediately climbed on his shoulder and played with his hair. My younger children and I talked to the other birds and eventually felt comfortable enough to pet them and hold them. Still not a single word from the employee. Eventually a few more customers came in. My teenage son approached a different cockatoo who again climbed to his shoulder. The employee sternly told him "take it off your shoulder. We don't want them climbing on shoulders". We had no idea, but he removed the cockatoo immediately. I was interacting with a macaw and as the employee walked past I asked if it was a harlequin. He said "scarlet" without eye contact or turning his head. The employee was constantly doing things so maybe was just busy, but it came off very rudely. But I understood. My twins were standing next to a cockatoo that was on the bottom of its stand and throwing the wood chips off with its beak. It was cute and my kids found it funny and were giggling. I don't think that was encouraging the cockatoo to continue but the employee came with a big broom, a big *sigh*, not a word and my kids had to shuffle out of the way as he swept up the wood chips. We felt unwanted in that area so we moved to the cockatiels, I wanted to ask about them but the employee was constantly moving around the store and to the back. When he got sort of close I asked him if these cockatiels were sold. He said "yes, the ones in the black cage (??) aren't. They are $299" aannddd walks away. I believe he was referring to the small black cage on the ground across the store. We eventually moved to the bird toys. They have some bins with mini crocs, mini shoes and Chinese finger traps that are used in bird toys. My son has only seen finger traps used as finger traps. He picked ONE up and put his finger in. Then tried to pull it off, gently but obviously his finger was stuck. He said "mom look " and we laughed for a second. The employee walks up to him and more sternly than necessary (as he is a child, I was right next to him, his finger was obviously stuck and he wasn't jerking at the trap in any way) said "those are for the birds, you need to put it back. You are kind of breaking ALL of them". I did a nervous chuckle and said "I think his finger is just stuck" and quickly removed the trap from his finger that was still in perfect condition. My son was in tears and obviously confused so we decided to leave. We have been wanting another parrot and would've been honored to purchase any of the beautiful birds here. But we felt like a huge burden to even be in the store. No one interacted with us, I didn't feel comfortable asking any questions, my children were too nervous to continue interacting with birds...it just ended up a sad day. Maybe we had built it up too much in our minds. Maybe kids in the store are usually misbehaved, but mine are not and we not. We won't return to this location, maybe we will visit another and hope the employees there are more kind and friendly. read more

My friend received a bird as a gift from Omar's. As part of the purchase they have the purchased birds available for the new owners to visit and the birds to familiarize themselves with their new owner. I noticed that the day manager of the store was very unfriendly with my companion. Several times he ordered her not to lay merchandise on the counter and once overcharged her for merchandise. I thought this was unusual as he seemed to do this only to her and not other customers. He really needs to learn how to talk to customers and not be so bossy to them. read more

Went here with my family to groom my bird and they were extremely gentle and good with my bird. My bird does not allow anybody but me to touch her normally, but somehow they had her very calm and relaxed during the grooming. This was my second grooming and the first one I did they were forceful, used a heavy duty glove and it looked traumatizing (at a different place) here at Omar's, they used a soft blanket to hold her from, and were very slow and gentle, very respectful of my bird. My family and I have always had a positive experience with Omar's! Although, the store can be bustling at times, the staff (especially Diana, Trevor, and Savannah) are incredibly knowledgeable and patient which makes the whole experience at Omar's all the more worthwhile. We have had our AGC gender test and grooming done here. The grooming was professionally done and I appreciate the care they took with our girl. Also when it came to picking up the gender test results, Savannah took the time to write and draw a congratulatory message/image for us when we opened the results letter. I like how their gender results also includes a certificate as well. Diana is just the sweetest and I love how she and the other staff make sure that you have a pleasant experience there. For instance, we were looking for a particular toy and Trevor was able to show us different options that we can choose from and the ones that we ended up purchasing, our flock absolutely LOVE! Also love and appreciate how the birds are able to roam around on their perches. You can tell that there is alot of care that comes into caring for the birds as well as the store itself (organized and clean). This store was amazing! I went in to buy a baby cockatiel but they were really shy. Turns out they had Lemon, on the right. Trevor really helped me feel comfortable rescuing this bird. He allowed me to take the birds cage to a quieter area of the store and get to know him for a while. Lemon was apprehensive but curious at the store and spending some time with him helped me feel confident about forming a relationship with him. As soon as I got him home i was able to get him to step up onto my hand! Thank you to the wonderful staff at this store that really took the time to make sure i had everything i needed. read more

I really wanted to buy toys for my Amazon and through the pictures i was able to see that they have a toy wall and it has a really good selection. Since it was our first time we did take about 45 minutes just waking around and looking at what they have to offer. I was really pleased to notice that all the birds had clean cages and they all had toys to play with/ destroy. While we were there I saw many people come in for a grooming and they were really quick and good about it. They did the grooming by the cash register so everyone could see, which I personally feel is a good thing because they're confident in what they're doing. For the past few weeks I have been trying to find a Senegal. My boyfriend and I went to the bird mart up in Ventura and no luck. We called up Omar's last minute and I was glad to hear they had a Senegal. I was told his name was Scooter, he was a little older and was super sweet. I had to check him out. Once we got there the young gentleman was nice enough for letting us visit him for a little bit. We were for sure interested and wanted to come in the next day. Once we went over the next day, I was sold! He was such a sweet boy and I was so happy and excited to take him home. All the employees show so much care and love for the birds and they work so hard. They are always busy and sacrifice a lot of their time to take care of their birds. They were very welcoming even though it was crazy that day. My boyfriend and I were so excited to take my little Scoot Scoot home he is such a sweetheart. He's so goofy and always makes me laugh. So happy to have another member of the family! This is hands down the best place to get your bird groomed. They were gentle and friendly when they handled my amazon, whistling and talking to her while they worked. Beak, wings and nails cost $24 and worth every penny. I know some places that do it for free that I will never go back to because they were rough and she squawked in fear the whole time. I like Omar's. I feel like their pricing on birdies is high, but tolerable. They have a good selection of food and toys. I think their weakness is customer service when busy. They do not have the skills to deal with people when the store is packed. When it's slow they are great! BONUS: They give 10% military discount (this made their star rating go from a 3 to a 4) bravo few companies support the military anymore. TIP: Ask to meet Gretchen Shes white and older. I am changing my 5 star review to a 1 star review. I recently visited Omar's and walked out of there with absolutely no intention of ever returning. How you could even hire that little red headed girl with absolutely zero customer service skills is beyond me! She not only lacked any kind of character, but she made for damn sure I left feeling stupid for asking her a question about quieting a stressed bird. That is a legitimate question and the way she spoke to me was so inappropriate that I will make for damn sure to never recommend Omar's to anyone ever again. 5 stars because as a new BIG BIRD owner the staff was so friendly and informative when I asked question after question after question about adopting this bird. ALL the staff was willing and able to give me advice and expert knowledge regarding this type of bird. They told me the things I need to look for, the things I need to ask for and the things I need to think about BEFORE making this commitment. Everyone has been friendly and accommodating to me. Today I brought her in to have her nails, beak and wings trimmed. They were so efficient and told me exactly what to do. I was very happy. I also purchased a baby from Omar's for my daughter and All The staff has helped walk us through the process of caring for her. I love that the babies are out on the sales floor where people can touch them and socialize with them. I think this is GREAT for the birds. We go into the store once a day, sometimes 2 times a day to bond with our baby and she is such a sweet bird!!! If your looking to buy an exotic bird, sometimes there is a waiting list but I wouldn't buy from anyone else. They also on occasion have older birds up for adoption, I love this idea! read more

I've always loved Omars but I bought an Umbrella Cockatoo from lake forest store and two years later DIED in my arms, Dr said she had a heart attack and was born with defective heart. I moved near Brea and got my lovebird nails trimmed, beak and wings. My lovebird was 10 and had seizures 5-10 times a month for 2-3 months. They cut his nails so short that he fell off his perch and broke his leg. He could no longer walk nor feed himself. He started having seizures 3-5 times a day and I had to put him to sleep Omars isn't as great as it seems, they act like they know everything. Do your research before you fall in love with a little birdie and get your heart broken. Twice! read more

I'm telling you to please not buy a bird from here. We picked up our bird months ago and they cut his wings before letting us take him home and accidentally cut his tail and made his wings bleed. Since then his wing bleeds at least once a month. We called the next day after we picked him up and they didn't even care that he was bleeding. The guy that cut his wings his horrible. He is rude and doesn't take good care of the birds. Don't let the reviews fool you I don't know how they have 4 starts. DAMN what happened to Omars ? Been coming here for years and today was maybe the first time I was disappointed in the service.( I MISS RACHEL) Had my bird groomed by a less than attentive worker who didn't even acknowledge my existence for a couple minutes. I don't expect it when they have a line or are busy I was the ONLY customer in the store. Once I got home I realized not only did they not really give my bird "the works" they over charged me for what they did do. Hope this is just a bad employees or a case of the Mondays. LOOK NO FURTHER! Omar's is hands down the BEST bird shop in OC. My daughter and I went to at least a dozen stores before we landed on a cockatiel in this Brea gem. Even on days when the store is bustling with customers, they try to greet with a cheerful hello. All the birds are allowed to do as they please on their open perches, and customers can play with them. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and genuinely care about the birds. They give helpful suggestions and tips when asked, and always are ready to help a customer. They offer lifetime free grooming if you buy your bird from them. They even board Cloudy, our pet cockatiel, for a small fee while we are on vacation. All the staff are great, however, the manager, Trevor in particular, provides fantastic customer service! read more

We were here two weeks ago regards missing parts, the store manager told us will ask their general manager to contact, which there's no follow up call ever since and we were resolve by our self. Here we are today again and ask their manager to check on the cage we purchased if it is a correct cost because base on our research their cost was double compare all others . The manager reply with horrible attitude " you have choice not to purchase here but shop it other place , it's not our fault that we are at much higher cost, and we won't able to let you return unless is brand new. After going here several times I have never had an issue! I mostly come here for grooming, they are quick and do a vary precise cut, plus they are very kind and careful with my conure. The staff are very kind and answer all of my questions. I love taking my conure here to be groomed because not only do they do a fantastic job but its a fun experience to pick up and pet there friendly birds! In addition to this they have a good selection of food, treats, toys, cages, and Playstation. I have recommended this place to all my friends that own birds! read more

My daughter, boyfriend and I came here at 4:10pm to see and possible buy a bird. The hours said they close at 5pm. We walk inside and my daughter was very excited to see some birds. Mind you, we also drove from riverside. The two woman working did seem a bit annoyed and one of them was annoyed when we asked if the birds are sleeping since she was putting a blanket over one of the bird cages. She said they are closing. I asked the other woman at the desk if they are closing. She said they are open until 5 but they are cleaning so we can not see the birds. I am not sure if their manager knows that they are pushing people out one hour prior to closing but I thought it was not right and that's one way to lose business and money from people who are interested. Bought my African grey from here so I always come back for grooming. Today I came to get her wings, beak, and nails trimmed. Luna was being a little fussy and wouldn't open her fist. So unfortunately they weren't able to trim some of her nails and they needed to. I didn't get his name but he was so helpful and explained to me why he didn't feel comfortable forcing her to unclench. I'm sorry but I'm not leaving any star for this place . The young guy is rude as hell . I get it that we use your restroom and forget to ask you . Isn't every business supposed to provide a restroom to their customers. It wasn't like we walk up to the business and like hey we use the restroom. Plus he Didn't even acknowledged that we were standing waiting for him to ring up our purchase. Didn't even say oh I'll be with you in a bit . We must had been standing there waiting for at least 20 minutes or more when we were the only customer purchasing bird food . Really you are gonna get upset that we use your restroom. Clearly we apologized . When my husband asked why was he so mad about using his restroom . He keeps telling us we needed to ask we shouldn't think that we are in title to things . Why the needs to throw those words in . First of all we are Asian we do not feel in title to anything young . You should treat all customers with respect regardless what colors they are . We are from Vegas and usually stop by and buy food for our beloved birds to last a long times. I guess we will go else where now. Magnolia bird farm is one of the best place places to go . The staffs are friendly their restrooms are free to go no need to ask for permission. I couldn't believe he mentioned that of incase we make a mess he had to clean up really. We travel from far and they put the birds away half hour before closing.. and the next day we return and conveniently they put the birds to sleep an hour earlier.. that's crazy.
