Terrible service here. Servers were rude and disappeared for long stretches of time. Literally had to be flagged down to wait us. they brought a tiny condiment dish, for a party of 5. We asked for extra side condiments and they pointed at the table that we still have some. Finally another waiter brought us more condiments but the portion was for ants. After that, we didn't even bother. Ironic that they advertise all you can eat yet don't bring enough food and have a bad attitude when you ask for more. I love their food but this location got terrible service. If you love Ombu, do yourself a favor and go to the downtown location for good food AND good service. The food is good i like that you cook it yourself at your table. The service can be a tad slow and they will get your re orders wrong most of the time. One of the coolest all you can eat restaurants I have eaten at. The fact that they make you cook your meat is pretty sicko mode. An affordable price for the family when you can eat unlimited goods. The employees are pretty respectful and get your food as soon as possible. If ever given the chance to go again I would go again. I enjoyed the food myself and everything tasted as it should be. The food was so good I even considered dine and dashing but then I remembered i do not want to be banished from the restaurant. This place was decent but nothing special. I've had a bit of Korean BBQ and the food here was more flavorless than other places I've been. The service was decent and they kept up with changing the grill when we needed them to. They were also missing a lot of the dishes I'm used to like bulgogi but their marinated steak was very tasty. The sides were mediocre. The marinated potatoes tasted like fish, which I thought was very strange. They're usually really sweet but I'm just not a fan of them here, I guess. They have a fruit and salad bar with a decent selection which also houses their sauces. The salad bar is definitely not the focus of the restaurant and they'd probably do better with adding some good salads to their menu. read more

Wow. All I can say is wow. This was my first time ever trying Korean BBQ and it was so good. Now I know why we drove so far to get to it. The meat was really good. We tried three kinds but I think I liked the brisket the best. The friend dumplings were really good, as was the chicken fried rice and the sesame balls. Ombu has an extensive selection of meats, a little fresh fruit and sauce buffet and a pretty good dessert and drink menu as well. The restaurant is clean and the servers are polite, albeit not very forthcoming with information about their offerings and how to go about ordering. If you're not a seasoned Korean BBQ connoisseur, it helps to have someone walk you through what to order, not only off of the menu but various additions that aren't even on the menu (like romaine lettuce leaves, bean paste and rice; which you can use to make hand rolls with the meat you cook). It would also be helpful if they explained the soups and different sauces. It's a very different experience when you know what you're doing. It's an incredible value for the price, regardless! Just over $20 per person gets you as much steak, chicken, shrimp, fish, soup and sides as you like. Traditionally, there's a ton of side dishes presented at the table but here, it's just almost a handful: kimchee, pickled radish, pickled cucumbers, and a couple slices of marinated potato. I usually come for dinner for the AYCE for $19.99. There's options for protein (chicken, pork, beef) veggies, appetizers, fried rice, soup, and deep fried orders if you prefer hot to grill yourself. Beverage and specialty desserts are al la carte. I ordered lettuce and wrapped most of my meats and dipped it in their lemon sauce! Not a fan of this place. This place doesn't serve a lot of foods that you can cook on the grill. Majority of the things in their menu is already cooked and ready to be served. Their briskets were very tasteless, tasted like water.. like they had just thawed it and served it to us. On top of that, they served us a big plate of rice that wasn't even warm. By the time we cooked our meats, the rice was cold. I also specifically asked server to not sing a birthday song to my fiancé. I was just asking if they had any birthday specials. They came in a couple of mins later to sing him happy birthday which got him a little embarrassed. They could've just brought over the slice of cake like I had requested. Their portions and were questionable. Some portions were large and some small. I did not like their bulgogi at all. I had nothing like it anywhere else, their bulgogi tasted odd and was red pigmented. The pork belly, brisket, were good though. Their other plates were decent, I had the wontons/dumplings and it was okay, the calamari was so extra oily with a coating that is what you would use on a mozzarella stick and not the best. I really hate writing low-star reviews, especially when the waitress was SO nice, she's the only reason I'm giving it two stars instead of one. However we had a reservation and still had to wait a long time. It was a Friday night and it was BUSY. A little scary how many people they packed into this tiny restaurant with no 6-ft social distancing or having anyone sanitize their hands. When we were seated, we waited almost 30 minutes before someone noticed that we haven't ordered anything yet. Our grill started smoking (nothing was on it yet) and I asked if that was normal because there was some leftover oil/grease drippings on the inside of the grill. The lady who came to our table said that "it's a grill, not gas"... Like obviously I know it's a grill, I'm not an idiot. The food was subpar... We never got all we ordered, service was very slow. It seemed like they might have been understaffed. Honestly, this experience was to the point where we weren't even enjoying our dinner anymore. I really paid over $100 (including 20% tip) for a place that I won't be returning to. I'm not really impressed with the Ombu establishments in Utah. I would have rather taken my money to KOU down the street. The parking is also a nightmare. We had to park across the street and run over to the restaurant. State Street is a busy road too, so that wasn't fun or safe. I wouldn't recommend anyone to come here, take your business elsewhere and safe yourself the trouble and money. read more

My brothers brought me here against my will. I am not a fan of restaurants where I have to cook my own food. Now the idea is that your supposed to plan on staying for an hour or more talking while you slowly cook your food. Now they explained that the majority of their food is meant to be eaten in a lettuce wrap with your choice of sauces and vegetables. The food was good but it isn't something I'm interested in. The fried calamari was absolutely wonderful. Their meat is high quality - particularly for a place that is only $20 at dinner for all you can eat. My wife and I have found ourselves to be big fans of Korean barbecue and this restaurant is no exception to that rule. We have already come back 2 or 3 times since our first visit. The meat here seems to be of a higher quality than other Korean barbecue restaurants. My only complaint is that I am not a particular fan of their seasonings, but the food is still absolutely fantastic. I'm sure we'll be back many times going into the future. read more

They had an assortment of foods but from different places, they had takoyaki (which is from Japan) and they had a bunch of other stuff that is not "Korean". This place is like the little brother of KOU, meaning, that it needs some growing up to do. It's almost there but I will say it has a lot of quantity of meat, if you want a buffet style Korean barbecue, this place is the go to, However, quality isn't its strong suit. This place could be something bigger one day but as of right now, there's a lot of improvement needed. It took about 20 mins for drinks and 50 mins for us to get our order on our 4 man table (and it wasn't even everything we ordered). Our 2 table corner was purely neglected. The server hardly came around, didn't know what happened to our order and just didn't care because our other tables were passing us food to cook and share. No apology was given but when it was time to bring us our bill she sure was attentive to detail! We paid our bill and still gave a tip though she didn't deserve it at all! When we were seated, our grill wasn't lit and we didn't get dipping sauces for the food. I had to ask multiple times for assistance. It's incredibly frustrating when you ask someone for help and all they do is say "okay" and never come back. I also want to point out that they were not busy or short staffed. We were seated in a corner near no one else, so we were barely checked on. The flame on our grill went out and we sat for 20 minutes and watched every single other table get served and no one even glanced in our direction.
