I tried Soon Tofu soup for the first time here and it was divine, absolute heaven. Service was quick. I ordered to go.

Hwa is a Korean and japanese combo restaurant. The environment was cute and I loved the dividers in the seating area to create some privacy during your meal ! The tteokbokki had a great sauce that leaned on the sweeter side, however it cane with what seemed to be vegetables from a classic frozen veggies mix. In my experience, tteokbokki usually has cabbage and kimchi like vegetables so this threw me off. The galbi had great flavor and was enjoyable ! Our sushi has raw fish that seemed rubbery, which I find raw fish hard to enjoy if it isn't fresh and melts in your mouth. We got free pot stickers with our meal - we're not sure why - but those were delicious !! The free desserts at the end were one-bite ice cream with a small sponge cake ! Those were yummy too. Overall, not my favorite korean + japanese place overall. I have had better in both categories. However, it's small, family friendly, and still pretty good and authentic ! read more

This is my first time leaving a negative review, and I'm disappointed that I have to. We were excited to try this place, but unfortunately the food was extremely disappointing. Everything we ordered was drenched in sesame oil to the point that it completely overpowered any flavor of the dishes. The food was so oily and strong that we couldn't even finish our meals. To make matters worse, the service experience was uncomfortable. We were on our way out when the owner called us over. The owner then demanded that we "had to" leave an 18% tip or else she would charge us. This was AFTER we already paid our tab. Normally we will leave a tip but due to the food situation we did not feel the need to pay was warranted. Our tab was already $85 for 2 of us, which we already paid with no issues. To demand and threaten for a tip is inappropriate and unprofessional. Overall, this was one of the worst dining experiences we've had. Sadly, we will not be returning. DO NOT COME HERE!!!! read more

A random restaurant in a business center filled with just offices. We walked in not expecting much and were greeted by what appears to be the only employee there. The decor is a bit weird and dated. We were seated right away and placed our order a few minutes later. I ordered a salmon roll and the beef bibimbop and my hubby got the kimchi tofu soup. For $4.99 for a salmon roll it was a steal! Our entrees came with a side of pickled kim chi, cucumbers, bean sprouts and radish called ban chan. I always love pickled veggies bc they add such a satisfying crunch to your meal plus it's good for your gut health. My bibimbop was huge filled with rice, beef, onions, a fried egg and sesame seeds. My husband's soup was also flavorful and he ate his bowl clean. For less than $20 a person for a delicious and filling Korean lunch definitely worth it! The deduction is for the ambience but if I could give it 4 1/2 I would. With the check came a nice bite of dessert consisting of a bit of cake, ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate syrup. Sneakily good sushi from an unassuming place. Was craving sushi but didn't want to spend a bunch or drive very far and stumbled upon this place. Got 4 rolls, all decently sized, but great tasting (really love the Love roll and the Dragon). We both really liked that the rice was perfectly cooked (not over done and wasn't mashed heavily on like some other places) and rolled perfectly (not one piece fell apart after we got it home) and did not overwhelm the toppings. A very solid option for takeout sushi, we will be back to check out their Korean offerings. read more

We have eaten at HEA twice in the past couple of weeks. It's kind of off the beaten path, on Commerce Drive just north of 5300 South in a business park. Lots of parking spots in the evening. The sushi is fresh, large portions, and some very different types of rolls. Favorites include the Crunchy Honey Mustard Roll, the Berry Roll, and their "special" roll, the Dragon King. The inside of the restaurant is well lit, and each table is separated from the others by large partition screens. Definitely a new favorite sushi place. read more

Went for lunch. Everything was OK, nothing spectacular but didn't suck either. My party of three was seated quickly but it took ten minutes to order drinks. There was one person in the front of the restaurant for a half full restaurant, not ideal but she was working to get through the tables. Ambiance is haphazard, a lot of different themes in the space. I ordered BiBimBop - it was OK. The pork bulgogi was the star of the meal. We also had a lunch bento box that was served in a To-Go box, weird. Food was the best part. We started off with a hot tea, the honey citrus. It tastes lovely. Filling to the soul and sweet like a honey bee. She brought us a complimentary plate of pot stickers. They were nice and crispy but I didn't eat too many because I wanted to save room for all the other stuff I ordered. I ordered the soondubu with beef, an eel nigiri, and a fried chicken basket. They were all good. The soondubu had a flavor that made it taste very "innocent" for lack of a better word. I enjoyed it and would come back again next time I'm in town. Complimentary on the house was also a desert. She gave us some ice cream on top of a thin slice of cake with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle. If you're looking for decent portion sizes at an affordable price (unheard of for Korean food!!!) then look no further. This restaurant, called Cafe Seoul now, is a great choice if you're new to Korean food. There is also VERY spacious parking. We got free potstickers while we were waiting for the food and also got a free tiny ice cream and bread dessert at the end (not pictured unfortunately). I got the seafood soon tofu which is not spicy if ordered as is. Can probably up the spice level if you ask. It was as good as I expected. I wasn't a big fan of some of the side dishes though. Something about the bean sprouts and the radish? tasted a bit off. Not sure if it's the vinegar or whatever was used to marinate it. This is the best Korean place in the valley. The beef bulgogi, and cheese pork don katsu are The best I've ever had. They give you free pot stickers as an appetizer and a small bite size dessert. I order lunch from here often for delivery. The Cheesy Tonkatsu and the Beef Bulgolgi are both phenomenal, and served in large portions. The Bulgolgi comes with Korean sides (banchan) and two large scoops of rice. The Tonkatsu is a large portion that comes with some salad and rice as well. I can't speak to the service or ambiance since I've only ordered delivery, but I hope others get the chance to try these two specific dishes at HWA! This has to be one of the cheaper Korean restaurants in Utah, which is a pro for me being so dirt cheap in general. The tables inside had those privacy walls to separate each table so no one could see anyone else dining there. I was interested in trying the "Duk Boki" (not sure why it was spelled like that instead of tteokbokki, maybe so us non--Korean speakers can pronounce it), which is a plate of spicy/sweet rice cakes. I wouldn't say the amount is huge, but this particular flavor gets a little overwhelming after a few bites. The spice adds up too, so it hurts a bit. There are also fish cake slices in there, along with the frozen mixed vegetables (peas, green beans, corn, carrots - the carrots were cube-shaped, which was a dead giveaway that they came from a frozen mixed vegetables bag, similar to a big bag I buy from my local Walmart to stay healthy). The free pot stickers (similar taste to LingLing's from Costco's frozen food section) and ice cream thing at the end was a nice touch. I am highly likely to return to try all the other dishes. read more

My husband ordered the Beef Bulgogi as well as the chicken appetizer. The chicken had a really unique flavor and was cooked well. I ordered a few items including Maki and various rolls, to much honestly, but the star was the Oh Roll. The flavor combination was magic. Love this place - food and service are consistently non-fussy and good. I usually get sushi but have occasionally gone for other dishes that are good too. I have dined-in and taken-out (pre-oder for take out, it takes time to make a fresh couple of sushi rolls) and both experiences have been great. I came here for lunch with my husband on a weekday around noon and there were a couple tables, not too busy. From the look of the parking lot you may think it's really busy but I assume the cars are for all the other units. It looked like only 1 woman working in the front. The food was good and very reasonably priced. We started with a California roll as a appetizer - only $2.99!! It tasted great and fresh! I know it's hard to mess up a California roll but it was good and the value was unbeatable. For the main meal I got the Soon Tofu Combo with a seafood soon tofu and beef bulgogi. For the spice level on the soup, I got 2 out of 3 and I would say it was pretty mild for Korean standards, so I think they have dialed it down. The beef was a bit on the sweet side but the soup was good. My husband also enjoyed his bibimbap. For the side dishes, we got kimchee, radish matchsticks, potato and cucumber, all great. I love with the food comes with the sides especially at the price point at this restaurant. We will definitely be back again for a meal here. read more
