We eat there a lot. Tonight our experience was horrible in so many ways. It took several minutes to be acknowledged. However, that wasn't the main issue. We ordered appetizers and after some time had to ask to place our dinner order. My husband received his dinner. After 10 to 15 minutes we had to ask where mine was. I was told that shrimp instead of chicken was put in my salad. After another 10 minutes I asked what happened and I was told that the kitchen staff couldn't be found and my dinner was going to be wrapped up and comped. After another 5 minutes they were bringing my food out. My husband was long finished. I waved them off. The ridiculous waitress then sent over the deer in the headlights manager to bring my packaged salad to me like all was okay. I explained the situation and he gave me my ticket and basically said he couldn't do anything else. His attitude was more centered on it was acceptable that we were obviously lied to and this treatment was okay. They've lost our business. read more

The bar service sucks! Be prepared to wait 15 minutes to be served! They will ignore you until it is convenient to them to serve you even when service isn't that busy! Avoid this place if you are thirsty! read more

Went to this restaurant today on a whim and it turned out to be an excellent choice! I ordered the New Orleans BBQ shrimp platter and it was delicious! The sauce was spicy with a kick and the garlic mashed potatoes were just heaven! My boyfriend ordered oysters and a catfish platter and he loved it also. Overall great experience, great food, and nice restaurant. Will definitely come back!There is a bar on the other side but we didn't visit it tonight. Maybe next time! read more

I have ordered takeout from On the half Shell restaurant from Waitr twice now. The restaurant is literally 5 minutes from my house. Under certain circumstances I prefer takeout instead of picking up myself. However, both times our food has been cold, missing, or undercooked. The wife and I had lunch here this past Friday, as recommended by a friend. My hot roast beef poboy with au jus was good but nothing special. The wife's oyster poboy was good but somewhat bland. Service was adequate but cleanliness was subpar. Both of us had to "dump" the crumbs from our chairs before we sat down, as if a child ate crackers prior to our arrival. Service was terrible. We sat in the bar area and it took at least 10 minutes for the bartender/waitress to greet us (and we were starving!). She had an attitude. It took an additional 30 minutes to get our food (and they weren't busy). The fried pickles were ok, the galvez catfish was so mushy and tasteless I didn't even finish it. Went with another couple for dinner and then met a group of friends at the bar for drinks. I should have known we were in trouble when there were very few people there on a Saturday night. We ordered our food and when the waiter brought us our salads he did not give us any silverware. We politely asked several other servers and they told us he would get them. Finally, my friend had to get up and go to the kitchen to retrieve some. I ordered the Shrimp Jefferson which was an eggplant casserole with shrimp on top. For $17.95 I was expecting a much larger portion than the small casserole dish I was brought. The dish was terrible. When I go out to eat I really want to eat something that I can't cook at home better. Three small shrimp sat on top and they looked like they were charred under a broiler. My husband ordered the shrimp dinner which proudly boasts jumbo shrimp. The shrimp were medium at best and the dish was mostly fries. My friend ordered a baked oyster appetizer and she was served a large piece of bread with her appetizer. I wasn't even given any bread. Afterwards were met six other couples in the bar area. My husband ordered a beer from the barmaid and she told him some outragous price was due and he said, "For what?" and she said for all the beers he drank. Needless to say, that was the first beer we had ordered in the bar. She obviously was trying to scam people because she told another friend that his bill was for sixteen beers. He said, "If I drank sixteen beers, I would not be talking to you right now." A little later my husband ordered another beer. I just so happened to be sitting at the bar with another friend when she put the beer on the counter and noticed my husband was not around and took all his change and put it in her tip jar. Very disappointed. I've tried this place twice, and I'll never go back. First time I was left standing in line by myself and after 20 minutes I never was waited on. Second time, ordered to go platter. Was told 15 minutes it would be ready. After waiting for over 30 minutes I had to ask again. Since the Davis family purchased On the Half Shell, the quality of food and the service has continually gone down. We have frequented this restaurant in a regular basis long before the Restaurant was sold. It is a convenient location and has live music. Unfortunately, the better bands are no longer in a routine schedule. Our last and final visit was terrible!!! After our first cocktail, we were told the kitchen was running behind and if we ordered at that moment it would be a minimum of 30-40 minutes before our food would hit the table. That was true. The "soup" was so thick it piled on the spoon like mashed potatoes. The salad literally had about 10 pieces of lettuce on the plate and we were told they were "out of croutons". The mashed potatoes were warm on the outside, but ice cold on the inside. The table was rarely cleared between courses and quickly became full!! When we completed our meal our check was delivered. Of course, it was incorrect! Never fails!!! Previously, the owners or upper management were always present. That is no longer the case. Due to their lack of concern and the declining quality at premium prices - we will no longer eat at this establishment!!! read more

Not worth the money for sure. I got the Carolina crab cakes and I didn't like the crab in it for sure. Way too fishy. We also got crab claws as a starter and they were fishy as well. My mom got a soft shell crab (her favorite) and didn't finish it...that can say a lot. Our waitress was also really weird or just distracted? Went for Sunday brunch last week. 20 minutes after order placed they advise no hash browns. When brought to table Benedict order wrong. Wife ordered seafood salad, advertised on menu as their signature dish. When the salad came it had four shrimp and literally a tablespoon of crabmeat. When questioned, the Waitress discussed with the manager. Response was that the cost of seafood has gone up so they couldn't give more seafood, but they would comp the meal. Really?? Will never patron this establishment again. We took a seat at the bar. The tender, asked "you want something to drink", beer and a martini is what we ordered. She asked, "do you want it in a martini glass"? The olives were "dropped" into the drink and not on a skewer. She did not give us flatware or napkins for our meal...........which was a dozen chargrilled oysters. The oysters were completely dirty and full of barnacles. We had to ask for water several times. Not a food snob, just a good tipper who loves a good service and good food. I live nearby and want to love this place so badly, I keep going back ... The only thing I find consistent is the inconsistency. Unfortunately, it seems to be back to the level of poor. We had to send a SALAD back 3 times because they couldn't take the time to pay attention to what was supposed to come on the salad. I finally read the ingredients to the server. The raw oysters were fair but chargrilled were like something you'd find in the Midwest at a restaurant trying to serve Louisiana cuisine. There was little to no seasoning, overcooked and just had a mound of melted mozzarella on top with no wonderful buttery goodness to dip your bread in. It was very disappointing. So disappointing! My husband and I so wanted this to be a nice place to dine out. I ordered the French dip and couldn't eat it because it was so salty. My 1st thought was that the "au jus" was the problem but no, it was the poboy itself. I sent it back and shared my husbands plate with him. He ordered the half and half with fried catfish, shrimp and potato salad. One bite of the potato salad and he spit it in his napkin. The fish and shrimp had reasonable flavors but we're both served just a bit above room temp. Eating a hush puppy was like chewing gravel. Poor food aside, the restaurant floor was so dirty it had a slippery greasy feel. Looking around I didn't see anyone that looked like Mgmt to bring our complaints too. Horrible management! Ordered a drink that I thought was on happy hour menu. Waiter was real nice and was going to take care of it, but young girl manager argued with him and was so rude and told me, "No way".
