Once Bitten's eye-catching storefront drew me inside as I was walking along Broad Street in Red Bank. I mostly just wanted to see what this bright pink donut shop was all about, but after checking them out, I knew I had to give them a shot. It was later in the afternoon, so certain flavors were sold out, but there was enough of a selection that it still took me a minute to figure out what I wanted. The employee working at the counter was friendly - the display showcasing the various donut flavors wasn't completely visible while I was standing at the register, and there were a few customers behind me, so I appreciated her help with identifying the remaining assortment. I eventually settled on the apple fritter. I loved the filling, which tasted like fresh apples. Even glazed, the fritter wasn't overly sweet. I recently stopped into Once Bitten and am so glad I did! Looking at the beautiful selection of signature donuts, it's hard to decide on just one. I tried the cannoli and rainbow cookie donuts, and absolutely loved them! The real cannoli filling instead of just overly sweet icing like many places do really made it. Besides the selection of regular donuts, they also have a good selection of gluten free donuts. I brought home two of the gluten free donuts for my dad and he absolutely loved them. He said they weren't dense like many gluten free baked goods, and really tasted like a regular donut. I was the only one in there at the time, but the service was good and the lady at the counter was friendly! The interior is adorable and has such fun decor. There's even a spot to take a cute picture yourself or with friends! They have some coffee options and ice cream on the menu as well, so there are options for everyone! It is pretty pricey, with the gluten free donuts being $5.75 each and the signature donuts being a little less. Despite the price, Once Bitten is definitely worth a visit on occasion because of how delicious the donuts were. Wow! I was completely blown away with the variety of donuts they had ! I literally just could not believe how many choices they had. It is impossible to choose 1 or even 1 dozen. Every donut looks delicious and I tried at least a dozen and every single one was delicious. They also had ice cream and different flavored ice cream cones , ice cream toppings , hot tea and coffee, some crumb cakes and custom cakes ! Super friendly fast service. Apparently you can customize the donuts but there's no mention on the site or in the store that states that and no employee explained that either. I loved the donuts we ate from Once Bitten. We were craving a good jelly donut. Not the kind that has a teaspoon of jelly hidden halfway through the donut. Really cute spot and great place for kids and adults alike. We are gluten free and they had very tasty donuts and muffins. We are not celiac and it seems like the cross contamination could be a problem. The blueberry donut is the winner along with the gf Oreo crunch donut. It would be helpful to separate the items and to know whether the donuts are fried in the same batch as the other donuts. If we weren't gluten free, I'd think I'd spend all day trying to chose from the variety of incredible donuts. The hardened caramelized sugar top plus the custard inside was AMAZING. This shop is an hour from my house and I would definitely take trips to Red Bank to have it again. Inside was clean and I loved that there was a display of all the donuts we could choose from beforehand. We paid $21.50 for half a dozen special donuts which is decent. The Peanut Butter, Boston Creme, Red Velvet and Nutella were also very good. The Red Bank top part was good but the bottom was a bit dry. I'm only giving 2 stars because of the friendly and attentive hourly employees, who surely aren't being paid a living wage. I purchased 3 donuts. 1/ An "old fashioned" lemon (no lemon taste whatsoever). The only flavor component was the very obvious and overwhelming taste of rancid oil. 2/ A glazed croissant donut which was inedible due to it being disgustingly chewy (due to the dough being overly mixed) and not fully baked/fried. 3/ A Cotton Candy donut whose dough was yet again, overly mixed. It also had that terribly over processed fake "whipped topping" that everyone knows is made of a base of hydrogenated oils. For the outrageously greedy price the wealthy owners charge, they would rather skim on quality and use highly processed "ingredients" created in a lab over naturally based ingredients. They could have used a homemade buttercream icing in place of the garbage they choose to use: I expect to be contacted by them so they can do right and offer me a full refund. I'm never coming back. All that disappointment for $15, for ice cream that was bland to begin with.
