I have bought clothes and sold clothes back here and it's so convenient to bring stuff my kid has grown out of and get new stuff for a really good price because the total gets offset by what I sold back. Looking for a place to shop for your little ones where you feel welcomed the moment you walk in, this is NOT that place. I walked in no greetings at all. I came to try out this location all the way from Rancho Cordova. I usually shop at the Marconi location and sometimes Citrus Heights or Elk Grove. I wanted to try this location and was actually excited about coming to find clothes for my one year old twins. The selection was terrible, I found a couple of shorts for my daughter (18 months) and literally nothing for my son (24 months) what I did notice was stains on multiple clothing. I understand once in awhile you miss the stains when they buy but literally the amount of clothing with stains lets me know no one is taking the time to really check the clothes. The prices were ridiculous, yes I'm comparing the prices to the other locations and literally a joke for clothing and the toy/puzzle area. I am in the store shopping for maybe 20 minutes, I found a few items for my daughter that I really could have left there nothing special at all but because I had been in the store for awhile I felt kinda weird just walking out with nothing (silly I know). There is a lady and her two daughters and a baby in line in front of me at the register, an older lady bumps past me then after a few seconds looks back at me and says oh excuse me. She then asks the lady in front of me (she just finished her transaction) if she could "borrow her daughters head" to see if a hat fit her since she said she seems to be about her granddaughters age. She sets her clothing down at the register and the kitty girl puts the hat on it's too small blah blah the lady and kids leave. The old lady at the register smiles at the old lady customer and starts ringing up her purchases completely ignoring me as if I was not just waiting in line. After standing there in disbelief at the lack of manners from both old ladies who have to be 70 years old each, I shook my head and put the clothes randomly on a rack out the basket I was carrying down and walked out. I seen the reviews before I went and should have paid attention, the rude old lady and the old man carrying boxes to the back I'm assuming are the owners have TERRIBLE customer service skills. He walked past me multiple times saying nothing then finally spoke after at least the 5th time. Terrible selection in clothing, terrible quality ummm no one wants stained clothes used or not and pricing lets me know these old fools are losing their minds. 0/10 would NOT recommend this location! read more

I never write reviews but I feel like I have to help other busy moms not waste their time here! I got here at 12:30pm on a Tuesday. I spent the entire morning going through my baby/toddler stuff, organizing it by size, making sure it was clean and even putting matching sets together. I read the website beforehand to understand the selling process. I had four Rubbermaid bins of baby clothes, a $200+ pack n play, a baby swing, and a $150+ baby carrier. I walk in with my three kids under three and say, "Hello, I have some items I'd like to sell" An older brunette lady responds, "Well I'm not available until 7pm and that's when we close so come back then" I say, "well I have my three kids here right now, I can't come back later. I have everything cleaned and organized and ready to go" She said, "yea I recommend coming in EARLY" Having woken up at 5:30 am that day and being incredibly sleep deprived because I have one year old twins I just started walking away because I was about to snap at her for the way I was being talked to. Luckily I ran into two pregnant women while I was walking out of the store and offered all of my baby stuff to them. They took most of it and were so happy!!! If you want to sell baby/ toddler items, I highly suggest JBF. If you want you buy them, same or thrift them. There are so many items it's hard to even look at them. At most I'll find one or two things worth the purchase price. Same goes for Cit Heights location. read more

I'm so glad to find an affordable place to buy clothes for my son. He grows so fast my arms can't keep up! The store was very clean and well organized. It took me about 5 minutes to grab what he needed, and left me time to browse. The customer service was quick and informative but obviously to get you going out the door. As a buyer, I enjoy checking at this location when I am in the area. The staff has always greeted me upon entering the store and when I need to check out, they'll quickly put aside what they're doing to assist me. I do agree that some items can be overpriced, but I've found some great deals on Itzy Ritzy toys, sleep sacks, and baby blankets. There's an overwhelming amount of baby clothing and have found some great items to complete my children's wardrobe. For me, I'd rather buy secondhand clothing where possible than buy new. read more

I came on here and discovered that everything I had to say has already been said, multiple times. The owner of the store, the older lady, is a bitter, miserable person who should not be in customer service. I have watched her be rude to customer after customer and also to her employees. It's a wonder she is able to keep any regular staff with how she speaks to people. They don't have anywhere for you to try clothes on and their return policy is so short that if it doesn't work out, good freaking luck. This review only pertains to shopping, not selling. My mom and I stopped in to browse and check out this location of Once Upon a Child. Upon walking in, it was a tad overwhelming with the amount that was packed into the store. They have clothing from premie to toddler, and boy is it jam-packed full! Books, games, baby equipment, so much to offer. Clothes are cute and clean, and priced relatively well. Staff was friendly, but very busy with looking through people's potential sell piles. I think this store is so full they either need another location, need a quarterly sale, or need to pause on accepting new items. Great spot to shop though keeping budget in mind! read more

This location has a great selection of clothes for all ages and seasons! While the strict rules regarding what donations they'll accept have been frustrating for some parents, as a customer I appreciate the strict rules because I know what I'm purchasing is in good, safe condition. I've brought a few things to donate, and it was an easy enough process. This store is perfect if you have little ones and need to keep to a budget! I haven't needed a lot of customer service help, but my experiences with their employees have all been pleasant to-date. I should've listened to the negative reviews before making the 35-minute drive to Once Upon a Child in Roseville. I came in around 1 PM to sell some gently used (many never even worn), freshly washed clothes that I had even taken the time to organize by size and season. Instead, I was turned away because they were "too busy" and because my clothes weren't in bins--something I wasn't told ahead of time as a first-time seller. The staff (older woman at the front) came off as rude and dismissive, with no effort to be helpful or welcoming. I get that policies exist, but a little kindness and clear communication go a long way--especially when people are bringing in quality items. To make it worse, some of the prices in the store are just unreasonable. $20 for Gerber clothing you can buy for $3 at Walmart? That's not the value-conscious shopping experience they claim to offer. They missed out--I had some great brands like Janie & Jack, and half of the items I brought in were brand new, never even worn. I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

This location is not welcoming to anyone with autism. I was met with two employees who were very rude to me. I am an autistic adult, and I do my best to communicate and understand rules and settings.  Two days prior to my visit I called the location, I found the store phone number on Google Maps and connected with a gentleman. Because I shopped at another location, they told me that they were only accepting 12 months and up clothing sizes, and spring and summer seasons. So I called to make sure I would bring in the right product, and the employee stated that they were accepting all sizes and seasons. That lead me to believe just that. So when I got there today I had two boxes, one of clothes and baby items, and a boppy pillow. A female associate approached and let me know that their wait period is at least until 7:45, which I was understanding. We were passing through and didn't have time to wait. But she argued with me that she didn't want the clothes that I brought in because they particularly wanted sizes 18 months and up, and only summer season. I said that I was told differently over the phone, first she accused me of calling the wrong store, and berated me about it. I showed her the phone number I made the call to, and she said someone never told me that. I really wasn't looking to argue, and I wasn't expecting to get my way, I just wanted to assure her that someone was giving false information. At least take ownership that someone messed up, I said I wished I wasn't told differently and she finally admitted that I shouldn't have been told that. It was only upsetting to me because I could've brought exactly what they needed.  I didn't want that to ruin my experience, I still enjoy shopping for clothes from this company. I found a rack with a sign that read "10 items for $10" so I grabbed those and brought them to the register. When I was checking out the same female associate took the clothes, and I mentioned the deal. She again berated me and said it doesn't qualify unless it's on the tag, I didn't want to be rude and smart. I held my tongue and didn't say anything about finding those products on that rack.  She then walked away, I assumed she was ringing me up but she passed me off to another female employee. I was being kind and making small talk, but she didn't answer and didn't make eye contact. This makes it hard for me, I do my best to communicate with others since I struggle with both. So this felt like a cold interaction. I didn't feel like I was welcomed there, it was an uncomfortable environment and I will not be returning there. I've shopped at two other locations and was met with kindness. I'm only asking that the employees there should learn how to treat others with kindness and to be understanding. I would've contacted the location itself, but I feel that it was the owner who was berating me, and I would not want her to contact me. So I emailed corporate, I'm hoping that they can implement sensitivity training to their employees, I would hate for anyone else to experience this. read more

Based on my negative experience, don't waste your time at this location. There is an older extremely rude lady running the store who lacks basic customer service skills. Worst customer service interaction I have experienced. She was very unpleasant to speak with and condescending. She looks bitter and unhappy and maybe that's why she treats customers that way. I enjoy shopping at this store but it's hit or miss with what they may take from you. I had gathered some of my nicest baby clothes to trade in as I ventured out with my five month old. They refused to even look at the clothes because they were in a plastic bag. Great place to find baby clothes. Never have sold here before, which seems to be where most of the low ratings come from. Bodysuits are 1 to 2 dollars, shirts are usually 2 to 4 dollars, same for pants and shorts. Have a great selection of jackets, swimsuits, and baby gear. I love thrift stores and I love the CH location so I went to check out the Roseville one. I honestly don't need a lot of service, like people greeting me when I walk in, so I don't care about that. I just felt that the Roseville store was a bit small and didn't find anything I wanted. I'll probably give them a try again later though. I think for the CH location, it helps that they send me sale notifications so I'm more likely to go in and look around, because I do feel like sometimes the prices for used clothes at OUaC are a bit overpriced unless they're on sale. Don't bother wasting your time or gas or money here. They are picky, picky, picky when it comes to selling. A spec of dust is unacceptable, bringing in your clothes in plastic or paper bags is unacceptable, afternoons are unacceptable. Honestly, it's ridiculous. But you can't argue with stupid so just stay away, far, far away. The selection they do sell is all more pricey than you expect. It is comparable to buying brand new clothes at ChildrensPlace online than it is to buy this used crap. Don't even get me started on the customer service, they will down talk you, make you feel like an imbecile for thinking a plastic bag is acceptable to carry clothes in. I love this location, very helpful staff, tons of gently used and inexpensive toys, children's clothing, lots of shoes, and pretty toddler bows! As parents our children grow fast so it can get expensive, so used clothing stores like these are great! They also have a free discount program to top it off which is great to get some extra savings, score! They will buy used clothing which is nice for a growing tall toddler like mine, I've done before as well for a store credit or cold hard cash! They can be picky on what they take tho do to supply and demand, seasons or wear and tear. I would highly recommend shopping at this location, especially first time moms and it would make a great place to buy someone a gift card to for a baby shower or birthday, cuz they really get their money's worth! I arrive and get told they are not accepting any more buys today, 1pm. I tried to sell my daughters clothes that she outgrew a year and two ago, however, the elderly worker at this store told me she couldn't buy the clothes because to her they looked "outdated" despite most were bought a year to two years ago. Then again, she took one look at the top of the pile and said they were all outdated without looking through the pile. She was also rude about it as well which was unnecessary. If you want to sell to them, just know that they are only looking to buy name brand that are no more than a year old. If they're any older, you are better off selling them on Poshmark or Depop and keeping all profits which is what I'm doing. (Keep in mind that they will lowball when buying from customers while selling items to customers at top dollar.) read more

I just visited the Once Upon A Child - Roseville, CA location to try and sell some of my children's clothing back, only to be turned away because the clothes weren't in a box or bin. The lady didn't offer to lend a box or bin and there were CLEARLY many behind her. Not only was I turned away, with several bags in my hand, it was raining outside, I had a baby and a toddler in the car and she had the most disgusted and smug look on her face while she spoke to me. I love the selection of clothes to shop for my grandsons. I couldn't believe as I waited in line for over 20 minutes to check out after the lady in front of me. A girl walked in and the manager had the nerve to assist her! I was not happy and had enough respect not to complain with my grandson with me. First off want to start by saying I usually am not one to leave negative reviews but I couldn't hold my tongue for this place. Heads up, It's gonna be very long, but I urge any future sellers/buyers to read. I have called two times recently to get some information since we were told about this great establishment for selling kids stuff... first time I called, I asked about donations, I quickly was cut off by the lady who answered with a nasty tone "first off .. I want to make it clear.. we do not take donations" ..whoa I was surprised by that response, I was a first time caller just trying to get info. Anyway, the call was brief and she had a tone the whole time. Second call (today) I asked if they bought plushies/stuffed animals or is that not in the toy category, same rude lady from the first call last week.. briefly/rudely "no we don't sorry", end of call. Shortly after the call, my family & I gathered a small box of clothes/books to stop by to drop off and go through the process with them. The second we walked in EYE DAGGERS from the older lady in the front who I just KNEW had to be the rude phone call lady.. instead of a welcoming "hello" like a normal establishment, I get: "hi did you call for an appointment? Well I mean we don't take appointments anyway.. but did you even call? Because we are full for todays time slots...aaaand I don't want to assume that box just has one item" before I could even respond BOOM "also.. if you called you would have known we don't take diaper pails" .. I let her know I called for some quick info, thought we would be able to just walk in since they were open for quite awhile still aaaand that it shows diaper pails as items they take on this locations website (picture attached). She completely disregarded my diaper pail comment/question and continues to essentially belittle me & my wife for not knowing the "rules" and "process". I was amazed how rude this lady was.. and the younger associate in the back could tell she was being rude and could tell we did not appreciate it. I'm sure she doesn't like her either. After reading comments.. it seems Rude Lady is the manager/owner. I'm appalled that she is a person in management or ownership and treats customers this way, especially first time potential future sellers & buyers. I don't want to pull this card, but I am in management myself, and I have never and will never treat someone this way or make someone feel so stupid. Granted I know I am not stupid, but this lady really will try to make you feel like an idiot. Get your website updated and get yourself a new manager/owner who is happy and wants to help customers. Stay away y'all, go down the road and donate to Goodwill to people that are thankful and greet you with smiles. What a complete and total waste of time. Called ahead to make sure they were still buying items and explained what I had. Was told I needed to put all the clothes in a box rather than having them in bags. Came in right when they opened and was told to start bringing everything in. Noticed right away that the employees seemed annoyed and unhappy. Brought in my big box of clothes, as instructed, and went back to get other items. When I came back in an elderly lady said they were refusing the clothes because I hadn't sorted them. I told her I brought them in that way because that's how I had been told to do so. She clearly didn't care and repeated that they would be refusing the clothing. At that point I decided it wasn't going to be worth my time dealing with them. Should have read the previous Yelp reviews as it seems this is the standard operating procedure. Poor communication, bad customer service, and doesn't really help people.
