Great food. Fantastic happy service. You can tell they really love to work here. I got the grilled cheese bacon green chili and tomato sandwich with their beer battered onions. And Patti got the Southwest burger. Plus we got a few samples of what was on their menu. The chicken pecan cranberry salad is tasty. Honestly, I am so incredibly disappointed in the service we received here today. I grew up in Cortez and remember coming here with my family. So I was really excited to introduce my boyfriend to a little bit of home. We seated ourselves and were kindly greeted by a gentleman, but the service went downhill from there. The woman who helped us (who I'm assuming is the owner from what I remember) was pretty straight to the point but not very kind. Mind you, it was not very busy at all. I could understand being in a hurry because its busy but today she had no excuse to be short with us. We asked a few questions about the menu and she seemed annoyed. Later on she did ask how we were doing but from across the room rather than coming up to the table directly. Overall the food was okay. My boyfriend didn't care for his sandwich at all but did really like the potato salad. Anyway, pretty disappointed in her attitude and lack of kindness. Went in for lunch the other day. Two employees looked at us as we entered but did not say a word. So we found a table as the sign stated and waited for someone to take our order. As we were waiting another table walked in behind us and the two employees walked over to their table to chat, completely ignoring our table. No "hi," no "we will be right with you," not a word. So after ten minutes of watching them mingle with the other guests we decided to leave. The customer service is lacking if you are not a regular customer it seems. read more

We switched tables but that one was just as sticky. As we were waiting to order, I saw the owner dish water out of the soda fountain because it looked like the ice tray wasn't draining. There is clutter everywhere In the serving area. The floors in the kitchen and outside of trash cans have years of dirt stuck on them. Even when the food was cooking, the place smelled dirty. The cook had a dirty hat and shirt on. This place desperate needs a decluttering, detailed scrub down and paint job. I ordered the turkey sandwich, the turkey was old. It tasted like it was seasoned with soy sauce, hot peppers and American cheese. It was inedible. I tried my kids southwest turkey wrap and it was the same old turkey. The waitress asked why I hadn't eaten my sandwich. I told her it's because the meat was old. She was about to get me a new one but I just asked her to take it off my tab. Food was hot which is always good, service got slow as more people arrived which was understandable as there was only one waitress . Came here after a visit to Mesa Verde National Park and a recommendation from our tour guide Ruth. When entering the restaurant, it is a little confusing on where to sit. There is a bar up front with a few tables, but you can also go towards the back to sit. The grilled chicken breast sandwich was good.
