We moved in here at the beginning of September and there has been non stop, incredibly loud, construction happening on the outside of our apartment. Every morning we wake up to drilling noises that shake our apartment walls and make it impossible to take work meetings from home. Management has no definite timeline for when this construction will be finished and it's been going on for months or even longer according to other reviews. We reached out to management regarding rent rebates until the construction is finished but they refused and said the construction is required by law. They also did not specify that the gym in the building is not included in the rent and is additional $100 per person. For what we're paying we expected so much more out of our experience and I'm writing this review to warn others to look elsewhere if they want to preserve their sanity. read more

I'll keep it brief. I liked it a lot here. Its the perfect mixture of midtown, but not really midtown. It was sorta upper West side and not though and sorta Hells Kitchen, but not really. This building was just situated at the perfect place to be a combination of all of those 3 areas combined together. That's what made it so special. I had a wonderful time here. The windows are soundproof so I never had issues except when I opened it for some fresh air. You'll hear horns honking then, which is expected. The materials are top notch and I never heard noises from any of my neighbors. I'm pretty sure the walls are soundproof since I never heard any noises. I was there before the new renovations started so I cannot comment on the 1 star reviews, but I can relate to construction noises being an issue. I've seen photos of the remodeled units and they look spectacular. I am jealous of everyone. It's utterly immaculate. The prices are not exactly price friendly and that is why I moved. It was very challenging saving money and many times, I just felt economically challenged. There was no way for me to continue staying unless I was a CEO's mistress (joking). Loved my short commute. I almost walked to work everyday and didn't need to buy a Metrocard. The staff here are so friendly and the building is just beyond spectacular. I do wish i got to interact with my neighbors more, but everyone was so busy with their 9 to 5 jobs, there was no real time to stop and enjoy life. Yes, you can tell if someone got a unit through the ELLA, 421a tax abatement and 80/20 program. Corn rolls, head scarf, vaseline lips grey sweatpants, and a stank booty walk are straight up hardcore giveaway signifiers (allegedly). Anyone can spot that a mile away. I miss this place a lot. Good memories overall. Never had an issue. If the pandemic impacts unit pricing to drop by 50% in price, I'd move back in a heartbeat. Brief and fleeting, but it was nice to feel like Carrie Bradshaw and Samantha Jones for a little bit. read more

Future One Columbus Place renters: Beware! There are ongoing renovations that are very loud, messy, and have no end in sight. We are moving after less than a year because of the constant noise in our unit. Construction crews frequently dominate the maintenance elevator, and if you live on a higher floor, expect to wait for a working lift. I think we missed the lobby renovations that were done earlier, but do not be fooled - the construction is still omni-present and management has zero empathy for tenants as they drill and demolish older units. I wish any reader luck in their apartment search and aim only to inform, as a little bit of peace and cleanliness are something I value in a home. God i wish i could upload videos so that u can hear how loud the construction noises sound. Image playing music via google home and turn volume to the highest, cant even hear a thing. Oh and the construction is 24-7, cant even work from home. Idk whose fault it is, but both management and construction workers seem don't care how loud the noises are. I mean if they really care about their residents, just google it, there are tons of ways to reduce noise. Im outta words, the noise so loud right now, i cant even focus. for a $4000 apt, really not worth it. live here sometimes makes me wanna kill myself. read more

bad experience, still not over it. looks like my last review was removed. the construction noise and the drilling and the lack of care by management was just terrible, and it's ongoing. in all my years renting in nyc I never had such a negative experience even just from the customer service angle. they're like the evil corporation stereotype you'd see in a movie, it was really almost surreal. building staff was always great though, so it's no reflection on the doormen and porters, etc. read more

The management is really rude here. If you want a homey place to live, this is not your place. It is so noisy!! We have had to spend time in the lounge with a newborn baby just so she could sleep. The building has never apologized for all the noise! But, what has turned me off the most is; I was in the lobby waiting for an Uber. I was wearing my baby and put my bag and coat down. The doorman asked me to move because management called him to tell me to move because they didn't want bags on the table! I can't even use my own lobby to wait and put my bags down! Crazy!! They have cameras watching you! We are moving out and there are about 10 other apartments moving out too. My neighbor was kicked out with a 2 month warning because they said they needed their apartment. I have been listening to noise in my apartment the whole time I was pregnant and with a newborn. Not ideal!! Look elsewhere! read more

There are nonstop renovations in the building. Beware of the free month offer, it's not worth the constant sound of drilling, the dust that will fly into your apartment and the smells of bleach coming through the vents when they paint the tubs of the units being renovated. The south tower elevators either do not have air condition or they don't keep it on, so in summer be prepared to melt in the elevators. The laundry space in the south tower is old and not very tidy ( they'll likely show you the better north tower facilities). Random construction workers are always going in and out of the building, so forget safety as they let basically anyone pass through the front and back entrance. The ONLY upside of this building are the super nice doormen/porters. Management is terrible and the leasing office try's to make it seem like the construction is not a big deal. read more

I lived in One Columbus Place for over 15 years. For the vast majority of that time i had a very good experience. Continue reading... I always thought it was a bit curious that they put a "market rent" and a "preferential rent" in the lease. The market rent, was not market rates at all, but since the preferential rent was what i was paying i thought it ok. And it was for many years. Then Brodsky started renovating everything in the building to compete with all the new builds in the area. Nothing wrong with that, its a business we all get that, except how they treated the tenants. How the renovations impacted the current tenants seemed to be their last concern. Most of the renovations to the shared spaces are done so the dust, mass of workers, inconvenience, noise etc probably shouldn't be an issue now, but management does not seem to care about the people who live in the building. Anyone who lived there for a long period of time was essentially kicked out, not physically, but it was either they would not renew your lease at all or would renew for the "market rent", which again was far from market rates (hundreds if not thousands more than the tenants were paying). I have run into tons of former neighbors all with the same stories. In fact one neighbor said they have the floor to herself as all their neighbors have left (she's completely creeped out and will be moving out) The location is definitely convenient but has become way too congested in the past few years. The staff is amazing, kind, sweet and generally very good at their jobs, but that does not make up for how in the end Brodsky got so greedy and treated their long time tenants who called this place home. They are entitled to make more money but the way the went about it was disgusting in my opinion. I would NOT rent here or any Brodsky rental again. read more

I had previously written a review about my disappointment with the construction, and lack of consideration for long term tenants. After all of that, I finally decided to move out of this building. I left my apartment in pristine conditions, and was told my security deposit would be returned to me within 4-6 weeks of vacating the apartment. After many complaints on my end and lies on their end, I was finally mailed a check 9 weeks later with my name misspelled. It's also worth noting that when I first signed the lease, I was shown an apartment with stainless steel appliances. A couple of weeks before my move in date, they told me that they "accidentally" rented the apartment I saw to two different people, but they had another unit with the exact same layout. I accepted it because I really had no other choice at that point, but it did not have stainless steel appliances and they did not lower my rent or offer any ramifications for it. In all I had a really disappointing experience with management in this building. The doorman staff was great but besides that it's hard to trust something as personal as a living space with a management that doesn't follow through contractual obligations. read more

I've lived here 4 years and will miss it. I am moving because I just cannot afford the rent anymore. The doormen, concierge, super, maintenance, porters, leasing, even the building manager Gerrie has been excellent. Management has been beyond patient and accommodating to me. The location is so good. I will miss being so close to Columbus Circle. The middle of everything. All the best train lines. So close to the river. Ahh, running to and from the river, I will miss. I'll miss my neighbors. I've been lucky to live near quiet, cool, private people. NO issues with neighbors in 4 years. The renovated lobby and elevators are so much better. The entry and halls used to be so dated. New people coming in have no idea how ugly it used to be :) What else? Oh. The only downsides are that the construction in vacant apartments is very, very loud. And they're turning over the building (raising rent sharply for existing tenants) so the renovation of the vacated apartments is frequent and ongoing. But that's a part of being in the real estate business. You have to keep your property up to date to command higher rents. This is a business, not personal, and I respect business. This is the first and only building I've lived in in NYC and will miss it. I made a great choice in living here, other than financially. Paying NYC rent has hung me out to dry. read more

Have lived here 4-5 years. They redid "stuff" to justify the roll-off of rent stabilization. Cool. In meantime I have a bunch of screaming brats on a new deck that I usually avoid. I can't stop the noise. Deck closes at 9 and noise continues til 10pm. I complain and no one cares. Counting down to move-out date. read more

I've live here for seven years and have really liked living in the building. Here are the pros and cons: Pros: -Great location that is convenient to public transport and restaurants, grocery stores, etc. -Nice amenities (indoor/outdoor lounge, gym, etc) -Wonderful staff - they are truly amazing! I've lived in this building for many years and find this extremely offensive (and I am by no means a a believer in cancel culture or an overly politically correct person). I've never had any issues with neighbors regardless of the type of renter they are, and also - I have Ivy League educated friends who dress like this, and a) it does not mean they are renting apartments through ELLA and b) if someone does rent an apartment through ELLA, it is not up to you to judge and stereotype (or if you do, maybe writing it on a public forum is not the best idea). My review is for leasing agents Drew and Sara. I visited many leasing offices during my apartment search and Drew and Sara were by far the most patient, polite, and accommodating agents. I never felt pressured, and they were professional throughout our dealings. After signing my lease and paying my deposits, I realized something we discussed had not been included in the lease (my oversight). I was wary that it would be difficult to have my request honored, since all I had was a verbal agreement. But that was not the case at all with Drew and Sara! They honored our agreement without hesitation. What a relief! And what a nice way to start off in my new place (which I love so far). Oh and I discovered I can control the heat in my unit - which is a huge bonus for me. :-) read more

Rental agents made NO mention One Columbus Place is a SMOKING building when I was looking. In the lease, they address musical instruments and noise, but make no mention of eating dinner in a cigarette smoke filled room. Transparency produces happier customers, and better business!! read more

One Columbus is a great place to live! My time here has been amazing ever since I first stepped through the doors nearly 2 years ago. Sara & Alex from the leasing office are the most helpful agents, who bent over backwards while helping me find a new home. Sara showed me every apartment available & the amenities numerous times (because of course you have to see the gym on 5 different occasions ;) and each time with a smile on her face and never rushing me. Their efficiency helped me find my dream home! The rest of the building staff is great too! Brodsky is a good landlord to have. read more

The location is wonderful but that's about the only thing. Unfortunately the elevators have not worked properly in the two years I have been living here (even after a one year "complete modernization" where a 50 story building functioned with two elevators). It was at times impossible to get downstairs and residents would be forced to run down the stairs to make work... it looked like a fire drill. There are constant "renovations" to the point that it is impossible to live here. Constant noise and turmoil and disruption, truly constant. Living in a frat/sorority house is actually cleaner and quieter at times...how sad is that? This combined with a completely inept and beyond rude management office makes what could be a great building a nightmare. The management office sounds like a recording on loop, and are utterly useless to put it nicely. Now they are pushing tenants out with insanely high renewal prices. Whenever someone leaves they "renovate" the apartment for weeks. This means hearing a jackhammer from 8:30am-5pm every day. I have had to deal with this every day since January. It feels as if you are living in a construction zone it is soooo noisy it gives me migraines and makes my dog sick. DO NOT MOVE HERE. SERIOUSLY. read more

One Columbus Place and Brodsky are wonderful! I loved everything from the leasing agents, Alex and Sara to the doormen and the location. The building is clean, and safe and any repairs are done very quickly. I am moving into another Brodsky building that is closer to my work but I will miss the team at One Columbus Place! read more

The leasing department of 1 Columbus place is just nasty. The Leasing manager, is never reachable, and the secretary, would not pick up the phone if you call for an appointment. it took me 4 days to get an appointment with this building. i have shared my experience with couple of my broker friends and they said that they heard about this "Phenomenon" from their friends. If this is happening at the leasing point, what kind of service would be for those who already signed and dont have where to go???? Brodsky management - take it as a wake up call. read more

The building staff is wonderful and the location is great, however the building has been undergoing major renovations the past year. We patiently have tolerated the lobby/gym/elevator construction, however many tenants are now moving out due to the steep rent increase, resulting in constant remodeling of the vacant apartment units. During the working hours it is very loud with all the drilling and demo. The timeframe of work provided by Management is always shorter than the actual work, and they just remind you unit renovation noise will be ongoing. Also, the contractors and movers are constantly occupying the elevators during the day, making the wait times longer for the tenants. If you work from home or stay at home with your children during business hours I recommend not living here. read more

The staff is lovely. Unfortunately the elevators are hell! Undergoing maintenance which means we've had one elevator in service for 31 floors on the north side for months now. Impossible to get in or out. Takes at least 30 minutes. And they don't seem to care that they're inconveniencing everyone. read more
