Definitely legit Jamaican food. The curry was nice and spicy. I am only in town for 1 day but will definitely order dinner here after having an amazing lunch.

Favorite restaurant in Toledo! New jerk salmon is one of a kind. The buffet platter is a feast. Service is great. Everything cooked to order and yummy.

Oxtail, rice and beans, and a beef pattie.

We spent $40 on 2 "large" meals, jerk chicken and oxtail. The oxtail did not look like it was stewed, it was not hot, and was 4 pieces in a large meal, we didn't even try it because it looked so unappealing. The large jerk chicken consisted of one leg quarter with like a jerk topping on it. There was only one girl working when we went there and you cannot see any of the food from the customer side of restaurant which should have made me double think ordering here. We live and learn, and I have learned this restaurant is not the move. The jerk pit in Ann Arbor is further to drive but is definitely traditional Jamaican cuisine (pricey, but traditional). I hate to have to leave a negative review, but I hope to save someone from making the same mistake I did.

Not a lot of space, so we were glad to have gotten a table for 6. I asked the person helping us what she would eat if she was there, hungry, for the first time, and she suggested a sort of off-the-menu item of jerk BBQ. It's on there as an appetizer, but they can make it an entree even though it's not listed. I got medium spice. It was so good. The sweetness from the sauce went great with the spice. I upgraded and got the fried plantains, which were also so good. Salty and sweet. The rice and peas were delicious and perfectly made, and that slaw was chef's kiss. Everything was so good! I also appreciate them being able to split the bill easily. I'm a fan!

2026-08-26. Jamaican Jerk Pit. Ann Arbor, MI…read more OK. So this is really the only game in town when it comes to Caribbean foods, so it's getting an extra star just for that. In all honesty, the food was definitely nothing to write home about. The menu covered all the staples, Jerk Chicken, Curry Goat, Curry Chicken, Dhalpuri Roti, Oxtail, Rice & Peas, beef patties, and even deep fried plantains. Unfortunately, nothing wowed me. We ordered Jerk Chicken, Curry Goat Roti, Oxtail, and a plate of the plantains. Sides included mixed veggies and rice and peas. Jerk Chicken. The chicken was nicely cooked, but the seasoning was light and I didn't get that semi-blackened finish off the grill like I'm used to. We were sharing all the dishes, so I asked for the spicy sauce on the side rather than smother on. I went with the medium and this spice was on par with what I expected. The taste of Scotch bonnet was front and center and the heat intensified as you put more on. 2 stars. Oxtail. The oxtail was much tougher than it should have been, but the sauce was flavorful. 2 stars. Goat Roti. I had asked for this deconstructed rather than wrapped. The curry goat was deboned and the curry was decently flavoured. The meat was also cooked nicely and not tough. 3 stars. The roti was a different story. When I unwrapped the roti, the yellow split pea (dhal) filling spilled out and surprised me. From my experience, the filing should have been rolled into the dough before cooking and should have been a thin layer as it's typically very dry. On the bright side, the Dhal was prepared properly and was crumbly rather than mushy. The spices were light probably catering to local tastes and only subtle hints of cumin, garlic, and heat was noticeable. 2 stars. Plantains. There are two types of Caribbean fried plantains: Maduros (Sweet) made from very ripe, yellow-to-black plantains sliced on an angle and pan or deep fried once until caramelized and tender. Tostones (Savory) made from green, unripe starchy plantains that are sliced, fried once, smashed flat, dipped in garlic salt water, and double-fried to make them extra cripsy. The plantains here were clearly supposed to be Maduros, but they were under ripened. 2 stars. Overall I've had better pretty much with everything we ordered, but I know this is very subjective and heavily reliant on personal preference. Locals clearly love this place since it has over a 4-star rating, but I have to go against the grain here. There are things that I just can't overlook (the toughness of the oxtail and the dhal with the roti) and these are my primary reasons for the "I've had better" 2-star rating. I am bumping my rating up to 3 stars because this is the only game in town; so if you do have a craving for the Caribbean, something is better than nothing... If you'd like to experience more, come dine-with-me.yelp.com I'd love to have your company! Bon Appétit!

I have consistently come here to get food throughout the years and it has been so rewarding to continue to see Yum Village be such a pillar in the city and in the food industry! The service here is incredible, you don't bus anything yourself. I also noticed that the staff that day was all women, from everyone front of house to the chefs in the back as well preparing the food, which was extra fun! They are so attentive to us and even when there was a snaffoo with on of my party's orders. They paid with cash and I think perhaps that messed up the tracking of the order through the system? I'm not entirely sure. As for the food, Yum Village has maintained some of the same dishes throughout the years, while also adding and/or rotating a ton of other dishes through the menu. I can definitely confirm that the garlic parm jerk chicken remains my favorite and that the spice level, while still plentiful and intense, has eased up a bit in recent years. Either that or that I have become more spice heat-tolerant! Either way, the portions also remain huge, so there was a ton of food to take home! I love the truffle collard greens, the deeply unique and flavorful corncakes, and also the star of the show this go around was the deliciously complex fried cheesy fufu! It oozes so much flavor and is the perfect addition to any meal and very shareable as well! Keep up the great work, Yum Village!!

We ordered on the tablet they have at the front counter and sat down to wait for the food to be delivered to our table. They did have happy hour going, but I don't recommend it. The drinks weren't good honestly. Not sure what was being mixed but the liquor didn't taste right. We both had the Classic Village Meal (Jerk Chicken, jollof rice, and plantains). It was good food. I loved how the jollof rice and plantains were well prepared and hot. The jerk chicken wasn't served as hot as the rice and plantains so I think they had a timing issue in the back, so that was disappointing. There is a lot of food, so we were able to take home half and have it for breakfast the next morning. We also tried to the jerk taco and it was good and hot, but awkward to eat because there so much on top and it was just falling off as I was trying to pick it up and take a bite.
