Several of my buddies and I decided to go snorkeling with sharks during our stay in Oahu as it seemed like an amazing opportunity to experience this. We randomly came across One Ocean Diving and didn't really think much of it. Happy to say it was probably the best choice we made and the highlight of our trip. We got very lucky and got to see Tiger sharks!! It was truly amazing and felt blessed we got to see these magnificent beasts up close. We never felt like we were in danger as Paul, Matt, and Hailey were on top of everything. They were always alert, ensuring we were getting the best but also safest experience possible. Captain Brian and his squad were amazing and very professional, never risking the safety of their crew. What I loved the most was their dedication to research and conservation of these amazing sharks. They gave a great presentation before and after the dive regarding safety as well as the biology and history of these sharks. Giving tourists a once in a lifetime experience is great but the priority should be protecting these threatened species and I felt One Ocean Diving embodied that ideology. All in all, would highly recommend to anyone visiting Oahu and I'll definitely be coming back to see some more sharks! I cannot say enough good things about our experience with One Ocean - the crew was great, highly informative and gave helpful tips for the snorkeling/diving portion but also a lot of learning about sharks (and how to stay safe with them). They truly care about protecting these incredible animals and do a lot of great conservation and research work. We saw LOTS of sharks and it was honestly mind-blowing. I never felt remotely concerned about the sharks in case there are folks who are on the fence about shark snorkeling - it's so worth it and a magical/unique experience. The only thing I'd recommend is anti-nausea meds. You go out into the ocean (seems obvious, not something I really thought about), and it can get pretty choppy. I normally don't get motion sick, but I did not do great on this boat! The crew was super kind and helpful and I had good company in another guest who felt the same, but it was tough times for a bit there. Honestly, even that couldn't take away my enthusiasm for the experience, but I would bring meds and water if you are at all prone to motion sickness! Bottom line - swim with sharks, do it with One Ocean, take nausea meds. read more

This tour is amazing! I highly recommend it! The crew is very knowledgeable and awesome. I loved every second of it and swam with a lot of Galapagos sharks and also saw a Hammerhead shark, which is pretty rare! These are beautiful and amazing creatures and I felt safe the entire time. We went on a Thursday morning at 11 am and easily found parking. I suggest taking a Dramamine just incase you get motion sickness, I took one and only felt a little sick on the way back. Also, pay the extra $50 for the GoPro footage, it's worth it and so much easier to just enjoy your time swimming and diving rather than worrying about catching the footage. They provide you with a list of things to bring, really just a towel and water. They provided a nice snorkel mask and fins. I have small feet and I was fine with using the smallest size they had and then a band that keeps them in place. If you're even thinking about going, do it!!! You won't regret it. read more

My boyfriend and I came not expecting to see that many sharks but not only did we see TONS of sharks, we saw 5 tiger sharks which is apparently pretty rare! They came so close to us! However, it did seem pretty pricey compared to other similar tours on the island, but we felt it was a good cause because I imagine some of that cost funds their research efforts. I had the pleasure of free diving with Ocean and Juan (the owners, guides, etc.) and interacting with a bunch of sharks last week. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life! This is not a normal dive charter company - for starters the team is made up of shark conservationists, researchers and photographers. So, the experience was very educational and I got a really good understanding of why the sharks were interacting with us like they were. Now, for the fun part: we swam and free dived with about 8 sandbar sharks for an hour. I felt very comfortable and extremely safe the entire time. One Ocean Diving is an absolutely incredible and unique company that combines an adrenaline-seeking adventure to swim with sharks with the education of shark conservation. This was not only the highlight of our trip to Hawaii but the highlight of the past 10 years of our lives! One Ocean Diving led by Ocean Ramsey herself (we were totally starstruck after seeing the documentary) did an amazing job putting together a unique and fulfilling snorkeling trip. We went out on the boat and were given a brief about how the day would go. Despite the current, pitching boat in the sea state, and 4 tiger sharks around the boat, Ocean Ramsey and her staff did an incredible job briefing us on shark behavior and how to stay safe and poised in the water. They were truthful and gave us the confidence and education that sharks are amazing apex predators and are not to be perceived as monsters! This was seriously a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. If you are going for a Pelagic snorkel (no cage/open water) this is the only dive company on the island you will need. Trust me, we've been to 3 now - frankly all decent - but one ocean is the top of the food chain metaphorically speaking. You will get excellent education, truly feel like you understand shark behavior before you venture into the water, and instructors who are passionate and patient and understand people as well as sharks. This group understands, respects, studies and advocates for shark survival and understanding. I learned more about unethical finning in this dive than all the social media I've read. I'm not going to deny it; initially I was pretty nervous about swimming with sharks because as with most people I had developed a negative perception due to the media. It had definitely heightened with all the shark attacks that happened the week prior to our trip. However, after diving with One Ocean Diving I developed a new sense of respect for them and actually felt completely at ease in the water. At first I was really hoping not to see a tiger or great white, but when they said there was a tiger roaming on the outside I got a little excited. The experience itself was amazing, the only thing I did not like was our lack of freedom but I know it was for safety purposes especially because the day we came they were very curious and us roaming freely would make their job much harder, especially since we tend to scatter. In the future I think it would have been more beneficial if we had come in a smaller group. With five people hugging the side of the boat it made it a little difficult to move anywhere without kicking someone in the face (as my friend kept doing to me). The crew was awesome and they were extremely knowledgeable. You could tell that they were passionate about what they did. It was a totally different experience from shark cage diving where they head out, put you in the cage, and done. They spent the entire trip out and back teaching us about shark behaviors, what we could to expect to see, how to tell the difference between the sharks, as well as the dangers sharks face because of humans. I won't go into much detail because you should definitely experience it for yourself and I don't want to spoil it for you. If you're debating whether to go in a cage or not, don't. It's definitely a better experience without it. Without the cage you're among the sharks and you get a better sense of their behaviors. On the other hand, in a cage I felt like an animal in the zoo. Except I was an animal equipped with a GoPro and I was more worried about getting a picture than the experience itself (and if you were wondering, yes I got kicked in the head in the cage as well). Usually with most things that are a little pricey I'm a one and done type of person, but I would actually consider going out with One Ocean Diving again, and hopefully next time I'll see something new. read more

First off I was so scared the first time I entered the water but after 5 mins it was a very relaxed experience - free to dive on your own or stay on top of the water your choice. Amazing! We just got back from hanging out in the water with Taylor, Alexis (sp?), a bunch of Galapagos sharks, sandbar sharks, and a 12-foot female tiger shark. It also helped that the conditions were fantastic with calm water and blue skies. We followed the directions on where to meet and it was spot on. The gals were a little early and we got on the water right away. Taylor briefed us on safety and shark behavior. They worked great as a team to help us feel safe and comfortable Taylor was in the water making sure we saw a lot of sharks and still stayed safe and close. Alexis was the captain and eyes on deck. Their experience made it so we were able to see a lot of sharks up close and never felt concerned for our safety. I also need to say that my wife came with me and we paid for a ride along because she was not interested in being in the water with the sharks. The ladies convinced her that she could do it. My wife, who was definitely scared, was empowered to get in the water and experience an amazing opportunity. I am proud of her and so glad that the gals helped her. They were super supportive and positive. Now my wife feels like she has overcome a huge fear and is willing to try new things. What a great experience all the way around! read more

I contacted them (but they wouldn't return my call or text) the night before in the hopes that it may come through since it was already 2 days late. But One Ocean said that wasn't enough time 2 days after I tried to contact them. Yesterday was my second trip on One Ocean's cageless shark tour, and I was again impressed with their professionalism and knowledge. As a wildlife biologist by training, I'm pretty particular about wildlife interpretive talks, but recognize the fine balance between being technically accurate while also being engaging and entertaining on tours such as this. Because sharks are 'aumakua to some Hawaiians, it is important to note that One Ocean recognizes this and is very respectful toward the sharks, and demand that their clients are, too (for safety reasons foremost, though). I guess that I should mention that we saw sharks, too, eh? On both of my trips with One Ocean, we spent at least a full hour in the water and were constantly accompanied by sharks the entire time. Yesterday peaked at 17 Galapagos sharks, a couple of which came within 10' at times! I highly recommend this tour and will take it again in the future. read more

Swimming with sharks had been on my bucket list for years and I finally got to do it on my trip to Hawaii! This was the greatest experience ever and definitely the highlight of my trip. Forrest and Shi were absolutely amazing instructors! They were patient and made us feel very welcomed! They were very well educated about sharks and talked to us about stats and conservation which is great! Forrest even took us diving which was pretty cool too. I booked the 7am boat ride and we saw about 15 sharks (sandbar and Galapagos). 10/10 would definitely do again. I'm still in awe about the experience. read more

Let me start by saying I am a big chicken. HOWEVER, something possessed me and I convinced my boyfriend that we should do the open water dive. He, of course, was crying about the $. And even more so when I told him they would do a GoPro video of us with the sharks for an extra $50. 'WHAT?', he said. '50 BUCKS! That better come with a ...' It didn't. The experience was AWESOME. Worth every penny - which even he will now admit. As luck would have it, he and I were the only two passengers who booked that tour time so we had a private tour. They counted 23 sharks around us - all I know is there were A LOT of sharks. They got very close to us and one even bumped the GoPro camera. I believe my fin also got bumped once by a shark. I could have reached out and touched a few of them. read more

Fun experience! We loved the cage free shark swim, I haven't gotten sea sick before but unfortunately did get sick after I got out of the water but the women were understanding and helpful. Worth taking a dramamine before just in case! The day we went the tide was pretty strong so I didn't leave the boat side/guide rope. Would definitely go back in the future when less intense tide and have one of the divers help me go under for a closer look (of course, still respecting the shark's space). This company definitely cares about the sharks and water life and is mindful about using this as a fun and educational experience for the guests as opposed to a gimmicky and intrusive experience for the sharks. read more

FANTASTIC opportunity for free diving with sharks in an open environment. My wife and I dived with the team two days ago. Super friendly, super accommodating, but most importantly.... Safe and considerate of the wildlife. Listen to the captain and the dive masters and you'll have an amazing experience!! We saw 8 full grown Galapagos Sharks!! Docile and curious (but cautious of course) the sharks stayed at a safe distance but weren't afraid to pop in and say hello!! Please spread the word!! Apex predator!! Not monster. Respect them and make an effort to understand them, and they'll respect you.... Recommend bringing your own GoPro though.... Your personal videos will come out a little more focused on what you're seeing.... We'll be back to visit our island friends!! read more

I surfed all my life and was always a bit afraid of sharks but this opened my mine to what beautiful, incredible, and harmless creatures they are.
