When I finally got up up to the counter I complained that Covid 19 safety wasn't being enforced and I was told that they weren't going to bother their customers. I said that it was fine for them behind plexiglass barriers but what about people like me. I was told to leave and never come back if I don't like it. I told them that they are violating State mandates and they threatened to physically throw me out.

This Total Wine visit was a means to an end, to be honest. I visited strictly for two reasons: One, to procure bourbon that can't be found in the Midwest. And two, to grab a bottle of red wine that has a twist-off cap that I could take back to my hotel room. I'm happy to say that both missions were accomplished! This Total Wine is like many of the other Total Wine stores: It's very organized and neat, with helpful people all about. That's one of the things that I love about Total Wine: There are people here and there in the aisles, ready to help. The other thing that I love about Total Wine is that it's so super organized, so you can just pop into a store and find what you want. That was the case for me, and I was in and out very quickly. Sometimes, you want to wander and browse. And other times, you just want to go in and get what you want. I got a bottle of red wine, and it was delicious. What more can you want?

Each one was really friendly and helpful. Gave me a few recommendations which I'll have to try in the future. On my way to San Marcos, I stopped in to pick up a few cigars. While browsing the Scotch section, specifically looking at a Dalmore 15, an employee approached me and greeted me. I politely responded and made it clear more than once that I did not need assistance. I prefer to shop independently, and if I need help, I will ask. Despite this, the employee continued trying to engage, ignoring my clear and respectful responses. At that point, I was already feeling pressured and just wanted to check out and leave. While waiting in line, the same employee approached me again and redirected me to another register, saying he could help me there. I agreed, expecting a straightforward checkout. Instead, the interaction became uncomfortable and frankly bizarre. He asked if I needed a cigar bag. I responded clearly: "Yes." Rather than proceeding normally, he paused, stared at me, and acted as if he did not understand my response. There was an awkward silence where he simply looked at me in a confused and almost performative way. At that moment, I had to say: "I think my English wasn't that bad saying 'yes' after you asked if I need a bag." His response was dismissive: "Oh no, I asked if you need a cigar bag."! This interaction felt unnecessary, patronizing, and inappropriate. What should have been a simple transaction turned into an uncomfortable experience that made me question whether I was being subtly mocked or tested over something as basic as saying "yes." This happened around 3:33 PM on a Saturday. what should have been a quick stop after a long week turned into a frustrating and unwelcome experience. For clarity, the employee's name was John. I expect better from a company like Total Wine. Customers should not feel pressured while browsing, nor should they be made uncomfortable during a basic checkout interaction. This kind of behavior reflects poorly on the store and needs to be addressed seriously. I hope corporate reviews this and takes appropriate action to ensure customers are treated with respect and professionalism.

I asked the man at the counter if he could point me in the direction of what I was looking for. He did and then some!! I found exactly what I was looking for even though I only had a vague idea, thanks to him. I love the store, it's in a little shack next to the nursery on San Marcos blvd. They are reasonably priced (often less than the big stores). They have a good variety and it's fun to wander the aisles. Plus they have fun events and ever changing flights. Sign up for their emails so you know when they're serving something you'd like to try or something you know you like. Plus the outdoor patio is very pleasant. If you sit at the bar everyone chats, it's a nice environment!

When we arrived we were the only people in the shop so we asked the employee if the wine bar area was open and if we could grab a glass of wine. He said 'of course!' We sat down, and were able to easily see the wines available and pricing. The employee introduced himself as Jim, and we soon learned he was the owner! Within a few minutes more guests arrived and filled the space. Jim knew everyone's name, even asking about pets and upcoming trips. It seemed like a real community. I quickly got to know the other local guests, and learned about their wine club! From Jim's service, the great variety of wine, overall ambiance, and laid back vibes I would recommend everyone to check this out. I'm already looking forward to coming back for the wine club events! They do also serve a small selection of cold bottled beers and snacks like chips and crackers. I did see other guests bring in their own food, so maybe that's allowed too. Thanks Jim!
