I am a blonde who has tried countless salons in this city trying to find someone who could do decent highlights. I ended up having my long hair super damaged by some one over a few sessions within a year before my wedding. I had always loved my hair, but I was so depressed that the texture and color was a total mess, and my big day was quickly approaching. Enter Cynthia, from One80. This girl is a lifesaver. Not only did she fix my color, (which was becoming way too brassy) while keeping me nice and blonde, she has worked with me to rectify the damage that was done. She knows all about great nourishing hair products and treatments, and knows how to color hair in a way that minimizes damage. My hair is not easy, but Cynthia is super patient every time I come in and take 4 hours of her time. She's also great at listening- she'll give you what you want but steer you away from bad decisions for the health and look of your hair. She is also super artistic and has a good eye, so if you don't know exactly what you want but you just know you need a change, you will be in good hands with her. Alanea recently gave me a really great trim with a nice shape (while not cutting too much to keep my hair long). She is sweet as can be and does a great job with styling and blowouts too. I would highly recommend her. As for the general ambiance of One80, take it from someone who has sat there on a regular basis for 1.5 years for at least 4 hours per session- it is clean, pleasant, efficient, and everyone gets along exceedingly well. The delicious coffee is always an added bonus! It is exceedingly well-run, everyone remembers you and is dedicated to providing you a great service, the products they sell are a dream, and I have never felt more taken care of from start to finish at a salon. read more

I have been seeing Tyler for about 6 months for my hair and she is BEYOND FANTASTIC. Not only has she made my hair healthy and look great (she is extremely knowledgeable about haircare), but she is also a pleasure to be around. Tyler also did my hair, my Mom's hair, and my bridesmaids hair for my wedding. She was the consummate professional (arriving at the hotel suite on time with all of her equipment and products) and did an amazing job on all the women's hair. She gave each woman a different style that fit her personality and look perfectly. Jeff (the resident makeup artist at SalonOne80) was the makeup artist for my wedding and I also cannot say enough good things about him. He has a great eye and pays attention to detail. You leave his chair looking flawless and not overdone. I asked Jeff to do my makeup after a previous makeup artist that I did a trial with made me look like a drag queen. I hate getting my haircut. It took me years to find a salon in DC that I didn't hate. After that closed, I tried a few places and was really disappointed. I got so frustrated I avoided getting my haircut for a year and a half. But I'm so glad I went to one80. Roger is AMAZING. I had no idea what I wanted, but was also extremely anxious and picky. Roger was really understanding and patient. The rest of the staff, including the receptionist, were also really friendly (which doesn't always happen in DC). I loved how personal Roger was, he sat and asked about my hair history and explained what he thought was best for me. When it comes to my hair, I want to put my full trust in an expert, and am willing to pay more to assure that I have an awesome cut and color. I was fully satisfied with the entire experience and will make this my new salon. The colorist and the stylist worked together to get to know me and me needs, and coordinated a great color and cut for my lifestyle. Heather, the colorist, knew exactly what my hair needed, and Tyler, the stylist, decided on a fun cut for my face, hair texture, weather that is easy to care for and style. Her philosophy is that she doesn't trust her clients to style their hair, so she gives them cuts that practically style themselves, and follow the natural shape, hairline, wave, etc. Yes, this is the most I have ever paid for a cut and color ($240 including tips), but I am fully satisfied with the results. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! Having been an infrequent regular at Urban Style Lab ( SO expensive- but SO worth it!) for years, I had never heard of this place. My partner set up an appointment with a friend whom was a trainee there, and I went in with the intention of getting 2-3 inches MAX trimmed off to get rid of split/ dead ends. I was planning to be a regular here, if all went well. It did not go well- Worst hair experience of my life. Despite my frequent mentions of wearing ponytails ALL THE TIME, the training director IGNORED my REQUEST to keep my hair long. He directed my friend into HACKING OFF 6-7" and I now have an awkward, in between length "sporty" style. You know, a "wash and go" style that requires blow drying, product, and time to not look horrendous. Now, I needed some work- My hair hadn't been cut in months, as I was allowing the overprocessed ends to grow out and I have been very busy with work. I had hair well past my shoulders, which I always wore up. They asked, right away, if I would let them cut it short. I said, "No. I had short hair for a long time and I am over it. I love having long hair." Ricardo, the TRAINING DIRECTOR, ignored me and just did whatever he wanted. Ricardo, the salon training director, decided that I needed to have a style which could be tucked behind my ears, and layered. I told them that I DID NOT WANT LAYERS, as I think they look like S**T when growing out. They all looked startled, laughed, and Ricardo ignored me. I have layers now, and they look awful. My hair is straight across my skull, and gets wavier around my jawline. I now have a flat side which turns up like a bristle brush on one side of my head, and a flat halfway down, kind of longer, has some wave and then becomes a bristle brush on the other side. It is just as awful as it sounds! There are a couple bonuses here- I DO still have a ponytail- It's a 1" long paint brush stub. Looks utterly stupid, and my "sporty" layers will not stay pulled back. Which is awesome, since I work in a job with LOTS of heavy team lifting. Lifting 125LB objects is SO fun when you have to stop every.single. time and tuck your stupid hair back. At least I can live in headbands for the next 6 months until this grows out. My friends have all said "Oh my god! Where did your hair go?" and "I'll show you how to pin that up until it grows out." At work its "will you stop playing with your hair and help us pick up this huge steel deck?!" When I told Ricardo that I was unhappy, he said "You look much better!" and went home- it's not like HE has to live with this. When I called the salon they refused to do anything, since I had been used as a training device, and my satisfaction with what was done was irrelevant. Their motto was "Well, you didn't pay for it, so we don't care if you were happy." If you want to have someone ignore your requests about your hair, go here. You, too, can be run over and given a style which is unflattering, unsuitable for your life and your personal sense of style. And yes, I did communicate what I wanted. I was completely ignored- by the training director. As an aside- My friend shows great skill and sensitivity as a stylist. She was railroaded by the director into butchering my hair, but did a great job with the technical aspects of the experience. read more

Cynthia is an amazing colorist! I went to her after another salon destroyed my color and she worked her magic! She's wonderful with red heads but she is awesome for all colors! Additionally, she's so kind and fun! She is so talented!! I even sent my mother here and she's the biggest critic and she loved her hair! read more

Really, I'd like to give 4 and a half stars. Fred is fantastic. I have difficult hair to cut and style well and he always does a great job (and as a girl who has had more bad haircuts than she can count this is key). But I find the rest of the experience can really vary. The front desk is usually pretty helpful and nice, but the last time I was there I wanted to set up my next appointment after my cut - but they just ignored me, so I left. Also, Lalla is definitely the best shampooer, but if you end up with someone else you might not enjoy the experience all that much. So, I'd knock off half a star for those inconsistencies, but, I still won't go anywhere else to get my hair cut. This is a great salon. read more

I absolutely LOVE my new hair color. Jeremy is an amazing colorist!!!! I seriously can't even describe how much I'm in love with my color. Added dimension to my hair so it looks like I have more of it! Also had Remi cut my hair a month beforehand. He cut about three inches off (my hair was really long) and it's now so much healthier. He understood I wanted to keep it long but needed some volume to it. Finally someone that doesn't just cut random layers into it so I just end up with more layers and thin ends (my hair is very fine). read more

He and the staff at One80 really make for a relaxing and enjoyable time by helping this not so trendy guy find and keep his style. So I can't speak for their hair cutting services, but Lydia is phenomenal at doing eyebrows! She is gentle--the wax never leaves any irritation--and very thorough. I've been going to her for years! I feel that all too often other tend to over shape eyebrows or make them way too thin. Lydia always make sure they look perfect every time without fail. The salon is also quite nice and clean. I was en route to the appointment (which I had rearranged my day to go to) and was told that the appointment was cancelled since the hairdresser was unable to come in. I understand that emergencies come up but I was halfway to the salon and was not offered any accommodation, like a discount on a different appointment, or a complimentary manicure since I was almost there. As someone who has scoured the DC area for a top notch salon with reasonable prices, One80 Salon is one of the best. I used to have my hair highlighted and colored by Derrick, but since he left have gone to Cynthia and have had nothing but great experiences. I have super thick, curly hair and am naturally strawberry blonde but had been going darker in color for years. Cynthia suggested trying balayage to gradually lighten back towards my natural color and it looks great! Not only that, but it grows out more naturally so I don't have to go in to have it done as often. The haircuts at One80 are also fab and I see either Remi or Jordan and have always walked out happy. I first went to One80 sometime around February or March...I had been going to another salon in Frederick for a years, and while they didn't do a bad job, I never walked out really loving my hair or motivated to keep up with the color and style. I would only go to the salon to get my hair done once a year at most, and everytime I would go, I would always be so nervous about how my hair would look like afterwards. The last time I went to that salon, I asked for darker hair. The color they gave me was way too dark for my skin tone (I have very fair skin) and it was also a few inches shorter than what I had asked for. Considering that I paid a lot of money at that salon and never really came out with hair that I loved, I decided I needed to go someplace different. I looked around for a lot of different places on the internet to find a really great salon and I came across One80. I read the bios of the different stylists and colorists on the One80 website and all the people that worked there sounded really talented and like they knew what they were doing. So I decided to go to One80 for my next hair appointment a few months after my last experience at my old salon. Cynthia was my colorist...I told her that I wanted to go more blonde. She was very honest with me and told me that it would take a few appointments before we could get my hair to the blonde that I wanted. She really did a great job with the color...I felt more me again and my hair just looked much more natural and pretty. Ever since then I've kept going back to One80. And yes...I actually maintain my cut and color unlike at my old salon where I used to go only about once a year to get my hair done. Cynthia does a great job with my color every single time I go and has gotten it to a great shade of blonde that really suits me. I also really, really like the fact that when you ask her a question about different colors you may be thinking about for your hair, she's honest and up front with you about what would look good on you and how long it will take to get your hair that color. She also seems to be very concerned with making sure that your hair stays healthy throughout all the coloring that she does, which is awesome. Jordan is my stylist, and she does a fantastic job. She's super friendly, and really listens to what you want and throws lots of suggestions out there for you as well. I LOVE the way my hair looks after she blowdries it every single time. I always try to get my hair to look like that at home when I style it, and yet I can just never get it to look as good as when Jordan does it. She was nice enough though to teach me some blowdry tips and tricks, and it was really helpful. She also really takes her time when she's cutting my hair, and it always turns out great in the end. Overall, I always leave One80 feeling great and confident after getting my hair done by Cynthia and Jordan. I never feel nervous about what my hair will look like afterwards, and I actually enjoy going to the salon now, unlike before at my old salon. It is expensive, but to me it's worth it, seeing as that I love my hair every single time I go and I completely trust the people who work there. read more

jeremy is the best colorist to go from brunette to blonde.. i have been to the "top" salons: hayato of tokyo, tony & guy sydney, john sahag and louis licari of nyc (big time 5th ave $400 a highlight, think stylists jen aniston and sharon stone) and at these salons they cannot dye brown to blonde and make it look natural like jeremy at 180..the touch up is less often and the result is much more natural with jeremy .. i make special trips from nyc to dc just to get my hair fixed when someone else dyes it poorly..i have been having full highlights for 8 years and he is the best colorist i have ever encountered worldwide..love him! read more

On both visits my hair has been colored and cut by Derrick and Amy, respectively, and it looks wonderful. In fact, it is the welcoming, wonderful atmosphere of this salon that will keep me coming back. From my first call to them six months ago, when the delightful Shannon spent 15 minutes confirming they could match my hair color products and fit me in--the same day no less--I have been treated as a valued, long-time client. I walk by this salon and needed color and a cut so I decided to give it a try. I just got back from a visit to this salon, and it was a really good experience. Cynthia did my color. I went in for a consult first and she had a lot of good suggestions about coloring gray hair that is resistant to light colors. I have never had a colorist who demonstrated so much knowledge and provided me with multiple options. Instead of a two-step process...dye my hair dark blonde then put light blonde highlights in it....she did a one-step process and glaze that brought out the natural dimensions. Then Fred did my cut and the layers really fall well. He cut it dry, which is a first for me, but with thick hair it worked very well. I went to one80 on Saturday for a cut and color. Renee cut my hair and Heather did my color and they were both fantastic. They both really strive for perfection, which was a relief because I was very nervous about going there for my first time in years. It wasn't until today when I looked in the mirror from a 360 view did I realized just how even and natural looking my color was, something that I don't think I've ever really gotten in my years of coloring my hair. Had a great experience at Salon 180 on Friday evening. I got a full highlight and blow dry for a wedding I was attending Saturday. The highlights were in my top three highlights of my life -- Heather is a pro and and artist. I will definitely loyally go to her, even though its 50 miles from my home. Also, the woman who did my blow dry (i'll write another review when I can remember/track down her name) was outstanding as well. Not only did she make my hair look absolutely beautiful, she took her time pinning it up in such a way that I could sleep on it, and then shake it out of the pins the next morning and have perfect hair -- no pin marks, no sleep creases, etc. It worked, and my hair was fantastic all day. In fact, truth be told, this is Monday and my hair still looks nice. :-) I will be back, I completely recommend them, and I am really impressed with the level of attention, creativity and personal care as well as expertise of the staff there. read more

This is my second review of One80 Salon. I got my hair colored this time when I went by Derrick Lachney. He is AMAZING. Derrick did such a good job getting the perfect dark rich brown that I wanted. All I did was show him a picture and he executed it perfectly! A disclaimer for any clients: the $80 single process color does not include a styling. So I had to schedule a haircut to get my hair styled. The bill ended up being much more, however it was entirely worth it. Michael did an amazing job again! I love Jeremy! I have black curly hair and he did my color in a way that no one else has. I really liked that he took into account my skin tone, hair texture, and curl type, and distributed the color through my hair so it played up my features as well as the natural curl. He is very friendly and engaging so the whole experience was wonderful. I will be returning. Fred cut my hair and I told him what my goal was and how I would like to wear it on a day to day basis. He listened to me and gave me some of his own suggestions and did a fabulous job with the cut. He did not take off too much and I highly recommend him for women with curly/wavy hair.
