This gym deserves 5/5 stars because of a sweet person named Skylar who is the nicest front desk worker. This individual makes the experience upon entering onelife phenomenal! Also on the phone, Skylar knows how to answer any sort of question with full attention and detail. So sweet and kind, the management did a great job on who to hire. Also, another individual that deserves credit is named Lucas. Why I gave this review 3/5 stars was because some of the rules regarding the pool deck seemed a little bit too far fetched for those who have had swimming lessons. The music also tends to repeat itself after an hour in the gym, which is not fun for those who get songs stuck in their head easily! Other than that, the common gym rats are found and gym drama is at all an all time high. So if you know people in Hagerstown, your name will be said at sometime, anytime. One of the worse places to go. I would never recommend the Valley Mall One Life. The Onelife in Martinsburg WV is SO MUCH BETTER and that is no exaggeration. The staff at this location is by far the most disrespectful and very rude. The new general manager is very rude and unprofessional. She has her older kid hanging in the office and goofing off. When you walk in to this location the center looks clean and staff smile to your face but then when you go past the front counter, it's a whole different atmosphere. For the money we pay, the equipment should be working. That is what the maintenance fee is for.. to keep maintenance on the equipment and the equipment isn't always working. And as far as no judgement.. there is a whole lot of judgment there. If you are on the bigger side and trying to lose weight then I'd advise going to a different location or a different gym. This gym has judgement. I've witnessed two staff members laugh and joke about my size. That's the whole point of me being there is to lose weight and get fit again. I've witnessed other members laugh. So my advice is to join a different gym or go to the Martinsburg Onelife where you will be treated better and respected. When we were contemplating signing up, I told the guy I may lose my job and worry about having to keep the membership. He lied and said they'd work with me. Well low and behold the inevitable happened on top of a medical issue and they won't cancel. They said I could pay $130 AND show medical documentation but nothing about job loss. The gym itself is OK but the swimming pool has more chlorine than a bottle of bleach and is horrible to swim in. Sad this could be a best in class but not after this. Never again. read more

Riddle - how long does it take to fix an assault bike or rower ( the fix is a screw to hold the seat at right height, the rower a strap to hold your feet in place- real simple ). My grandson talked me into going Nov. 2023 and said if he liked it, we would join, so 9 months later we are still going. He loves it and is very dedicated. He's in great shape. Me still working on it but I'm trying. Staff members are very friendly and are willing to assistance you. They have a large variety of equipment and offer several classes if you're interested, along with other perks. I would recommend this place for anyone wanting to improve their physical condition and get/stay in shape. Important to me! I would like to see their cleaning crew do a better job cleaning the floors/equipment etc. Also, the equipment that is wore out and or broken needs replaced ASAP. They are lacking in that, compared to what I was used to at another gym. This is why I am giving it a 4 instead of a 5. Issue with customer service. 2 months ago, I signed my fiancé up for a free trial. She decided she didn't want to join, so I emailed onelife to cancel her free trial and get refunded. I never received an email back. I was then charged 19 dollars for the signup fee and 29.99 for the first month. I called to confirm her cancellation. The customer service representative found my email and she confirmed that she would cancel my fiancé's membership and refund my card. I was never refunded and was just charged another 29.99 for October. Onelife now owes me 78.98. Very dissatisfied. Please figure this out. Lastly, I went in person to the onelife in Hagerstown to get this figured out and I was told I need to call the number again. Just getting the runaround while being robbed. read more

So after my bad experience with "customer service", I ended up getting a deal worked out with my sales rep and got a membership after all. I'm what some may call a glutton for punishment. I have yet to, in my 8 months being a member, meet one polite person employed by this company. From the "customer service department" to the manager, Tony, to the staff at the front register, if you even get acknowledged you are treated as more of an inconvenience than a member. They let their first location run into the ground so they could capitalize on the previously established Gold's Gym client base. Then they gave a month's notice that this first location would be closing down, but not before collecting everyone's member dues for "facility improvements" which never came. The Valley Mall location is beautiful and new, but if the untidy weight room or spent-paper-towel laden men's room is any indication, we got a few years before this one looks like the same fly by night operation the Northside location proved to be. Hello! I really don't understand all the bad reviews! I started a membership at this gym in October of last year and I loved my time at the gym! All of the staff were very nice and said hi everytime I came in! Beware that the membership is a yearly one, so you won't be able to cancel early, but that is something they tell you before signing up. I will start with the positives, the gym does offer a large variety of equipment and classes. It's also a fairly large gym with plenty of space. However, a large gym with a lot of equipment doesn't make it a good gym. The weights are missing chunks, machines are "temp" fixed at best, most of the cable accessories are damaged and do not have a smooth motion. The stationery bikes have broken pieces and faulty displays. The benches are torn up and some fixed with tape. The gym is poorly ran and mismanaged, employees will hold non work related side conversations while customers are at the desk needing assistance. They are extremely pricey and hit you with a yearly maintenance fee, I haven't seen where it's gone. They didn't change anything inside from the golds design and you can still see old mounting holes from the golds signs. Their great claim to fame is their new gym coming soon and I'm sure it will be nice but this location is teribble. *Reply to Tina* If I am not in your system, that is because someone finally did their job and cancelled my account like I had been promised last month after getting charged the surprise maintenance fee. But somehow I was charged again this month and had to call back and talk to a manager by the name of Jay. Unless you took ownership in the last month and a half, then you are the reason the gym is ran so poorly. You do have One Life signs up but they are simple printed banners draped over the old sign locations. The staff at the Valley Mall location is indifferent at best and rude at worst. I exclusively use darkened room or cinema with the cardio equipment, many times there are glitches where I have to ask the staff to fix it. There have been many times where I am treated as an inconvenience and it appears that the young people working behind the desk have no customer service training. On the other hand I did have to visit the Frederick location where I was greeted with a friendly smile and helpful front desk personnel. read more

Five stars because of proximity to my home, but otherwise a second rate gym that promised better management and numerous upgrades after acquiring the facility from Gold's last year. Sadly, little has changed. As someone who works out in the early morning, I miss the fact the gym used to be open 24 hours. I managed both a gym and yoga studio in the past, so I understand that reduced hours sometimes make sense from a business standpoint. The problem is that this gym can't seem to hire reliable employees. It's not uncommon for the gym to open 5, 10, even 45 minutes late. Totally unacceptable. And when you do arrive in the early morning the gym is dirty, weights haven't been racked, it's literally as it was left the night before. Unfortunately, Hagerstown has few health club options. As bad as it sounds, this gym has potential. It's in a great location, needs just a few more pieces of equipment (trap bars, GHR machine, etc.) and additional plates, and let's not forget new management. I tried to cancel my sons membership for him when he went back to college, we only needed a gym for while he was home for break. When I called the Hagerstown location, I spoke with the person who signed him up, and he said he talked us into putting the account on hold for $5.00. We agree, but after three months, we decided to just cancel it. I call Hagerstown again to cancel and they told me they would take care of it. Two months later, I notice I am now getting billed for the full monthly fee. I call Hagerstown, and now they tell me I have to call their corp office. I let the corp office know about the cancellation and have to actually send them a utility bill for my sons apartment to "prove" he is no longer in the area. By time the corp office cancels his membership, it is now August 9th. They tell me they are going to charge for Sept also. I let them know, I will dispute the charge. They charge me, my AMEX gives me back the credit and now I get a bill in the mail for $32.99. I call the Hagerstown location and they have someone call me back, who was unbelievably condescending and rude and told me basically too bad. I asked for a call back from someone who could actually take care of this. I can't believe all of this over $32.99. There is NO customer service here. I work in Hagerstown and have over 3600 clients that I will let everyone know what a horrible experience this has been. I will never consider becoming a member here now. The best and cleanest gym in the area. If you want up to date, clean, friendly, and welcoming gym this is it. I have lived in the area for 20 years and have been apart of several gyms but one life is simply the best. I personally have not had any issues with customer service or financial issues. They have always been clear cut and concise for both my girl and myself. If I could change one thing though, it would be that you guys were open longer maybe til midnight during the week and definitely until 10 on weekends. This gym has the potential to be an excellent gym, with all of the free weight equipment you're almost always able to jump onto a bench, squat rack, or platform. There are plenty of machines to choose from for isolation work as well. Too bad this liberal ran gym enforces rules that make no sense and cause more problems than what is necessary. I was told that my gym bag was not allowed to be on the floor and has to be in the locker room, but now I have to carry around all my equipment awkwardly in my hands throughout the entire gym, instead of being neatly placed in my bag. Also there were people who broke into the lockers and stole people's stuff. They bought thousands of dollars worth of drop weight equipment for Olympic lifting, but then went and put a sign up saying no dropping weights. Then when it's 10 minutes before closing time, which is extremely early on Saturday's, they start turning off all the lights which makes me feel like I'm back in 2nd grade when the class gets too loud. This gym just wants your money but doesn't want you to use the equipment for what it's meant for. read more

I love this gym. I was a little intimidated to join because of my age. The whole experience from the start has been great. The front desk staff that I usually see is Jarod. He is extremely professional and always has a smile on his face. I've had a lot of 'newbie' questions. Everyone is so nice and always ready to help. The other members are really welcoming and give me tips when they see me struggling with a machine. The gym is really clean. I've taken a couple of classes. They were good, too. The only thing negative I would say is not really about the gym. Recently, another gym was closed and those members folded in to this location. There are a lot of them that don't clean their machines after they use them and they let the weights drop in-between each repetition. The cleaning thing is just gross and if that's how the machines are treated, they are going to get ruined which will affect all of us. Of course, it's not everyone but enough to be noticeable. Maybe some signage to educate members to wipe the machines after use and guidelines for how to properly use the weighted machines would be helpful. Keep up the great work!! read more

Refrained from posting anything negative until my experience today. Due to the snow, I called ahead twice to see if they were still open(3pm). I got the answer "yes" both times but they said they may close early and will update the Facebook page if so. So I checked again before left, and nothing was posted on Facebook saying about a closure(3:30pm). I drove their in the snow to get my workout in for the day, and as soon as I walk in the door, I was told they are closing "right now"(3:45pm). I mentioned how there was nothing posted on Facebook and I called twice, but decided to leave and just workout at home. After arriving home (4:10pm) I saw they posted on Facebook that they were closing at 5PM!! I could have done a full workout after getting there at 3:45 but I was told a completely different answer by the worker saying they were closed. So I called and was then given another different answer by the manager saying they are closing at 4:30. At this point I'm angered and confused since I drove there and home in the snow to be lied to twice. I've been a member here for at least 4-5 years and am seriously considering a new gym. This goes to show how bad the management is and how out of touch this gym is with it's workers,management, and customers. On top of this, they also lied about building an outdoor portion with the gym. It was never done and seems that it never will be done. This place is a joke. It's clean, the equipment is nice, the group excercise classes are AMAZING, staff is friendly, members are friendly, daycare is great. This review is strictly based on the fees and cancellation process of the gym however I have not heard good things about the gym itself. I wish I could give 0 stars. First of all, members of my office were given a discount on the fees that are required upon starting a membership. This is the only reason that I decided to give this gym a shot. When we joined, the new gym in the mall still hadn't opened yet. However, one of my coworkers asked if the membership allowed the use of all OneLife gyms. Because she asked this question, she was immediately charged her membership fees. Even though the gym she was signing up through wasn't even open yet, they attempted to charged her for months before she realized it. This resulted in her receiving a collections notice that OneLife was charging her $400 for a gym membership she hadn't even used BECAUSE THE GYM WASN'T EVEN OPEN YET. When you try to cancel the membership they give you some bullshit options that include either sending a doctor's note, proof of you moving far away, or paying for 3 months worth of fees just to cancel. The woman "helping" me is the least helpful person in the world and I will never ever ever recommend this gym to anyone ever for any reason. I would rather gain weight and be on the next feature of My 600 Pound Life than to ever consider joining this joke of a gym that doesn't care about it's members unless they see a way to get money from them. read more

Ummm? It makes a good 1st impression especially since it has a pool.. Another outdoor pool was suppose to be built last Spring 2019 but now it's up in the air if & when that might happen. It is built high quality but not run and maintained at the same quality. This worries me because I heard about the other location in Hagerstown being run into the ground. It's too much to explain but if you go there a few times you will understand. What's more hilarious is I have towel service with my membership But my key card never works to open the towel door. They always say they're going to let headquarters know and fix it why they can't fix it right here I don't know. This problem has existed for over a year I just came back this evening after 4 months it still didn't work and I told the front desk about it, they looked up my membership and said I don't have towel service. So the situation went from bad to worse, Luckily my sales girl Paula still works here and confirmed I had towel service otherwise I don't know what direction that woulda went. I can go on and on but I definitely think it's worth it because of the pool. So I just hope things get better. Why build a rock solid place But then have it managed poorly. The gym is very nice (valley mall) and has lots of new functional equipment, the kids area and splash pad are awesome as well, my one and only complaint is the hours, I really wish they were open later on weekends or at the very least had a key fob at the door that would allow members in after regular hours. I am beyond frustrated with how Onelife Fitness conducts business. I canceled my membership in February 2020. The last payment was made in March 2020. Beginning June 2020, Onelife Fitness reinstated auto payments WITHOUT my consent or request. I have emailed the corporate office twice, submitted a complaint to the BBB, and they are still not demonstrating attention to honoring my cancelation. read more

The customer service is terrible and they won't let me cancel my membership. They say "call this number" the number says to "go to this website" which has no link to cancel. The gym is very clean, huge, has a lot of equipment and everyone that works there is so nice.

Just joined the gym and already love it. It's a nice open, spacious layout. Nothing feels crowded. The bathrooms are super clean. The spin instructor did an excellent job keeping the class motivated while continuously pushing us mentally and physically. It's in a great location. Ok... this gym may be pretty on the outside, but if you look at the numbers, they are really not focused on their members. Joining fees are astronomical! Putting your membership on hold, will still get you a charge for the months that you are not using it... unless you can get a doctor to say that you medically cannot go. Cancelling your membership is the worst bullshit ever! Even if you cancel at the beginning of the month, you are still going to get an administrative charge just to close your account. Even if you are past your year mark. Don't go here. There are plenty of other gyms that aren't full of a bunch of douches. read more

This new Valley Mall location has almost everything that a serious athlete needs to train. The shear scale of the gym is almost staggering walking through the door. The Kids' Club is extremely useful for people with kids, and mine absolutely love it. There is always more than enough cardio equipment to use, and a great variety of it. I rarely have to wait for weights in the free-weight area of the gym, and the fact that it has five separate deadlift platforms is phenomenal. The astro-turf area is awesome as well, since it allows for sled work and other activities. Further, if you're a swimmer, there is a lap pool; if you like basketball, there is an indoor court; if you like to take cardio/step classes, there is large room for that and many classes to choose from (and they are free with your membership); if you like cycling, there is an awesome cycling theatre. So basically, this gym has everything. As far as gyms go, it is probably the best gym I have ever gone to. However, I only give it 4 stars for 2 reasons encompassed within 1 sign posted in the gym that says "No dropping weights and no chalk" (or something along those lines). One, you don't put deadlift/oly platforms and bumper plates in a gym and then tell people not to drop the weights - THAT IS WHAT THOSE TOOLS ARE DESIGNED FOR. Two, if you're doing those types of lifts, you have to chalk up occasionally (especially if you're not allowed to "drop" the weights). I find this policy kind of like handing a child a piece of candy and then telling them they can't eat it - you've got an area and equipment specifically designed for dropped weights, but you're not allowed to drop the weights. I am also a little suspect about some of the training techniques being employed by the PT's in there. At any rate, it really is a good gym with a ton of amenities for a fair price. Everything in there is brand new and useful to fit a very wide range of fitness goals. I highly suggest it to anyone in the area who needs an all-encompassing gym. read more
