The HIIT format is great and exactly what I needed to supplement my casual running and bike riding to really take it to the next level. The instructors are all awesome and they really push you. I also like that they aren't so pushy with buying more classes or gimmicky monitors. I've been trying to switch it up with my workout routine to have more diversity with the exercises. I usually go to spin classes so I appreciate the cardio aspect of this but love that there is more weights involved. I recently tried Barry's and loved it so I figured I'd try this one as it's closer. Upon arrival, the woman at the front desk got me checked in and told me I could wait until the earlier class finished so she could give me an overview. They do have lockers in the bathroom for your stuff; however, most people just left their stuff in the open cubbies at the front. One the earlier class let out, us first timers were brought into the room and shown how to work the treadmill since it wasn't a generic one. For this class, the room has blue lighting and the instructor is on an elevated platform (or should I say DJ booth). The stage is where the exercises are demonstrated and you can always look for the instructor. While Barry's usually does a clean split between time on the treadmill and then the floor... SWEAT has 5-7 minute intervals and rotations. I didn't love this as I was sharing a space with someone else so when I got to the floor... there was sweat from the other person over the bench and it was a bit gross. Additionally, I think more time gets wasted doing the transitions. The workout itself was great and the instructor was nice. When on the treadmill, I appreciate that they give a walk, jog and run option although with the speeds they mention... no way are you still walking unless you're doing your own thing. On the floor side, I do wish they offered more options or guidance to those who have injuries and can't do some movements. I understand it's a large class so it's not feasible but it's something to note. All in all, it was a good workout and I'd visit again BUT would still pick Barry's over this one. read more

Went for the first time and left leaving, booking my second time! I use ClassPass and this is definitely one of the best deals I've found that also aligns with how I like to workout. The front desk staff is super friendly and helpful. For your first time, you will have to fill out additional information when you arrive, so I would get there 10mins early, The class is fun, up beat and can be scaled up or down. Came here through classpass and I loved it. I think it's better than Orangetheory which I did for a long time religiously but then stopped. What I love is that each interval is 6-7 minutes and you alternate between floors and treadmill so you are never bored. The instructions can be quite fast but the coach I had was super energetic and fun. Def coming back here. read more

The place smells amazing as soon as you walk in! Free towels for your workout and an amazing peppermint scented towel to cool you off afterwards! The bathroom had great amenities for the ladies: shampoo, lotion, hairspray, hair dryer, etc. Coach Torrey, I hate and love. She's amazing, challenges you to push but in the best way possible. Her class is a combination of cardio and weights; I can see how you can truly get toned and lose LBs quickly with the consistency of this class. Worst gym class experience I've ever had and I've been to quite a few places since I'm a ClassPass holder. My fiancé and I came here for the first time recently and it will most definitely be our last. First of all, the staff was not at all friendly. We walked in and were greeted by the girl behind the counter, but that was it. The instructor never came to us to introduce herself or anything which I didn't think mattered... Until it was time to start class and she jumped in without even attempting to show me and my fiancé how things work - a crucial thing when attending a new class for the first time. Sure, they had us watch a video to "learn how class works", but I'm a learn-by-doing person, so that wasn't helpful when it came to these complicated treadmills. I started on the floor and when it was time to move to the treadmill. I was fine until it was time to get off. The instructor was speaking really fast and I didn't understand what she meant by "recovery mode" (again, all I knew about this class was from watching a 3-minute video), so I pressed "stop" because I needed to get off the treadmill and wasn't sure what else to do. At that point, the instructor came over and FINALLY gave some instruction, but while doing so started the treadmill when I had one foot on it, so I went flying back and fell down. My knee that has arthritis in it smashed into the floor and I immediately left the room because of the pain. All of this happened within the first 15 minutes of class and I did not go back in to finish - not just because my knee was now in pain, but also because falling down like that was so embarrassing. Again, I've been to many different types of fitness classes outside of my normal Bootcamp, but never have I left a class before it was over. Additionally. I have never felt so uncomfortable and confused in a class - but that's completely on the instructor. Tip for the establishment - hire instructors who care about the people showing up for the classes and who are willing to walk new people through how class works, especially if it's their first time attending a class at this type of establishment. read more

Came here through class pass and loved every minute of it. This class will get your heart rate up and get you sweating. I learned that SWEAT is an acronym, and stands for "specialized weights endurance athletic training." This is probably not for someone who is not used to high endurance training. It has lots of sprinting, weights, and sled pushing going on, with very little rest time. It sounds brutal, but it's a good brutal. I love the way I feel after a class. Don't get me wrong, you can always adjust your sprinting to running or slower if you need to, but it is definitely fast paced. They make you go back and forth between the treadmill and weights. You can let them know if you have an old injury that you might need to modify the workout for. If you like a hard challenge and to burn a lot of calories... I highly recommend trying them out. read more

Setup: trying new things The better: Maybe the best bang for your buck (and time) workout. Half treadmill work with some insane inclines, half weights/mat/boxing/etc, all HIIT. Instructors are all very friendly and motivating. You can order a smoothie to be ready for you post-workout. The lesser: I was unable to walk/sit/stand properly for 2 days after my first class, but I guess that means it was working. Location is pretty far for me, but I was told it was my fault for living outside the loop hah! It's pricey for those of us that can't make it more times during the week. Observations: Holy hell that first class was hard! But I've been back a few times so I guess I didn't hate it. The types of classes are not posted online or disclosed beforehand to keep people from picking and choosing their workouts and force them to try different things when they arrive. I just moved to Houston and I've been looking for a new gym. I was really excited about this place based on their instagram. I'm used to orange theory so I thought it would be similar. After I checked in the girl behind the desk gave me and two other girls a very quick intro in the studio. I'm used to treadmills where walking is 3.5-4.0 ish and jogging is 6.0 and running is higher. Their treads are calibrated so differently than any other tread I've used. No one told me that. When it came to running I clicked 6.0 and it was walking pace slow so I clicked higher and almost fell off. No one next to me offered to help explain. There's very little room on the floor. It's hard to follow the instructor. The instructor doesn't come around and there were no modifications. It's five mins on the tread then you switch which felt chaotic, but that's my own opinion. You share a station with someone and there's no wipes in between--I was sharing a station with a guy dripping sweat on the ground (completely understandable) but then I have to go to the floor and there's no wiping down your station in between. As a newbie I didn't feel very welcomed. The other people in the class weren't very friendly. I bought a "2 for 1" into class for $34 and probably won't be back for my second one. read more

Ana & Jordan have done a fantastic job and providing a fun workout environment that becomes family. All the instructors are BEASTS who push you and pump you to be your absolute best. There are two locations in Houston, so you have options on which studio and then options for early bird or late owl classes. Both locations offer showers with everything if you need to shower after. Awesome HIIT workout class, great for someone who doesn't really know how to workout in a regular gym or who lacks motivation. To start, the facility feels really clean and new. On your first visit, you get a tour of the place and a run down on how the class works + how to use the treadmill. Each class has a mix of cardio and strength training using weights. I love the music that keeps you pumped (feels like you're working out in a club lol). The instructor gives you options to make the workout more challenging or easier. I've gone to 3 classes now and it's becoming my favorite workout class! read more

As an avid Orangetheory Fitness member, and also someone who has been to Barry's a handful of times, I would place SWEAT in the middle of the two as it relates to intensity. As for experience, SWEAT ranks at the top! I really enjoyed the quick, impactful intervals, going back and forth between the treadmill and floor/weights. It really helped to pass the time quickly. High energy, friendly feel, catchy vibe are the three things that come to mind when I think about Sweat 1000. I came across this facility from a Facebook ad. They are located right in the heart of the heights, it's nestled in a nice cozy area. Parking can be a bit snug but luckily I never had a problem finding a spot. The really cool thing too is that they have a security guard monitoring the area and keeping your car safe. Upon entering you get a juice bar vibe and you aren't too sure what to expect. It's like you can see that there is a room for the workouts but you aren't quite sure what to expect because the windows are tinted out from allowing others to look inside. Before every class, you get checked in and wait in the lobby area. At that point, you can stretch if you like, chat with others, or order a smoothie/ protein drink/ or whatever they offer. I honestly am not sure what they sell because I wasn't really given an introduction about it and no one really brought it up. Although, I know they do have water for purchase or you can just bring a water bottle and they have filtered water from the fountain for free. They even have free workout towels so you don't have to bring your own. The workouts are an hour and are very high intensity with half cardio and half strength training. The music would have to be my favorite part of it all though. Between the dark strobe/ glow in the dark lighting AND the amazing sound system, you would think that you've entered in a dance party. I won't lie there were a few times where I just wanted to stop and dance BUT I fought through the urge. Back to the workout piece though... I especially love that you rotate between both about every 10 or 15 minutes. This was perfect for me because after a while I get extremely bored on a treadmill. So, this allowed me to move around before my "I'm bored kicked in." I really enjoyed how pumped the trainers were as well. From Marcellus providing modifications on certain routines to Thomas shouting out, "DONT STOP YOU'RE ALMOST THERE" right when you are two seconds of giving in, definitely keeps you motivated, pumped, and eager to keep pushing through. I truly enjoyed all of the trainers. Although, I would say my second favorite part about coming here would be the cool towels with essentials oils given to you at the end. All in all, I am glad I got to experience this gym because it really gave me a serious workout. I wish I could attend more again but it is honestly not in my little teacher budget. Although, I would still highly recommend everyone to try it out. They would surely change your life and most importantly fall in love all over again with working out. read more

Really great work out for an overall body toning session with cardio. It's interval training using treadmills and dumbbells. It's more toning than strength which is perfect for my wedding dress bod! The staff are all super nice and they have towels and cold towels after class. Super clean bathrooms with two showers in the women's. I'm assuming it's the same for the guys. Try it out. Five classes in and I can say I'm a fan - and I'm seeing the results. These are 60-minute workouts that are a formula of treadmill intervals mixed with floor exercises. Floor exercises vary from light weights, kick boxing, Step 360 stability trainer. Treadmill speeds and inclines vary according to your pace - walkers, joggers and runners. I'll admit, I'm a longtime runner on actual terrain, so it took a few classes for me to get used to the treadmill speeds (I def have fallen into their "walker" category a time or two.) I think Victoria M's review describes it best - it's what got me committed to checking them out. It's taken some getting used to. I'm more of a yogi, trail runner and gym rat - I never fully enjoyed HIIT training. It makes me slightly anxious and I don't see the fun in it. However, I know HIIT training will get me to those "bod goals," so here I am! And I actually enjoy these classes. I like the instructors (so far I've taken classes with Ana, Jordan and Frank - check out their instagrams linked on their websites and be "like whoa."). And I feel energized after each class. I've enjoyed the classes so much, the S.O. is now a fan and it's kinda all we've been talking about lately. My advice for first-timers is to wear moisture wicking clothes, bring a water bottle (refill station and towels are provided), and go at your own pace - even if it's slower than the set "walker" pace - but still push yourself. Don't over do it - you want to be able to go back! (At least that's what I kept telling myself when I took my first class.) Classes are $35 each - there isn't a monthly membership but you can save some dollars if you buy class packages. I can't make this a daily routine, but if I nix a few happy hour bar tabs, I can certainly take a few classes each week. Note: Newbies, your first class is free - or you can opt for a 5-day pass for $35 (that's what I did and was able to make it at least 3 times before that 5-day period was up). Amenities include: showers, lockers, water bottle refill station, parking, wifi, vanity station in ladies room (hair ties, blow dryer, cotton balls, etc) Kudos to the company for stepping up to help the community after Hurricane Harvey. During their build-out phase, Sweat 1000 served as a donation spot for Houston PetSet. The place was filled to the brim with pet supplies. I tried out sweat 1000 for the first time about a year and a half ago. At first, I was a bit nervous knowing that I hadn't done much cardio based workouts during that time. Afterwards, I remember thinking to myself that that the workout was one of (if not, the hardest) workout I've ever done. It was very challenging yet so motivating that I fell in love with it from day 1. At first, I was not as consistent, but as I started taking more classes and getting to know the trainers and their styles I enjoyed it even more. This place is not just a fitness studio, but a place that builds community and brings people together. The trainers, owners, and front desk staff get to know you by name fairly quickly (huge plus for me) and they are always extremely positive and upbeat. Abby has been a huge motivator and continued to cheer me on during my at home workouts when gyms were not open. Ana and Jordan have been very welcoming and continue to encourage you throughout their workouts and push you to reach past your fitness goals. Spencer's workout intensity and positive affirmations make for a very challenging yet rewarding workout. Vanessa always has the best music and her workouts make you want to dance as you lift weights or run on the treadmill. I've come to classes after work (around 4pm) and right before work in the early hours of 5am and the vibe is always upbeat and exciting no matter what time of the day you go. While you are in the room you feel like you can really just let go and be in the moment. They also have great music playlists as well which is also a huge thing for me. All in all I'd say this place has not only been a great fitness community for me, but the Sweat family has helped me get through some of my hardest days and for that, I am forever grateful and appreciative. Hmm...for luxury boutique this misses the bar. This place is in a great location and has high energy instructors which is the best part as well as the free coffee :) the set up is just like orange theory or empower with one side of cardio and one of weight lifting with a more South African feel. The equipment I found to be middle of the road. I perfer woodway treadmills or the like for boutique places. Also the mats and weights were below par for the 'luxury claim'. Also the treadmill is in kilometers since this is a South African brand. Hmmm...wasn't a fan... I have tried a lot of workout classes, and I think this is the best in Houston if you are looking to burn calories and get in shape. A way better workout than indoor cycling in my opinion. The class is structured so that you're never on the treadmill more than about 6 minutes (Hallelujah!). During those 5-6 minutes, you will do speed and incline intervals. The pace varies depending on your fitness level, and it's always modifiable. Between treadmill intervals, you're on the floor doing resistance training of some sort. Usually there is a low or high deck with weights. Sometimes weighted bars, BOSU balls, TRX, Step360s or boxing are thrown into the mix to keep things interesting. You finish the class with a few all-out sprints. I have been doing this class since March of 2018 (sometimes more consistently, sometimes only a few times a month) and I have noticed a changed in my endurance, strength, and body composition. If you really focus on your nutrition as well and come consistently 3 times a week, I have no doubt that you would see amazing results. The only negative is that sometimes the classes don't start right on time, and the cool down isn't included in the hour, so I can sometimes be there longer than expected. Keep this in mind if you're in a hurry to get somewhere afterwards. Oh, and it's expensive, but worth it in my opinion. read more

Wow, guys- please observe the lack of professionalism displayed by both the owner and the individual clearly linked to the owner. Let's discuss expectations since this is what was initially called out by the owner- I expect a place that promotes being fit to promote proper form and safety. Teaching others to used the same weights to activate muscles of different sizes is absolutely unsafe. Dropping weight fast should not be the primary objective of a workout facility- especially if this weight is mainly water (hence the name of the business being "Sweat 1000"). The focus should be the attainment of a healthy lifestyle and strenght. Yelp is a forum where we discuss our experience with a business in an open environment. Not get bullied or strong armed or discredited because the truth hurts. As for me "picking on small business" this claim is absolutely baseless. 1- I candidly share my experience with businesses of all types indiscriminately just as I expect other yelpers to do when they share their experiences 2- Since you mention small businesses- when I look at the small businesses I have reviewed those that I have raved about, I go to all the time (half a dozen + check ins)! Such as Maba, Curtis at Studio 31, Julissa at Renude, Washington Gym (where they actually do show you how to work out, PROPER form, and NO TREADMILLS!). The reason you are on a treadmill is because it helps push you harder by maintaining your Pace the entire workout. While also allowing you to increase the workout intensity of increasing the incline. The reason I gave it five stars is because the moment I walked in I could feel the positive vibes and the friendly atmosphere the staff provided for me. The class was intense and they helped push me even thou by the end my legs felt like a baby deer...lol never thought I would get such a great workout with only using 15lbs and 10lbs. This review reflects the bizarre exchange I unfortunately experienced with the self doting owner, Ana. I've frequented this studio more times than I can count over the past year+ and brought numerous friends along the way. I've used credits with class pass and have walked in last minute paying a one time $30 fee. With that being said, let's just say I was dumbfounded when this woman decided I was the one she wouldn't allow into a class I booked via class pass. Important to note, I was attempting to sign in as ppl were just walking into the studio. Should you be using class pass at this establishment just know you're a second class citizen when compared to their clients that book directly with them. Today was THE day she decided to enforce a class pass policy that says they have the right to give your spot away should you not check in 10 min before start time (completely ridiculous bc when booking directly this policy doesn't apply). This also means not only do they have the right to take your class pass credits/money they also are able to fill your spot to collect twice. This "policy" has never been implemented until this overzealous owner decided to take customer service into her own hands and fail miserably due to her arrogance. Based on her unprofessional and condescending language during our exchange I will never be back. I would never feel comfortable putting another dime in her pocket. I more so left fuming bc of her laziness to split the class up (by this I mean they are able to take on more clients when having some ppl start on the floor and have the others warm up on treads) to accommodate as many ppl as possible. Whomever shares ownership should truly address this high and mighty attitude of this woman. Perhaps a more silent role suits her. Another suggestion would be to wait 5 minute before giving away spots due to the fact ppl will be late occasionally if getting stuck by a train due to their location. My review has nothing to do with the gym itself, but it does have to do with their racist parking attendant who screamed at me, called me a b**** and told me f*** y**. Quick back story, I came to this parking lot to go to snooze with my family, since last time we had gone there, there was no problem whatsoever nor was it a rule at the time that snooze customers could not park there. We get to the parking lot and only I got off to make a quick check in at snooze and on my way the attendant approches me and says in such a rude tone " where are you going!?" I looked at him crazy because never have we seen each other for him to be approaching me that way. When I tell him snooze, he snaps back saying "private property", private property what? Snooze, what?. He then says "you can't park here. Private propert." So I start to say okay where can we park, he doesn't let me finish and quickly snaps saying "anywhere but here" like a territorial child. By this point I'm really mad at the way he's speaking to me so I decide to walk past him when he says "I'm gonna tow your car" I replied back saying there's people in there, a white couple who had just parked in the same lot was walking towards snooze he then proceeds to scream at me saying "I'M GONNA TOW YOUR CAR!" And I yelled at him back saying there's people in there. On my way back from snooze to move the car I told him he shouldn't yell at people and he quickly said "fuck you, bitch". I called Sweat and they handed the phone off to a manager who proceeded to say so kindly that that was indeed his property and that he rents out to nearby places... He then says that he is sorry that I was treated the way I was, that he was gonna get a warning, and that he is not trying to justify the attendants actions but I should had probably not stayed and should probably pull over to the side of the road and check in. This was one of those situations where you don't know what people are going through so you really should watch what you say, we had a toddler in the car who gets car sick from time to time and had thrown up as we were turning on to 18th street, as soon as we parked, my sister started to change her clothes while I checked in at snooze. I really love this fitness studio. To give some context, I've tried many fitness offerings in the area, including HIIT places like SWEAT1000 (orange theory, Barry's Bootcamp, Revolution), regular gyms (24, LA, Equinox, the Preserve), yoga studios (YogaWorks, BSY), and spin studios (RYDE). Amenities: Outstanding, comparing very favorably against the likes of Equinox and Barry's Bootcamp. The changing rooms, bathrooms, and showers are very clean and spacious. Equipment: Excellent. Compared to Barry's Bootcamp and orange theory, there's more floor space per person, and all the weights (+medicine ball, resistance band) are laid out in front of you. You don't have to waste time grabbing weights from the wall like other HIIT studios. Also, the treadmills & weights use the metric system (a win for science). Instructors/Staff: Friendly, fit, and helpful. Jordan (an instructor and Houston franchise owner with his wife) spent 30-60 minutes my first time and talked to me 1-on-1 about my personal fitness goals and strategies I could use in the gym. Community: This is hard to say since the studio is new to me, but the clientele generally seem cool. I believe the studio hosts socials every month or so. Overall, it's a great fitness studio. It's a little far for me from the Museum District, but I plan to come here every month or so. read more
