Found them at the former Chi-Chans Okazuya location at Kaneohe. It's for takeout, no tables inside…read more They do have a nice selection of comfort food like pancit, pork or chicken adobo, dinuguan, pork guisantes, lumpia, and desserts as well. They also have packaged snacks they sell too. Greeted immediately by the guys behind the counter, my daughter and I already knew what we wanted, so we got the fried rice adobo, pork adobo and pancit to go. When I say comfort food, after one bite I was brought back to when I was little and my mom making these for us. I'm looking forward to going back and trying their other offerings. It's good to have a Filipino food spot in Kaneohe instead of driving all the way down to the Leeward side. Visit them and try it out for yourselves.

Lunch in Kaneohe, Oahu, Hawaii…read more.. While driving along Alaloa Street, passing Windward Mall, I noticed a food truck with a lot of people around it. Thinking that there must be Good Grindz there, I made a U-turn and parked behind the truck. YumYum TumTum is usually in Waimanalo (by Bellows), but on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, they're across from The Plaza at Kaneohe. Service is excellent. The two workers in the truck are very personable with the "aunties and uncles". They inform each customer about the ten to twelve minute wait-time since each order is made fresh! Because the Pancit was sold out (and the banana lumpia), I ordered the Garlic Rib Eye Steak... whoa... Da buggah was Beeg!!! I couldn't finish it! Made with the "secret special rub", the Garlic chips and onions were Broke da Mouth! The meat was tender and juicy! I enjoyed the koge edges of charred fat! Mmm! I should have ordered the BBQ chicken skewers, too... and the halohalo... welll... I'll just have to return... And go earlier before the Pancit runs out!!!

This place has been here a long time. Its right off the main highway right next to 711…read more It an old style drive inn. Parking is in the front and back (maybe 15 spots). There is an old skool walk up ordering window that you order through. There is a dining area to the side of the window. It used to be an inclosed open patio and used to have a roof but now its more of an outside dining area half shade half sun. It's cool they have some scripture painted on the wall too. The kitchen is all screened in to prevent flies from coming into the kitchen so you know the food is safe. The food is your typical plate lunch burger fare. (Pic of menu) The portions are fair to huge and are a decent value. The food was good and the staff was cool. The only thing is...and I hope the owner or staff is reading this. I don't know why but there a lot of flies outside maybe from other issues close by I know it didnt effect the safety of the food but Please buy one of those fly bag traps From home depot to reduce flies outside. I think it would go a long way with aesthetics when dining outside!! Good safe food...fair pricing..good portions just control the flies outside.

I spent my next-to-last day in Hawaii traveling by car towards the Windward side of the island. The…read moreplan was to take a hike along the way to the coast and then just meander the various spots of gorgeousness of the coastline of that part of the island. The hike worked up my appetite, and so I searched Yelp for nearby places to grab a lunch. I had already been to Kailua, and so this time I wanted to work my way through rural Waimanalo Beach. One of the most interesting places that came up on my search was Keneke's. It served local food and had great reviews, and so I plugged it into my Apple Maps and headed to Waimānalo. My first impression of Keneke's was that it felt more like a place you'd find in the rural countryside of a Caribbean island or Latin American country. I hadn't seen that in Hawaii until I came across Keneke's. You know, the type of place that's been around for years and draws people from far and wide for their good, home-cooked food. As you can see from the picture of Keneke's, the red on the walls makes the place stand out, but everything else about it was a bit confusing. There were two or three windows to place your order...a walk-up kind of place, but it was hard to tell which one to approach. They had old-fashioned wood-frame screens over the windows, which were hard to see through, looking from the sunlight into darkness. And no one called out to me as I stood there, either. It wasn't until a woman inside one of the windows opened the screen and yelled out a customer's name, some young guy playing a ukulele, that I knew where to order. I stepped back from the window as she handed him his food. Finally, she asked me for my order. The woman was very businesslike, and not friendly at all. I placed my order, my first Hawaiian "Loco Moco" with a Dr. Pepper. I waited quite a while for my name to be called from inside the simple concrete, dining room. It was nice and shady, but there were a couple of pesky little flies looking for food. Even though the place was kind of icky and the people weren't so friendly, I was still looking forward to the Loco Moco. You could tell the food would be good from the activity. The place was busy the whole time I was there, so I knew the food was going to be fresh and good. Wow! And I say that in both a good way and a bad way! For those of you who don't know, Loco Moco consists of two hamburger patties served with an egg over white sticky rice and mac salad, all smothered in sumptious brown gravy. Delicious, but a heart attack waiting to happen! You see, good and bad. In all seriousness, the Loco Moco was fresh and tasty, but it was very filling and I couldn't even finish it, which is a shame. Tip: order the Small size! In the end, and knowing what to expect, I'd still stop back at Keneke's. Their food was delicious snd they had an extensive menu. Who knows, maybe next time I'll try their "two quarter-pound deluxe cheeseburgers." Or maybe I'll just have the salad.

Yay!!! Kailua has a food truck event! Finally. So if I fall asleep or sound drowsy it's cause I/we…read moreoverdid it, and now have that "I over ate and now need a nap" syndrome. We were so excited to have a food event come to Kailua that we bought a lot. I've forgotten some of the vendors that were there........The ones that I can remember were: Shogunai Fairy Cakes (no they weren't dressed up this time) Chicago Eats Thai Loco Foods Tats Shave Ice Xtreme Tacos Puffettes Egg Puffs Soul Lanikai Shrimp Truck & and an ice cream truck Hawaiian Soljahs is a youth baseball team and this is their fundraiser.......and they also have a booth with canned soda ($1.00), bottled water, and hot chocolate w/whipped cream. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/WOCyhWNFxAlsl36loEVQVw?select=w7nmXIgqM_8tTZDUOLsLiA Enchanted Lake Elementary School had their own booth, selling Rice Krispie treats, shortbread, beef sticks, & Cookie Corner cookies. They were also taking orders for their Easter Imu pit !@ $20. BTW, they also do a Thanksgiving imu. It's a fund raiser for the 4th Grade Big Island trip. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/WOCyhWNFxAlsl36loEVQVw?select=zB5WSLoBZ39KybDCMjZleA http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/WOCyhWNFxAlsl36loEVQVw?select=6iI-QUWMxnx5kpb4j-XkcQ So many choices that it was hard making up our minds. I love gyros so we were looking @ Chicago Eats, and someone ordering told us she was from Chicago, and the food tasted just like the food in Chicago (deep dish pizza, Chicago hot dogs, etc.). I ordered the gyro, and my husband ordered the hot dog. Next time it'll be the deep dish pizza. Even the kiddie pizza looked delish! I bought cupcakes, a lemon bar and carrot cake from Fairy Cakes. My husband bought a spicy ahi poke bowl w/brown rice which was fantastic. At another vendor we bought a sampler slider (set of 3; steak, meatloaf and veggie) http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/WOCyhWNFxAlsl36loEVQVw?select=Af1EahdCOhh3GV94oXS6bg There's always room for dessert, and I bought bread pudding which, thankfully, was very light http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/WOCyhWNFxAlsl36loEVQVw?select=7o6gUL-qE-JeYiZw8l_a_w I can't remember the names of those food trucks....so if you recognizes the food let me know!! Today the hours were from 4-8. There were are a few stalls in the lot, but more on the street because there was basketball going on. The food trucks and tents are right in front of the cafeteria so there's lot of seating and no worries if it should rain. And no.....we did not eat all of that. We have leftovers for a midnight snack ;) ('ll post more pics later on when I come out of my food stupor.) Yelp 365 Challenge: #42/365

I am loving this food truck trend…read more Wife and I were starving after a hard workout and needed some quick grinds. Luckily for us we rolled upon this event at Enchanted Lake Elementary. Wife went to the 5-0 Ribs truck and got, well, the ribs. Tasty and tender. She also gave me a sample of the brisket which tasted like some kinda meat heaven. The guys at the 5-0 Ribs truck were sooo friendly with great service. I went to the We're Cooking Fresh For You Truck and got the steak with pesto on brown rice and salad plate. It was actually quite healthy and had a nice side of fresh apple and pineapple slices. Fun events aside from food. Drag racing cars revving their engines. Live music. Dancing. Basket hoop games. Great place for kids. Then our demons came out. We went to the Aloha on Wheels Truck and got the dreaded...The breaded..... DEEP FRIED SNICKERS WITH BACON on a stick So much for working out. I can't finish this review without commentary on the name. Perhaps my mind is more twisted than most, but why name an event that sounds like you made it to 3rd base on your date with a woman named Kailua? Dining Out with Friendly Food Trucks and Drag Racers with Dancing In Enchanted Lakes. Fix'd.

All I can say is that this Plate was epic in each and every way. The Korean Fried Chicken was Super Crispy and Tasty. The Ahi Poke was Ono and those Kalbi Fries..Amazing!!! Those Crispy Crinkle Fries topped with Shreds of Kalbi were a match made in Heaven. Those Crinkle Fries really stole the show. I absolutely love Crispy Crinkle Fries when they are cooked perfectly. And of course I had to have Mac Salad with this Plate. There's a reason why Flyin' Ahi Lunch Wagon has a following. Not only is their Menu amazing but the Local Braddah taking your order is one of the nicest guys around . No matter how busy they get this guy's service and attitude is top notch. He's also very accommodating when it comes to making the Plate Lunch to your own specifications and to me that says a lot.
