Lunch in Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i... Located in the parking lot, next to the Hygienic Store, Nome Ono Food, is a relatively new Food Truck. It was a rainy, overcast day, and the unpaved parking lot was muddy and wet. There was a tarped area with picnic tables and benches, but we didn't want to stay and eat because of the flies. I think there would be feral chickens if it wasn't raining. We both ordered Steak Fried Rice ($18 cash only) from the cheerful, helpful man. The food came out really hot in the takeout container. Luckily, I had a towel so that my niece could hold our meals on her lap in the car without getting burned. The fragrance of the food was delicious! It was torture driving to Windward Mall! We couldn't wait to find a table in air conditioning and sit down! We both dove into our containers. Everything looked good and had yummy flavor. Too bad the steak was a bit chewy from the gristle. Maybe next time, we should share a crab fried rice for $29? read more

There's only 1 guy working and totally crushed it (in a good way). Looked up local food trucks nearby that sells fresh shrimp plate lunches near Kaneohe, and this one popped up and looked bomb. Totally worth it and would tell all my local friends and fam about this place because the food was that ono!!! We ordered the steak fried rice, the garlic shrimp and chicken plate, the coconut shrimp, and the Hawai'i chop steak plate. All fireeeeeee!!! About $18/each. Cash only! Support this local braddah. He doesn't say much, all business, but his food speaks volumes. My favorite was the fried rice, so tasty and garlicky, it was hard to put down my fork. Mahalo Nome Ono!! Last but not least, the location is situated right off a roundabout next to a HUGE banyan tree, and has views of the valley with picture perfect palm trees overlooking the Ahuimanu stream inlet. Couldn't have been a more enjoyable experience! The only con was the flies that swarmed around our food were a bit annoying, so had to keep shoo-Ing them off..but at least there weren't mosquitos. After seeing their positive reviews, decided to drive out from Kaneohe to Kahaluu to the hygienic store where they are located. Yelp said they were open & their site mentioned they were open till 5pm. It was 3pm & I got there & they were closed. Want to order their garlic shrimp & steak fried rice! The fried rice with steak was chef kiss*. I was hesitant but don't let them fool you. It was a bit on the salty side but literally every bite was just so flavorful. The fried rice itself was goopy but I love it! It reminds me of when I cook at home. The steak was crazy tender and flavorful. Like I said, it was a bit on the saltier side but it wasn't unbearable. EVERY BITE was FLAVORFUL. It was close to closing and 7 of us came at once. Uncle cooked diligently! The place seems like it's in a dirty spot but you just gotta appreciate it. It's right next to a beautiful lake and tall mountainsz I'll give it a 9/10 will buy again. P.s buy the steak fried rice and add shrimp. That is something they should add. read more

Stopped by after visiting the Byodo temple. At first sight, food didn't look amazing but tasted good. You can taste the cornstarch in it but has good flavor. I've had Giovanni's garlic shrimp and this had more flavor and the shrimps were bigger and juicier. Just wished the shell was removed but it's ok. There are a lot of flies so beware. read more

My other half introduced me to this truck because his friend put him onto the garlic and spicy shrimp plates and we've been fans ever since. Nome Ono is unique in the sense of shrimp size (big), portion size (can't finish an entire plate), and flavor (I think they put a splash of heavy cream in the butter sauce for that yummy creaminess). Oh, and did I mention, the cook on the shrimp is always perfect every time I went there. No stuck shells or overcooked shrimp around here! The Famous Kahuku Shrimp truck used to be my fave, but it seems like their shrimp size has gotten skimpier and their spicy sauce flavor/heat level isn't consistent. If you want to try a shrimp plate that you don't have to drive all the way to north shore for and you're open to a creamier and saucier garlic shrimp plate, give this place a try. Cash only. We saw this place roadside on the way to Kualoa Ranch, and decided we'd stop by after we were done with our tour. Absolutely blown away by the coconut shrimp plate. It was a little oily, but had the right amount of batter, and satisfying crispy crunch. The accompanying mac salad had the perfect creaminess to it too, making it one of the best ones I've had on the island. I'd say the rice was a bit lacking since the top layer had slightly hardened (from being out I presume?). They take cash only. It's also not hard to miss since it's surrounded by other food trucks, with some shaded outdoor bench seating. Parking can also be a bummer if it's crowded. Absolutely try this! read more

Sorry, I don't like leaving bad reviews but I felt kind of ripped off. The steak wasn't steak, looked and tasted like beef broccoli beef, thin shavings in oyster sauce or something. My friend and I go to Church at Calvary Chapel and she always talks about the steak plate. I've only heard of the the steak plate for more than two years. Today on our way to another place to get food I happened to turn my head and see Nome Ono Food open. Needless to say we turned around. CASH ONLY Atmosphere: Food Truck with outdoor covered seating. Service: Great service and very friendly. Food: The steak plate $15 was so delicious!! It was worth every penny and it had veggies too. Today he didn't have mac salad. That's fine with me. I'm personally not a fan of Mac salad. I gave 4 stars because he isn't always open between our services. It would be great to get food there before second service. Forget any other shrimp truck on the islands. This is hands down the best. I have taken multiple visitors here after having gone to the other big player on the island and every guest has agreed that Nome Ono is the best. No competition.
