Went there for the 1st time this evening and wow, what an experience! The young guy who took the order was professional and tried his best but he wasn't the problem. The problem was the cook (an older man). When I received my order ( 5 orders) I opened every container to make sure I received my order correctly. My Chicken Katsu was raw. Yuck. When I pointed it out the cook was not happy. He ordered the front help to throw it away and I also told him I was missing one macaroni salad and then he came out to the front to check my orders himself. We exchanged a few words all the while he was giving me the death stare. He walked away and kicked the entrance to the kitchen door. He went back to redo my order. There front help apologized over and over and I told them it wasn't a big deal to make a mistake but it was wrong on how the cook handled it. As we began our order we were greeted by a rude young lady, but working in fast food can suck I'm sure so we didn't let it stop our excitement for a good meal. You would expect this from a place like in & out or chick fil a but there were like 8 cars... so we proceeded to get through like half a season on Netflix before finally getting to the window. So I decided to go to the new Ono's in town since it had a drive thru. I thought this would be more convenient. Since we are in this Pandemic and I had a craving for some Katsu chicken let's give it a try. The drive thru wait was horrible. I was in that line forever. I did admire the lavender plants while I was waiting but that did not calm me down. Maybe that's why they grew those there specifically for that purpose. This location since its opening is an absolute and utter mess, from food quality, to its horrible excuse for a staff, to the facilities consistently being a perfect breeding ground for a worldwide pandemic virus and then there's the lack of decorum amongst a single employee. This location not only is horrible to get to, simply because their parking lot of the actual strip mall is a headache when the state of California is not under a governor executive order to shelter-in-place, but it's always a headache experience. I'm born and raised in Hawaii, travel often and when I find Local cuisine from home, I try it out. More times than not, the simple flavors and menu items that take little to no brain power, nail it. Unlike the other Manteca location, which NAILS food, service and quality with beautiful ample parking - this specific location is better to be skipped in the faint hope that it soon ceases to exist given the nation's economic climate. I've been here several times, in an array of times and days throughout the week when supplies would not be stocked, such as katsu sauce (which no katsu sauce in a katsu servicing facility is the same as a women's restaurant without toilet paper), straws, drink lids, napkins, etc and I can visibly see them in their storage facility. The restaurant is empty so why are these things not stocked? At noon? On a business day? When inquiring, I got lack of an answer and ignorant region specific attitude. The final straw with this God-awful location is when I tried to make a pick up phone order given dining out has been suspended due to COVID-19's WORLDWIDE PANDEMIC. This location has a drive thru that would help to foster the STATE OF CALIFORNIA's SOCIAL DISTANCING MANDATE in lieu of walking into a facility filled with people I don't know and put myself and them at risk. I got told that using the drive thru is against company policy, which is fine because the reasonably prudent person would be able to comprehend that drive thru orders AND phone pick up orders could clog the drive thru. But, COMPANY POLICY should be suspended when the entire world is avoiding person to person contact and your food providing facility has the ability to FOSTER STATE MANDATE HEALTH RECOMMENDATIONS BY ALLOWING USE OF THE DRIVE THRU. I had to inquire again that why would I walk into an EMPTY RESTAURANT when I could use the EMPTY DRIVE THRU WHICH I COULD SEE FROM WHERE I WAS LOCATED, I got told no, I had to come through the front door. I asked why if they realized that made no sense and if they understood that food vendors across the nation were having to change and innovate in hopes of not going out of business, I got told no and to come inside. I understand that company policy supersedes individual employee foresight over things like this, but the simple notion that I would have to risk my health by physically being present in a space when that can be avoided due to (again, EMPTY*) drive thru makes literally no sense to the reasonably prudent mind. This is on the curtails of the location and company giving one entree plate out for free for the purchase of one, which screams economic worry, so hopefully your inability to change your BUSINESS AS USUAL MODEL AND METHODS in a time of economic worry doesn't lead to shutting doors permanently. Avoid this location, far from anything related to the Hawaiian archipelago or its cuisine and your appetite would be better served literally anywhere else. Me and my boyfriend always come here but most of the time we're really tempted because of the staff and how the last couple visits have been. The owner here really needs to take consideration of who's in charge, who's the manager and also hiring manager because there are a lot of kids working here who do not pertain to their job and duties that they should. My boyfriend always has to consistently repeat a order because they don't listen and they're always talking in the background playing around and even has to triple check to make sure our orders are taken correctly because they never tend to listen to how we'd like our order made. It's kind of frustrating because we really like the food but have the catch them on certain days when the "Kids" of the staff aren't here messing around and not being considerate not serving customers correctly. This is something that should be taken serious, this establishment could be so much more if they hired actual adults and people who took their job serious.
