I'd give the cleanliness a 7/10 because while the dining area was well maintained and air conditioned, the sauce bar was a bit messy. Not a huge issue, but enough to notice. I also like the self-order kiosks. They're a great option if you have social anxiety or simply prefer not to order at the counter, while still giving you the choice to order from a cashier if you want that person-to-person interaction. The cashier wasn't rude, but she also wasn't very friendly. She seemed like she just didn't want to be there, which I understand it's a job, and everyone has off days. Still, friendly service makes a difference, and it's one reason I couldn't rate this place higher. I've been to smaller local restaurants where the staff are incredibly welcoming, and that really enhances the overall experience. As for the food, it was good and consistent. The portions felt fair for the price, and I honestly think one plate is enough for two people to share, depending on your appetite. Everything looked well prepared, nothing was overcooked or dry, and it tasted fresh. Wait time wasn't too bad either under 10mins. They also had lunch specials available, but since I didn't order one this visit, I can't really comment on the value of those. Overall, I think 3 stars is fair. I had an excellent experience at the MANTECA Ono Hawaiian BBQ THANKS to Manager MARISA I accidentally placed an online order for the Modesto location, and when I contacted the Modesto store, they were unable to help :/ Since I was already in Manteca and couldn't drive all the way to Modesto to pick up the order, I was very frustrated. Marisa went above and beyond to assist me. She took the time to understand the situation and helped me get a refund for the order, even though it had been placed at a different location. Her professionalism, kindness, and willingness to help turned a stressful situation into a positive experience. Outstanding customer service like this is rare, and Marisa truly deserves recognition. This place was a disappointment. We ordered the chicken katsu combo meal. All of the meats were dry and hard. They were not tender and juicy. I replaced my macaroni salad for the island spring mix salad for an additional $.25. The salad had no dressing. I would have liked to have been informed about that before I ordered it. The rice felt mushy and overcooked. The macaroni salad was ok. The place is big and has lots of seating. Came here for a restroom stop and decided to get some snackies for the road. Ordered spam musubi (comes with two) for a quick and easy hand held bite. Although there was no one inside the restaurant, there were a lot of orders from the Drive Thru. So it took a little while to get my order, but it was worth the wait. The spam musubis came out fresh and hot. Definitely was made to order and delicious. Definitely satisfied my snack craving. Grateful for this spot right off the 99 freeway with clean and large bathrooms. As a new mom, I have been making notes everywhere, and this one had no changing table in the bathroom for babies. This is the second time I've tried Ono Hawaiian BBQ. The previous time the people were friendly and ready. I apparently, caught them in the middle of a conversation and they didn't seem to care that much. I ordered the Island White Fish mini meal. The person at the counter called my number after about ten minutes and he didn't wait to hand me the food. Another customer mentioned that he dropped that just when he called the number. He remembered that I mentioned chopsticks and brought some to me at the counter. I'm not sure why he put "to go" on the order but he seemed to do that regardless. The food was as good as the location on the west side. While you don't have to be a rocket scientist, you have to pay attention and someone was paying attention. Four stars for the food, three stars for the service. It's not easy to walk there but there is a sidewalk, if you can find it. There are also EV chargers in the same lot. read more

I've come to this location a few times the past year because I always use the drive-thru. They communicate very clearly about how long the fish can take which I appreciate. I have never had an issue with an order whether I order on the app beforehand or in the drive-thru. The customer service is always great and the workers are very thorough and kind from my experience. Visited this restaurant today for the 1st time. We had tasted their food via a banquet that we had been to a few months ago. We remembered that we like what we had been served so we decided to try it tonight. We were literally right around the corner from it today. Glad we did. We each bought a 2 item plate. I just got home from a 14 hr work day and, unfortunately, cannot be bothered to go all the way back. So, I'll leave it here and hope for the best. I love coming here, my go-to is the short ribs. Usually it comes out great, good amount for the price we're paying. But tonight, my plate had 3 sad pieces of very small short ribs and 2/3 were burnt. I was definitely disappointed and not sure why they would think that's remotely acceptable to hand off to a customer. And I even sat and waited almost 15 minutes in drive thru for my food. My husband ordered kaulua pork and I had kali beef ribs. Both was much better than that other Hawaiian place. He liked the flavor of the pork with cabbage under the pork, instead of mixed in. It might honestly be salmonella poisoning, but the chicken was an off color when I got it in my box, like a grey color, and my cabbage had like dirt in it. I saw a small trail of what looked like sandy dirt on a leaf, and I crunched down on a small dirt clod, which just means it wasn't washed well enough when getting prepared for the food. Okay, this place is VERY hit or miss and, lately it has been MISSING the mark! Today, I ordered the seafood mix which is my go to dish there and, I was presented with food that literally looked like it was leftover from a previous order. NONE of the food was hot or warm, the chicken had the texture that it had been microwaved instead of thrown on the grill and, the shrimp were cold and old, the white fish was undercooked and oily. I am in severe agreement that the cooking staff needs to be retrained or, hire more managers because, I do see a lot of the times I've gone in that the manager is either not there or hiding.
