I'd like to share my experience at Ono Hawaiian barbecue on florin road and Franklin boulevard. I had a coupon mailed to my house Dubai one plate and get one free and let me tell you the price was reasonable and the plate was very healthy. The meat was super super tender with so much flavors and the rice was amazing as the salad. Roslyn the amazing cashier she greeted me with such kindness such beautiful smile had great public relations and very professional. I visited this restaurant for the first time last night. I received a buy one meal, get one free coupon in the mail and decided to try them out. Initially everything was fine. The cashier took our order and accepted the coupon. With the BOGO deal I only ended up paying about $15 bucks. Cool deal, I thought. We waited for our food and when it was ready the cashier said she over charged me for one of the meals. I explained that it was okay because I used a BOGO coupon and that meal was still of lesser value than the other meal that I was charged for. She proceeded to tell me that they wanted to give me a refund for the $2 dollars I was over charged and called a coworker over to complete the refund transaction. Once again, I told them it wasn't necessary because that meal was free with the coupon. The coworker started the transaction anyway and refunded $14 back to my debit card and then said I had to now pay for the second meal that was $12 bucks. I asked why I was being charged for a meal that was initially free and even showed him that I had the original receipt. He told me that I was only supposed to get the $2 back. We went back and forth for a while because he wouldn't even review the receipt and was very dismissive. The cashier who took my order even acknowledged that I used the BOGO coupon. I asked if I could atleast get the coupon back to use for another visit since I was charged for both meals. I was told that they wouldn't be able to give it back since it showed as redeemed in their system. What a shame. The food was actually very tasty and freshly prepared. The restaurant was clean and I liked the condiments bar. But if this is how they treat their customers, I am not sure if it is worth the headache to return. read more

Came here with a party of 8 for a "quick" meal, but service was very slow. Actually 3 of us got our meal quickly and the other 5 had to wait, which put us in a precarious position. Not sure if it was the influx of lunchtime patrons or the time it took to prepare the meal. I had the teriyaki chicken mini meal which was pretty good. Pieces were pretty large. I do like their macaroni salad. The meal comes with nice servicing of chicken, macaroni, salad and rice. you can either order and sit, or order and take out. Well...the service was friendly and helpful and efficient, so the 2 stars are completely for that. But, much of the food bordered on inedible, and it was not cheap (just under $40 for 2 people). We ordered a plate lunch with the BBQ chicken, and an Aloha plate with kalua pork and island fire chicken. The rice and macaroni salad were good, the salad that comes with the Aloha plate was fine. As for the rest: -Kalua pork consisted of 4 large, firm chunks of melded gristle and fat, devoid of flavor or moisture. I couldn't even pull each chunk apart to search for any edible bits. -BBQ chicken was OK, but very bland. Same with the island fire chicken. But, not awful. -The cabbage and broccoli were mostly raw, and lacked any seasoning. The cabbage included large chunks of cabbage core, and a few haphazardly torn leaves. This location wasn't too bad, I had the Island Fire chicken along with their Lava Shrimp but wasn't very impressed by it. I did finish the food and it was not bad for the price, but it just felt a little bland. I ended up ordering to go, so I haven't had the chance to look around too much but the location was relatively clean with nice staff. The island fire chicken wasn't spicy at all, and tasted very sweet. I was surprised since I thought it would be more spice leading, but it ended up being more sweet than expected. I had a similar experience with the shrimp, but the ingredients were cooked well. And everything was tasty, the freshness and flavor of the food was on point and everything was cooked to perfection. Delicious food and great coupons if you sign up for their email list. I always get the Kalua pork plate, which comes with rice, mac salad and cabbage plus a few pieces of broccoli, plus Spam musubi. If you order online, you can ask for your order at the left counter, while orders are taken on the right counter. Extra sauces plus to-go sauce containers are to the left of the to-go counter but on my most recent visit, the staff had packed everything I needed, including forks and napkins, no extra sauce necessary! I've been here a few times since their grand opening 2-3 years ago and it's been consistent, including friendly service. May is AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) month and it's the perfect time to try new places. Ono Hawaiian BBQ has a wide menu with different mixtures of your favorite plates. I ordered the BBQ & Katsu plate which came with three different meats. BBQ chicken, BBQ beef, and chicken katsu. It came with a side of rice and macaroni salad. ( I ordered another macaroni salad on the side which is pictured.) The plate size is the perfectly portioned for someone with a hungry appetite. I personally couldn't finish it all, but it was perfect size for my boyfriend. I enjoyed how there was an area to fill up with katsu sauce and another type sauce which I can't remember the name. I am a sauce type of person so I like when establishments offer it. My server's name was Anna I believe, and she was very nice and allowed me to take mt time with the menu which was appreciated My food came out very tasty and filling. When we arrived on a Monday evening we were greeted by the employee behind the cash register. This is a counter service restaurant so we walked up to the order counter and placed our orders. The containers were hot like fresh outta the grill. They were heavy too... generous portions! I had the Kalbi Short Ribs and hubby chose the Chicken & Beef Combo. The Kalbi had three large strips of short ribs... tasty and tender, not rubbery, and flavorful with that Korean style BBQ marinade. So 'Ono! ('ono with the okina -that little symbol before the word- means delicious in the Hawaiian language). Ono w/o that symbol is a fish in Hawaiian. Each "plate" came with 2 scoops of rice, a scoop of Hawaiian macaroni salad and a bed of veggies underneath all that meat. We also got a side order of Crab Rangoon (3-pcs). Ordered the special $8 for the new lava shrimp plate. Food was ready quickly upon ordering. Plate was filling due to a ton of rice. Shrimp tasted like salt and burnt onions.... Idk how thay makes lava flavor, but was a bit disappointed with the lack of spice and what salt and burnt onion flavors there were. Salad was decent, lettuce, carrots, red onion, edamame, black sesame seds and an asian dressing could use more dressing, but was fresh and gernerous portions. It's a 5/5 for the food and service. However, I want to write a caveat about the location. If you are not familiar with this area, then it can be apprehensive as it's in South Sacramento with a lot of unhoused wanderers. This restaurant is not somewhere I would want to sit down and eat. This is probably one of my favorite Hawaiian food location as their Katsu chicken is probably one of the largest I ever had in Sacramento. We got the katsu chicken which was yummy and crispy, BBQ pork or beef i forget (ribs?) which had good flavor but had a LOT of gristle which made 1 of the meat pieces only 50% edible. The BBQ chicken was really good and my fave. The salad was ok, I don't like raw onion in salads, but it was edible, likely won't get this again. The mac salad is yum as always. This meal is the perfect size. It comes with a small scoop of white rice, small scoop of macaroni salad, meat of choice & steamed vegetables. The so called " shrimp" didn't taste like shrimp and tasted like a mixture of different seafood together . The sushi tho was the best out of everything . I haven't been here since 3 years ago & it tasted way different from today , not sure if they changed owners but wouldn't go here again unless for affordable sushi . This location was just as good as the others. My most favorite thing about Ono is how there's no limit to the katsu sauce. Lol I had the chicken combo plate and they always give pretty big portions of food and it's fresh and tasty. Some seating was closed off at this location? I ordered the Kalbi short ribs plate and my fiancé ordered the Hawaiian BBQ Beef Plate (which I had before). Plate items come with two scoops of rice, scoop of macaroni salad and the meat. The meat was marinated with a sweet salty sauce and it was tender. Rice was nice and fluffy and their macaroni salad was just delectable. I wanted so much to like this place because I was *starving* - Unfortunately by the end of the experience I'd just lost my appetite :/ Ono Hawaiian Bbq is a chain of restaurants primarily located in California and Arizona. At least in Sacramento though, it's average ratings are lower than other Hawaiian options, like L&L, and I can definitely see why. The menu items are typically not good value for the amount of food you get. Prices are higher than the average for the area, but I personally felt that the quality was lower.. Maybe something to do with a potential change in management since reviews seemed better previously? I wanted to try the Hawaiian Bbq Plate ($15+tax) since it has variety of meats: Kalbi Ribs, Bbq Beef, and Bbq Chicken (I subbed this out with Katsu Chicken). When I tried to order this at the counter, the cashier, who was well-intentioned, had difficulty understanding that I wanted a substitution as well as in helping to redeem my gift card. I'm not quite sure why the price changed but for some reason, my total came out to be $1 more than through the app! Seeing this, I decided to just make the order online and avoid complicating things. As we were waiting for my order at one of the tables, I picked up my phone and had such a huge fright as I saw two ants crawling on the screen towards me T - T After inspecting the seating area, I saw another a few more clusters of ants scurrying on the seats and the wall! We did change tables afterwards but the new seating area was only a slight improvement- There were a couple of ant corpses on the wall and on the table (and somehow one even got into my to-go bag and came home with me), with a live one appearing every few minutes ;v; The wait for the food was somewhat long, despite the restaurant being empty- Though perhaps they'd accidentally forgotten about us since we switched to ordering in the app. I gotta admit, I think the combo meal looks great in the photo, but remembering back, everything was super underwhelming and at a lukewarm temperature.
