    Bbq mix plate
    Brandon N.

Nice take out spot for Hawaiian BbQ. I ordered the bbq mix plate. Pretty standard for any Hawaiian bbq joint to have this plate. First the good parts, I really liked the mac salad. I couldn't eat too much of it but it was tasty. The amount of meat was ok. Meat was all tender and cooked nicely for me. The parts that was eh for me was the rice was hard and too much on the dry side for me. I like sticky rice but it's just my preference. The rib that was provided was smaller and only had two bones. The bbq beef was ok a bit salty but normal for Hawaiian places imo. I'd try it again but I'd probably try a different plate.

    Garlic shrimp plate

I'm happy there's a Hawaiian eatery in Elk Grove that's not a chain. The first time I came here, got the garlic shrimp plate. The shrimp at the time were bigger and had shell at a reasonable price. The plate also comes with 2 scoops of rice, some cabbage and a side of macaroni salad all at $13.95 or around there. I came today and to my surprise the garlic shrimp plate went up in price, no more shell and you get more shrimp (12 pieces). It still comes with 2 scoops of rice and macaroni salad with the shrimp on a bed of cabbage. Really enjoyed my shrimp plate the first time around. Lots of flavor and reminded me of Hawaii, going to the North Shore, and waiting at the shrimp restaurants for my garlic butter shrimp. DQ comes a close second for mainland garlic butter shrimp. I'm rating this 3 stars for a somewhat downgrade in the garlic shrimp. No shell, and the shrimp appear smaller. Not as much garlic as before but flavor is still there. Unfortunately, the new garlic shrimp plate went up in price to $15.95. I'm ok with the price but didn't like that the shrimp size became smaller. Which would explain why there's more shrimp. I've tried their spam musubi which is good. I feel like you can't go wrong with spam musubi. Will have to try their other dishes. I'm saddened by the change of the garlic shrimp plate but I guess not many consumers like shell. Will still come back to try their other offerings. I'm wanting to try the katsu next. Definitely appreciate the employee taking my order being upfront about the change in the price of the garlic shrimp plate, the quantity and no shell. Friendly staff and they bring out your order to you! Overall, still decent pricing and food quality hasn't changed much yet. Will be returning whenever I'm craving for Hawaiian style food.

BBQ Beef & Chicken Katsu with Brown Rice & Mac

Friendly staff, plenty of seating available in the evening. I was recommended the bbq beef and got it with chicken katsu. The meats were tender, the katsu was my favorite. Great customer service, it wasn't too loud or silent it was just right. Perfect for a quick bite lunch/dinner.

Was the first time trying and going to definitely order again. We ordered through Doordash, it arrived quick. I really liked the chicken katsu, it was good pieces of chicken without any dark pieces. The garlic shrimp were very garlicky, but delicious! For that specific plate I do wish it had more rice to help with the garlic, but other than that, I LOVE the fact that you get more macaroni salad than rice. Can't wait to try again!

    Half and half, seafood plate

The food was so yummy! Ordering was quick and easy, and our meal arrived shortly after we placed our order. I tried the seafood combo and the half and half plate, both came to less than $30 total. The katsu, shrimp, and fish were all perfectly crispy and delicious. Both plates included a side of macaroni salad, which was so good. However, they should make it clearer that the plates come with two scoops of rice and mac salad; I had to ask the cashier for clarification, as did other customers. On the plus side, they were playing some absolute bangers! I'll definitely be back, though I do wish they had sturdier utensils--my fork was pretty flimsy.

    Garlic shrimp healthy plate (5/5)

Delicious, fresh, a bit salty but so good. Friendly fast service. Clean restaurant. No complaints, the garlic shrimp was the star. It would be great if the rice portion was larger to balance the salty component. Ideally 2 scoops of rice and 2 scoops of Mac salad. We would go back to try the katsu.

Food: BBQ Mix Plate Service: Great service! I was greeted upon entering and was able to order immediately. It only took a few minutes to wait for the food, and it was cooked fresh to order. (I took my order to-go.) Ambiance: Roomy tables that can fit up to 4 people comfortably. I wouldn't recommend dining in for larger parties since it's narrow inside, unless you're comfortable splitting the party into groups of 4 or less. Background music consisted of trendy pop music. Overall, I will be back again to try more items from their menu!

More seats and tables and the back of the restaurant

Went on a Friday evening around 5:30 and it was empty so service was quick and fast. Ordered the bbq plate which has one piece of short rib, bbq beef, and bbq chicken along with two scoops of rice and one scoop of Mac salad. The short rib was tough to eat and really chewy. The plastic silverware they provide is very thin and made it difficult to use to eat. It felt warm inside the restaurant to me. I'd do a to-go order next time if I return and maybe try the seafood options or the chicken katsu. Mac salad was good!

    Regular Chicken Katsu - 10/10
    Corinna T.

I had found out DQ Hawaiian was having their Grand Opening from a friend so I decided I'd attend since she had already tried their food and loved it! First 30 customers got their meal for free. After that 50% off! The incentive to come was there. We made it just in time to get #30! Woo hoo! The restaurant is small and narrow. Not an ideal place to bring the whole fam but possible as I saw 4 chairs to a table. Lots of hustle and bustle but nonetheless my food was done within a reasonable amount of time, all items accounted for, and was delicious. Location isn't too far from Sac peeps, such as myself, and part of EG where you're not driving too far into EG stuck in so much traffic. I got the Chicken Katsu regular plate. This came with 2 scoops of rice, 1 scoop of mac salad (has tuna, btw), and PLENTY of chicken. My toddler loved their crispy chicken and kept asking for more! 10/10 Hubby got the fish & shrimp plate. Again, great portions with the protein and same scoops of rice & mac salad. 10/10 Overall, my first time experience was perfect and food was flavorful. Crispiness of protein was superior. Held up well after we ordered our food and headed home to enjoy. We definitely would come back again!

I ordered the half katsu, half teriyaki combo so I could try both. My meal was delivered to the table in a tied-up to-go bag. Inside, I found a tiny plastic fork that wasn't very practical, so I asked for chopsticks. I also had to request teriyaki sauce, as it didn't come with the meal. Now, onto the food -- the chicken was cooked and coated perfectly. The katsu was golden, crispy, and incredibly tender inside. The katsu sauce was excellent and definitely a highlight. The teriyaki chicken was made with lean tender breast meat, nicely grilled, and flavorful on its own. Unfortunately, the teriyaki sauce was a letdown -- overly salty and more like standard Hawaiian-style brown gravy than classic teriyaki. The macaroni salad was also disappointing. It didn't taste like traditional Hawaiian mac salad and, honestly, wasn't even as good as the kind you'd find at a grocery store. Under the chicken, there were a few sad strings of lettuce -- no real veggies, and definitely no cabbage unless you special order it. Despite the downsides, I'd come back -- mainly for the meat. The katsu and teriyaki (minus the teriyaki sauce) were that good. Next time, I'll just bring it home, use my own teriyaki sauce, and utensils.

Visited this place while working close by and it was a good overall Hawaiian bbq! The portion size was good and the meat was cooked ok. Can't speak of the service because this is a walk up to the counter and order place so no service to speak of. The ambiance is a "hole in the wall" place with only 5/6 tables to sit at. Overall, I'm rating this like 3.5 for portion size and good price. However the taste could improve with more Hawaiian seasoning or cooked a bit better.

Tried out DQ HAWAIIAN BBQ, new spot in Elk Grove! Currently they're doing their soft opening and they were already super busy. I picked up my food to go and they had it ready so fast. It was done before I even pulled in to park! The inside is smaller but they had a good amount of seating available for those choosing to stay and dine in. Food rating wise .... The spam musubi was DELICIOUS! Had a nice little snap of the seaweed and pan fried spam. The Mac salad had really good flavor overall , just was a tad on the saucy end. The lumpia was SO GOOD, great crunch and flavor. The bbq plate was delicious! I love the short ribs and they were cooked and seasoned perfectly! I can't wait to come back and try some more menu items in the future!

    Fried shrimp and kalua pork
    Maggie W.

I was quite hungry after working in the area. Saw that this place opened up right next to Rose Tea Lounge and as I have been craving Hawaiian bbq for awhile, this place seemed perfect. I ordered the half and half combo, with fried shrimp and kalua pork. The portions are pretty generous! I liked the Mac salad as well too. I think the shrimp is nicely fried, with a perfect ratio of batter to shrimp. I also liked the kalua pork, although it is a bit salty so you need to eat with rice. I didn't try (as I'm trying to be mindful of sugar intake) any of the Hawaiian drinks, but they have so many different flavors here! Service was super quick: I waited maybe 5-10 minutes for my food. The inside has some tables and chairs, but seems to be mostly a take out place.

It needs more than patience when dealing with AI. Even though AI repeated the order (one salmon plate) with my daughter before she hung up, when I went to L&L to pick up the food, the hostess asked me to confirm if I have one or two orders because there were two orders using the same phone number.
