I was excited to try something new so I went to this place. Tasty Hawaiian barbecue yummy yummy yummy alone that sounds good. I really enjoy Masumi spam Masumi some of my favorite but the place I used to get it if I don't get it early I won't get it. So I came here and boy am I glad I did when I walked in and it was a very friendly hello and welcome and a big smile. They had a great menu. It was well displayed on the wall. Lots of things everything under 1299 $13 so super good prices also so I was here from Nasubi. They had two different kinds of musubi they had to spam musubi and then they had a barbecued chicken musubi. Wow both of them were super yummy. The barbecue chicken musubi was very flavorful. The chicken was definitely not dry and I'm really super glad I tried it the spam. Subi was very good. Both of them had a lot of rice. The seaweed on the outside had a lot a flavor to it. I also had a small bowl of steamed rice and soy sauce and speaking of sauce whatever sauce they gave me to pour over top of my musubi oh boy super yummy. The only thing I could find with this super cool spot was they definitely could use a zero type drink and they could do differently use a spicy teriyaki or a spicy musubi maybe they had it I just didn't ask for it, but I'll definitely be back here again thank you very much for the great service and the great food. I first heard about Tasty Hawaiian back in 2019 from another Yelp Elite, and it is my favorite spot around Natomas for Hawaiian that is open in the evening. The spam musubis are great (their catering is also a good deal). Combos I like are the BBQ beef, BBQ chicken, chicken combo (katsu and BBQ), chicken katsu with either the katsu sauce or curry, and the BBQ mix has it all (beef, chicken, shortribs). Their Mini Meal versions of these are also still generous and come with 1 scoop mac and 1 scoop rice. Located next to the Cricket wireless in the complex where 99 Cents Only closed down, close to Northgate and Garden Highway. Always super easy to phone-in an order and pickup, the lady is really sweet and the food is consistently tasty at Tasty. I had their food at a retirement party and ordered some on DoorDash the next day. The chicken Katsu was the same - Yummy!!! The beef wasn't as tender which was weird. They must have two kinds and I got the wrong one. The bbq chicken is very good and so I ordered that on my third try. The mini portion is large enough to have left overs the next day and it's priced reasonably. I wish they would put some shredded carrots in their macaroni salad but that's just my opinion. I l thought I wrote a review about this place years ago. We've been eating at Tasty Hawaiian BBQ since 2019, and it's still one of our go-to spots. My favorite proteins are the Hawaiian BBQ chicken and chicken katsu. Always flavorful, with a katsu sauce that tastes housemade and delicious. The white rice is cooked perfectly every time, and their mac salad is one of my favorites anywhere. Over the years, we've also tried their garlic shrimp, honey prawns, kalua pork, lau lau, BBQ beef, Korean short ribs, island whitefish, loco moco and spam musubi. Portions are always generous and filling, though the beef can sometimes be a bit tough. Prices have stayed mostly consistent, which is great, especially considering the generous serving sizes. Customer service is always friendly, and they even offer sweet tropical smoothies. Most recently, we picked up the $37 family meal for visiting family. Three large containers of meat with steamed cabbage and carrots, plus four scoops each of rice and mac salad. It was perfect for sharing! read more

The fish though was cooked perfectly with just the right amount of crunch and did not taste greasy at all. The rice was just right and the mac was good. Hawaiian mac can be too runny or too full of veggies, but this one was tasty and just right. The one beef I have is that they don't do musubi right. The meat is supposed to be in the middle! Too much rice to meat ratio. SERVICE: We ordered delivery so I don't know about the staff, but they packaged everything thoughtfully and even though it was delivered, it arrived unjostled and looking good. I love Hawaiian bbq and this place was just a treasure. Did you know if you sign up for their loyalty program, you get 50% off a plate on your birthday? Not only that but the prices are so cheap, even without that loyalty program. Essentially you get the same hearty meal as other Hawaiian bbq places but at a much lower price. I love this restaurant. Sacramento is very fortunate to have its fair share of Hawaiian BBQ restaurants. And this place, "Tasty Hawaiian BBQ" is no exception. In fact, it is one of the better spots I've eaten at in comparison to the more popular places such as "L&L" and "Ono". Located in the South Natomas area of Sacramento, Tasty Hawaiian BBQ has been in business since 2018. The best way to find this place is that it is right off of Northgate Blvd. and tucked in between the Arden-Garden connector and W. El Camino Ave. The parking lot is shared with several small business as well as a 99 Cents Only Store. As far as the inside at least during my visit (on Sunday 6/19/2022), indoor dining was closed and everything was takeout only. Even though it has only been opened for a few years, it had an old school hole-in-the-wall feel to it. The large menu directly behind the main counter was large and easy to read. Here you will find several options including family meals, regular-sized meals, mini meals, appetizers, rice bowls, and tropical smoothies. Since I wasn't craving a full-on meal, I ended up going with a ""BBQ Beef" mini meal while my +1 went with their "Teriyaki Chicken" mini meal. These were priced at $7.99 which is quite a good deal considering the sharp increase in food prices. Within less than 5 minutes, our meals were ready. They were conveniently placed in a styrofoam container complete with one small teriyaki sauce and utensils. Since the weather was very cooperative, I drove to a nearby park to enjoy my lunch. After opening up the container, I was impressed with how generous the portion was for the mini. This included several very hearty cuts of beef complete with moist white rice, creamy macaroni salad, and buttered cabbage. The flavor was out of bounds amazing as the beef itself was seasoned to perfection. The macaroni salad also had excellent flavor while everything tasted superior to some of their major competitors out there. After factoring in the service (which was excellent), prices (also excellent), and most importantly the food taste and quality, I am giving "Tasty Hawaiian BBQ" a solid five-star rating. I've been to quite a few amazing Hawaiian BBQ restaurants around Sacramento, the Bay Area, and Los Angeles and this place definitely ranks up there at the top of my list. read more

The food was ready quickly and I was a tad nervous on how the food would be since is in a sketchy looking plaza...but hey sometimes those are the best spots! The price was also very reasonable for the large portions. I ordered the BBQ beef and Kalbi short rib combo plate which comes with macaroni salad, two scoops of white rice and mixed veggies (cabbage and broccoli). Everything tasted great and that sauce on the side that I poured over everything!! (LOVE) Not sure what it was but will ask as will definitely be returning. I'm obsessed with this place! It's strange saying that as I've only tried it once, but it was sooo good on multiple levels. I ordered through UberEats and delivery was timely and accurate. I got the Chicken Katsu Curry Mini Meal (cheaper than the regular entrees and comes with less meat and one scoop of rice rather than two, but is still a HUGE portion that would last me 1.5 to 2 meals by itself) and the spam musubi. The curry sauce was great--flavorful, with a little bit of a kick. The katsu was a little soggy because the sauce was on top rather than on the side, but the un-curried edges were still nice and crispy. There's just something so comforting about a nice fried chicken cutlet. The steamed veggies I received were just a few pieces of cabbage--not my favorite vegetable in the world, but it provided a nice crunch and freshness to a heavier meal. I saw other pics on Yelp with pieces of carrot and broccoli, but I didn't get any, so it might be seasonal. That said, a side of steamed broccoli sounds like a great pairing and could help me stretch my leftovers--of which I had a lot! I'm not a mayo fan in general but I make exceptions for some mayo-based salads (egg salad, potato salad, etc.) The macaroni salad was pretty good and standard, very creamy and the noodles were al dente rather than soggy. It was a little bland though overall, probably the only part of my meal that wasn't absolutely amazing. It would have benefited a lot from a little crunch from celery or carrots or something like that, but maybe that's just me. One of my favorite parts about Tasty Hawaiian BBQ, which is kind of a weird one, is how AMAZING the rice is. I don't know what it is about it. It's just plain white rice, but it is perfectly cooked and each grain is separated and firm, but not raw. In most Asian cuisines, poorly cooked rice is a real dealbreaker, and I can think of a few places off the top of my head where I've had subpar rice that just made my meal overall bleh. But here the rice was so delicious, which in turn allowed me to enjoy everything else all the more :) It was good with the katsu curry, and good in the spam musubi. Speaking of, I love spam musubi in general, and this rendition was perfectly portioned and seasoned. It had a great spam to rice ratio, with a generous wrapping of seaweed. There are a few menu items I've already been eyeing to try my next time here. I sound crazy for saying this but I might see if they'd give me 2 scoops of rice instead of macaroni salad next time--it was just that good! And the mac salad wasn't bad. Area is slightly sketchy, lots of people pushing carts around, but it's worth the drive here. It's a mom and pop spot but it gets a lot of business.
