Severely undercooked steak for takeout and then blamed us for it. 1 star. The short version: we ordered medium rare and got steak that was badly undercooked and inedible to us, and we were treated like the problem when we brought it up. Details below. On June 5 my girlfriend ordered a steak medium rare for takeout and brought it home. When we opened the container, the meat was far rarer than medium rare, undercooked and pink/purple through the center, to the point it was inedible to us. We have photos. We didn't feel comfortable eating it, so we threw it out. We're working people and didn't have time to call in that day, so we went in person two days later to tell them what happened and showed them our video of the steak. We even wrote a complete letter laying it all out for ownership and management. Instead of simply taking the letter, passing it along, and offering any kind of credit, they kept asking why we didn't bring the food back, which we'd already explained in the letter. Their tone with us was accusatory throughout. Mistakes happen in any kitchen. Refusing to own it, and instead pushing the problem back onto the customer, is a choice, and a deeply unprofessional one. Extremely disappointed with both the food and the customer service. We ordered food last night and the rice was so hard it was completely inedible, we literally had to spit it out. We called right away and the worker told us we could come back the next day to have the order remade for free and that we didn't need to bring the food back. When we came back today, the manager suddenly told us they wouldn't honor that and refused to remake the food. Then she tried to act like she was doing us some huge favor by offering to remake ONLY ONE plate as a "one time exception" even though BOTH plates were bad. So what exactly were we supposed to do, split one plate after spending over $40? Mistakes happen, but the lack of communication and refusal to stand behind your product is unacceptable. We wasted money, time, gas, and a trip back because your staff gave us false information and then made us feel like we were trying to scam free food when we literally just wanted edible food for what we paid for. If you're going to sell bad food, at least have the decency to make it right instead of backtracking and making customers look like liars. I tried Ono shrimp and honestly... it was pretty mid, especially for a $20 plate. The shrimp looked super bland and didn't really have that garlicky, saucy punch you expect -- I feel like I could've cooked something better at home. I'm recommending this place not just for the food, but for the staff with their kind hearts. After a day at the beach we decided to pick this up to take it back to our hotel room. I ordered 8 steak and shrimp plates and then our rental van decided to die on us. I asked the chef/manager if he could help us jump it and he took the time to pull his truck in front and stayed with us the whole time. My autistic son was losing it and I had to order a Uber for everyone to go home. He gave me a free apple juice for my son seeing him so frustrated. It was such a nice gesture. I'm terribly disappointed in the portion sizes that Onos gives now. This review has been sitting in my drafts for a while now, but I've finally decided to post it. Service was alright. Kinda sucked that the drinks fountain wasn't working, but they gave us a canned drink instead so at least that made up for it. Our large steak plates came only half way full, with 1 scoop of rice, and barely dressed salad. I paid almost $20 a plate that wasn't even full unfortunately. Steak was meh, quality has definitely dropped over the years. I shouldn't be paying an upwards of $60 and everyone's still hungry. Positives: Workers are nice, I appreciate the condiment bar, and a good amount of seating options for a to-go plate establishment. Cons: Flavor isn't up to par, portion sizes, and price. For me, the cons outweigh the pros unfortunately, so I probably won't be back, which makes me so sad because I used to love this place. read more

Honestly, I love it when I stumble upon places like this. I happened to be driving by Waimanalo, and the hunger hit, and luckily, this place popped up as close by. I'm a sucker for garlic shrimp, so it was an easy yes for me. I ordered the steak and garlic shrimp, and it was great, but I also decided to order the coconut shrimp to try, and oh my god, it was amazing. Maybe the best coconut shrimp I've ever had. I also ordered the garlic fries, which were crispy and very garlicky, which I love. The service was fast and friendly. The first time I tried this place the steak was too salty as if the cook seasoned the steak 3x. Today I wanted to give it another try and boy I regret it. The lady that helped us was so nice and welcoming and we got our food under 10 minutes. As soon as I took the first bite of steak I instantly regretted giving this place another try. Came here on a weekday after the lunch rush about 2pm. Parking is still crowded in this corner but more parking available on the other side. I got the 7oz steak plate with salad and thousand island dressing. This steak was very delicious! Superrr tender and yummy grilled flavor. Double scoop rice and double salad, ate the whole thing! Now let's get onto the food, during the very rare times there wasn't sand in my food, the bites taken were mediocre anyways. When asked for more sauce, we were met with the strange demeanor of the cashier telling us sauces were extra on the bill. The sauces in question were the size of 3 penny's stacked on top of each other. When you are paying $80+ for a meal, I would expect at least more than one sauce for our meals! Used to frequent this place on my lunch break on a weekly basis. Went there yesterday and asked for a steak plate done medium. Came out to be well done no pinkness in my meat. It's because they cube cut the meat so it cooks faster. Rice portioning went down too as the steak would touch the top of the container. Salad is the usual spring mix lettuce. I just have to say the quality in food has gone down and prices have gone up. I paid $60 with tip for 2 plates today. Was coming in on my lunch break to grab food for my sick husband so i CALLED and PAID AHEAD. 1st time trying this place and it was just alright. The best thing was the steak. We ordered medium and as you can see it's definitely well done. Even though it wasn't cooked properly the player was good and the steak was soft. The shrimp was cooked well but tasted more salty than anything. The fried noodles tasted like fish. I think it had too much fish cake. The chicken tasted nothing like teriyaki and was kinda dry. We spent over $43 for these 3 items which I think is absurd! We like going here when we just want a simple plate lunch dinner. Exactly like their name says they are known for their steak and shrimp. They do serve other items like fish but I always stick the with the classic combo. It's consistent and priced reasonably compared to other places. They offer sauces on the side to dip your steak in and I always get the finadene sauce. The shrimp is super garlicky which I love and the steak is soft and seasoned perfectly. A few days later I see that they charged my card over $50?!? My son had a combo plate. I had the salmon plate and we shared a small plate of noodles. Unless the prices posted on their website are extremely off there is no way our food was that much. Made attempts to call them. No answer no way to leave a voice message. We drove around Kapolei Shopping Center for a place to buy lunch before my appointment nearby. Steak sounded good...ordered a 5 oz. Steak and noodles plate $13 for me and the BBQ Chicken and noodles plate $12 for my husband. While waiting for my food, I found a notice on the far right of the menu that they'll charge an additional $1 for each plate due to inflation and cost of supplies. I looked at my receipt...sure enough, I was charged that extra $1 for each plate. When I opened my steak plate, $14 was too pricey for the amount of food I got but the steak was tasty and some parts of the fried noodles were pretty salty. As for the chicken plate, price was about the same as other places for the amount of food my husband got. He said his chicken was good and the fried noodles wasn't salty so maybe they didn't toss my noodles enough. Overall, the workers were nice and main entree (steak and chicken) was good. I feel that the up-charge notice should be posted "ON" the menu and not on the far right so customers will be aware of it while viewing the menu before they order. I've always wanted to try this place after seeing photos of the delicious plate lunches. Arrived here and didn't know if it was open or not because the windows are tinted and you could barely see the blinking open sign from outside. Surely it was open, employees are nice. I got a 7oz steak plate, no salad though because I don't like it. Wished they had mac salad, I think that would be a good substitute and feel like it also goes well with steak too. I got my steak medium rare. It smelt so delicious on the car ride home. The steak was really tasty and seasoned well, didn't add any sauce and it was still flavorful. We ordered medium rare but got medium. It was a little overcooked but the flavor was good. We would get the steak plate again. The garlic shrimp plate was just rice and salad...what a bummer to get home and open the plate. I called the restaurant and spoke to a young woman and she explained that she wasn't there and she is correct that she was not the person that took my order or ring me up. Don't play with ONO's S&S! This salmon steak plate was ONO indeeeed. Salmon was absolute perfection got crispy exterior with flaky interior and if you can make me enjoy a wasabi sauce you're doing something right lol, steak had great flavor as well but I will admit the salmon was the star for me. This plate came with a side salad and rice. The Garlic shrimp was also a hit according to my Ohana, the really appreciated that they put some of that garlic butter goodness on the rice too made it even more flavorful. This location is not huge a few indoor tables and two outdoor tables. I think their service is pretty good, it's a very quick experience though so not much to go off. I definitely would recommend ONO's for some good eats in Kapolei!
