Absolutely amazing beer in Anchorage! The atmosphere is awesome. Huge roll up door that opens to the outdoor seating area in the summer months.

Service was quick and kind. Has a flare for rock climbing, nice artwork, food truck out back, a roomy upstairs and a nice size outdoor patio. Todd enjoyed the stout. I thought it looked chewable! LOL!

FINALLY, a brewery in Midtown! It's not my ultimate dream (that would be a brewery in Spenard, WHY has that not happened yet?), but it is a massive step in the right direction. (Matanuska Brewing doesn't count because they don't brew anything at their Midtown location, as far as I know) Equally as cool, for someone that fancies themselves "a climber" like I sometimes do, is that this is a climbing-themed brewery! In climbing (mostly in the sub discipline of rock climbing, and mostly in the sub discipline of rock climbing known as "cragging", which is the climbing of cliffs rather than mountains) the term "onsite" usually means climbing a route "clean" (with no falls) with no "beta" (beta is climbing slang for information about a route, allegedly because people used to get info on mountains by taking grainy video on beta tapes. For all you Millenials out there, beta was a competitor to VHS tapes. For all you GenZers out there, beta tapes were one of the first ways you could view video footage at your house.) In a brewery, it has all sorts of cool double-meanings, but I'll let you hear it from the founders on your first visit! The space is small and clean. It's going through a "soft opening" right now, but it already feels like a place where you bump elbows with people you know and make new friends out of strangers. This is a "nanobrewery", definitely the smallest in Anchorage. Their brewing setup is 31 gallons. If you don't know anything about brewing that might seem like a lot, but think about this way: that's 2 kegs per batch! For comparison, most homebrewers make 5 or 10 gallon batches. The owners were really friendly, despite my brewdate and I being maybe the only people in the space they didn't know. They also had a wonderful dog, Chai. Here are the beers they had on tap: Coffee IPA: I didn't try this one, next time! Brut Pale Ale: wonderfully dry with puncy hoppiness! Hops were Mosaic and...I forget the other one. Sitka Spruce Pale Ale: a spruce beer where you can actually taste the spruce, finally! Very nice pale with added complexity from the tree parts. Jalapeño Kölsch: nice spice to this one, but it tasted a little too much like pickled jalapeños to me. I'd love to see something like a habanero wheat beer though, some of my favorite beers of all time incorporate chiles. Love the sense of adventure with this beer. All-in-all, a great new brewery in the Anchorage brewery scene! I feel like the brewery bubble is bursting in some parts of the lower 48 (Portland), but it seems like it has SO MUCH more room to grow up here in Anchorage. So many people still have breweries that are a long drive from their house and/or place of work. It seems like most everything is either downtown or south of Midtown with little-to-none in the surrounding areas (Muldoon, Russian Jack, Turnagain, Spenard, South Addition, Fairview, etc). This one goes a long way into plugging a hole! Already excited for my return visit!

Great spot in midtown, they always have new beers on rotation and said you'd probably not get the same one twice when coming in! Check for a food truck out back to enjoy a bite with your beer on their nice outdoor seating area. Spacious upstairs area to! Looking forward to coming back to try more!

This super cute brewery is comparable to Cynosure Brewing but with a better parking lot. The inside is large enough, clean and has an industrial vibe. I love the adventurous art pieces hung throughout the space. Employees are welcoming and knowledgeable. Dogs are allowed inside. Love their Arctic Winds Pilsner. Onsite keeps an updated tap list on their Instagram. As well as their rotating food trucks. Did I mention On-site has the best glassware? Highly recommend.

Cute little brewery that looks the same as any other brewery in town. Wood tables, two levels of seating. They have a small selection of small batch beers. All the taps have rock climbing handles. I got the stout. It was OK. Not a coffee or chocolate stout. Strong yeast smell whe. You walk in, way stronger than I e smelt before in other breweries, just when my dad brews his beer at his house smells up the house for days.

Good variety of beer styles. Friendly staff. Dog friendly. Indoor and outdoor seating. Often a food truck parked in back.

Came by on a weeknight to a decent crowd but there was still plenty of space to sit or walk around. The people at the counter were very nice and welcoming. Love the upstairs area with local art and how the place is doge friendly!

I'm glad that they had beer flights because I was unable to decide what kind I wanted. With some assistance from the bartender I chose 4 beers and every single one of them was wonderful. I would absolutely go back if I'm ever in Anchorage again. It does get a little bit loud and it gets very crowded so be prepared to either wait, or sit at the bar. It is open seating, you check in at the host stand and they'll give you a menu and you just find a place to sit. All in all it was a wonderful time and the food was great. The servers seemed a little new, but the service was good and friendly. They carry Frontier brand sodas which we found to be excellent for their flavor. We got root beer and ripe raspberry soda. I ordered the Chili AK Salmon Bowl which our server confirmed is wild salmon. My wife ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich with fries. Both meals were really good. I especially liked the sauce on the salmon bowl so much so that I asked for a little more only to be charged for the extra sauce. I also noticed they include a service charge on the bill (note that this was not gratuity). They told us it was to help them get seasonal labor and to cover overhead. Maybe this is an Alaska thing, but with menu prices as high as these, why would you need to add a service charge? Pricing and nickel & diming aside, I would recommend this place.

Midnight Sun Brewing is one of the Alaskan ones I tried a while back and I felt that the beer I had was very solid and enjoyable. In fact Alaska in general thus far I have enjoyed the breweries there considerably. The beer I had from this brewery was the Panty Peeler which is a Belgian Tripel. A good beer for sure and is a good pairing with fish and chips or a burger. Flavor highlights with this beer are sweet, strong and fruity but all in a well balanced way. The beer goes down smooth and is light bodied. A good beer to start for me with this brewery. I'd loved to try more of their beer options. It features a blend of barstool window seats, barstool bar seats, high-top tables, and standard-height tables. We went for a very late lunch, which made the quick food delivery and yet under-attentive service a little perplexing. Having spent last summer in London, the attraction at TCT for us was comparing and contrasting Alaska Halibut Fish & Chips with the British fare. I wanted to like the Tent City offering; I really did not. For the price ($28/ea), we got three modest pieces of fish and the equivalent of two servings of chips. Both the fish and the chips were mushy (undercooked), with a heavy batter finish in contrast with the light and crisp British offering. The accompanying tarter sauce was an odd raspberry-and-blackberry concoction that my family and I called a pickle aftertaste. The presentation, for the price and the atmosphere, was a confusing combination of a metal basket lined with wax paper (like a 1950's drive-through), plastic water and soda glasses (like a college cafeteria), and real silverware. Other reviews have high praise for TCT so, on our next visit to Alaska, it will be good to give them another try. The bones of this establishment are in place for a really special experience, but, today, for me, it was just "ok."

It took a little bit for her to engage and warm up with us, but once she did, she was attentive, friendly, and made the experience feel much more welcoming. Food-wise, we were impressed. Two of us ordered the burger and it was honestly excellent--made with a blend of ribeye and tenderloin, and you could taste the difference. Really well constructed and flavorful. I went with the mushroom soup and a Caesar salad, and both were solid choices; fresh, satisfying, and better than your average "safe" menu items. The cocktail selection was also strong, but the smoked old fashioned was way too sweet. It needed to be toned down on the sugar to let the bourbon and smoke shine through. Overall: great food, great drinks selection, and a good bar atmosphere.. just be prepared for a slower start on service during peak nights.

Between being seated and appetizers, and again between appetizers and our entrees, he was basically nowhere to be found. The thing that really got me was being asked if we wanted boxes while our plates were still full and we were just sitting there having a conversation, never once offering to top off our drinks until we finally asked. It's a shame because the food really was solid and the restaurant itself has a nice warm vibe to it. ORSO clearly has a lot going for it and on a different night with more attentive service it could easily be a 4 or 5 star experience.
