I went here for a mani and pedi. I know, it's like coffee shops, there are so many of them - how does this one stand out? First, it's not like some places - a sea of chairs. This place is smaller, much more cozier. There were two chairs! Second, the attention to detail is higher. The soaking tubs for the feet are better and it's more about pedicure than a long massage. Third, the overall atmosphere is warm and cozy. Sometimes it might feel like you are in a grocery store at other places. Not here - warm, nice music (and it isn't spa music!), and very friendly people. It's worth a visit. read more

The purple door is thee best place to get your nails done professionally in Portland. Years ago I went to a chop shop nail salon where your just a number in a line and got a cut on my toe that turned into an infection that took a year of antibiotics and two surgeries to clear up. So I'm very particular. I go to Allie and she is very clean and precise with her work and I like that she doesn't try to dig or do things without asking. She is an artist. She Does excellent nail art and is always up to try something new. The salon is cute and clean and has tons of nail color options. This is where you go to find your nail stylist for life. So when you go remember to be patient and trust that they will spend the time and effort on your nails that a quality nail tech should. No more of these chop shops. I'm a lifer now. read more

Taylor does the best job on my eyebrows. I always feel pampered. she is so sweet and always finds time for me.

Service was good but unfortunately when I took the polish off my nails, my nails had been stained yellow. I have never had this happen before and it was just OPI nail polish (which I use at home too) and so it had to have been something in the pre-nail polish that caused the nail color change. read more

She really took the time to ask me about my expectations as a new client and was willing to order a gel color that she normally does not carry. I selected the most basic of the three options. I loved the experience. Rather than a large room with wall to wall pedicure chairs and lots of noise and distractions, Purple Door is arranged for privacy. This review is only for facial services from Julie - I haven't had any other services here. I've now been here a few times so I can say the first time wasn't a fluke - Julie is great! She takes the time to asses your skin each time you go in and doesn't just use the same products. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is not because of anything that really bothers me but you can hear noise from the nail services happening in the other part of the salon and when the door opens. I'm able to tune this out so it doesn't really bother me but if you are looking for a fully "zen" experience then just keep that in mind. I promise though - Julie is worth it! read more

This review might not be as accurate now, but I wouldn't delete b/c I am not sure of how their services are at this point. ************************************************************************************** 7/7/11: This place is worth the visit! I can only, personally, speak to the facials but they also do nails/pedi's and have heard good things about them. The price of the facial was incredible. I'll let you call to get prices but I can tell you it was less than half what I have paid and checked prices on other salon's. The prices beat Groupon discount prices. I had a lactic peel with a calming mask and it was great. Ruth spent 45 - 50 mins on me and did a great job. I will be going back to get the beni's of repeat treatment now that I can afford it... so excited about that! Ruth is super nice and really works to make you feel taken care of. Only thing keeping it from 5 stars is that the aesthetics isn't that of the obsequious spa environment or extra services but if you just need to get a good facial at an affordable price then... I started going here because I was sick of my nails peeling from the other products used at different nail salons. The price is a bit more (and only a bit) than many of the "walk in" places, but there are reasons for that! I am never rushed, my nails look great, and they don't peel! Julie did magic on my face yesterday and I absolutely loved it and so did my skin! It was dry and clogged up and after leaving it was clean and smooth like baby's skin. I truly felt refreshed, relaxed and rejuvenated! I asked her questions all through the time because I'm a curious one and wanted to know what she was applying on my skin. She's the sweetest explained professionally and to the point. I liked that she said "you want to feed good food to the skin" and she does just that by using 100% organic Eminence skin care line known to nature. This review is for Julie, for waxing. She's so good that I can actually almost fall asleep during a full leg and bikini wax. Seriously. She somehow manages to pull the strips off in a way that is pretty painless. Additionally, she's really good at following my lead in how much chatting I want to do. If I bring up something in conversation she is happy to chat, but if I want to just be silent and nap she understands and lets me rest while she works. Her fee is quite a bit less than the high-end waxing salons in the area. Expert quality, superb service at a reasonable price? I'm a customer for life. read more

I receive facial services such as....waxing, facials, and microdermabrasion. Since falling into her services my skin is so healthy and fresh, I'm so fortunate to receive daily compliments on my skin and brows because of Julie. I also appreciate her insight and expertise on facial/beauty products. I've tried other institutions, but they just don't compare to the skill level and experience Julie has to offer. My face is always assessed and any problem areas are catered to. The room is very clean, organized and relaxing. I see Kelley at the Purple Door for foot transformation. I am formerly a hairdresser with a salon/spa in San Francisco. I am not kidding when I say I have never met such a meticulous and style conscious nail technician like Kelley. She turns the work of a simple pedicure in to a science - her great personality and the relaxing experience are just icing on the cake. Kelley provides the quality & experience of $100 pedicure for half the price! A super-deluxe pedicure with all the works are $50. A deluxe pedi is $45 and a basic is $40. I have to book ahead with her though, she fills up quickly...and it's not hard to see why. read more

They are not the 20 minute slam bam service and can't understand you when you say what you want. You get what you are paying for here. Definitely nothing special about their pedicures. I had someone named Julie and she was snarky from the beginning because I did not like the smells. She informed me it was a nail salon after all, than when I commented that my skin around my toes was still very rough after she had smooth it, she told me that I had to go to the next level of service $45.00 if I need more. How about any! She left me to struggle putting on my sandals without hurting the polish while she went into the other room. I've been going to Purple Door for over 10 years. Getting my nails done is one of the little luxuries I allow myself. Kelley has done a great job and it's easy to become friends w/ the gals that work there - they're a wonderful bunch. The pedicures there are the best, with comfortable massaging chairs and great jet tubs. Every time I try to get a pedicure somewhere else, I come away disappointed. They are a little pricier than other nail salons, but I don't worry about the cleanliness of their shop or procedures and there are no electronic drills whirring about making noise and burning my cuticles.
