Stopped by this place for the first time on our way to Leesburg Outlet Mall. The place looks very casual from outside and had simple interior too. Didn't expect much from it, even though they had great reviews on Yelp. From the first sight the prices look a little high for this kind of setup. The menu is extensive and has a variety of appetizers, entrees and desserts. We've ordered their signature Opa Burger, Chicken Souvlaki, Moussaka, and Dip Sampler. The service was quick and friendly, everything came in a timely manner. I liked the moussaka I preferred and had a bite of my friends' orders too - all the food was extremely tasty and fresh. Opa! Mezze Grill is a must for anyone seeking an authentic, flavorful, and delicious Greek meal. We have been twice now, and both times have been amazed by the flavors that go into every entree. You might be able to find other Greek restaurants in the area, but will be likely pay more, and receive less authentic food. The first time we visited, we dinned in and were happily greeted by the staff and personally attended to by the owner. We ordered the kabob platter, which is plenty to share for two, saganaki (who doesn't love flaming cheese), side Greek salad and baklava for dessert. All of the food was fresh, made to order and AMAZING! Second visit, we contemplated ordering a chain carry out, but remembered how much we loved Opa! the first time we went. It also feels good to support a local business during a difficult time for most. We have dined in (pre-Covid) and have enjoyed the experience. The mezze is delicious, we really enjoy the dip appetizer. Our favorite menu item is the gyro. We always order the Chicago gyro, it's flavorful, well seasoned and the lettuce and tomato brighten the wrap. The tzatziki that's on the gyro is awesome; tangy and garlicky. We always get an extra order of it on the side to dip the fries in to. The fries are made from fresh potatoes, cut and cooked in house, this is worth mentioning because it shows effort and that's something lots of restaurants don't do nowadays. read more

I was in the area visiting a friend and we found this gem through a Yelp! search. The service was fast and friendly and the food was delicious! We had the squash fritters (so good, especially with the tzatziki!), the dip trio appetizer, she had a Greek salad with gyro meat, and I had the chicken souvlaki. The hummus was good and tasted homemade. The chicken souvlaki was flavorful. I didn't taste the gyro because it was pork and I don't do pork, but my friend said it was good. This little spot is tucked away in a strip shopping center and hard to notice. It's a small cute spot with 10-12 tables facing the counter/ kitchen. The owner is super nice and welcoming, very personable and attentive. He checked on me multiple times. I stopped in for lunch around noon and ordered the Pastitsio (heavy for a early lunch, I know) but I was craving comfort.. the entree was served with a decorated green salad with feta, olives, red onions, lemon and herbs. It was delish! The pastitsio was a generous serving on red sauce. It looked amazing but wasn't something I would order again. The béchamel sauce was very thick and oddly stiff, requiring a knife to cut -- it was plated on top of a tangy red sauce. I suspect it wasn't fresh since it was a Tuesday and this entree is likely ordered at dinner on the weekends. I was encouraged to try the Moussaka, but I am not a fan of eggplant. My server, Juan, was so sweet and attentive. I mean, he was fabulous. I ordered a Chicken Souvlaki, opa style. If you are asking yourself, what is Opa Style? It's fries inside the meal. Yes, I had fries inside my gyro, and it was awesome. I ate the whole thing. I really, really enjoyed this dish. I don't know how they seasoned their meats, but whatever it is, it works. The pitas were fresh, thick, and pillowy soft. The pork in my gyro was tender and tasty. The spanakopita, tyropita, and tzatziki in the sampler tasted fresh and homemade. I had three very minor complaints about the gyro. First, I wished the slices of gyro meat were a bit larger. Second, I like more crispy, burnt crusts on my grilled meats; there wasn't enough on my gyro. Finally, the gyro could have used a bit more salt. But those are very, very minor issues. We put in a big order of about 15 dishes for a company luncheon. Everyone was very disappointed. We tried multiple wraps (chicken, gyro, etc etc) hummus, and appetizers platters, lamb and a few others. No one was satisfied with even the french fries they were limp with no salt and cold. When went in for pick up the meats were on the roller but the roller wasn't on and the meat was just sitting there. I'm sorry to the owner and the lovely girl working there. They were friendly but when 15 people that are not picky eaters say they hated the food, that says something. Go to Greek Unique! That's a great restaurant just nearby. I could have spent $20 at Cava Mezze Grill, or searched for some Americanized gyro or Mediterranean joints instead. This place sort of reminds me of overpriced Korean restaurants that hike up their entree prices ridiculously, when it probably costs a fraction of the price to make at home. I admit, I will need to perform some due diligence before writing more reviews on Mediterranean food establishments. This restaurant is located almost in the heart of Ashburn, in a Giant shopping center. It is easy to find, with plenty of parking available. This was my first visit to this restaurant. I ordered the Chicago Gyro. The lamb/beef meat itself was delicious, although I wasn't too crazy about their tzatziki sauce. The service was a little slow as there was only one person available to wait on us, and I believe she is the owner. She was extremely friendly though; we told her it was our birthdays, and coincidentally it was her's as well. After dinner she brought us rice pudding dessert with a candle, which was very thoughtful. I would definitely return for the Chicago gyro. read more

**** 3 1/2 Stars **** --------------------------- I had high hopes for this restaurant. After all, it gets great reviews on Yelp --- and --- they have avgolemono soup on the menu. We kept putting off going here for various reasons. Then The Clipper came in the mail and there were coupons for Opa Mezze Grill. Once again, lured into Ashburn by The Clipper LOL! We got here around 5 p.m. on a Saturday night. The first impressions once you enter can be confusing. We saw a soda dispenser plus 2 coolers with sodas and wine. Then there is a counter with a cash register. When seeing such a set up, it always strikes me as a place where you have to go to the counter to place your order and then you get your own drinks. Yet, first impressions can be misleading. We walked in and weren't sure what to do. Do we go to the counter and order? Or does someone seat us and give us a menu? It turns out it was the latter. A friendly man came out of the kitchen to tell us to sit where ever we wanted. Then a waitress greeted us and gave us menus. I got a soda to drink while my husband got a glass of white wine. We both ordered some avgolemono soup. For my main course, I ordered Opa! chicken while he ordered Brizola Hirini. When the avgolemono soup came out, I was so looking forward to having it. At first glance, it looked right. Large pieces of orzo, a generous portion of white meat chicken pieces and a thick, creamy broth. Sadly, there was no lemon flavoring at all in it. What a disappointment. It seems that it's the rare Greek restaurant these days that does a good avgolemono. I hate to say it but Amphora's "egg lemon rice soup" is better than Opa Mezze's avgolemono. I'm not sure as to why there was no lemon flavoring. Years ago, I went to Taverna Cretekou in Old Town Alexandria with some family members. The Sunday brunch had what the owner told us was avgolemono soup. When we tasted it, it tasted just like chicken soup. My Dad asked the owner why there was no lemon in it. He said that he used to make it the correct way but customers complained! I don't know if that's the reason that Opa Mezze didn't add the lemon but I think that restaurant owners should never dumb down their cuisine. Okay...rant over! The Opa! Chicken, however, was tasty. It consists of "sauteed chicken breast in lemon wine sauce and capers served with rice and a side Greek salad". The sauce was thick, smooth and with a creamy consistency. The lemon and wine flavorings were there but subtle. The rice was pilaf style and was properly cooked. The Greek salad had iceberg lettuce, tomato slices and an abundance of red onions. I asked for it without feta cheese (as did my husband) and our requests were honored. The only drawback to this dish --- the chicken portion was just too much. My husband liked the Brizola Hirini. This dish consists of " marinated pork chops grilled to perfection served with Greek potatoes and side Greek salad". The 2 pork chops that come with this dish were truly "grilled to perfection" with the meat being tender and tasty. The Greek potatoes were sliced and roasted with olive oil and spices. For dessert, we decided to share a piece of Galaktaburiko. It was our first time trying this dessert. When we ordered it, we watched as our server took a piece out of one of the coolers, then took it back to the kitchen to heat it up. It was drizzled with honey and dusted with confectioner's sugar. One serving equals a huge portion size so we were glad we shared a piece! It was tasty and the filling had a nice citrusy taste to it. So, in conclusion, we felt that Opa Mezza does some dishes really well. My husband isn't a big fan of Greek food but he did volunteer that he wouldn't mind eating there again. I, too, would eat there again, but sadly, I wouldn't have their avgolemono soup. read more

I have been here more times than I can count and I have NEVER had a bad experience. I can't stay away because their food is SO good. I can say with complete honesty that they have the best hummus I have ever eaten in my life. Their pita bread is so fresh and delicious as well! I usually go and get just the pita & hummus for a meal. Their gyros are also some of the best I've had with fresh and tasty tzatziki sauce! I also have to mention their zucchini fritters. If you think you hate zucchini order them anyway- that's how good they are. My only complaint is that they don't sell their hummus by the container to take home! Went back to the restaurant to complain and was hoping for some customer service. But no! the owner just point blank said that this is what you get. Not even the courtesy to offer an option. At the recommendation of my in-laws we ordered takeout from here. Food was ready in twenty minutes and everything was fresh and hot. I went for the Opa! gyro- the meat was well seasoned and flavorful, and the tzatziki was delicious. The fries were a little limp but overall it was a good meal. They also have a decent kids menu- our daughter had the very not Greek penne and marinara but it worked for her. (Other parents will understand how crucial it is to find a kids menu!) This is definitely one of the better Greek places in the area and I look forward to trying more of their menu. read more
