If you want an amazing burger on amazing breads, look no further! Not only that, there are over 50 beers to choose from. Not being a beer drinker, I went with the hard cider, which tasted great with the appetizers and burger itself. The chicken wings were tasty, and the breading was great. Not at all greasy. We also really enjoyed the falafel plate! We also went with the white cheese and garlic chips. Yumminess!!! I ordered the Singin' In The Rain burger. Absolutely delicious! NOTES: I learned that Medium Well here means what Medium Rare is in the US. If you don't want to wait or do reservations, be sure to get there by 7:30. We were seated right away, and then the place was full with people waiting by 8pm. It's off the touristy beaten path. Open Baladin, hidden in the heart of Rome's Trastevere district, was a real treat. It was certainly one of my more memorable experiences in a trip full of memorable visits. I can't gush about the food, as I found their vegetarian burger option tasty but decent, and their homemade potato chips were excellent but too much. However, I was here for the beers and the beers did not let me down. On my first visit our server brought us to their underground nook, Dal Nonno Clandestino (I think). This, I imagine, changed our experience dramatically, as I asked to sit at the bar. If we were in the main room not only would we have to compete with the crowds and the volume I don't think we would have had the same one-on-one attention which allowed me to ask about their many options. I returned the following day to peruse their bottled offerings and pick up some selections to take back with me. I also dropped in minutes before leaving Italy as I had freed up some space in my luggage for another glass and some more goodies--priorities!--but they weren't technically open for business. In all cases I found the servers and staff to be friendly, helpful and informative. The people I spoke with were bilingual, in both Italian and English As for the beers... ah! I became hopelessly in love that night with a beer named Xyauyú. If you're anywhere at all near Campo de'Fiore/downtown Rome you have no reason not to visit! read more

Great place if you love beer!! Hundreds of different types of beer to choose from, good service, and get a bit crowded (but that's a good thing). Got a burger with grilled peppers, onions, and bacon; it was decent. No longer a secret it seems. Beer is becoming a thing in Rome, and its working. After a fantastic meal in the area, my friend and I Googled our way to this place for a beer nightcap. The crowd is young....we were almost the oldest people there, and I am not old by any stretch. The VERY friendly hipster/hippie bartenders spoke English, and loved chatting about the beers. They have some very unusual beers in addition to international styles, and this is a good place to try and figure out what an Italian character in beer is like. I tried a cask ale they had on tap and found it unlike anything I've had in the states or the UK. VERY crowded and noisy but fun at the same time...low key festive. The menu looked great, but I was full and had to decline for another time. Oh I will be back. read more

Open Baladin is a BIG space ... I visited 5 of Rome's top craft beer bars over the course of my one-week stay and Open Baladin was definitely the largest. Plenty of tables for seating a large party and a long bar area with seats. Although they had a pretty decent tap list, I got the impression that Open Baladin was more focused on food than craft beer ... definitely more of a restaurant than a craft beer bar (the Teku glassware they use is excellent - so I'll give them that). For example, the bartender didn't seem to know exactly what was on tap and had trouble when I asked for a recommendation ... she just didn't know her beers. Because of the big space, the atmosphere was a bit sterile and cold ... certainly nothing wrong with Open Baladin, but it just didn't give me the warm and fuzzies. Prices were a bit on the high side, even for Rome ... service was cold / robotic. With the increased craft beer bar competition in Rome, Open Baladin left me wanting more and was my least favorite of the five craft beer bars I visited. I would definitely recommend it for families and such looking to grab a burger (no Italian food here) ... but for serious beer nerds, it's not a must visit in my opinion. read more

This is a hidden place in the ancient Rome where everything seems to be pizza and pasta. We loved it! The variety of options is good (especially the burgers) and the prosciutto with buffala is a must. Their chips (not cheap) are really good and comes with a hot tomato sauce to dip, which is much better than the classic ketchup option. Busy for lunch with locals (another plus) which makes the service a little slow, but still friendly. Prices are not low but it's worth the visit, especially when you want to avoid the pizza/pasta combo. read more

Great Burgers and Beer! A definite nice break from pasta!

This restaurant has a lot of potential especially since it is one of the few places creating diversity in a very food-wise non-diverse city (what that means is that you will have a hard time finding any good food other than Italian, but you are in Italy, so what's the problem). The rating is for food only: Burgers: good with potential to be very good and even great! The meat quality is good, burgers are seasoned to perfection and taste beefy. They have to work on a couple of things, though. First - they need to cook the burgers to the right temperature - med-rare doesn't mean black and blue and almost completely uncooked. Medium, means warm red center not cooked all the way through. Second - they need to STOP putting BBQ sauce into the ketchup (which is apparently home made; again, Heinz is good enough, no need to get fancy) and on the burgers (it's a European thing I guess). Third - they need to get different buns - this is something that you will encounter all over Europe - the bun is two-three times the size of the burger patty and that is just too much bread. Another problem, is the price - cheeseburger with bacon and other fixins is around EUR 14, which in my opinion is excessive. Potato chips: very good. Warm, crispy and salty - yum, Pasta: with meat and porcini mushrooms. Very good. The pasta is homemade, cooked to perfect al dente and the sauce is very tasty as well. Good beer selection, although they serve only one, 0.3 liter size, which is a major ripoff. read more

A fabulous upscale beer bar in Rome. It's always crowded later in the evening, so come early or make a reservation to make sure you get a table. They don't allow people just to stand at the bar. If it's packed, they'll put your name on the waiting list and you will wait outside with everyone else. If you can, request to sit upstairs on a couch or on the cozy leather arm chairs. Downstairs is very restaurant like, and upstairs is like a bohemian apartment (so cool)! My favorite beer at Open Baladin is the Enkir which is made in the saison style with ancient grains! Most beers cost around 5 Euro and don't miss out on the delicious chips that come in all different styles! Their crochette aren't bad either! read more

AMAZING burgers here-- well-seasoned and appropriately sized with a fluffy homemade bun. I got the burger with mozarella, tomato and light basil mayonnaise... it was delicious (and I don't even really like sauce or tomatoes). On the pricier side (10-14 euros) but well worth it. Loved the atmosphere and decor of the place too-- definitely added character. Would definitely recommend or go again for a nice switch to the pizza pasta routine. read more

Another big fan here. I would describe myself as a beer geek, so spending three weeks in Italy I have made it my mission to find some craft beer to enjoy in different parts of the country. No small feat I might add. Open, was just a terrific experience all around. Our waiter Fabione was knowledgeable and really helpful in making some selections. An extensive tap list that will please any beer palate. I am an IPA fan and the 2 I sampled were both excellent. Even more surprising was the food. I had one of their sandwiches on some of the best bread I have had on my trip. My wife had the vegetarian Burger ( nice break from all the cured meats) and pronounced it the best ever. I'm not a vegi burger guy, but I took a bite and had to agree it was outstanding. We also saw some other dishes come out if the kitchen that looked great. Often times it is hard to get good food and great beer in the same place, not so here. We came for lunch, it was an uncrowded and very relaxing experience. Don't know how the place is at night but suspect it could get busy. We are going to hit it one more time at the end of the trip it was that good. The meat was pretty rare for me when I asked for medium well. The burger was not good I'm not sure why the feel the need to put tomato sauce on the burger but the menu said Tabasco sauce? Open Baladin is exactly what every other review claims it to be, a bar with a extremely wide selection of European and local bears with an eclectic sense of style. I had a fruity style beer, which was recommended by the waiter (sorry I do not recall the name of the beer) with a side of home made "white" chips (white = garlic with cheese). The beer was really good and the home made chips were quite good. I would highly recommend this location if you are a beer connoisseur of beer or just looking for something different than the normal scene in Rome. Only one change I would give the bar, I would recommend some sort of platter plate of beers so you can get a small taste of several beers, I did not see any option like this on the list. read more

Some great beer on tap (a sour or two of their own, a couple of saisons, etc). Good food - we had some pasta and a Roman-style cod dish. And they also have some good bottles, including reasonably-priced Cantillon! Our waitress was very helpful; when we inquired about one of their beers, she called it awful and recommended something better. After we got the other beers, she gave us a sample of the "awful" beer, so that we could try it ourselves. :-) read more

The place is a little hard to find, but worth looking for. We needed to find a place that had some meat!!! We didn't want any more seafood pasta/ect. This was a great find!! The beer selection was huge. My husband and I each ordered a beer. Although I can't remember the names of it, what we had was great. I'm pretty sure you can't go wrong. I wanted to try another one, but we had been out all day sight-seeing and just wanted to get back to rest up. I wish I would have though. I personally think that it was a little pricer. This place was a great little break from the usual Italian cuisine. We had a lot of trouble finding good beer in Rome, but this place had a really great selection of craft beers. No other bar or restaurant came close to what they had on tap. As for food, the spicy chicken strip appetizer and the fried mash potato balls were great as was the burger. This place had good burgers and chips. Everything is home made such as the ketchup, mayo, sodas and so on. This place would get a better rating if the service wasn't so shitty! Upon arrival they said it was reserved at 8, it only takes us about an hour to eat so that was fine, but the waitress didn't get our drink order to start with. Assuming she'd come back, 25 minutes later we had to have another waitress get her, which was unusual because they wanted out by 8 for he reserved party. Once she came, we took advantage to order food and drinks, pretty fast to get food, but don't expect to get anything else after you've ordered. My boyfriend and I went here after a tour when we desperately needed a snack, and break from all the (delicious) wine. Being fans of craft beer at home, it was really cool to see Rome's take on things. We enjoyed several of their house brews, along with an order of their homemade chips (amazing!) and split a burger. We went during the late afternoon, and it was pretty dead, but it was perfect for what we were looking for, and a nice break from the tourism of the city. I would definitely recommend to any craft beer lovers, but also to anyone who just needs a break from wine and wants to enjoy a nice beer on draft (a rarity in Italy).
