Real good spot. I was hesitant because of the no changes or substitutions (I'm not extremely picky but I like what I like). The mimosa is definitely worth the price and my Caesar wrap was really good!

If you like flavor, than you will love this place! We walked in on a Saturday at 4 pm, and were immediately greeted and seated. There is limited seating, but they also have a bar area. Our server gave great menu recommendations. We started with the Buffalo Brussels Sprouts. The Brussels were so flavorful and delicious! They were coated with a unique batter. The buffalo Brussels are definitely a new fave appetizer. We also ordered the bbq bacon burger and the smothered chicken entrees. The burger is possibly the best burger that I've had at a restaurant. I didn't prefer the well done fries, but our server gladly replaced the fries. I also tasted the smothered chicken and it was also very delicious. There weren't busy when we arrived, but We did wait a while for our food. But the food was worth the wait. What I loved most about this restaurant is that my food was hot and so flavorful. I could taste the flavor inside of the food. I'm So glad that we were able to dine here and I can't wait to return.

My husband and I tried out Open Kitchen last weekend for the first time! The staff were all very nice. We had multiple people tell us thank you for coming in. I had a beer, which I thought they had a good wide selection of those and cocktails. For dinner, I had the 10 Street Chicken Sandwich and fries. They had the option to have different seasonings on the fries, but I stuck with the original. I thought the normal fries had a great flavor! The chicken sandwich was just good. I have no real complaints about it, but it seemed like it could use something else to blow me away. All in all, I thought the food was good and will return to try more of the menu! I will also add, that the building is block, so it gets kinda cold in there!

Solid restaurant. We were greeted right when we walked in the door, and seated quickly. She made sure it was okay if we sat in a high top- I appreciate her thinking of others and their specific abilities. The place was well maintained on the inside. It was a little cold for my liking, but my wife wasn't complaining so it was probably just me (but maybe wear a long sleeve if you are going in the winter like we did). I ordered the Blue Firework cocktail, and the smothered chicken with Brocolli and whipped potatoes for my meal. The cocktail was great- the champagne in it wasn't too overpowering and had great balance of taste...and I appreciated the sugar rim on it. The smothered chicken was good. The Brocolli was cooked thoroughly, and I could tell was finished on the grill to give it a nice char. The potatoes had great taste and were smooth. The smothered chicken was good, but not amazing. My two complaints about it: the breading on it was a little soggy for my liking (not super crispy and seemed to fall off the chicken) and there was a certain flavor about it that really overwhelmed everything out (I couldn't put my finger on what that flavor was). Overall, we were satisfied with coming here. Food was good, drinks were great, service was wonderful, and the place felt clean.

Stopped by here for the first time Saturday for lunch. Overall, we were happy. The fried chicken sandwich was good but I'll admit I found $1.50 upcharge to add sauce to it to be strange, since the sauce was just a light drizzle. Breakfast was tasty and service was pleasant and helpful. The interior areas (bar top, some storage) could use tidying up to make the ambiance better.

Here's my first Yelp review of 2023! This is actually from about a month or so ago before Open Kitchen temporarily closed. So technically this experience happened in 2022. They are apparently in the process of planning a move, so my review is based on the original location. I visited once, with my dad and husband, for brunch. I had been interested in checking this restaurant out for a while, of course, I also love supporting local Black- owned businesses and restaurants. Their IG page is also very convincing as the food looks incredible. We seated ourselves when we entered around 12 noon, it was a small neighborhood spot. There was one small tv and noise level was overall quiet and easy to hear each other. I recommend visiting with a few friends as seating was very limited, this maybe ok for a group of 3-4 max. Or if you are into the solo dolo thing, need alone time, me time? This is a great spot to bring your book, or maybe journal and get some thoughts off your mind. Just chill. After seating ourselves, the co-owner and chef, I believe of the restaurant, came over and hands us menus. She also gave recommendations. They offer to pour a glass of water and bring you another beverage based on what you select. This time we all went with waters and no extra drinks. For food, I ordered the very popular Cinnamon Crunch French Toast, and the men both chose sandwiches. The Monte Cristo and a Fried Chicken Sandwich. My order was true breakfast, I like my eggs scrambled, and I enjoyed some pork sausage Pattie's. There are about 5 hearty slices of the French toast that comes with my order so more than my small appetite can finish. (I suffer from your eye's bigger than your stomach syndrome) I also was given a nice syrup to dip my food in, I can't remember if it was true maple or the thickness, sorry. If you can get a little to-go box, it will make a great second brunch for the next morning. Everyone's meals were filling and satisfying. It did take a little time to get the food but that allows you more time to sit and chat. Enjoy your company and getting away from the hustle and noise. I don't like to feel rushed anyway. When I'm eating, I like to take my time. Overall good food. I'm looking forward to when Open Kitchen returns at their new location. Would highly recommend a larger dining space for more patrons. I understand they're in the process of a move so I recommend following them on their Instagram, so you know when they will be open again and most certainly check it out! Jackie M. - 01/15/23

We hardly come to the south side of Indy but looks like we'll be coming back again. I'm skeptical of pictures from the restaurant on Yelp, but my honey garlic chicken looked just like the picture. A huge portion for the price and everything was made to perfection. It was so good I ate the whole thing. The beans were still crispy and are next level with the onions and peppers. Our service was great too!

So the hubby, grand-sun and my moms in law decided to venture here today for lunch.. I had been to the restaurant when they were at a different location during the pandemic and I must say I'm so glad I found them again! The food is cooked made to order fresh and delicious. The service was top notch (what else would you expect from Warren Central graduates) #goDubC and I love the art work that's hung on the walls that's actually for sale and it appears it's from local artist to boot! Will most definitely be back!

The biggest drawback after 2 visits is low staffing which leads to long wait times for food. The wait time for tables and getting in your order is little. The food is outstanding in terms of price and flavors. I was so impressed with their menu, new location, and kind service. You might miss this black building with not much signage just diagonal from UIndy. They have free parking in their lot and serve up big flavors inside. You can sit at the bar or at a table and peer right into the kitchen. The portions are huge, and I can't wait to eat my leftovers!

Nice location. Easy to get to. Food and service is amazing. We went for lunch and came back for breakfast two days later. Not disappointed. The ribeye steak and eggs were perfect. The stuffed French toast with bourbon camel was delicious. And the honey garlic chicken bowl is to die for. Still need to come back to try the bread pudding. The wild rice was amazing so much flavor and perfect with the grilled chicken.

Do not sleep on this gem of a restaurant! Went there for brunch this morning with no preconceived notions, and was completely blown out of the water. In our brunch party of four, everyone loved their meal. I selected the cinnamon toast crunch French toast with the bourbon caramel syrup, and I can say with no hesitation that it is literally the best French toast I've ever had in my life. The location is in a bit of a rough area, but it's worth it. Parking lot is private, but be careful going over the train tracks just a few hundred feet away. On a Sunday morning, you may want to make reservations if you have a larger party to ensure you get a table. Eboni was our server and she was wonderful. Another really cool draw of this restaurant is that the walls are hung with prints by local artists, and the paintings are available for purchase if you see one you like!

Food: wowowow the shrimp po boy was so good! Not normally one for fried shrimp but the bread was perfectly dense, the lettuce fresh and the perfect ratio of sauce to sandwich! Yum! The OKR salad was lovely and had extremely fresh tasting produce (where are they sourcing these veggies?!). The only downside was that they were out of olives. House strawberry vinaigrette was well balanced and delicious! Service - great! Our servers checked in on us regularly and my glass was never empty. Ambience- I like the industrial bar vibe and the open concept seating area had a nice flow. Plenty of parking available though I wouldn't mind if they cut down on parking in favour of a small patio! Location was a bit odd, Indianapolis needs to build sidewalks and stop developing a city for cars. We had to take a 2 min Uber to the restaurant because there were literally no side walks in the area and OKR is along a busy street. Don't mind me just throwing a bit of shade to the city of Indy in case anyone in local government ever reads my review. This is a great spot for all meal types from a casual date to a groups meal out! Would recommend.

GO! Go there now! The food is phenomenal! The atmosphere is chill and relaxing. Service was impeccable! We ordered to go and I couldn't even wait to get out of the building to sneak into my Brussel sprouts (with very good reasoning) I wanted to climb in the bag everything smelled so good! I had the smothered chicken and it was amazing - the banana pudding cheesecake may become an addiction..... I can't wait to try so many other things from the menu - most importantly breakfast, I could eat breakfast every meal - I'll update with breakfast details! But 10/10 highly recommend!!! read more

What a delicious surprise! This is one of those "hole in the wall type of restaurants" that are hidden gems. I I was lucky enough to have the last salmon. At 6:00 on a Saturday night, they were already out of shrimp and salads. The food was seasoned perfectly. Even the broccoli was seasoned well! My husband got the smothered chicken and thought it was really good- prepared well and seasoned appropriately. He even gave the mashed potatoes two thumbs up! The buffalo Brussels were a pleasant surprise - not saucy and the right level of heat. The place has very limited seating. The drinks were just okay. We were too full for dessert but look forward to coming back to try their breakfast! The wait staff were attentive and friendly. read more

Love this place!!! Since we discovered Open Kitchen, we've been back at least once a week. The food is phenomenal! I especially love the avocado burger. Crispy bun, flavorful burger, perfect toppings....I'm drooling. I've also tried the salmon, smothered chicken, and Brussels sprouts and every single item is delicious. The owners are so nice and welcoming. It's a little hard to find the place but definitely worth finding. read more

I can't believe I waited this long to eat here! Friendly attentive staff, welcoming casual atmosphere. The food is fabulous! Shrimp skewers were a huge hit, Cajun salmon was perfectly done, and the honey garlic chicken over potatoes did not disappoint. Sides were so good, but brussel sprouts stole the show. Mac and cheese is delicious. Great experience, and we will return! read more

What a great little place. I read another review that said don't judge a book by its cover. My wife and I stopped in due to some positive yelp reviews we saw. Absolutely worth it. I took my family of 8 here for my birthday tonight. My granddaughters are one and two years old. Can I say amazing, wonderful, excellent, fantastic, and so accommodating to my grandchildren. The food was perfect. I've never been anyplace that ask what temp someone wanted their salmon. The burgers and steaks were perfectly cooked. The brussell sprouts were delicious and I don't normally like them! When we first pulled up to this tiny building, we were apprehensive but were quickly surprised by how delicious the food was. If you want an excellent meal without loud blaring music, this is the place. The staff bent over backwards to make it a great evening. read more

Have to say. Never had seen or heard of Open Kitchen before being gifted a gift card there. People need to know about it. Quality quality food. For dinner had two burgers, Mac and cheese, loaded potatoes, asparagus, Caesar Salad, and chocolate cheese cake. Each item done so well. Each item has its own taste and didn't taste like anything else. Will absolutely be coming back for breakfast and lunch to try new food and support this newly married couple! Will definitely be becoming regulars. Must try. read more

I had an amazing meal tonight. My husband ordered the Butter Crab Pasta, which was delicious, but my Bourbon Glazed Lamb Chops with Whipped Mashed Potatoes and veggies was the winner. Driving by Indy and stopped here because of Yelp reviews! So worth the drive! The food is delicious! Husband had the crab Benedict and licked the plate. I had the breakfast bowl with sausage. Enough for two people! Such fresh and from scratch taste. Loaded with roasted tomato's, avocados and fresh herbs. Potatos were real not frozen hashed. Biscuits are wonderful. We just Googled restaurants near me and found this. The reviews were good, so we thought we would give it a try. Not only were we not disappointed but it was good from the moment we walked in. Small restaurant, but I think every employee had some interaction, all positive and friendly. We had the signature old fashion cocktail, unique and delicious. My husband ordered the house salad with the fried chicken. He said the chicken was delicious. I ended up with the salmon, and honestly I think it was the best salmon I have ever had in a restaurant. I ate the best Eggs Benedict I've ever had in my life with a hollandaise sauce that was seriously on point. Highly recommend that. I wish I had taken a photo of it before I dug in. The presentation was beautiful and most importantly, it tasted incredible. read more

Got the Hot and Fluffy breakfast at 3pm and was 10 minutes late picking it up. They close at 3 and I didn't get there until 3:10. Food was still piping hot. I've taken one bite of everything and am so glad I came here today. read more

Nice little hole in the wall restaurant. We were seated right away and our server was very friendly. Beers and drinks came quickly and our order was taken. My son's kids meal came out first which was appreciated as 3-year olds aren't great at waiting. The kids Mac n Cheese was a huge portion! Not from a box, definitely homemade! My husband and my brother both got cheeseburgers. My brother's came medium-well the way he ordered it. My husband's was overcooked for medium but the waitress did ask if they were cooked to their liking and he did not complain. My Dad got the chicken wings. They were not what he expected, they had very little meat but plenty of sauce. I ordered the smothered chicken, it was a huge portion and it was absolutely amazing. It came with mashed potatoes and another side which I chose Mac n Cheese not knowing my son's portion would be so large. Needless to say I had to box a lot up to take home. It did take quite a while to get our food but we probably wouldn't have minded it we didn't have a Pacer's game to get to. read more

This is our second time trying to eat at this place and it's our very last time! I do not encourage you to waste your time out your money. Don't be fooled by the other reviews like we were. First time going there we arrived without a reservation, and there were only two tables seated with people. The host told us it would be about a 45 min wait!!!! We looked around confused because there were maybe 6 people at most waiting/eating food. So we left, strike one. We went today with a reservation because we did want to try to give "the people"a second chance thinking maybe it's worth the reservation. Same amount of people eating/waiting and we were seated immediately. Waiter comes ask if we want drinks and specifically said we have a bar. We wanted to order an alcohol drink and then she said well we don't have a full bar and everything we suggested they didn't have.. fine no problem, we ordered a coke and orange juice. She can back with the drinks and explained further what they didn't have available on the menu due to no fresh produce. No bowls/skillets, no burritos, no shrimp or chicken. We looked at the menu and decided that pretty much we were getting basic breakfast for $15 that we can make at home and not waste here. We advised the waiter we will not be eating here since they didn't have anything we wanted. She said ok (she was polite) but still charged us $7.50 for the coke (I didn't drink) and the orange juice that she insisted we take with us because it was freshly squeezed. We paid and we left. It's so hard trying to give "the people" a chance and we fail every time!!! Like I said don't waste your time or your money. Go to Longhorn like we did. Smh read more

I stopped in with 2 buddies after golf for breakfast. I had zero expectations as I was not aware of anything about this small restaurant. Sat down, took our order and was absolutely blown away with the food. Everything was served hot and seasoned to absolute perfection. Not sure where this Chef was trained but he puts his own personal touch on each and every dish he brings to the table. As I told our server this is the best breakfast I've had in the last 30 years...maybe 40. I don't think you could have a bad meal here. read more

My coffee was refilled promptly. It was packed on this Juneteenth holiday morning, but one of my favorite things on this morning was the kindness of the owner stopping by and greeting customers. The chicken udon noodles were fantastic- packed full of flavor and tons of toppings in it. The short rib fell a little short of my expectations, but I had high expectations to begin with. We have had the short rib multiple times in the past- and normally it is a hunk of meat, similar to a roast. Now, it is strips of tiny pieces of meat with a bone attached to it. If the owner/general manager is reading this- GO BACK TO THE ROAST STYLE- the strips of meat was too much work to eat. Still packed full of great flavor though. I had the bridge to Anshun for my drink. I had never had Baiju before, but glad I tried it. It was a tangy drink that was also sweet- would say it's a must try. Overall, some changes since our last visit that weren't expected, but overall had a great evening here. Can't wait to return.
