Great food, great atmosphere, great service and Chocola! My husband has very fond memories of drinking Chocola when he was a child. Unable to find Chocola for sale, we dug in and researched where we might find this elusive Chocola drink and low and behold, we found the owners of Rock Cola Cafe were carrying on the tradition of producing and selling this fine soda. On our way home from a road trip, we decided to add a stop at the Rock Cola Cafe and we were not disappointed. Since I am not a mid-westerner, I had never even heard of Chocola, but one taste and I'm sold! The cafe itself is clean, quaint and inviting with walls, doors and ceilings covered in memorabilia that will keep you busy reminiscing and smiling. OMG! This is a really fun place to go. Especially for all of us Boomers who the nostalgia of our youth! We came in with 16 ladies, and there were other patrons as well, but the speed the food came out was amazing! Not one person in our had a complaint, and thats saying something for 16 "mature" women. We all loved the 1950's theme decor, and they had the real thing when it came to decor ! Our server was awesome(I don't remember her name ) but she had the patience of Mother Theresa and still a fun side, which we loved too. GO! You will love it too! read more

My husband and I decided to try out this little diner for breakfast today. After locking the address into our GPS, we still managed to miss it once we had arrived. It's really small and inconspicuous. Once we found it, we saw that the parking lot was nearly full and there were 3 open tables and space at the counter available. The young woman who served us was very nice and checked in with us often. The food came out fast and was decent. My husband and I both ordered a Short Breakfast plate, which came with 2 eggs cooked your way, your choice of sausage or bacon, and your choice of toast. We also ordered 2 slices of French toast, a la carte. The eggs were cooked right and the toast was buttery. No complaints there. My issue was with the cleanliness of the place. There was food on the floor beneath our booth and cobwebs covering the dollar bills that decorated the ceiling. As a matter of fact, all of the 1950's memorabilia was dusty and dirty. Also, we were given a huge bottle of creamer that sat on our table the entire time while we ate. This practice doesn't seem very sanitary to me, and it's just a bit unconventional. Sadly, at the end of my meal, I noticed a hair stuck to the inside of my soda cup. Ugh...barf! Despite all of that, this place seems to be a neighborhood favorite, as it was full to capacity when we left with a party that had just walked in sitting down at the table we'd just gotten up from before it could even be cleaned! My husband loves diners and we're on the hunt for a good one, but we won't be making the drive out to this one again...ever. This your classic "greasy spoon": it ain't fancy but the portions and big and the coffee refills are plentiful. It's also got a 50's theme, which many of these types of joints do. I got the steak and eggs, and it was just as you would expect it to be. Basic plating and big burly steak with with scrambled eggs nestled right up to it. A fun throwback diner with cool memorabilia. It's small, but there was no wait for a table when we came for breakfast/brunch. The food is diner quality and comes out fast. The hashbrowns are the good shredded potato kind with perfectly crisp edges and a soft middle. Prices are reasonable and staff is fun and fast. I got the smoked sausage sandwich and onion rings. The sausage was cooked perfectly, it was juicy and flavorful and had a nice snap when biting into it. The onion rings were delicious and stayed nice and crispy. My partner got the omelette with 4 eggs. It was quite big, and it was also really good. The people were friendly and service was great. Our food came out pretty fast and it was hot and fresh. This diner is located in Irvington, in a less visited area, but definitely deserves a visit. Parking was on the side of the building. First of all this place is small, and it is my new favorite breakfast spot. Biscuits and gravy had great favor, the waffle was fluffy, eggs and hash browns perfect. This has to be the best kept secret in all of Indianapolis. read more

There's only a handful of parking spots and tables to match. The decor is what you'd expect given the name. The staff is friendly and the food was quality. We did not try the choc-ola but I hear it's tasty and nostalgic. My mom and I ordered some sandwiches while the kids got chicken and burgers. My mom stated it was one of the better Rubens that she's had and trust me when I say, she's an aficionado. I ordered the mile high club and some fries. I definitely did not need the fries. The sandwich lived up to its moniker. The kids liked their food but adored their milkshakes. So much so they were put down for the count for a bit! We finally made it over to this nostalgic establishment this morning to enjoy Sunday breakfast. We knew this place was going to be good when we pulled into the lot and there were no parking spots available. Plus they look like they haven't had a renovation in 50 years so any place that looks like they're not trying to impress anyone with bells and whistles must be a master of their griddle! Boy, were we right! With only three friendly and welcoming staff coordinating the customer service of the whole restaurant, these folks crank out top notch diner cuisine! Offering such old timey plates as fried bologna sandwiches, malts, and Choc-Cola, they definitely have something for everyone. I opted for the Short Breakfast which was only $6.99! As soon as my plate arrived, I could smell the stick of butter in my Texas toast, and I immediately fell in love with the place! I stole a nibble of my boyfriend's Philly cheesesteak which was a total game changer! This tiny but mighty diner has it figured out! The only snag we could foresee is that the place is very popular and has extremely limited seating so it wouldn't take much to cause a wait, but the neighborhood locals who frequent the place seem to move in and out with precision. Rock-Cola is a kitschy, retro diner filled with vintage decor and a typical diner menu. We stopped in around 10am on Mother's Day. My mom picked this restaurant since they are the only ones who have Chocola and that is what she wanted. We have been before a few years ago so this was our second visit. It's a small building, with just about 5 or 6 tables, plus barstools at the counter. There were a few single diners and another family when we were there. Since it's so small, you seat yourself and often the servers were just calling out from behind the counter to get your drink order. I saw one gentleman get up and get his own drink, but he may have just been a regular who felt comfortable doing so since I didn't see anyone else who did that. My mom and brother had Chocola but I opted for coffee. The servers refilled my cup several times throughout our visit. We had a few different servers but overall they were friendly. We ordered right away and it took about 10 minutes to get our food. I had the biscuits and gravy. I ordered the full but a half would've been plenty. My brother had the lumberjack omelette and my mom had the short breakfast. Everything was delicious. The hashbrowns were the best I've ever had, they were super crunchy and greasy. The only issue we had was one of our servers was more than a little peeved when we attempted to order something to go after we ate. She was fine when we cleared up that we only wanted a piece of pie to go, nothing that needed to be cooked. read more

We discovered this gem in 2023 while staying at an Airbnb nearby. We're in town every year to attend the Drum Corps International Championships at Lucas Oil Stadium and are always looking for local restaurants to dine at. This cute little diner does not disappoint! This is a small diner where everyone seems to know your name and has really delicious food! My husband and I each had some of the best hashbrowns we've ever had, absolutely done to perfection. Rock-Cola Cafe is a smaller less known diner, close to my home that I have been wanting to try for a while now. Upon walking in I realize the diner was very small and only had about 7 booths and a few single seats at the counter. I did notice a sign they had saying that there were only three workers so to be kind and patient. I was expecting a long wait considering almost every booth was taken since we went to eat on an early Sunday morning but they were very fast with getting our drinks, taking our order, and serving the food!!! However when walking in I was IMMEDIATELY drawn to all the vintage decor!!! They have tons of famous music artists pictures on the walls such as Elvis Presley! They also had all these cool signs and toys from the 50's!!! It seemed as if a lot of the guest knew the workers as they were having casual conversations which I LOVE to see!!! I'm guessing a lot of the people were usuals that day! The workers really care about you and your experience while there!! My boyfriend and I both got the french toast combo. I got it with sausage and he got it with bacon. This combo was only $7.99 each!! Although the sausage was a little chewy for my liking the french toast was wonderful and the bacon was the perfect blend of not too crispy and not too chewy! It was all hot and fresh though, and they make it right in front of you which is a neat experience! It may not be a fine dining restaurant but it feels like a homey place to definitely continue going to and the experience was definitely worth it! And you can't beat the prices. Everyone was very friendly and did a great job at checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed. Food was fresh and delivered promptly. I had the Pasos (which is kind of like a Mexican sloppy joes). Normally it comes on a bun but I ordered it without it. It came out hot and fresh. It's a bit more like taco meat than a sloppy joes which it was great for me. The grilled onions and peppers really made the dish. I would definitely order this again. This is a blast from the past on Indianapolis' east side. The building doesn't look like much and it's pretty hot inside, but it's a cute, retro diner that's worth visiting at least once. Service was good and portions are enormous. Very reasonably priced for the amount of food you get. All typical diner menu items like burgers, tenderloins, fries and onion rings.
