Good quality food and large variety of options. In my opinion this is the best UBC dining hall due to the food quality and selection as well as the modern, clean facilities. However, the prices run rather high for the small portions.

The owner, Colin Lo, greeted us and made us feel quite welcome. You order by filling out a little slip of paper indicating what kind of noodle, meat, and vegetables you want (one paper for each person). Colin then makes what you order and delivers it to your table. No one standing at the door showing you a menu and making you feel guilty if you don't come in, no fancy crystal wine glasses, no table cloths, no waiters dressed as penguins, no background music. Just a nice guy whose been doing this for decades in the same place, good, fresh, wholesome food, and good value for money. Pro tip: the portion size is good but not huge, so if you like to eat a lot, order extra noodles ($1.50 extra).

A big thank you to Mallory and the kitchen staff! This review is 3 months late, but even a few months later, we remember our meal like it was yesterday and can't wait to return the next time we're in Vancouver. Getting to experience a Michelin Guide-recommended vegan restaurant was one of the highlights of our trip! We had (from the June 2025 menu): the Bread, the Broccolini, the Chickpea Tofu, and the Potato Cavatelli. Not a single crumb, morsel, drizzle of sauce, or even pea was left on the plates! Every bite was so full of flavor and decadent, we were so sad when the meal was over ;) The stand-out though was the Chickpea Tofu, the best tofu we've ever had and it seemed to just melt in your mouth. We also loved sitting at the bar that overlooks the open kitchen. They offer those seats for guests who want a more immersive, interactive dining experience. It was really cool to watch the chefs create each masterpiece. Overall a truly memorable and delicious experience!

They helped with suggestions and I appreciated the explanation when each dish came out. Lovely space inside and had a nice little corner to carry on lovely conversation. Would go back again -- and soon! They change their menu every few weeks.

I'm not a huge burger fan but the rice 'bread' was appealing along with their Japanese flavors. We got the beef and chicken katsu and they were neatly packaged in a takeaway box. The person working there was very friendly and attentive. Upon seeing we would eat outside he brought out additional napkins and paper plates for us. I guess he knew it could get messy unless you eat really quick. The flavor was good and I enjoyed the rice element. I found it didn't stick to my fingers, had a nice chew to it and complimented the meat. The sauce definitely made the rice crumble a bit towards the end so I would try turning it over to finish the last bites if you're taking your time.

They have EXTENSIVE dessert options! I was too stuffed to even consider but they have ice creams, cookies, cakes! I ordered their buffalo chicken wrap (comes with mayo, onions, lettuce, and tomatoes). I'm not sure what chicken they use but it's delicious. The wrap itself could have been heated more to make it pliable. The lettuce is crispy and adds a perfect bite. I prefer a lot of lettuce so I was happy with the ratio! I also ordered their cauliflower tempura with sweet chili sauce! It was delicious and the batter was perfectly spiced. Food was delicious, service was super friendly and casual! But yeah, for me they lose a star because they have "vegan" in their name but they're not all-vegan and I'm not super sure staff understands the difference between "vegetarian" and "vegan" just yet.

It seems like they have tried to blow up the UBC location, and so even though things are a couple of dollars less expensive than at the Broadway location, the portion sizes are smaller. I also find that the food at the UBC location is often dry and or cold and it's not nearly as fresh as the Broadway location. For the donair, chicken, and shawarma meat, for example, they cut it off and set it in trays which are then set on the back counter in the back of the restaurant, not on a warmer. Warmer. This means that when you get your food the meat is usually lukewarm at best. This is very different than the Broadway location where everything is kept in warming trays. The women who work behind the counter and handle the cash register also wear gloves that they do not change. You can observe them handling cash and interacting with customers and handling trash containers, and then they'll go grab somebody's pita shell and stick their gloves in the lettuce and tomatoes and make a sandwich. That's just nasty.
