This was such a treat! I have never been to an all-vegan sushi restaurant before. They don't make everything from scratch (e.g., the spring rolls and gyozas), but that doesn't even matter. The food was so delicious. We got the gyozas, tofu katsu, california roll, dynamite roll, and summer roll. Everything was so good! Our server was very attentive and kind. It's a small , intimate restaurant, which I prefer. The parking was pretty easy and only about $3 USD for 2 hours.

A true vegan spot specializing in plant based sushi and Asian cuisine. Located in Kerrisdale, quaint and cute neighborhood of Vancouver; this restaurant was founded on a philosophy of plant base diet. Often times you would normally see vegetarian Mock meats only used for main entrées, very rarely for sushi, and nigiri. Yet this place proved that it is possible. The host is a very sweet Japanese lady who greets and seats you promptly. Quick note; she may ask any visitor if they are OK with onion and garlic, there are a few items that are made with it, but there's a possibility they may be able to make entrées without them, so just ask! A complementary bowl of miso soup was given. The two kinds of rolls, I ordered were the spam teriyaki roll, and the Shoku roll. I've never tried spam ever in my life, and often wondered what the consistency would've been like. But I was very surprised; it has a similar consistency like beyond meat (but it's not beyond meat when I asked) There was certainly no flavor lacking. The next one was the Shoku roll; I think this was one of my top favorite vegetarian rolls. It was spicy vegan crab, with vegan tuna, complimented with a mango glaze on the side, and what I feel is tapioca pearls in the form of Fish row.roe. (back in the day when I've eaten real sushi, I was never a fan of Fish roe, but did not mind it this time). Be sure to let them know if you are not comfortable with having it as a topping. They are very understanding and accommodating. At this point, I was hoping to try a third roll, but I had no space. So till next time, go support them so they can make it to their one year mark and many more!

What a surprise! I accidentally came across this resto thanks to Uber Eats. Not a hard core vegan but I don't mind having this type once in awhile The fried California rolls were an extra special treat with that crunch and flavour We ordered agedashi tofu, crunch (california) rolls and a vegan chicken teriyaki bowl A nice treat that I would recommend to any vegan die-hards (find me on IG @aida.loves )

The food at vegan shoku was great. Great taste and beautiful presentation. We ordered salmon on fire sushi, tuna avocado oshi, gyoza, spring rolls and tiramisu. I can say without a doubt that everything tasted amazing!!! Will come back for sure! The service was extremely warm and pleasant.

Amazing vegan sushi, exceptional selection, quality ingredients, stellar service. We were seated immediately, and almost everything we ate, from the calamari starter to the hazelnut cake finish, was phenomenal. Fantastic place for vegans.

Extremely creative and impressively executed all-vegan sushi and more. What a vegan paradise this is. I heard through an online post that this place had recently opened, so my wife and I had to check it out. They have an extensive menu of very creative sushi, plus many more Japanese staples. We ordered a variety of stuff to share, which turned out to be the right amount. We got: -Goma-ae ($6.50) -- top-notch goma-ae, not too sweet, and made with a really nice black sesame paste. Extremely well-executed. 5/5 -Spicy agedashi tofu ($9.95 plus tax) -- this was the only thing we got that was rather disappointing. The tofu was served deep fried not covered in the sauce -- the sauce was separate, so the sauce did not have time to marinate the tofu at all, and the result was an agedashi tofu that was rather flavourless. Also, it wasn't remotely spicy. For the price, it was also poor value. Skip this one. 2.5/5 -Beef teriyaki roll ($8.00 plus tax). The "beef" is made with thinly sliced soy marinated in teriyaki. Big hearty roll, very satisfying and impressively true to the original. 5/5 -Futo maki ($11.95 plus tax). I've always loved this classic roll, so when I see vegan versions of it, I jump at it. Great textures with the different veggies and tied together by the inari. Over-priced for what you get but well-executed. 4.5/5 -Avocado cream cheese roll ($6.00 plus tax). This was fantastic. I guess they use some sort of tofu product for the cream cheese, which has the perfect creamy texture and is flavoured very nicely, complementing the avocado. Kick ass. 5/5 -Dynamite roll ($7.95) -- I haven't had the real dynamite roll in over a decade, so I can't really compare, but the textures were right. Very satisfying. 4.5/5 -Spicy salmon nigiri ($8.50) -- it's annoying that you have to order the Nigiri in 2pcs/order, and it's very expensive (I know nowhere else that you pay $4+ per Nigiri pc). That said, this was very nicely done -- not really salmon-like and not spicy, but nicely flavoured and textured. 3.5/5 Top-notch, friendly service who gave us free miso soup to start. Everything was presented beautifully and we enjoyed most things. Priced high but ultimately worth it given the niche market this is serving. Highly recommended.

They have a private room in the back that fits a party of 14. You can call in advance to book. Really friendly service! My group was a group of 13 and the waitress and owner came to say hi. Great food, great aesthetic. Super vegan friendly, and great for those of us who don't eat onion or garlic. :) Would recommend!!

They seated me next to another party of 1 and the atmosphere was so great that her and I actually connected and became friends. The service was amazing. The server gave me so much info about the restaurant and offerings, but it felt fun and conversational and not like I was being flooded with information. He knew exactly when to check on me and was able to guide me in the ordering process since I was unfamiliar with the menu. I ended up getting a lovely 9oz pour of sav blanc to pair with my meal. The edamame was lovely. Way too much for one person, but not expensive. Ended up sharing with other solo diners. The tofu salad was incredible. I have never had anything like that in my life. It doesn't sound exciting, but it is a true adventure in textures and flavors. I wish I could recreate it, but it was just too special to even attempt. I got their specialty, which was a salmon aburri sushi. It melted in my mouth. So much flavor, perfect texture. I like sushi, but am not an adventurous eater in the world of seafood, so played it safe. This is a meal I will think about for years. The gal next to me got a sampler platter and said the salmon was her fave, so I am so happy I got a plate full of it. Will be back 100 times over.

Maybe it's an American thing to linger and enjoy a dining experience. To stay longer than needed to…read moresoak up the ambiance and give a good moment some extra time for memories. But in other parts of the world the meal is what's important and so is a quick turn around. Guu with Garlic reminded me a lot of the Izakaya restaurants I found under the train lines of Tokyo in many ways, including the amount of time it felt right to stay. The food came out quick, the servers took orders quicker, and the alcohol came out chilled and as nice contrast to the hot food. Looking around and you see the hand written menu on blackboard surfaces on the walls and this feeling of authenticity. The heat of the flames from the kitchen can be felt and seen if you sit at the bar. And the flavors just hit all the right notes. Starting with appetizers, a section izakayas shine at, the first dish we got was their scallop and mayo pizza. With a crispy crunch on the bottom and crust, this reminds you of the flavors of a baked volcano roll or scallop roll you can find in almost any North American sushi restaurant. Just like that dish, it's important to eat it while it's still hot so it doesn't get gross and 느끼 에. Then came the yellowtail tuna "tempura" pieces. Thick pieces of yellowtail tuna flash fried for just the right crisp on the outside with slight pink of the fish inside. It is meaty without being oily or fatty. Great bite. The beef tongue after was interesting. From the color of the sauce it accompanies it you would think it would be heavy in flavor but it is actually light and citrusy. A good cut into the richer tones of the beef tongue. The yaki udon was one of the best I ever had. It was smokey without being overpowering. The beef was thin and tender and balanced well with the mushrooms it also came with. The udon noodles stayed bouncy and chewy which I didn't expect from being grilled. Very tasty and highly recommend this dish. For our final bite we shared a hot stone bowl of their pork and cabbage rice. With the hot stone bowl constantly cooking even after this dish arrived it was imperative to stir the ingredients together constantly for the first two minutes. It allowed for the runny egg to meld with the rice and the crispy texture of some ingredients was a nice bonus. All in all, I loved eating here and if my appetite was bigger I would've tried more on their menu. A solid place to eat with a great atmosphere, if you're looking for delicious food that won't take too much of your time but still lingers in your memories you have to check out Guu with Garlic.

Still comes with a little side of pickles, and unlimited rice, cabbage, and miso soup. No katsu sauce. The katsu was fried to perfection. Juicy, tender, cant complain. But since they serve it in a broth, it does get soggy really quick. Still good, but after a few minutes its just soggy. The broth is nice with rice; comforting kind of meal. The unlimited rice/soup/cabbage is just icing on the cake. My dining partner had the Kake udon (pretty good, noodles good texture and slightly smaller strands than most places) and Menchi Cheese side - basically a pork meatball with cheese and deep fried katsu-style, served with katsu sauce. This was excellent. My original review still stands. At the start, guests sit in silence as a black screen conceals the chefs. You see their shadows moving behind it. A bell rings, the screen lifts, and the performance begins. Dinner is a 25+ course experience priced at $325 per person. It's undeniably a splurge, but for a milestone celebration, it feels justified. The menu is seafood-forward, with many ingredients flown in from Japan. Each ingredient is presented before preparation, then carefully assembled and served directly from chef to guest. Courses arrive one by one, never rushed. The service team moves seamlessly in the background, refilling water and attending to drinks (available as an add-on) without disrupting the flow. The finale is a matcha ceremony, whisked in front of you with the same quiet precision that defines the evening. When the final sip is taken, the bell chimes once more, the chefs and staff bow, and the screens close. Me, I know nothing about Izakaya or what is or isn't authentic Japanese cuisine, so this review is coming from someone with zero knowledge or expectation of any specific foods or experiences. Despite it being a weeknight, the place was packed. It was good that we had a reservation. There was a couple in line before me and they were walk-ins, and there were no available seats for them. I noted how small this place was, and crowded, with the tables close together and a long bar with a counter and barstools there (also close together). Our reserved table was right by the front door - literally, - so every time the door opened, we got a gust of cold air (and it was a cold February night when we were there). I kept my coat on. Truth be known, I was not very comfortable. Also, it was loud. Very loud. I like how the staff shout Japanese greetings to diners whenever they enter but between the frequent shouts and the sheer volume of chatter from all the diners, all sitting close together in close proximity, it was kinda hard to hear what my friends were saying during our dinner. That said, the environment was super vibrant and, again, my friends said this was very typical of an Izakaya in Japan. Food-wise, I have no idea what my friends ordered. The menu was primarily available by way of a QR code and I had no idea what the dishes were, so I deferred to my friends' knowledge. But I can attest that all the dishes were DELICIOUS. We had some sort of Japanese street food "pancakes" (they were wonderful). We had some sort of stirfry beef with noodles (amazing). We had two types of sashimi (omg both were so fresh and so so good!). We had a few other dishes that I can't recall, but I remember I loved them. So.... the food here was GREAT. Service was also attentive which I hadn't expected, being as busy as the restaurant was. I really liked this place but I'll probably go back in the summertime when the weather is nicer as I was cold there, and I'd dine at an off-time, when the volume wasn't so loud. (I'm too old for the loudness!).

SOCKEYE SALMON SASHIMI- very fresh and thick slices. I had one piece - good. MENTAIKO YAKI UDON - My favorite food item from our entire trip. Omg. I can sit there all day long and just eat this. I always order this when I see it on the menu and some places really don't do a good job. VEGETABLE UDON SOUP - for our toddler
