Just moved into sugar grove and decided to try this place out because this place is busy- EVERY.DAY. the drinks weee great, the food was amazing and the service, well it was mediocre. Granted we were patient because we understand the world is chaotic right now with this pandemic and staff shortages. But the food was amazing, the Calzones are massive and can easily be shared by 4 people unless you're an eater or are hungry. I highly recommend this place! read more

Pleasantly surprised & way too excited to come back! -- Have you ever been to Sugar Grove? Because until last month, I had barely heard of it! But my dad moved here and it's a pretty small, quaint village. In terms of restaurants, you are EXTREMELY limited - but Open Range makes that EXTREMELY okay! ;-) As a vegetarian, you tend to worry about options in small towns - but not here. This place had a wide selection for me to chose from, but nothing can top their veggie burgers - The Beyond Burger, from Beyond Beef. And not going to lie, it was the first time I had a veggie burger and questioned if I just bit into a real (meat) burger. I had to have the whole table try it, it was SO tasty! (Everyone loved it.) And yes, it was truly a vegetarian burger. ANDDD they offer pretzel buns for their burgers, so um 100% yes, please. These veggie burgers, paired with their impressive craft beer selection, make this place a hidden gem in this not so famous town. I have gone here three times in the past month (no shame) and everyone I go with loves their dishes (include all the meat eaters.) It does get extremely busy on the weekends, so don't be surprised if there is a wait - but it is worth it, so just hang in there. Meal sides (Mac and cheese, Brussels sprouts, green beans), were delicious, however, "smoked" brisket was over cooked and apparently cooked with liquid smoke as we are still tasting it two hours later. . Prime Rib Dip was not worth repeating. Server could've been more attentive or maybe additional standing around staff could've helped out. On the fence about giving this place another try. Not a bad experience for a neighborhood golf course "19th Hole" bar and grill restaurant. We started with the Ranch Hand fries, which were phenomenal. The plate of waffle-cut fries, smothered in queso, applewood bacon bits, and shredded jack cheese, were plentiful and could easily feed 4-6 as an appetizer. My wife ordered a chicken Caesar salad, which was a nice size for the price. She said it was good and tasted very fresh, but had a little more Caesar dressing than she would prefer. Maybe put the dressing on the side, guys? I had the pulled pork sandwich with side of baked beans. The sandwich was tasty, but had an over-abundance of slightly-better-than-average sauce, which detracted from the pork, which was very tender, juicy, and could have definitely stood on its own. The beans were fantastic, however, with sweet-tangy sauce and pieces of smoky brisket added in. We'll try Open Range again, but it'll be for the grass-fed steaks I've read about. read more

Not my first visit by any means but fresh on my mind. Monday night and buy one pizza, get one free. Thin, crispy crust and generous, fresh toppings. Two of our party had the pizza and they loved it. When in town ( from the NM back country) they have it every night and fancy themselves conisseurs. I had the Kansas City burger sans bun. See the picture. Beautiful to behold: A burger cooked to your specs covered with pulled pork barbecue and jicama slaw with onion tendrils ( crispy and verly lightly breaded.) Lots of leftovers as portions are big. Frequent here about once a month, probably won't go back. Food quality has declined: my husband's BAKED $16 fish fry had a disgusting coating on it that was thick, pastie & never should've been on a baked cod meal. I ordered Baja chicken which was served without it's toppings! Hello? I had to ask for the guac & pico. All that is forgivable to us but the bartenders on duty, Dani & Carly were acting like trampy 15 year olds. Doing shots with customers and eating behind the bar. We gave it another shot. Disappointed again. Service super slow and not attentive. It was busy but not unusual. Waited 30 minutes for food. Got all you can eat fish which was old and thick. My margarita was good, would have liked another. Drinks empty and Christine never offered refill. Husband ordered molten lava cake to cheer me up. It was rubbery. We want to love this place again. Ok. So I have been here around 5 times since my first review. I think its about time I change it. I dont plan to go back for starters. The brisket sandwich i love so much came to be cold this time, and last time it was full of fat. My husband got the fried cod and he said it wasn't very good. My daughter got the kids salad bar and soup. She was trampled by people trying to get salad so I had to step in. Not to mention as soon as she went for soup after a 5 minute line it was gone and not re-filled (even when we told the wait staff) for about 20 minutes when we were leaving. I ordered pizza from here a Monday where it's buy one get one free (still $25 bucks) and although it had potential it was burnt! Im not blaming this on the restaurant but we did experience a bout of racism from an older lady toward my 11 year old daughter when she was in line for the salad bar. I also noticed we are the only african american family every time we come and it never bothered me until then. I was in love with this restaurant at one point but im sure if the owner knew how obviously its bad service that is changing people's minds he'd be upset. I am very disappointed in my experience here. I expected a nice place since it was a country club. I met my friends here to see a band and arrived around 9:30 on a Saturday. We sat down with our friends who already had a table. I grabbed a menu and knew what I wanted. The waitress came around and I ordered. My boyfriend was not ready to order food but did order his drink as well as the other friend we arrived with. The waitress never returned to take their food orders. 10 mins later when she returned with his drink( the wrong one) she ran off so quickly he couldn't order food. 10 mins after this, we flagged her down finally to order and she says the kitchen is closed.... So now we don't know what to do, I am not sure while a bar would stop serving food at 10. The waitress comes back later and says maybe she can get some food for us. So my bf and friend order their food and she comes back and says all the kitchen workers have left. After she tells us this, she comes out carrying a huge tray of freshly made food for another table. Ugh.. The others who didn't eat, made other accommodations. We saw one table that brought in Wendy's. At one point our friend was so frustrated that the bartender noticed and came and took their drink orders. Once it came time to get our bills, she dropped them off and never came back to pick them up. I waited about 20 mins for her to pick up my check and eventually my friend just walked up to her and gave it to her. We meet here once a month on Monday for book club. So far the times I have been there the food has been great. The ranch is really good. On Monday they have buy 1 get 1 for their pizzas, so thats nice. I always add on a salad as well. Next time, I'm going to try something other than the pizza. read more

Most often, we take out pizza from Open Range. The pizza is very good, Chicago style, pizza and a good value. There are at least two private rooms for parties. We have used both and had support from the staff. It is a good value. The restaurant is cozy and the menu is varied. The soup and salad bar is well stocked. read more

I believe it's Mondays or one of the weekdays when it's buy 1 get 1 free pizza nights. Their pizza is pretty awesome. I hosted our local food pantry Volunteer Appreciation Party at Open Range in their Pine Room. The food was amazing and the service was outstanding! Sara who has been there since the restaurants opening took such wonderful care of us. I highly recommend this restaurant for dining in or hosting a party. Went here for a brunch event on a Saturday and the route to it took us through a beautiful golf course setting. The positive vibe ended once getting into Open Range though. We were provided the ability to go to the buffet or order off the menu. After one look at the buffet, I decided to order off the menu. Coffee was set up and the cup I took had something at the bottom that made me no longer wanting coffee. I ordered a french dip sandwich, but what I received was a far cry from a french dip. It was loaded with onions, had beef and smothered with melted cheese. It was more of a philly cheesesteak sandwich. Regardless, I only ate less than a half. In addition, it took an extremely long time for it to be served. The decor was old and tired and the food matched. Overall, it is a place that I would avoid in the future, even if I played golf there. read more

Came in on a weeknight. Walking into the building I could smell the delicious burgers. My friend and I both got a burger and it was great. I ordered the Chicago burger which had mozzarella cheese, Italian beef, and giardinara on it. Definitely would recommend. I got it on a pretzel bun and it was amazing. $4 Absolute drinks on Tuesdays. I have never written a review before, but felt it necessary as the past few months my family and I have experienced a change in quality of service and employees. We have been going in to Open Range for 6 years and have really enjoyed it, but as stated the past few months have been less than. If you ever need to find someone, they will be at the bar. Just last week we were in for dinner and our waitress was at the bar eating her dinner while we were waiting for ours. Last night we were in and the employees were doing shots at the bar (not the first time this was witnessed) and the manager was walking around with a to go cup from the bar, obviously not a soft drink. I have been to many restaurants and never have I been witness to such unprofessionalism. Never have I been to a restaurant where employees are sitting eating their meal or employees at anytime are drinking while still working. It has become apparent that Open Range has become the hangout instead or work place for these employees. I suspect that this is a contributing factor as to the reviews that have been posted lately. These behaviors do not scream family restaurant therefore I do not think that I will be bringing mine back. read more

What an excellent sandwich! This evening I chose the smoked brisket sandwich with a GF bun. It was served with a jicama slaw. I chose roasted Brussels sprouts for my side. Very generous with six slices of brisket and a delicious BBQ sauce Our waiter was very attentive, and anticipated our needs. Offered a container of sauce to take home with our leftovers. Take the advise of the person below and get the ranch fries. They were really good. Also, make sure you come very hungry. There was a ton of food. Along with the salad bar you get included in your meal. Needless to say we had to get most of our meal to take home. Everything was fresh and hot. I heard a table next to us talking about how great their pizza was. Our server was Natalie and she was great. Sweet southern twang too. Going downhill...unfortunately My husband and I have visited Open Range many times...mostly for dinner. We've always been satisfied w/the food & service. It's been our 'go-to' place. So, last week when we had out of town guests staying overnight we chose to take them out to dinner rather than waste time cooking & cleaning up when we just wanted to visit with them. Open Range was our choice...but now wish it hadn't been. I was embarrassed about the outside of the restaurant...it was dirty & had the back space where trash is collected open for patrons to see. The front door/window was filthy w/so many handprints & smudges that I almost did not want to touch the door handle. The bar area was very loud w/obviously 'too served' golfers hanging out laughing loud & carrying on. The inside of the restaurant was ill-kept as well. From where we sat in the dining room we could see into the waitress station where junk was piled high. Service was not that great either...we sat for over 5 mins waiting to be greeted. Once our food was delivered the waitress never came back to check on us. My SIL had to ask twice for water. Might've been our last visit. :-( read more

The service has always been slow and we've always had to track down our server for the check. Minus one star for consistently slow service. The last time we visited we came at 9:45 on a Saturday night and the kitchen was already closed. We could only order pizza. Minus one star for an early closing kitchen on the weekend. I'm honestly surprised by all of the bad reviews here. This is our local joint, as my boyfriend's family lives in Presbury. We love going there on Thursday night's for trivia and ordering a bunch of appetizers: pretzels and cheese, loaded fries, and fried pickles. Another great time to come here is for Sunday brunch. Local option, food just mediocre at best. Ribeye steak special today (Saturday). Steak ordered medium rare, less than 1/2" thick, more like medium, it was dry and old tasting, roasted potatoes were burnt on the bottom and tasted terrible, the asparagus was okay. For $23.00 it should have been a lot better, I was pretty disappointed to say the least. Service is good, atmosphere is good. I really wished our local restaurants were better, but I am usually disappointed in the food here. Love this place! It reminds me of a inn 20 year's ago in Wisconsin. Obviously very busy during golf season. As it Sits on Bliss Creek's golf club. This was my 3rd time here. The food is very good. Great casual dinning with a better than you would expect menu for a neighborhood golf course restaurant. I live very close and go about once a month. Some of my favorites are the pulled pork, beef brisket and buffalo chicken sandwich. The pizza is very good too. Second time here. Service is terrible. Our waitress is older women who limps. We Ordered an appetizer and 20min later the waitress came to the table to take our dinner order and said she forgot to put our app in. No apologies just do you still want it. I myself am a server and would of apologized and given the app to us for free. My drink was empty for 30 min. Never checked in or asked if I needed another one. The table next to me had to stop her in her tracks and ask if they could order drinks. Ridiculous!! The table next to us arrived 20 min after us and ordered 2 pizzas and got their food before us. We ordered wings and tacos!! Last I checked pizzas take a lot longer then the rest of the food on the menu. If you are looking for fast and friendly service do not come here!!
