Never had the coffee. Don't drink coffee. But I do wish I had stumbled upon this gem earlier. A friend invited me to watch her coworker perform here one night and was plummeted to Austin in seconds. I'm always trying non-starbucks coffee shops near downtown. The building and crowd have character. Free wifi. Live music is usually loud, so it's skip Fri-Sun if you're looking for a quiet place to to have conversations. I usually order tea, and it's not bad. read more

Best Chai Tea Lattes hands down! They carry Green Chai, Black Spice Chai, and Vanilla Chai. Service is always friendly and quick. I highly recommend. They also offer live local music in the evenings and have a great Beer & wine selection. Very comfortable seating. Cool, laid back vibe. read more

The coffee here is amazing but that is just the start of it. They also have great pasteries and hypnotic donuts on Tuesdays! Great little quite coffee shop in the basement of Southside on Lamar. Great coffee and atmosphere. I saw a lot of signs for live music however I visited in the middle of the day and didnt get to enjoy any music. We grabbed a coffee and then walked through the Artist's Quarters in Southside. Awesome coffee. Had the Cortado with 2 shots of espresso and soy milk. Coffee beans were full of flavor and smooth... Baristas were friendly and took their time perfecting the order. I had Coffee at Opening Bell this morning. Friendly service, great coffee and the breakfast taco was so good I had to order a second. My only recommendation for guests, is to order 2 tacos up front! Such a great coffee shop. My opinion may be a little skewed because I had spent an hour driving around downtown Dallas, trying to find a coffee shop to hang out and wait for the museums to open, but had little luck finding parking. My sister listed off a few places nearby, and Opening Bell happened to be the closest. Located a bit outside of downtown, parking was super easy to find. Look for the sign outside because the place isn't very noticable from the street. I ordered the house blend (black), and my sister got the Caramel Macchiato. We both enjoyed out drinks (there appears to only be one size), and there were plenty of tables and even some board games. A girl walked around with samples of their Valentine's Day cake, and my sister thought it was delicious (I resisted due to my Paleo diet restrictions). The only downside is that it is underground, so cell service was nonexistent... but that just forces you to put the technology away and relax, or enjoy the time with your companions! read more

I've been a regular at Opening Bell for years. I've performed there many times and also have found so many great songwriters I follow there. When people come in town and ask where to go to hear music, Opening bell is my first recommendation. It's the gathering place of all the best singers and songwriters in town. The Tuesday night open mic is the best in Dallas. The weekends always have music worth seeing. The people that work there are always nice and helpful and they serve great eats as well as wine and coffee, so everybody is covered. Highly recommended read more

Unless I am ignorant of a good number of coffee houses in DFW, Opening Bell is a rarity innthe area. Opening Bell is a large coffee house selling not only coffee and the food options found in such places but also beer and wine. This place also offers live acoustic music. Being inside the Southside Lamar Lofts, OB has a community living room feel. It is big and largely open space with the only nook or cranny being the tables located in the hallway that make up what I call an indoor patio. The coffee is good enough and the music when I was there early on a weekend night wasn't bad. I was just out for a mocha but this place looks like a comfortable to place to have a few drinks with friends when you don't want to stay at home but don't want to hit a bar or a club. I would bet a lot of people who live in the lofts hang out here regularly. The differentness of this place is the primary reason to check this place out. read more

I'm a sucker for indie coffee shops. Location is great, love the vibe. As far as breakfast food (a must for me), go for the kolaches. Avoid the breakfast tacos at all costs--really embarrassing, considering we're in Texas. But five stars still well deserved based on the strength of the coffee.
