What a nice surprise to find this independent coffee shop. I was in the area for business and had an hour to kill. There was easy street parking and plenty of seating on both the main and upper levels. They did a nice job my latte order and delivered it to my table. This was an interesting cafe to visit. If you're comfortable being in an intimate setting when coworking where everyone seems like family, it seems to be this was at Murray Street. Pros: The staff are friendly and the coffee was strong. The decor is funky and random but works. Cons: The stairs can seem a bit dangerous to climb when balancing your food and coffee in your hands. The single use restroom is location inside the kitchen where you have to go behind the counter to use it which made me feel a little uneasy. Again, it's a little intimidating if you're not familiar with the people but is a cozy spot to hang. read more

I asked for oat milk latte and the employee started pouring whole milk so I say "I'm sorry maybe I was speaking too fast but I said oatmilk" she immediately turned back and shouted "no you didn't I would have heard you." And rolled her eyes. Then when I asked for no cheese on my sandwich she asked me why? They made it a big deal to make me one without cheese and made me feel like I was asking for too much. The place is super cute and cozy. It's everything you'd expect from a coffee shop and more. Staff are funny and delightful. They made our food/drinks quickly and sent us on our way. My previous review here is from 5+ years ago and considering the times we are currently experiencing an update is in order. While many coffee shops have come to the Deep Ellum area and left, Murray Street Coffee Shop continues to hold its own. That said, the arrival of Covid-19 has caused many businesses to close their doors. I am thankful the owners here were able to adapt during the 'shelter-at-home' orders and once things reopened they developed a model that seems to be working for them. To align with the reopening orders in the area; they closed the inside to customers. For now, the entry way into the shop is blocked off with a couple of tables; mask wearing customers can step into the doorway (one at a time), place their order and pay, all contact free. When your order is ready, they will bring it to the table to be picked up once they have moved away; again, contact free. Instead of indoor seating they are taking advantage of the sidewalk tables/chairs they already had prior to Covid-19 (plus they have added a few more) which creates an outdoor café feel where people sit and enjoy their beverages (physically distanced of course). In addition to being my favorite coffee shop in the Deep Ellum area it was the first coffee shop I visited when I moved to the area 7+ years ago so I look forward to returning to the days of being able to lounge in the shop again while sipping my coffee. My sister recommended I try this place and it's walking distance from my house, it did not disappoint. I came in and got the Blinker Deluxe sandwich which was fire it. It was an excellent choice if this is your first time here and enjoy breakfast sandwiches. I was indecisive on whether I should get a drink or not because I didn't want a coffee at the moment. I got an iced exotic tea, strawberry hibiscus flavor (might have spelled that wrong). I added some sugar free vanilla sweetener, it also comes unsweetened if that's your thing. I picked the ice Exoctic Tea and Sam gave the recommendation it was really good. Overall I would say the blinker Deluxe was a 5/5 as far breakfast sandwiches go. Then the drink was a 4/5 to me. I also loved the overall aesthetic and vibe of the place it looks like a cool place to have a nice coffee date or catch up with friends. The vibes and ambiance is there as well as playing good music. The service was a 10/10 and everything tasted fresh. I will definitely be back to try some of their coffee. read more

They have the chagaccino here and it is my absolute favorite drink. Service was also super friendly and the cafe is on the corner of Murray street (hence the name!) the only reason this lost a star for me was my cappuccino was only 3/4th the way full. Murray's has a very "this is someone's uncle's house" vibe. It's cozy, and quaint. Full of art but isn't overly styled or fussy. There are amble power strips and seating. The barista chit-chat feels genuine and unforced. Got a man iced chai latte and it was decent. Hard to rate on an iced chai though. I'll be back for coffee and update the review then. By hovering and then asking were we purchasing anything without bringing menus or offering politely. I was in the area and craving a dirty chai + a huge water with the potential of getting a breakfast sandwich. 2 minute drive from where I was seemed like a no brainer even though I'm an avid Starbucks go-Er simply for the venti waters they'll give you for free. Came in and was taken back by the awesome art that filled the walls and created the perfect aesthetic for a chill vibe along side a great brew. I ordered my dirty chai, and took a peek the menu. Really cute shop with a lot of space to sip and relax or sip and work. Wasn't feeling the stuffed dog and bird on display but I'm sure someone finds that kind of thing artistic. They have a huge selection of syrup (including Lavender) and are extremely friendly. I got the almond milk Lavender Latte with a sour cream pecan muffin. The Mr. got a Hazelnut Coldbrew. Now my latte was a little bitter but my muffin was Heaven sent. Warmed up with a little butter and that thing set an incredibly productive day. Get two if you can. You won't be sorry. This is a quaint little cafe located on Murray Street. I came by with a friend on a Monday morning and there were about 4 people who had stopped by to grab coffee and read/work on some things. I think this is a good place if you have some light work to do, however there isn't a lot of seating. There are places for about 20 people to sit. It has a cozy and casual ambiance. The light fixtures really give the place a modern vibe (random I know, but they're really cool!). The menu is short which is perfect for a coffee shop. They have drinks and small bites to eat. I ordered a turkey sandwich with a cookie, while my friend got a turkey sandwich with soup. The sandwich was delicious, but the ciabatta bread was a little hard. It didn't bother me because the savory taste made up for it. The cookie I got wasn't my favorite. I won't be back for the baked goods, but will be back for sandwiches! read more

Deep Ellum is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Dallas. It's covered in cool graffiti, has a great view of the Dallas skyline, a booming bar scene, and, I've come to learn, a cool selection of coffee shops. I chose Murray Street Coffee Shop as the first in the Deep Ellum leg of my Coffee Tour. Although I had seen pictures online, they didn't capture the homey vibe I walked into on a cold Monday morning. Couches and chairs in front of the coffee bar were arranged like a living room. People were sitting around and chatting over their cups of caffeine. As I walked in, the barista greeted me. Murray Street had three options for its daily brew, all roasted by Eiland, a Richardson-based coffee roaster. I started with the China roast, which the barista told me was smooth with notes of raisin. The shop was pretty full, especially the bottom floor, but I found a table upstairs to study while I savored the China. To my enjoyment, it was exactly as the barista described. If you're like me and you don't like harsh, bitter cups of coffee, the China is a great option for you. There was almost none of the bitter acidity typical of brands like Starbucks, Folgers, or Peet's. I could clearly taste the notes of raisin. If you go to Murray Street and they have the China available, I highly recommend it. There are also bagels, pastries, and other breakfast foods if you want to snack while you drink your coffee. After I finished the China, I drank a cappuccino. It wasn't bad, but I prefer a creamier cup. I liked that both the cappuccino and the daily brew were served in plain-colored ceramic mugs. Murray Street didn't have much branding going on, but that would probably take away from its hominess. For this reason, even though the branding of the coffee shop can sometimes add to the experience for me, the lack of branding for Murray Street worked in its favor. Murray Street is a great place to spend a few hours studying or reading. The atmosphere is very relaxed and homey. The only thing that somewhat hurt the experience was the music that was playing. The playlist was all over the place. I heard indie rock, orchestra music, and techno all in a span of thirty minutes. It didn't really bother me, but both me and my friend that was with me thought that it was an atypical mix for a coffee shop. Murray Street is worth a daytime visit to Deep Ellum. Since Murray Street doesn't have its own parking lot, finding parking can be a little bit of a pain, which is typical of Deep Ellum. I had to park 2 blocks away in a parallel spot. You should be able to find something within a short walk, so don't let that keep you from paying Murray Street a visit. read more

I don't think the coffee here is the absolute best in Dallas - but it's well above average. But I enjoy it more because it's the more personalized attention you get here. You even get a biscotti with the coffee, like you would in real Italian coffee shops. The sandwiches are also good although I had mine customized. I had the proscuitto sandwich, with bread that has been toasted with olive oil, and added the standard veggies to it - and it came out to be one of the better sandwiches I've had in a long while. Unfortunately this place closes early so I'm not able to come by in the evening. They have, what I believe to be, the best studying area out of all of the independent coffee shops in Dallas proper (upstairs, by the windows that provide lots of natural lighting, which I absolutely love). I would definitely return during the day, as this has become my coffee shop of choice. But beware, customized drinks and sandwiches have an uncharge (i.e. $1 for soy milk) and they don't have a variety of milk substitutes (I have asked about almond milk). read more

Pros: + Incredibly delicious cappuccinos - the espresso tastes like melted chocolate and caramel swirled together. + Muffins - I have to rave about their pumpkins muffins. I was lucky to find street parking on an off afternoon, but be aware of limited parking on Saturday. The first impression upon walking in is that it's cozy. Someone (who I presume is the owner) and the barista is chatting with a customer and they're having a good conversation. Everybody seems friendly. Ordered a chai latte. $3.75. My complaint was that it was a bit cold to my liking. They have an upstairs and a downstairs with plenty of seating (sofa, table, etc). Just a warning voices carry from the downstairs so it might not be the best place to work if there are chatty people around. The bathroom is weirdly behind the bar and by the kitchen. I'm a bit skeptical about the food here if people are walking back and forth in the back. Overall, I like the spot. read more

The people who work here are incredibly friendly and attentive. The environment and store is cozy, laid back, with worn mid century furniture. This place has so much potential. The food and coffee was sadly below average. I had the tamales and they were lukewarm and tasted as though they were several days old. My friend had a bagel with cream cheese and it was slightly burnt, the cream cheese low grade and not that appealing. The cappuccino I had was hard to drink, it tasted as though the espresso hadn't been dialed in or the machine calibrated correctly. I didn't ask them to change anything because you can tell they try really really hard and strive to have a positive environment. When we asked for water they told us we could buy water. It was only $1 for a bottle, not bad but a little odd. There is a public restroom but you have to go through the kitchen and employee area to get to it. I would come back here to read or work on my laptop but maybe stick with just a Topo Chico. Great people, from a business standpoint the place could probably just use a little work on it's food and beverages. read more

Yesterday I had a medical interpreting assignment at Baylor Hospital and I was craving some coffee. I checked Yelp and my Entertainment application to see if there was something in the area for a good value and I found this place. I had a coupon for 50% off of any coffee drink and I was happy to use it because it usually helps both sides since it is struggling businesses the ones that offer discounts in publications like that. I arrived and there were 2 ladies. The younger one took my order (a large cold mocha coffee and an avocado toast with olive oil) and I gave her my coupon. She looked at it and asked me 'What is this?' I said 'It is a coupon'. She inquired the older woman and she goes off 'OHHHH, really? Am I still on this? I asked them to stop 3 years ago.. OF COURSE THAT'S WHY HE WANTS A LARGE MOCHA COFFEE'. Wait a sec.. what? I was about to say something ugly but I just showed both of them my phone and let them know that their business was in the physical version (the book) and also in the application. She exclaimed 'I have to honor this but they are not right. I'm gonna call them right now.. I am not mad at you. I am mad at them'. First of all, that statement is retarded by all means. Why in the world would she be mad at ME? What did I do? Showing up with a coupon from a very well known publication? Why would you be mad at me? Then I asked her what she meant when she said that the coupon was the reason why I wanted a large coffee. She kept saying she was not mad at me. It was not my fault. What a relief, right? Melody L and I needed a place for lunch that we could stay for a few hours after to get some work done...and as always Melody knew just the place! She oooh'd and aaah'd about their tomato mozzarella sandwich while in the car so once we arrived I just had to try it for myself. And there were some oooh's and aaah's coming out of my mouth after just a few bites...very fresh tomatoes and mozzarella cheese on really yummy ciabatta bread. Sold!! We made ourselves at home and while I was tempted to pull out one of the board games they have I had some work to do...and took advantage of their free wifi. But i love that they have board games for anyone who may be bored. Although if you really get bored here just make your way to the bathroom where they have lots of markets at your disposal to graffiti their walls. So entertaining...and may just be the longest time I've ever spent in the bathroom at a public place. It's also worth noting that the people who work here (including the owner) are so sweet and helpful. They spend time talking to each and every customer...
