I came here while camping out for the 1975 at Southside Ballroom and it is amazing! The coffee was delicious and the atmosphere was quant. The prices were very reasonable. It's a nice little hidden coffee shop. The only issue were the bathrooms considering everyone in line for the concert went to use the restroom here! The girls even took over the boys restroom and had to be told to get out. Can't wait to try this place again. If I'm ever at Southside for a concert I'll definitely come here first. read more

Funky-cool java shop with great live music and atmosphere to beat all. Ask for an espresso drink from one of their talented baristas. My favorite and the one that turned me on to the place is a caramel mocha with lots of vanilla flavored whipped cream. One of my favorite coffee shops in Dallas! Note, I rarely get coffee and just drink tea, so my rating shows no reflection of the quality of coffee, but I love this place for its expansive table space for studying/working/reading, large interior, open mic and good live music, and the delicious african autumn tea. The staff is also really friendly and helpful! I prefer this place to the Pearl Cup (while I love their lattes, it's overpriced and cramped), and I love biking here to study! read more

Awesome little coffeeshop at Southside Lamar area, located in basement of building. Staff are very nice and easygoing and I liked the potato/egg/cheese taco with salsa also! The coffee was pretty good as well and they had free wifi so I just worked there for a few hours. One thing I noticed was that the food/drink menu prices seemed to be inflated, in line or a little above starbucks prices, which I thought was unfortunate... Ah well! A lot of the patrons live in the apartments upstairs and DPD officers come through there a lot as well. It has a lot of eclectic decor with tables, booths, and couches around the place to sit and drink coffee or chat. I kinda felt like an outsider because it seemed like most everyone knew each other. I did meet a couple though that were a little older and also lived upstairs and they were very nice and sociable. Overall, i think this is a place worth visiting. I think next time I will chk out one of the nights when a band is performing which sounded like it occurs every weekend! Happy Trails! :) read more

Opening Bell was right down the street from our airbnb in Cedars so myself and 5 other girls stopped by to amp for a day of exploring Dallas. This place has an extremely cute ambience with great service. We all had some form of coffee or latte, all delicious, along with small breakfast pairing. We weren't looking for a huge breakfast so their selection of pastries, gluten free oatmeal, quiche and yogurt really hit the spot! I agree with Jessica D., this is a great place to spread out and work/study. It was easy to find, free parking and friendly service. I'm guessing non routine vistors are easy to spot (as to whom I was lol). But no fear, I was treated like a regular or atleast on the calibur of a residential newbie. It was delightful. Even some regular patrons struck up conversation with me. Truly friendly attendees at the Opening Bell, S_outhside_On_Lamar. Dont spend all your time in the coffee house though, explore the building, take in every corner, it's an interesting building. I would check it out. read more

If you stay at the NYLO, you need to acquaint yourself with Opening Bell. I stumbled in searching for breakfast, but between the value, atmosphere, and service I was sold to come back each morning of my visit to start my day, and could have easily camped out until closing time. read more

So I stumbled upon this place after my original plan had changed. I am so glad I found it! It was a bit hard to find considering I had no idea where I was going, but after asking a friendly man on the street, he directed me to the store front around the corner. Before even getting a drink, I fell in love with the atmosphere! It was mid afternoon and a more than perfect getaway. My drink of choice was an iced mocha. It was a tad bit expensive to me, but it was great! I could tell their espresso was definitely not the cheap stuff. I also took note that they press the grinds by hand, to me makes a place so much more authentic. I received great service from Shelby and some handsome young man in maroon. I spent the whole afternoon here, enjoying the atmosphere, people and just everything about it. I finished all my work and decided to stick around and check out the live music which happened to be a Johnny Cash tribute. It was great, they had quite a crowd and tried accommodating every guest as well as possible! I will definitely be stopping by here many more times. read more

Opening bell has a great atmosphere it feels like a cafe but at the same time it feels like a bar too. They have live music at night and the drinks aren't that bad either. In a dungeonous atmosphere on an industrial block is how I would expect all coffee houses to be created. This place is the only coffee house in Dallas that actually meets this criteria. I only had the tea, which is good, but I will be back to try the coffee. They have music, sandwiches, and desserts as well. The service is excellent and the furniture is cozy. read more

The service is a bit slower but I don't mind that at all, which is why I still gave it 5 stars. I love unique places where you don't feel rushed to leave. The breakfast burritos weren't super special but they were yummy. My kids had the Crumbzz waffles which they loved. This is about everything a coffee shop should be. The menu includes beverages (coffee, espresso, tea, beer, wine), sandwiches, smoothies and sweets. Seating is varied from tables to armchairs to sofas, and appeared to have books on a shelf to enjoy reading. It also features live music, although not at the time I visited so otherwise it is a nice quiet place to relax and take in the cute ambiance. My brother and I spent the day in downtown Dallas and wanted one last place to enjoy a coffee. Since we were traveling via DART train, I suggested Opening Bell since I have never really spent time on the train stops south of downtown. Opening Bell is just a block away from the Cedars station. I had the latte and it was terrific. The service was very friendly, and I hope to return soon to try other items on their menu. read more

I'm from San Diego and was just going to stop by a Starbucks but then I told myself no try something new. I looked online and found this place. Once I walked in I felt a great vibe. The older lady who was the cashier was beyond friendly! Haven't had this kind of customer service in San Diego! I waited for my cinnamon roll and iced caramel latte where the sign says pick up. The older lady asked me where I would be sitting and that she would bring it to me after she complemented how cute my shoes were. All I can say I LOVE this place! We have been a couple of times and both times were left unimpressed with the quality of service, coffee, and food. The atmosphere and the vibe of the place is cool. But, the folks that work there are pretentious. The Open Mic night was absolute crap. Of the 30 plus "musicians" there were only a handful (5) that had any business up on stage. Don't be fooled about sign ups starting at a certain time. If you are the first to sign up don't worry you will be behind half of the rest that were somehow magically signed in before you! The open mic guy running the show thinks he is way better than he really is...ugh. It may be the longest running open mic in Dallas but it is not even close to a good open mic. Way too many "friends" of the host that are mostly indulgent wannabes. read more

Oooh. Damn fine coffee. This place is a hop skip and a you know what from the Palladium. Definitely worth a try. When I was in there, a jazz band was warming up. So, if that's your thing, then there you go. They also seemed to have some cakes and other deserts available, but to my knowledge that was the extent of the food options. Oh, and beer too! Cool.
