I debated whether I should leave a review, but I think it's worth posting. When a friend told me about Opti-Lite, I was excited to support a local business with such great prices. I brought my own frames for lenses. Howard was initially incredibly friendly. He took my prescription and said they would be done in two weeks. I was anxious to get them done because my old pair was so broken the lens was falling out. True to his word, they were ready in two weeks, and I loved them. However, less than two weeks after getting them, I noticed a crack in the left lens next to the frame. I was bummed about it, but I figured it was small, and I could barely see it since it was at the top. So I just thought, eh, it's ok as is, but if it got bigger, I would bring them back. That would have been ok. But then ANOTHER crack formed on the right lens near my nose. I could see it when reading, which I do a lot because I work on a computer. It wasn't that bad until the crack started getting bigger. It is now at least a full centimeter long, possibly longer, and I can't avoid seeing it. That's when I decided to bring them back in. I showed them to Howard, and he got defensive and claimed that liquid had gotten in the frames, that it probably happened when I was spraying my face with water or acetone. Yes, he said acetone. First, who leaves their glasses on when spraying their face, and who the heck sprays acetone on their face?????? And WHAT KIND OF GLASSES CAN'T TOUCH WATER??? Basically, he was telling me it was my fault the lenses cracked. I told him this had never happened to any other glasses I've had. I've been wearing glasses since I was ten. In 40 years of wearing glasses, I have never, EVER had cracks like this develop. And I was way rougher on my glasses then than I am now. Howard's solution was to give me a 'discount' on replacement lenses. I paid about $200 initially, and he offered to let me have the replacements for $120. Huh? I told him the frames cracked only two weeks after I had them. I told him I could see the crack on the right lense every time I wore them. He said, "that's because you're looking for it." WTF???????? I am so disappointed that a small business refuses to stand by its product. I thought Howard was an honorable man, but I guess I was wrong. I'm stuck with cracked lenses until I can find another place to replace them. Costco, here I come. read more

BOTTOM LINE: Probably the cheapest prices to find prescription, tinted and polarized lenses for your glasses/sunglasses needs in the West LA area. The shop itself is a decrepit, partially renovated brick workshop with a dirt side lot for haphazard parking located on an undesirable strip of West Adams. Service is a crapshoot; sometimes you're in and out in a couple minutes, other times up to twenty (this is rare). As soon as you walk in through the backdoor (main entrance), do not attempt to grab anyone's attention. Just walk inside and sit on one of the chairs set up in the middle foyer across from the computers. The owner, Howard, is a kind, yet, abrasive old soul of small stature who genuinely loves eyeglass servicing. Don't take it personally if he doesn't acknowledge you immediately once you walk in-he noticed you and will make his way to you eventually (he'll usually say, "take a seat"). *P.S.*They take credit card but prefer cash. I suggest you bring cash. Also remember to bring the work order slip you received upon arrival when you come back for your glasses. They will need that number on the work order slip to retrieve your case. *P.S.S.*Sometimes they finish your work order faster than expected but will not let you know ahead of time. Feel free to call a day or two prior to expected completion but do not harass them at your own convenience. read more

I took my own prescription to Opti-Lite for lens replacement and Howard's prices were the best! I don't know about his other prices but I think its worth giving him a try. I received my glasses back in less than a week. The owner, Howard, is a very pleasant man to work with. read more

Howard is great! Such a friendly and pleasant man to deal with. You will definitely save money by bringing in your prescription here especially if you want the extra coatings which i always get anti fog, anti glare and anti scratch. Just let him know what you want and they can do it. I dropped of two pairs of glasses and they were ready in 2 days. I love this place, awesome service and a great deal. I believe their hours are 9am-5pm Mon-Fri and on Saturdays they are open until 1pm and closed on Sundays. read more

A friend recommended this place. It's not far from my home. Before coming here, I should have read ALL the reviews, especially the review from 2014, which summarizes my experience exactly. I brought Opti-Lite 3 pairs of glasses. After 3 weeks, I went to try the 2 pairs that were ready, and they were blurry. The owner started yelling and saying that there is nothing wrong with the lenses, and that I should go back to Kaiser and get my eyes checked again. These were new prescriptions. The Kaiser technician compared the lenses with the prescription and the lenses were off. I took the glasses back. After 3 weeks, they were redone correctly. I GAVE UP on the 3rd pair, the sports glasses. After 3 tries and the owner's loss of temper, he is unable to make the sports glasses. This has been such a bad experience, that I don't even want to go back to the lab to get the sports frames back. I'm out of $85, but it's not worth the further aggravations. Good luck. read more

My dad owns an eyewear store and this is the guy he sends everyone to for optical lenses. Naturally I've gotten the majority of my lenses done here and they were all very well made. I mostly recommend this place because their prices are ridiculously inexpensive compared to literally anywhere else you could find, and that they do a really great job with anything you want. I usually get standard clear Cr-39 lenses which are the common plastic material used for high quality lenses and it came out to around 28 bucks; places like lens crafters charge 90 for the same thing what the hell Edit: I wrote this of my own accord. Kind of a seedy old place in a tough neighborhood, but they make the lenses well. Just took in my frames and a prescription, and they put everything together in about a week. I've used them about three times in 10 years, and they always seem to do the job right. read more

This is a jewel in our town. True, it's not a showroom, it's a functioning lab for making quality (and complicated) prescription lenses, which they do for many Optical places. They provide a great service, we are lucky to have them and, they are very nice people. The wait can be a little long sometimes but remember- it's worth it. read more

I've been going to Opti-Lite at least once a year for the past 15 or so years. Yes, it is not in the best part of town - to say the least. But Howard, the owner, is a friendly talkative guy and you might have to wait awhile as he goes through the process of writing up your order. His prices are very good, and unlike Kaiser, where I have coverage, and some other places (not sure about Costco) I can come in with frames and just get the lenses done. You do pay in cash and it does take about a week. Remember this is not your Lenscraft or other Optical Store or Optometric office, instead this is an optical lab that makes the glasses for those places. Not sure about the one negative complaint but wholeheartedly agree with the other reviews. read more
